• WPF Show Open TabItem Names in a List View

  I'm trying to display a list of open tab names in a listview or listbox (recommendations?). Been going through the different type of binding options and I'm able to bind to a single tab name but it displays vertical instead of horizontal. Here is my XAML: <ListView DockPanel.Dock="Left" Height="352" Name="listView1" Width="132" ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=RulesTab, Path=Name}" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" FlowDirection="LeftToRight" HorizontalAlignment="Left" HorizontalContentAlignment="Left" DataContext="{Binding}"> Any pointers would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to be able to see a list of all the tabs open and then double click on one to bring the tab into focus.   I'm trying to create a application that will be tabbed where each tab will have a button area and a view area. Now each tab will essentially have the same layout just different things in the layout and I wanted to be able to reuse the same layout so that I won't have to change at many places ( it's just not good programming ). Can I accomplish this using resources or perhaps Styles. Please supply a light code example if possible.

• WPF Textbox "normal" text input

  G'day, I'm not sure if this is a problem relevant to only me or if anyone else has this issue also. None the less, I'll try and describe what is going on here. I have a few textbox's, default style, etc. I set an explicit maxwidth and maxheight to prevent resize when the text exceeds the default width of the textbox. The issue is that the text wraps to the next line, but I only want single line. So I set maxlines to 1 and textwrapping to NoWrap. That's fine. Now the carat and typed text disappears under the edges of the textbox when the width is exceeded and the only way I can get the carat and newly typed text back into view is by pressing the left and right arrows. Coming from MFC and using textboxes all the time with HTML, I would have thought the default behaviour would be to have the textbox content scroll with the carat or am I missing something here? • Collapsed Visibility Within a WPF ComboBoxItem

  I used a Style setter to stretch out my ComboBoxItem (and button) so that it spans the entire length of the ComboBox like so: <ComboBox > <ComboBox.Resources> <Style TargetType="ComboBoxItem"> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Stretch" /> </Style> </ComboBox.Resources> <ComboBoxItem > <DockPanel > <Button Content="My Button" /> </DockPanel> </ComboBoxItem> </ComboBox> This works fine. Now, I add an additional button within the same ComboBoxItem, but have it set to Visibility Collapsed. <ComboBox > <ComboBox.Resources> <Style TargetType="ComboBoxItem"> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Stretch" /> </Style> </ComboBox.Resources> <ComboBoxItem > <DockPanel > <Button Content="My Button" /> <Button Content="My Collapsed Button" Visibility="Collapsed" /> </DockPanel> </ComboBoxItem> </ComboBox> Now, the new button is invisible, but I expected my original button to still stretch the entire ComboBox, like it does with the above code. However, it does not. Why is this so? Is there a solution for this? I am using DataTriggers to edit the Visibility property. NOTE: I also get the same thing if I just set HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" in the ComboBox. UPDATE: Ok, this actually has something to do with the DockPanel. I changed it to a StackPanel, and it works as desired. However, I suppose I'm still curious as to why my first button would not stretch the entire DockPanel if the second button is collapsed?

  How do I make a WrapPanel with some items having a Height of *? A deceptively simple question that I have been trying to solve. I want a control (or some XAML layout magickry) that behaves similar to a Grid that has some rows with a Height of *, but supports wrapping of columns. Hell; call it a WrapGrid. :) Here's a mockup to visualize this. This mockup is just two grids side by side and I manually moved buttons around in the designer. Conceivably, this could be done programmatically and serve as a sort of convoluted solution to this. How can this be done? I will accept any solution whether it's through xaml or has some code-behind (though I would prefer pure XAML if possible since xaml code behind is tougher to implement in IronPython).   I have a ListView that is binded to my custom collection. At run time , I am updating the certain properties of my entity in my custom collection in my ViewModel. At the same time , I am also doing the custom sorting in the listview. The custom sorting is applicable when I click on the any column header of the listview. For example, I am updating the current datetime on my entity on every 5 seconds and simulaneously , I am applying custom sorting based on DateTime. (The Listview is third party control). Hence I am doing two operations on my custom collection at the same time. Should I pass the dispatcher of my control in the view model and call any methods ( which updates any entity in my custom collection ) through UI dispatcher ?

• Wpf: Loading DataGrid in Groupbox causes Groupbox to be too tall

  I have a GroupBox that contains a stackpanel holding a textbox and a datagrid. When I use the textbox to populate the datagrid. Sometimes I need to load the datagrid with values. What I am noticing is that when the groupbox renders when the datagrid has values that the height of the groupbox is maxed out to the size of its parent container. And when I add a value via the textbox the groupbox snaps back to its proper height. Is there something that I am missing? • WPF - Only want one expander open at a time

  I have a UserControl with a templated grouped listbox with expanders and only want one expander open at any time. I have browsed through the site but haven't found anything except binding the IsExpanded to IsSelected which isn't quite what I want. I am trying to put some code in the Expanded event that would loop through Expanders and close all the ones that aren't the expander passed in the Expanded event. I can't seem to figure out how to get at them. I've tried ListBox.Items.Groups but didn't see how to get at them and tried ListBox.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem (or Index) but nothing came back.   I have an control with a mouse down event where Id like to chnage the Image when the image is clicked. But I cant seem to alter ANY of the images properties in the event.   Hi, I am using MVVM to show the database records in a gridview (ListView view). i have a textbox where we can enter the text to be searched in the results listed in the gridview. i tried many ways to highlight the search text (Not the entire row only the text matches in the record) in the records displayed in the list view but unable to highlight. i am able to find the starting and ending indexes. i tried to created rectangles using those indexes on the text block but unable to highlight. The output show me my object but with the pink square at more or less 50% rate! So if I try to draw more sprites, it's like a little poney dream. Note If I apply Color.Black on the Draw method, the sprite is like expected :|

• IntelliTrace Causing Slow WPF Debugging in Visual Studio 2010

  Just a quick note to myself (and others that may stumble across this blog entry via a web search): If a WPF application is running slow inside the debugger of Visual Studio 2010, but perfectly fine without a debugger (e.g. by hitting Ctrl-F5), then the reason may be Intellitrace. In my case switching off Intellitrace (only available in the Ultimate Edition of Visual Studio 2010) helped gitting rid of the sluggish behavior of a DataGrid. In the “Tools” menu select “Options”, on the Options dialog click “Intellitrace” and then uncheck “Enable Intellitrace”. Note that I do not have access to Visual Studio 2012 at the time of this writing, thus I cannot make a statement about its debugging behavior.

• Databinding to an Entity Framework in WPF

  Is it good to use databinding to Entity Framework's Entity in WPF? I created a singleton entity framework context: To have only one connection and it won't open and close all the time. So I can pass the Entity around to any class, and can modify the Entity and make changes to the database. All ViewModels getting the entity out from the same Context and databinding to the View saves me time from mapping new object, but now I imagine there is problem in not using the newest Context: A ViewModel databinding to a Entity, then someone else updated the data. The ViewModel will still display the old data, because the Context is never being dispose to refresh. I always create new Context and then dispose of it. If I want to pass the Entity around, then there will be conflicts between Context and Entity. What is the suggested way of doing this ?
