  • Can't create admin user on Heroku

    I am new to rails and I have gone through Kevin Skoglund's Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training course on Lynda.com. Through the course you set up a simple cms, which I did. It doesn't cover Git or deployment but I've pushed my simple cms to github (https://github.com/nick5a1/Simple_CMS) and deployed to Heroku (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/). In order to deploy to Heroku I followed the Heroku setup guide (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3) and switched my database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As instructed I changed gen'mysql2' to gen 'sqlite3' in my Gemfile and ran bundle install before pushing. I then ran heroku run rake db:migrate. I'm running into 2 problems. When I try to log in (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/access) I get an error "We're sorry, but something went wrong". I should instead be getting a flash message with invalid username/password combination. This is what I'm getting on my test environment on my local machine. Secondly, when I log into the Heroku console to create and create an admin user, when I try to save that user I get the following error: irb(main):004:0> user.save (1.2ms) BEGIN AdminUser Exists (1.9ms) SELECT 1 AS one FROM "admin_users" WHERE "admin_users"."username" = 'Nick5a1' LIMIT 1 (1.7ms) ROLLBACK => false Any advice on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated :).   • Rails 3.0/3.2: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id

    I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?

  • How do I find where id does not match any of an array?

    I have a Workout model that has and belongs to many Equipment models. I have an array of some Equipment IDs. I want to find all Workouts that don't have any Equipment assigned that matches any of the array of Equipment IDs. So, if my array = [2,3,5] I want to find all workouts where the assigned equipment ids does not include 2, 3 or 5. EDIT: Workout.joins(:equipment).where("equipment.id not in(?)",[2,3,5]).uniq Assuming five instances of Equipment, the code above returns workouts with equipment.ids 1 and 4 (good), but also returns partial matches for example Workouts with equipment.id = [1,2], [1,2,3].

  • rails link path and routing error

    <%= link_to t('.new', :default => t("helpers.links.new")), new_equipment_path, :class => 'btn btn-primary' %> I have the above code in a view, but am getting the following error when clicking the link: No route matches {:action=>"show", :controller=>"equipment"} My routes file contains: devise_for :users ActiveAdmin.routes(self) devise_for :admin_users, ActiveAdmin::Devise.config resources :equipment resources :workouts root :to => "home#index" match 'workouts/random', :to => 'workouts#random' match ':controller(/:action(/:id))(.:format)' Why is it trying to access the show action?
