  • Rails single table inheritance/subclass find condition in parent

    - by slythic
    Hi all, I have a table called Users (class User < ActiveRecord::Base) and a subclass/STI of it for Clients (class Client < User). Client "filtering" works as expected, in other words Client.find(:all) works to find all the clients. However, for users I need to filter the result to only find users that are NOT clients (where type is null or blank). I've tried the following in my index controller but no matter what I put for the type it returns all users regardless of type. User.find(:all, :conditions => { :type => nil }, :order => 'name') Any clue on how to get this condition to work? Thanks!

  • Rails routes creating additional info in URL

    - by Danny McClelland
    Hi Everyone, Say if I have a model called 'deliver' and I am using the default URL route of: # Install the default routes as the lowest priority. map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' So the deliver URL would be: http://localhost:3000/deliver/123 What I am trying to work out, is how to use another field from the database alongside or instead of the ID. For example. If I have a field in the create view called 'deliveraddress', how do I put that into the routes? So I can have something link this: http://localhost:3000/deliver/deliveraddress Thanks, Danny

  • Unobtrusive jQuery and Rails with AJAX and form validation

    - by bogumbiker
    Hello, I am looking for a way to call successfully custom function from submitHandler to do proper ajax post. Here is my custom function: jQuery.fn.submitWithAjax = function() { this.submit(function() { $.post(this.action, $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return false; }) return this; }; Before using validate plugin I had following which worked fine: $(document).ready(function() { $("#my_form").submitWithAjax(); } Now I have added the validation part and have no idea how to call my custom submitWithAjax function?? $(document).ready(function() { $("#my_form").validate({ /*Validations - works perfectly!! */ }, submitHandler: function(form) { /* $("#my_form").submitWithAjax(); - this works but introduces recursion */ /* how to call custom subitWithAjax() ????? */ } }); }) Thanks!

  • will_paginate undefined method error - Ruby on Rails

    - by bgadoci
    I just installed the gem for will_paginate and it says that it was installed successfully. I followed all the instructions listed with the plugin and I am getting an 'undefined method `paginate' for' error. Here is the code: PostsController def index @tag_counts = Tag.count(:group => :tag_name, :order => 'updated_at DESC', :limit => 10) @posts = Post.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 50 respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @posts } format.json { render :json => @posts } format.atom end end /model/post.rb class Post < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :body, :title has_many :comments, :dependent => :destroy has_many :tags, :dependent => :destroy cattr_reader :per_page @@per_page = 10 end /posts/views/index.html.erb <%= will_paginate @posts %>

  • in rails should i be installing as a gem or a plugin

    - by drake
    I am trying to use acts_as_audited plugin. Should I be installing it as a gem (put it in environment.rb) or a plugin? what is the advantage of one over the other. Later on I plan to put this app on the clients server for permanent hosting. so am I better off having it as a gem? if it is as a gem ...when i put the app on the clients server..will I not have to get this plugin again?

  • Using will_paginate with AJAX live search with jQuery in Rails

    - by Mark Richman
    I am using will_paginate to successfully page through records. I am also using AJAX live search via jQuery to update my results div. No problem so far. The issue I have is when trying to paginate through those live search results. I simply get "Page is loading..." with no div update. Am I missing something fundamental? # index.html.erb <form id="searchform" accept-charset="utf-8" method="get" action="/search"> Search: <input id="search" name="search" type="text" autocomplete="off" title="Search location, company, description..." /> <%= image_tag("spinner.gif", :id => "spinner", :style =>"display: none;" ) %> </form> # JobsController#search def search if params[:search].nil? @jobs = Job.paginate :page => params[:page], :order => "created_at desc" elsif params[:search] and request.xhr? @jobs = Job.search params[:search], params[:page] end render :partial => "jobs", :layout => false, :locals => { :jobs => @jobs } end # Job#search def self.search(search, page) logger.debug "Job.paginate #{search}, #{page}" paginate :per_page => @@per_page, :page => page, :conditions => ["description LIKE ? or title LIKE ? or company LIKE ?", "%#{search}%", "%#{search}%", "%#{search}%"], :order => 'created_at DESC' end # search.js $(document).ready(function(){ $("#search").keyup(function() { $("#spinner").show(); // show the spinner var form = $(this).parents("form"); // grab the form wrapping the search bar. var url = form.attr("action"); // grab the URL from the form's action value. var formData = form.serialize(); // grab the data in the form $.get(url, formData, function(html) { // perform an AJAX get, the trailing function is what happens on successful get. $("#spinner").hide(); // hide the spinner $("#jobs").html(html); // replace the "results" div with the result of action taken }); }); });

  • Using JSON input in Ruby method on Rails

    - by Zachary
    I am using jQuery to make an AJAX call to a ruby method in my controller. The javascript looks something like this: var latLongJSON = { "address": [ {"lat" : 50, "long" : 50} ] }; var returnedAddresses; $.ajax({ type: "GET", data: latLongJSON, url: "map/getaddresses", success: function(data) { returnedAddresses = JSON.parse(data); } }); Then in my 'getaddresses' method, my parameter coming through looks like: Parameters: {"address"=>"[object Object]"} I'm not sure what to do with this. I'm fairly new to Ruby, and I'm not sure if I need to convert this to something else, or what. Ideally I want to be able to pass in multiple sets of lat/long in the 'address' array, then be able to iterate over those in my Ruby code.

  • Background processing in rails

    - by hashpipe
    Hi, This might seem like a FAQ on stackoverflow, but my requirements are a little different. While I have previously used BackgroundRB and DJ for running background processes in ruby, my requirement this time is to run some heavy analytics and mathematical computations on a huge set of data, and I need to do this only about the first 15 days of the month. Going by this, I am tempted to use cron and run a ruby script to accomplish this goal. What I would like to know / understand is: 1 - Is using cron a good idea (cause I'm not a system admin, and so while I have basic idea of cron, I'm not overly confident of doing it perfectly) 2 - Can we somehow modify DJ to run only on the first 15 days of the month (with / without using cron), and then just stop and exit once all the jobs in the queue for the day are over (don't want it to ping the DB every time for a new job...whatever the jobs will be in the queue when DJ starts, that will be all). I'm not sure if I have put the question in the right manner, but any help in this direction will be much appreciated. Thanks

And i want to validate birthyear like this: validates_inclusion_of :birthyear, :in => Date.today.year-50..Date.today.year-12 So the user can be at least 12 years but at most 50 years when they are registering. But my problem is that the variable from the input is a string and not an integer. So how can i convert the input to an integer? or is there any easier way to check the users age? Thanks, Micke

  • rails i18n - translating text with links inside.

    - by egarcia
    Hi there! I'd like to i18n a text that looks like this: Already signed up? Log in! Note that there is a link on the text. On this example it points to google - in reality it will point to my app's log_in_path. I've found two ways of doing this, but none of them looks "right". The first way I know involves having this my en.yml: log_in_message: "Already signed up? <a href='{{url}}'>Log in!</a>" And in my view: <p> <%= t('log_in_message', :url => login_path) %> </p> This works, but having the <a href=...</a> part on the en.yml doesn't look very clean to me. The other option I know is using localized views - login.en.html.erb, and login.es.html.erb. This also doesn't feel right since the only different line would be the aforementioned one; the rest of the view (~30 lines) would be repeated for all views. It would not be very DRY. I guess I could use "localized partials" but that seems too cumberstone; I think I prefer the first option to having so many tiny view files. So my question is: is there a "proper" way to implement this?

  • Using devise with Rails 3 beta

    I'm currently trying to use Devise 1.1.pre3 as authentication in my upcoming project, but I can't get it to work properly. I have done everything it says in the documentation, installed warden and the correct Devise version, run the install and used the generator to create the model. But when I try to access the sign up form (localhost:3000/users/sign_up) all I get is No route matches "/users/sign_up" But when I run rake routing I get the following: ... GET /users/sign_up(.:format) {:controller=>"devise/registrations", :action=>"new"} ... I doesn't have any files matching that controller. Is there any steps I have missed (installed, updated routing etc and created model)
