  • Matching users based on a series of questions

    I'm trying to figure out a way to match users based on specific personality traits. Each trait will have its own category. I figure in my user table I'll add a column for each category: id name cat1 cat2 cat3 1 Sean ? ? ? 2 Other ? ? ? Let's say I ask each user 3 questions in each category. For each question, you can answer one of the following: No, Maybe, Yes How would I calculate one number based off the answers in those 3 questions that would hold a value I can compare other users to? I was thinking having some sort of weight. Like: No -> 0 Maybe -> 1 Yes -> 2 Then doing some sort of meaningful calculation. I want to end up with something like this so I can query the users and find who matches close: id name cat1 cat2 cat3 1 Sean 4 5 1 2 Other 1 2 5 In the situation above, the users don't really match. I'd want to match with someone with a +1 or -1 of my score in each category. I'm not a math guy so I'm just looking for some ideas to get me started.

    Hi I have a very simple WPF project comprising a Window and Usercontrol. I'm very much in a learning phase. It works fine when I run it. However, I am unable to see the form in design time. The problem, I believe is something to do with namespaces, but I don't understand where.     I am trying to make a racing game with an overhead view looking down. There will be a separate mc for the ground and another separate mc for the players car. How can I do this? O ya and just in case i am thinking the way I did: I tried to "rotate" the ground but when the car moves down the ground it moves away from the registration point, so therefore it rotates non relative to the car i want to make this game in as3.

The most important things I want this series to answer is : What is it?  Why do I care? How do I do it? I hope that you enjoy this series. Let’s get started: Tip/Trick #11) What is it? Underline Text in a TextBlock. Why do I care? I’ve seen people do some crazy things to get underlined text in a Silverlight Application. In case you didn’t know there is a property for that. How do I do it: On a TextBlock you have a property called TextDecorations. You can easily set this property in XAML or CodeBehind with the following snippet: <UserControl x:Class="SilverlightApplication19.MainPage" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <TextBlock Name="txtTB" Text="MichaelCrump.NET" TextDecorations="Underline" /> </Grid> </UserControl> or you can do it in CodeBehind… txtTB.TextDecorations = TextDecorations.Underline;   Tip/Trick #12) What is it? Get the browser information from a Silverlight Application. Why do I care? This will allow you to program around certain browser conditions that otherwise may not be aware of. How do I do it: It is very easy to extract Browser Information out a Silverlight Application by using the BrowserInformation class. Always check the minRuntimeVersion after creating a new Silverlight Application. Why do I care? Whenever you create a new Silverlight Application and host it inside of an ASP.net website you will notice Visual Studio generates some code for you as shown below. The minRuntimeVersion value is set by the SDK installed on your system. Be careful, if you are playing with beta’s like “Lightswitch” because you will have a higher version of the SDK installed. So when you create a new Silverlight 4 project and deploy it your customers they will get a prompt telling them they need to upgrade Silverlight. They also will not be able to upgrade to your version because its not released to the public yet. How do I do it: Open up the .aspx or .html file Visual Studio generated and look for the line below. Make sure it matches whatever version you are actually targeting. Tip/Trick #14) What is it? The VisualTreeHelper class provides useful methods for involving nodes in a visual tree. Why do I care? It’s nice to have the ability to “walk” a visual tree or to get the rendered elements of a ListBox. I have it very useful for debugging my Silverlight application. How do I do it: Many examples exist on the web, but say that you have a huge Silverlight application and want to find the parent object of a control.  In the code snippet below, we would get 3 MessageBoxes with (StackPanel first, Grid second and UserControl Third). This is a tiny application, but imagine how helpful this would be on a large project. <UserControl x:Class="SilverlightApplication18.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <StackPanel> <Button Content="Button" Height="23" Name="button1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="75" Click="button1_Click" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </UserControl> private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { DependencyObject obj = button1; while ((obj = VisualTreeHelper.GetParent(obj)) != null) { MessageBox.Show(obj.GetType().ToString()); } } Tip/Trick #15) What is it? Add ChildWindows to your Silverlight Application. Why do I care? ChildWindows are a great way to direct a user attention to a particular part of your application. This could be used when saving or entering data. How do I do it: Right click your Silverlight Application and click Add then New Item. Select Silverlight Child Window as shown below. Add an event and call the ChildWindow with the following snippet below: private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ChildWindow1 cw = new ChildWindow1(); cw.Show(); } Your main application can still process information but this screen forces the user to select an action before proceeding.     I'm trying to redirect users to a subdomain in server2 if they make an https request to server1. I only have one certificate, and that's installed on server2. So for instance, from (server1) https://www.example.com to (server2) https://ssl.example.com My best guess is that I will need a certificate for https://www.example.com as the hostname is encrypted inside the HTTP header so my server won't know to redirect until it's decrypted. However, I'm curious if this is possible without two certificates?

  • Consolas Font In Vista And Win7

    I have downloaded the Consolas font from Microsoft and installed it on my Windows Vista box. Consolas is also present on my Windows 7 box. When I use PuTTY, being sure to use the same settings on both machines, the Windows 7 box can render Unicode line/box drawing characters in Consolas, but the Windows Vista box cannot. What is the relevant difference between them? If Consolas has the characters, why would they only appear on one system, and not on the other? I am logging into the same remote host each time, and I have been very carefully checking PuTTY's settings to make sure that they're the same on both machines. How can I make Consolas render Unicode line-drawing characters on Vista?

  • Video Card needs additional mounting support

    We are creating a fairly decent system with crossfire. The issue we are having is apparently the video cards are physically to heavy to be supported purely by the motherboard and case mounts. Whenever we have the case horizontal everything works fine however when we bring the case upright the computer stops working. Relevant Info: Video Cards (2) - Sapphire 5870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102856) MotherBoard - Asus M4A79T Deluxe Case - CoolerMaster 922 HAF To me it looks as if an additional support bracket that could hold up the end of the card would be required (included with the viideo cards!!!) Does anyone have any experience with this.

  • Best solution for Multi-WAN failover (inside & out)?

    Looking for a way to setup 2 ISPs in failover mode, for both incoming & outgoing traffic, for our small (<100 devices) network. The leading contender for now seems to be the Peplink Balance 310. However, a reseller I spoke with said it's great for 100% outgoing connectivity, but didn't seem to be confident in its abilities to handle incoming traffic. This is important as we host our own web site, Exchange e-mail, and virtual desktops (RDP). Do any Peplink owners use this for failover of incoming traffic? Are there other devices I should be considering? We're currently using a Cisco 1800 series router & ASA 5500 series firewall, with Comcast & T-1 lines (the goal being to replace the T with DSL/FiOS {whenever that becomes availble}). Price range: ~$1000 - $2500 USD. Thanks.

    I need to be able to access my server (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) from remote sites, but I'd like to worry a bit less about password complexity. Thus, I'd like to require that SSH keys be used for login instead of name/password. However, I still have a lot to learn about security, and having already badly broken a test box when I was trying to set this up, I'm acutely aware of the chance of screwing myself while trying to accomplish this. So I have a second goal: I'd like to require that certain IP ranges (e.g. 10.0.0.0/8) may log in with name/password, but everyone else must use an SSH key to log in. How can I satisfy both of these goals? There already exists a very similar question here, but I can't quite figure out how to get to what I want from that information. Current tactic: reading through the PAM documentation (pam_access looks promising) and looking at /etc/ssh/sshd_config.

    I am using DNSmasq, OpenDNS and DYNDNS. DYNDNS is for my FTP site, and I am using OPEN DNS to filter porn from my kids itouch/ipad. However, I would like a few computers to have the capability to bypass openDNS, and pass through to a fast DNS server like google or similar. I would also like to fowrard all traffice from DYNDNS to my FTP server. Any ideas? This is what I have thus far.. strict-order dhcp-mac=filter,00:25:64:DB:A8:8A dhcp-option=net:filter,6,8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 Its not working thus far, can someone help me accomplish what I want to do?

  • New Windows 7 Libraries created keep disappearing

    I've just got a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 7 Professional edition. One of the new features of Windows 7 is Libraries. I'm familiar with how this works and am trying to create my own library called 'Work' to include all my work folders on my computer. However every time I create a new custom Library, after I rename it, it disappears from my Library menu. Each time I click Libraries in the Explorer, I keep seeing the same 4 default libraries, I.e. Documents, Pictures, Music, and Video. So when I try to create a new Library called 'Work' again, I get a pop up message "Do you want to rename New library to Work (2).Library-Microsoft?" Which means that my original work library still exists but for some reason I can't see it. Can someone please help me figure out why this is happening?

  • How can I find the space used by a SQL Transaction Log?

    The SQL Server sp_spaceused stored procedure is useful for finding out a database size, unallocated space, etc. However (as far as I can tell), it does not report that information for the transaction log (and looking at database properties within SQL Server Management Studio also does not provide that information for transaction logs). While I can easily find the physical space used by a transaction log by looking at the .ldf file, how can I find out how much of the log file is used and how much is unused?

  • Bridging VirtualBox over OpenVPN TAP adapter on Windows

    I'm trying to configure a virtual machine (VirtualBox guest running Backtrack 4) with a bridged adapter over a VPN connection. The VPN is is hosted by the cybersecurity club at my university, and connects to a sandboxed LAN designed for penetration testing against various servers that the club has built. My host (Windows 7 Ultimate) connects to the VPN fine and is assigned an IP through DHCP, but for some reason the VM can't do the same thing, and I'm not sure why. It's like OpenVPN is filtering out packets from the MAC address it doesn't recognize. I want the virtual machine to bridge over the VPN connection, because our IT office has very strict policies about what you can and can't do on the network. I want to be able to run active attacks (ARP spoofing, nmap, Nessus scans) in the sandbox environment without risking the traffic accidentally going over the university network and getting my internet access revoked. Bridging over the VPN connection and running all attacks from inside the VM would solve that problem. Any idea why the host can use this interface, but the VM can't?

For now I'm just chalking the failure to parse CIDR addresses up to a quirk of my install, and resolving to try again when I go to Ubuntu 10.04 not too long from now. PAM turns out not to be necessary.

    I have a website on a hosted server whose mail users are using their ISPs SMTP to send mail. I have set their SPF record to look like this: v=spf1 mx a:comcast.net ip4:216.70.103.0/24 ip4:216.70.101.0/24 ip4:76.96.53.0/24 -all the SMTP host is comcast.net, 76.96.53.0/24 is the ip range they get assigned from. ip4:216.70.103.0/24 ip4:216.70.101.0/24 are the two possible SMTP ranges they could get IF they used their hosting account mail servers [media temple] They are still getting SPF errors, any idea why?

  • Duplicate of Certificate Templates does not appear in Certificate Template to Issue

    I'm following what should be simple instructions to enable LDAP SSL on our domain controller (instructions here). Duplicating the Kerberos certificate is successful however, when attempting to select "Certificate Template to Issue", the created certificate does not appear. What gives? A long time ago, I actually completed this step on a now decommissioned DC with no problem. Our environment is Windows Server 2008 Standard, and we have two domain controllers. Only one has the role of certificate authority. I look forward to any help here, thank you ahead of time.
