  • File Encrypt/Decrypt under load?

    - by chopps
I found an interesting article about encrypting and decrypting files but since it uses a file.dat to store the key this will run into problems when theres alot of users on the site dealing with alot of files. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/security/VernamEncryption.aspx?display=Print Should a new file be created every time a file needs decrypting or would there be a better way to do this? UPDATE: Here is what im using to avoid the locking problems. using (Mutex FileLock = new Mutex(true, System.Guid.NewGuid().ToString())) { try { FileLock.WaitOne(); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(keyFile, FileMode.Open)) { keyBytes = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(keyBytes, 0, keyBytes.Length); } } catch (Exception ex) { EventLog.LogEvent(ex); } finally { FileLock.ReleaseMutex(); } } I tested it on 1000 TIFFs doing both encryption and decryption without any errors.

  • Help with calling a secure (SSL) webservice in Android.

    - by mmattax
I'm new to Android and am struggling to make a call to an SSL web service for an Android Application. My code is as follows: Log.v("fs", "Making HTTP call..."); HttpClient http = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet request = new HttpGet("https://example.com/api"); try { String response = http.execute(request, new BasicResponseHandler()); Log.v("fs", response); } catch (Exception e) { Log.v("fs", e.toString()); } The Output is: Making HTTP call... javax.net.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: No peer certificate Any suggestions to make this work would be great. EDIT I should note that this is a valid cert. It is not self-signed.

  • create file in user's temp folder

    - by user2867494
I am using the following code to try and create a file in the user's temp folder, but it will not. var fs = require('fs'); var os = require('os'); var ostemp = os.tmpdir(); var exec = require('child_process').exec; var file = fs.createWriteStream(ostemp + '\setup.exe'); ostemp will return a path similar to 'c:\users\user\appdata\local\temp' But the code above will save the file to local, and the filename will be tempsetup.exe Why is that?

  • webgl adding projection doesnt display object

    - by dazed3confused
    I am having a look at web gl, and trying to render a cube, but I am having a problem when I try to add projection into the vertex shader. I have added an attribute, but when I use it to multiple the modelview and position, it stops displaying the cube. Im not sure why and was wondering if anyone could help? Ive tried looking at a few examples but just cant get this to work vertex shader attribute vec3 aVertexPosition; uniform mat4 uMVMatrix; uniform mat4 uPMatrix; void main(void) { gl_Position = uPMatrix * uMVMatrix * vec4(aVertexPosition, 1.0); //gl_Position = uMVMatrix * vec4(aVertexPosition, 1.0); } fragment shader #ifdef GL_ES precision highp float; // Not sure why this is required, need to google it #endif uniform vec4 uColor; void main() { gl_FragColor = uColor; } function init() { // Get a reference to our drawing surface canvas = document.getElementById("webglSurface"); gl = canvas.getContext("experimental-webgl"); /** Create our simple program **/ // Get our shaders var v = document.getElementById("vertexShader").firstChild.nodeValue; var f = document.getElementById("fragmentShader").firstChild.nodeValue; // Compile vertex shader var vs = gl.createShader(gl.VERTEX_SHADER); gl.shaderSource(vs, v); gl.compileShader(vs); // Compile fragment shader var fs = gl.createShader(gl.FRAGMENT_SHADER); gl.shaderSource(fs, f); gl.compileShader(fs); // Create program and attach shaders program = gl.createProgram(); gl.attachShader(program, vs); gl.attachShader(program, fs); gl.linkProgram(program); // Some debug code to check for shader compile errors and log them to console if (!gl.getShaderParameter(vs, gl.COMPILE_STATUS)) console.log(gl.getShaderInfoLog(vs)); if (!gl.getShaderParameter(fs, gl.COMPILE_STATUS)) console.log(gl.getShaderInfoLog(fs)); if (!gl.getProgramParameter(program, gl.LINK_STATUS)) console.log(gl.getProgramInfoLog(program)); /* Create some simple VBOs*/ // Vertices for a cube var vertices = new Float32Array([ -0.5, 0.5, 0.5, // 0 -0.5, -0.5, 0.5, // 1 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, // 2 0.5, -0.5, 0.5, // 3 -0.5, 0.5, -0.5, // 4 -0.5, -0.5, -0.5, // 5 -0.5, 0.5, -0.5, // 6 -0.5,-0.5, -0.5 // 7 ]); // Indices of the cube var indicies = new Int16Array([ 0, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, // front 5, 4, 6, 5, 6, 7, // back 0, 1, 5, 0, 5, 4, // left 2, 3, 6, 6, 3, 7, // right 0, 4, 2, 4, 2, 6, // top 5, 3, 1, 5, 3, 7 // bottom ]); // create vertices object on the GPU vbo = gl.createBuffer(); gl.bindBuffer(gl.ARRAY_BUFFER, vbo); gl.bufferData(gl.ARRAY_BUFFER, vertices, gl.STATIC_DRAW); // Create indicies object on th GPU ibo = gl.createBuffer(); gl.bindBuffer(gl.ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, ibo); gl.bufferData(gl.ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, indicies, gl.STATIC_DRAW); gl.clearColor(0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0); gl.enable(gl.DEPTH_TEST); // Render scene every 33 milliseconds setInterval(render, 33); } var mvMatrix = mat4.create(); var pMatrix = mat4.create(); function render() { // Set our viewport and clear it before we render gl.viewport(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height); gl.clear(gl.COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | gl.DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); gl.useProgram(program); // Bind appropriate VBOs gl.bindBuffer(gl.ARRAY_BUFFER, vbo); gl.bindBuffer(gl.ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, ibo); // Set the color for the fragment shader program.uColor = gl.getUniformLocation(program, "uColor"); gl.uniform4fv(program.uColor, [0.3, 0.3, 0.3, 1.0]); // // code.google.com/p/glmatrix/wiki/Usage program.uPMatrix = gl.getUniformLocation(program, "uPMatrix"); program.uMVMatrix = gl.getUniformLocation(program, "uMVMatrix"); mat4.perspective(45, gl.viewportWidth / gl.viewportHeight, 1.0, 10.0, pMatrix); mat4.identity(mvMatrix); mat4.translate(mvMatrix, [0.0, -0.25, -1.0]); gl.uniformMatrix4fv(program.uPMatrix, false, pMatrix); gl.uniformMatrix4fv(program.uMVMatrix, false, mvMatrix); // Set the position for the vertex shader program.aVertexPosition = gl.getAttribLocation(program, "aVertexPosition"); gl.enableVertexAttribArray(program.aVertexPosition); gl.vertexAttribPointer(program.aVertexPosition, 3, gl.FLOAT, false, 3*4, 0); // position // Render the Object gl.drawElements(gl.TRIANGLES, 36, gl.UNSIGNED_SHORT, 0); } Thanks in advance for any help

  • Displaying same icon in 2 different sizes on c#

    - by ET
My goal is to display the same icon twice, but each time in different size. I tried the following: FileStream fs = new FileStream("name_of_the_icon_file.ico", FileMode.Open); Icon ico = new Icon(fs, 32, 32); //create an in-memory instance of the icon, size 32x32 Icon ico2 = new Icon(fs, 16, 16); //create an in-memory instance of the icon, size 16x16 ... Graphics.DrawIcon(ico, /*some point*/); Graphics.DrawIcon(ico2, /*some other point*/); The last line throws an ArgumentException: Value does not fall within the expected range. Can some one explain me whats wrong and whats the way to do this right?

  • Lua not producing table of functions (IO API)

    - by ArtOfCode
I'm working on a basic project in Lua. I've been trying to get data from files using the IO API (as defined here), but when I open a file and give it a handle, it doesn't seem to return a table of functions. The (erroneous bit of) code: local unread = fs.list("email/"..from.."/") local send = "" for _,file in ipairs(unread) do local handle = io.open(file,"r") local text = handle:read("*a") send = send .. text .. "\n" handle.close() fs.delete(file) end The fs you see on the first line is a professional filesystem wrapper round the IO API, not my work and perfectly error-free, so that's not the problem. However, when I try to read the file (handle:read()), it throws "attempt to index nil". Tracing it, it turns out that handle itself is nil. Any ideas?

  • Running a simple integration scenario using the Oracle Big Data Connectors on Hadoop/HDFS cluster

    - by hamsun
Between the elephant ( the tradional image of the Hadoop framework) and the Oracle Iron Man (Big Data..) an english setter could be seen as the link to the right data Data, Data, Data, we are living in a world where data technology based on popular applications , search engines, Webservers, rich sms messages, email clients, weather forecasts and so on, have a predominant role in our life. More and more technologies are used to analyze/track our behavior, try to detect patterns, to propose us "the best/right user experience" from the Google Ad services, to Telco companies or large consumer sites (like Amazon:) ). The more we use all these technologies, the more we generate data, and thus there is a need of huge data marts and specific hardware/software servers (as the Exadata servers) in order to treat/analyze/understand the trends and offer new services to the users. Some of these "data feeds" are raw, unstructured data, and cannot be processed effectively by normal SQL queries. Large scale distributed processing was an emerging infrastructure need and the solution seemed to be the "collocation of compute nodes with the data", which in turn leaded to MapReduce parallel patterns and the development of the Hadoop framework, which is based on MapReduce and a distributed file system (HDFS) that runs on larger clusters of rather inexpensive servers. Several Oracle products are using the distributed / aggregation pattern for data calculation ( Coherence, NoSql, times ten ) so once that you are familiar with one of these technologies, lets says with coherence aggregators, you will find the whole Hadoop, MapReduce concept very similar. Oracle Big Data Appliance is based on the Cloudera Distribution (CDH), and the Oracle Big Data Connectors can be plugged on a Hadoop cluster running the CDH distribution or equivalent Hadoop clusters. In this paper, a "lab like" implementation of this concept is done on a single Linux X64 server, running an Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.4.0, and a single node Apache hadoop-1.2.1 HDFS cluster, using the SQL connector for HDFS. The whole setup is fairly simple: Install on a Linux x64 server ( or virtual box appliance) an Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.4.0 server Get the Apache Hadoop distribution from: http://mir2.ovh.net/ftp.apache.org/dist/hadoop/common/hadoop-1.2.1. Get the Oracle Big Data Connectors from: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/bdc/big-data-connectors/downloads/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen. Check the java version of your Linux server with the command: java -version java version "1.7.0_40" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_40-b43) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.0-b56, mixed mode) Decompress the hadoop hadoop-1.2.1.tar.gz file to /u01/hadoop-1.2.1 Modify your .bash_profile export HADOOP_HOME=/u01/hadoop-1.2.1 export PATH=$PATH:$HADOOP_HOME/bin export HIVE_HOME=/u01/hive-0.11.0 export PATH=$PATH:$HADOOP_HOME/bin:$HIVE_HOME/bin (also see my sample .bash_profile) Set up ssh trust for Hadoop process, this is a mandatory step, in our case we have to establish a "local trust" as will are using a single node configuration copy the new public keys to the list of authorized keys connect and test the ssh setup to your localhost: We will run a "pseudo-Hadoop cluster", in what is called "local standalone mode", all the Hadoop java components are running in one Java process, this is enough for our demo purposes. We need to "fine tune" some Hadoop configuration files, we have to go at our $HADOOP_HOME/conf, and modify the files: core-site.xml hdfs-site.xml mapred-site.xml check that the hadoop binaries are referenced correctly from the command line by executing: hadoop -version As Hadoop is managing our "clustered HDFS" file system we have to create "the mount point" and format it , the mount point will be declared to core-site.xml as: The layout under the /u01/hadoop-1.2.1/data will be created and used by other hadoop components (MapReduce = /mapred/...) HDFS is using the /dfs/... layout structure format the HDFS hadoop file system: Start the java components for the HDFS system As an additional check, you can use the GUI Hadoop browsers to check the content of your HDFS configurations: Once our HDFS Hadoop setup is done you can use the HDFS file system to store data ( big data : )), and plug them back and forth to Oracle Databases by the means of the Big Data Connectors ( which is the next configuration step). You can create / use a Hive db, but in our case we will make a simple integration of "raw data" , through the creation of an External Table to a local Oracle instance ( on the same Linux box, we run the Hadoop HDFS one node cluster and one Oracle DB). Download some public "big data", I use the site: http://france.meteofrance.com/france/observations, from where I can get *.csv files for my big data simulations :). Here is the data layout of my example file: Download the Big Data Connector from the OTN (oraosch-2.2.0.zip), unzip it to your local file system (see picture below) Modify your environment in order to access the connector libraries , and make the following test: [oracle@dg1 bin]$./hdfs_stream Usage: hdfs_stream locationFile [oracle@dg1 bin]$ Load the data to the Hadoop hdfs file system: hadoop fs -mkdir bgtest_data hadoop fs -put obsFrance.txt bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt hadoop fs -ls /user/oracle/bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt [oracle@dg1 bg-data-raw]$ hadoop fs -ls /user/oracle/bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt Found 1 items -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle supergroup 54103 2013-10-22 06:10 /user/oracle/bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt [oracle@dg1 bg-data-raw]$hadoop fs -ls hdfs:///user/oracle/bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt Found 1 items -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle supergroup 54103 2013-10-22 06:10 /user/oracle/bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt Check the content of the HDFS with the browser UI: Start the Oracle database, and run the following script in order to create the Oracle database user, the Oracle directories for the Oracle Big Data Connector (dg1 it’s my own db id replace accordingly yours): #!/bin/bash export ORAENV_ASK=NO export ORACLE_SID=dg1 . oraenv sqlplus /nolog <<EOF CONNECT / AS sysdba; CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY osch_bin_path AS '/u01/orahdfs-2.2.0/bin'; CREATE USER BGUSER IDENTIFIED BY oracle; GRANT CREATE SESSION, CREATE TABLE TO BGUSER; GRANT EXECUTE ON sys.utl_file TO BGUSER; GRANT READ, EXECUTE ON DIRECTORY osch_bin_path TO BGUSER; CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY BGT_LOG_DIR as '/u01/BG_TEST/logs'; GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY BGT_LOG_DIR to BGUSER; CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY BGT_DATA_DIR as '/u01/BG_TEST/data'; GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY BGT_DATA_DIR to BGUSER; EOF Put the following in a file named t3.sh and make it executable, hadoop jar $OSCH_HOME/jlib/orahdfs.jar \ oracle.hadoop.exttab.ExternalTable \ -D oracle.hadoop.exttab.tableName=BGTEST_DP_XTAB \ -D oracle.hadoop.exttab.defaultDirectory=BGT_DATA_DIR \ -D oracle.hadoop.exttab.dataPaths="hdfs:///user/oracle/bgtest_data/obsFrance.txt" \ -D oracle.hadoop.exttab.columnCount=7 \ -D oracle.hadoop.connection.url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@//localhost:1521/dg1 \ -D oracle.hadoop.connection.user=BGUSER \ -D oracle.hadoop.exttab.printStackTrace=true \ -createTable --noexecute then test the creation fo the external table with it: [oracle@dg1 samples]$ ./t3.sh ./t3.sh: line 2: /u01/orahdfs-2.2.0: Is a directory Oracle SQL Connector for HDFS Release 2.2.0 - Production Copyright (c) 2011, 2013, Oracle and/or its affiliates. • The best choice of linux file system and software that can be accesed from Windows

    - by Florin
I am curently having ubuntu and win 7 dual boot and I want to delete my windows 7 and format all my partitions to use a linux file system. But I want to leave a door open in case I have any problems with linux, to be able to acces my linux file system with windows. I know that there are programs that can give you read-write acces to a ext2/3/4 FS (I tested none). I need advice in choosing the right FS, what are the diferences between ext 2/3/4 and what is the best software to do that.

  • "sr0" I/O read boot error in Xubuntu 12.10

    - by Entropicurity
Just recently upgraded Xubuntu 12.10 after having installed 12.04 originally. Ever since that happened, any time I inserted a disk into my DVD/CD reader/writer I would end up getting a number of error messages from my DVD player/Audio player softer, typically with any of them either crashing or returning a GStreamer backend error. So doing some research I tried to mount it manually, and it typically returned the error messages you'll see below: (using the dmesg | grep "sr0" command) [17545.435584] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 [17545.492968] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.492981] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.492992] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.493003] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] CDB: [17545.493020] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 [17545.493058] EXT3-fs (sr0): error: unable to read superblock [17545.553224] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.553237] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.553247] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.553258] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] CDB: [17545.553275] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 [17545.553312] EXT4-fs (sr0): unable to read superblock [17545.611482] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.611494] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.611504] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] [17545.611514] sr 3:0:0:0: >[sr0] CDB: [17545.611531] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 [17545.611568] FAT-fs (sr0): unable to read boot sector When I grepped this, the number of error messages just seemed to spill all over the screen, and typically all revolve around the I/O error. I then went into VLC and tried to run the stuff through there, but for some reason it won't read with the default devices. Instead I have to manually input sr0 into each of the /dev/ references and it will play just fine, until I exit out of the program, at which point I have to re-input everything. I have already installed all the media dependencies, both open source and restricted, through the software center. I just found this strange, as out of the box 12.04 there wasn't any problem what so ever. At this point, it could be that all my audio CD's are not in a format that is familiar with the OS (I've read in some places that EXTF4 has issues with this) but I don't see how that could be a problem when the above error messages even tested to see if it is EXT3 as well? I've tried my best to troubleshoot this up till now using existing topics, but it seems that this is a regular problem with a multitude of varying factors that incorporate into it, including but not limited to read/write problems with the format of the CD and right protection. Is there something integral that I am missing?

  • Ubuntu missing from the Grub menu

    - by varevarao
Recently I've had some audio issues with Ubuntu (using precise), and in the process of trying to resolve that I ran a dist-upgrade. Everything went just fine, and the sound seemed good, until I rebooted my machine for the first time since the dist-upgrade. • I dont know how to run e2fsck or fsck and what are their differences

    - by Salvador
My Kern.log file advise me to run e2fsck. Aug 30 14:10:11 ubuntu kernel: [ 122.378292] EXT4-fs (sda11): warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is recommended Aug 30 14:10:11 ubuntu kernel: [ 122.387488] EXT4-fs (sda11): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null) /dev/sda11 is not mounted within my current OS (Ubuntu 10.04) I have known that e2fsck is a dangerous command when running against the root partition which is at the same hard disk as sda11. I would trust in this solution better than others: Can I run fsck or e2fsck when Linux file system is mounted?

  • boot issues - long delay, then "gave up waiting for root device"

    - by chazomaticus
I've had this issue on and off for about two years now. I noticed it on a new (custom built) machine running 10.04 when that first came out, but then it went away until a few months ago. I've gone through a number of hard drive changes but I can't say specifically what if anything I changed hardware-wise to make it stop or start happening. I had assumed upgrading to a modern Ubuntu version would fix the issue, so I installed 12.04 beta on a spare partition last night, but it's still happening. Here's the issue. After grub loads and I select a kernel to boot, the screen goes blank save for a blinking cursor. It sits in this state for many long minutes before it finally gives up and gives me an initramfs shell with the message gave up waiting for root device (and lists the /dev/disk/by-uuid/... path it was waiting for) but no other specific diagnostic information. Now, here's the tricky part. For one, the problem is intermittent - sometimes it progresses from the blinking cursor to the Ubuntu splash boot screen in a few seconds, and once it gets that far it always continues booting fine. The really bizarre thing is that I can "force" it to "find" the root device by repeatedly pressing the space bar and hitting the machine's power button. If I tap those enough, eventually I will notice the hard drive light coming on, at which point it will always continue the boot process after a few seconds. Interestingly, if I wait slightly too long before pressing the power button (30s?), as soon as I press it I get the gave up waiting message and the initramfs shell. I've tried setting up /etc/fstab (and the grub menu.lst or whatever it's called nowadays) to use device names (e.g. /dev/sda1) instead of UUIDs, but I get the same effect just with the device name, not UUID, in the error message. I should also mention that when I boot to Windows 7, there is no issue. It boots slowly all the time just by virtue of being Windows, but it never hangs indefinitely. This would seem to indicate it's a problem in Ubuntu, not the hardware. It's pretty annoying to have to babysit the computer every time it boots. Any ideas? I'm at a loss. Not even sure how to diagnose the issue. Thanks! EDIT: Here's some dmesg output from 10.04. The 15 second gap is where it was doing nothing. I pressed the power button and space bar a few times, and the stuff at 16 seconds happened. Not sure what any of it means. • How to modify grub entry for supporting KGDB kernel image?

    - by Nishant
I am trying to update target m/c grub.cfg file for KGDB setup but while booting the m/c it got hung completely and not asking/waiting for remote gdb connection. Following is the entry which I added:- menuentry 'Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-24-kgdb' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { recordfail insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 12878c3b-c553-4b4b-986a-6e32daea3ad1 linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-kgdb root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu-root ro kgdbwait [email protected]/,@192.168.140.158/ quiet initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-24-server } I have also compiled and copied /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15.5-kgdb & /boot/System.map-2.6.15.5-kgdb to target m/c from devlopement m/c. STD entry before adding KGDB in grub.cfg was:- menuentry 'Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-24-server' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { recordfail insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 12878c3b-c553-4b4b-986a-6e32daea3ad1 linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-24-server root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu-root ro quiet initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-24-server } Please suggest how to get rid of this problem.

  • Block-level deduplicating filesystem

    - by James Haigh
I'm looking for a deduplicating copy-on-write filesystem solution for general user data such as /home and backups of it. It should use online/inline/synchronous deduplication at the block-level using secure hashing (for negligible chance of collisions) such as SHA256 or TTH. Duplicate blocks need not even touch the disk. The idea is that I should be able to just copy /home/<user> to an external HDD with the same such filesystem to do a backup. Simple. No messing around with incremental backups where corruption to any of the snapshots will nearly always break all later snapshots, and no need to use a specific tool to delete or 'checkout' a snapshot. Everything should simply be done from the file browser without worry. Can you imagine how easy this would be? I'd never have to think twice about backing-up again! I don't mind a performance hit, reliability is the main concern. Although, with specific implementations of cp, mv and scp, and a file browser plugin, these operations would be very fast, especially when there is a lot of duplication as they would only need to transfer the absent blocks. Accidentally using conventional copy tools that do not integrate with the FS would merely take longer, waste some bandwidth when copying remotely and waste some CPU, as the duplicate data would be re-read, re-transferred and re-hashed (although nothing would be re-written), but would absolutely not corrupt anything. (Some filesharing software may also be able to benefit by integrating with the FS.) So what's the best way of doing this? I've looked at some options: lessfs - Looks unmaintained. Any good? [Opendedup/SDFS][3] - Java? Could I use this on Android?! What does [SDFS][4] stand for? [Btrfs][5] - Some patches floating around on mailing list archives, but no real support. [ZFS][6] - Hopefully they'll one day relicense under a true Free/Opensource GPL-compatible licence. Also, 2 years ago I had a go at an attempt in Python using Fuse at the file-level to be used over the top of a typical solid FS such as EXT4, but I found Fuse for Python underdocumented and didn't manage to implement all of the system calls. My first post here, so I can't post more than 2 links until I get over 10 rep: [3]: http://www.opendedup.org/ [4]: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=SDFS&action=edit&redlink=1 [5]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btrfs#Features [6]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZFS#Linux

  • ASP.NET- using System.IO.File.Delete() to delete file(s) from directory inside wwwroot?

    - by Jim S
Hello, I have a ASP.NET SOAP web service whose web method creates a PDF file, writes it to the "Download" directory of the applicaton, and returns the URL to the user. Code: //Create the map images (MapPrinter) and insert them on the PDF (PagePrinter). MemoryStream mstream = null; FileStream fs = null; try { //Create the memorystream storing the pdf created. mstream = pgPrinter.GenerateMapImage(); //Convert the memorystream to an array of bytes. byte[] byteArray = mstream.ToArray(); //return byteArray; //Save PDF file to site's Download folder with a unique name. System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder(Global.PhysicalDownloadPath); sb.Append("\\"); string fileName = Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".pdf"; sb.Append(fileName); string filePath = sb.ToString(); fs = new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.CreateNew); fs.Write(byteArray, 0, byteArray.Length); string requestURI = this.Context.Request.Url.AbsoluteUri; string virtPath = requestURI.Remove(requestURI.IndexOf("Service.asmx")) + "Download/" + fileName; return virtPath; } catch (Exception ex) { throw new Exception("An error has occurred creating the map pdf.", ex); } finally { if (mstream != null) mstream.Close(); if (fs != null) fs.Close(); //Clean up resources if (pgPrinter != null) pgPrinter.Dispose(); } Then in the Global.asax file of the web service, I set up a Timer in the Application_Start event listener. In the Timer's ElapsedEvent listener I look for any files in the Download directory that are older than the Timer interval (for testing = 1 min., for deployment ~20 min.) and delete them. Code: //Interval to check for old files (milliseconds), also set to delete files older than now minus this interval. private static double deleteTimeInterval; private static System.Timers.Timer timer; //Physical path to Download folder. Everything in this folder will be checked for deletion. public static string PhysicalDownloadPath; void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs on application startup deleteTimeInterval = Convert.ToDouble(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["FileDeleteInterval"]); //Create timer with interval (milliseconds) whose elapse event will trigger the delete of old files //in the Download directory. timer = new System.Timers.Timer(deleteTimeInterval); timer.Enabled = true; timer.AutoReset = true; timer.Elapsed += new System.Timers.ElapsedEventHandler(OnTimedEvent); PhysicalDownloadPath = System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironment.ApplicationPhysicalPath + "Download"; } private static void OnTimedEvent(object source, System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs e) { //Delete the files older than the time interval in the Download folder. var folder = new System.IO.DirectoryInfo(PhysicalDownloadPath); System.IO.FileInfo[] files = folder.GetFiles(); foreach (var file in files) { if (file.CreationTime < DateTime.Now.AddMilliseconds(-deleteTimeInterval)) { string path = PhysicalDownloadPath + "\\" + file.Name; System.IO.File.Delete(path); } } } This works perfectly, with one exception. When I publish the web service application to inetpub\wwwroot (Windows 7, IIS7) it does not delete the old files in the Download directory. The app works perfect when I publish to IIS from a physical directory not in wwwroot. Obviously, it seems IIS places some sort of lock on files in the web root. I have tested impersonating an admin user to run the app and it still does not work. Any tips on how to circumvent the lock programmatically when in wwwroot? The client will probably want the app published to the root directory. Thank you very much.
