  • C# function normal return value VS out or ref argument

    Hi People, I've got a method in c# that needs to return a very large array (or any other large data structure for that matter). Is there a performance gain in using a ref or out parameter instead of the standard return value? I.e. is there any performance or other gain in using void function(sometype input, ref largearray) over largearray function(sometype input) ? Thanks in advance!

  • "Executing SQL directly; no cursor" error when using SCOPE_IDENTITY

    There wasn't much on google about this error, so I'm askin here. I'm switching a PHP web application from using MySQL to SQL Server 2008 (using ODBC, not php_mssql). Running queries or anything else isn't a problem, but when I try to do scope_identity (or any similar functions), I get the error "Executing SQL directly; no cursor". I'm doing this immediately after an insert, so it should still be in scope. Running the same insert statement then query for the insert ID works fine in SQL Server Management Studio. Here's my code right now (everything else in the database wrapper class works fine for other queries, so I'll assume it isn't relevant right now): function insert_id(){ $x = $this->query_first("SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY('session_log') as insert_id"); echo "($x)"; return $x; } query_first being a function that returns the first result from the first field of a query (basically the equivalent of execute_scalar() on .net).   • C# Cursor stuck on busy state

    So I implemented a fixed time step loop for my C# game. All it does at the moment is make a square bounce around the screen. The problem I'm having is that when I execute the program, the window doesn't allow me to close the program and the cursor is stuck on the busy icon. I have to go into visual studio and stop the program manually.   • Ubuntu won't start - blank screen with flashing white cursor

    My laptop is dual-booted with Windows 8 on one partition and Ubuntu 12.04.3 on the other. I've searched for my issue already, but nothing I've found so far has solved the problem. Since last week, when I try to boot Ubuntu from GRUB, I am taken to a purple screen (as usual), but then to a black screen with a blinking white _ cursor. I've tried leaving it, but nothing else happens. When I hold Shift and edit the GRUB entry to change 'quiet slash' to 'text', the back screen instead asks for my login and password. When I put them in, it tells me the date of my last logon, and then waits for further commands. Being very very new to Ubuntu, I have no idea at all what to try out at this point. I tried to launch FailsafeX, but while that was beginning, it said "unable to run server /usr/bin/x" No such file or directory", then shortly after returned to the recovery mode menu. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete goes through an Ubuntu loading screen, then the laptop then restarts. Any suggestions will be very appreciated, and apologies if this is a common issue that has been answered a million times before.

  • Chrome targeted CSS

    I have some CSS code that hides the cursor on a web page (it is a client facing static screen with no interaction). The code I use to do this is below: *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blank.cur'), pointer; } Blank.cur is a totally blank cursor file. This code works perfectly well in all browsers when I host the web files on my local server but when I upload to a Windows CE webserver (our production unit) the cursor represents itself as a black box. Odd. After some testing it seems that chrome only has a problem with totally blank cursor files when served from WinCE web server, so I created a blank cursor with one pixel as white, specifically for chrome. How do I then target this CSS rule to chrome specifically? i.e. *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blank.cur'), pointer; } <!--[if CHROME]> *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blankChrome.cur'), pointer; } <![endif]-->

  • F# ref-mutable vars vs object fields

    I'm writing a parser in F#, and it needs to be as fast as possible (I'm hoping to parse a 100 MB file in less than a minute). As normal, it uses mutable variables to store the next available character and the next available token (i.e. both the lexer and the parser proper use one unit of lookahead). My current partial implementation uses local variables for these. Since closure variables can't be mutable (anyone know the reason for this?) I've declared them as ref: let rec read file includepath = let c = ref ' ' let k = ref NONE let sb = new StringBuilder() use stream = File.OpenText file let readc() = c := stream.Read() |> char // etc I assume this has some overhead (not much, I know, but I'm trying for maximum speed here), and it's a little inelegant. The most obvious alternative would be to create a parser class object and have the mutable variables be fields in it. Does anyone know which is likely to be faster? Is there any consensus on which is considered better/more idiomatic style? Is there another option I'm missing?

When i look into my cursor in the onStart() method i find a number of records but when i try to use them in my trigger() method it has zero records. the field private Cursor c; in onStart() c = dbHelper.fetchAllRecords(); in trigger() c.getCount() returns null I didn't close the cursor earlier than in my onDestroy() method

Now when user clicks on a button called "Sin" the textbox should show "Sin[]" and the cursor has to be placed in between brackets.Like as follows "Sin[<cursor here]" Now when the user clicks on some other button say "Cos" the textbox text should show "Sin[Cos[]]" and the cursor has be placed between the brackets of Cos as follows: "Sin[Cos[<cursor here]]". The 2nd cursor which returns the resultset to the jdbc is not closed within the stored procedure. Upon executing I encounter cursor is closed exception which is puzzling.   • Sometimes, Synaptics Touchpad Tends Cursor to Top-Right Corner

    This has been a reoccurring issue for me, pretty much since I've owned this laptop (an ASUS G60JX.) Sometimes, the cursor will stop working properly and instead tend toward the top right of the screen. Basically, sometime into my usage (maybe after a couple hours) the touchpad will inevitably begin to malfunction, where it has confusing patterns of pushing the mouse cursor toward the top right of the screen. In addition, certain features (like momentum) seem to quit working entirely. It makes using the cursor extremely difficult. I've been having this issue across very many drivers. Pretty much as soon as multitouch came into the mix, although I don't believe multitouch has anything to do with it. It appears that, in the state of malfunction, it doesn't matter how you touch the touchpad, but where you touch it. Certain regions do not seem to trigger the cursor to move to the top right corner. In fact, no specific region seems to, but some areas do so more often than others. The issue can be resolved temporarily by putting the computer into sleep mode and awakening it. I have found no way to recreate this success without sleeping the computer or rebooting. Disabling and re-enabling the touchpad device does not do anything to resolve the problem. This issue does not affect my WACOM tablet nor any USB mice, and can be resolved (not to my satisfactory) by uninstalling the touchpad drivers. I'm looking for a solution, or at least a workaround that doesn't require sleep mode.

  • Vim move cursor one character in insert mode without arrow keys

    This might seem a little too overboard, but I switched to vim and I so happy about the workflow now. I try to discipline myself not to use the arrow keys, as keeping the hands on the alfa-keys all the time is such a big thing when writing. So when I need to navigate I get out of insert mode, move in normal mode and get back in insert mode. There is an exception where this is actually more disrupting: I use clang complete with snippets and super tab which is great. Except every time I get a function auto completed after I fill in the parameters I am left with the cursor before ) so to continue I have to move the cursor one character to the right. As you can imagine this happens very often. The only options I have (as far as I know) are : Escla or ?, and I am not happy about neither of them. The first one makes me hit 3 keys for just a simple 1 character cursor move, the second one makes me move my hand to the arrow keys. A third option would be to map CTRL-L or smth to ?.   • Ubutu 14.04 triple screen, third screen black and X cursor

    I am having some issues getting my third screen working properly. I had triple screens working fine on 12.04, using 2 nvidia cards. Did a fresh install of 14.04 and having no end of problems getting it working. It either will just be disabled, or the screen is black with the cursor as an X. I can only enable it from the nvidia server settings tool. The Ubuntu native display settings won't even show the 3rd screen. I tried copying the xorg.conf from my old install, which upon restarting X worked fine on the login screen, but then it just sat there after I logged in and didn’t do anything (mouse was still working). I am using gnome-session-fallback instead of unity if that makes any difference. Still having these issues if I try unity though. How do I get my 3rd screen working and displaying a desktop?     When I do a git pull I get this error error: unable to resolve reference refs/remotes/origin/LT558-optimize-sql: No such file or directory From git+ssh://remoteserver/~/misk5 ! [new branch] LT558-optimize-sql -> origin/LT558-optimize-sql (unable to update local ref) error: unable to resolve reference refs/remotes/origin/split-css: No such file or directory ! [new branch] split-css -> origin/split-css (unable to update local ref) I've tried git remote prune origin, but it didn't help. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

    I have the following F# functions which makes use of a ref variable to seed and keep track of a running total, something tells me this isn't in the spirit of fp or even particular clear on its own. I'd like some direction on the clearest (possible fp, but if an imperative approach is clearer I'd be open to that) way to express this in F#.   • Why jquery.animate on a textarea make the blinking cursor disapears?

    Hello everyone. I have the following code $(document).ready(function() { $("#myTextArea").focus(function() { $("#myTextArea").animate({ "height": "75px"}, "normal"); return false; }); to expand a textbox when it gets focus. The expand occurs, however the blinking cursor disapears, at least in Firefox! Edited: The textarea is still focused, and i can type on it. Why does this happen? Is there a way to show it again?
