• 2013 EC Elections Results

  The 2013 Fall Executive Committee (EC) Elections process is now complete.  Congratulations to the following JCP Members as the new and re-elected EC Members!   We had a slight increase in JCP Member voter turnout at ~25% (up from 24% in 2012).  All Ratified candidates and the top eight Elected candidates were elected by the JCP Membership.  As part of the transition to a merged EC, Members elected in 2013 are ranked to determine whether their initial term will be one or two years. The 50% of Ratified and 50% of Elected members who receive the most votes will serve an initial two-year term, while all others will serve an initial one year term (details below). Ratified Seats: Credit Suisse, Ericsson, Freescale, Fujitsu, Gemalto M2M, Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Nokia, Red Hat, SAP, SouJava, Software AG, TOTVS and V2COM. Open Election Seats: Eclipse Foundation, Twitter, London Java Community, CloudBees, ARM, Azul Systems, Werner Keil and MoroccoJUG. • How do I connect Ubuntu to Sony Bravia LED TV via HDMI?

  My laptop connects to 46" Sony Bravia LED TV using HDMI cable in Windows without any problem. However, it just doesn't work with Ubuntu 12.04. It always says No Signal. Problem somewhat persists after upgrading to 13.04. Bravia detects my laptop as a connection now but I am unable to display anything. What drivers/applications should I install to connect via HDMI? • Planning Bulletin for JRE 7: What EBS Customers Can Do Today

  An initiative to certify Oracle E-Business Suite with JRE 7 desktop clients is underway.  We have tested EBS 11.5.10.2, 12.0, and 12.1 with JRE 7. We have fixes for nearly all of the compatibility issues now, and are working hard to produce the remaining fixes quickly. A. When will JRE 7 be certified with Oracle E-Business Suite? We will announce the certification of the E-Business Suite with JRE 7 once all fixes are available, verified, and documented.  Certification announcements will be distributed through My Oracle Support, My Oracle Support Community Forums, Oracle Technology Network Forums, newsletters, and user group news outlets. Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates.  In addition to the standard communication channels listed above, customers are encouraged to monitor or subscribe to this blog.    B. What can customers do to prepare for the JRE 7 certification? Customers should ensure that they are on the latest available JRE 6 update. Of the compatibility issues identified so far with JRE 7, the most critical is an issue that prevents E-Business Suite Forms-based products from launching on Windows desktops that are running JRE 7.  Customers can prevent this issue today by ensuring that they have applied the latest certified patches documented for JRE 6 configurations to their EBS application tier servers: Apply Forms patch 14615390 to EBS 11i environments (Note 125767.1) Apply Forms patch 14614795 to EBS 12.0 and 12.1 environments (Note 437878.1) These patches are compatible with JRE 6 and 7, production ready, and fully-tested with the E-Business Suite.  These patches may be applied immediately to all E-Business Suite environments. All other Forms prerequisites documented in the Notes above should also be applied now. C. What else will be required by the final certified configuration? Oracle expects that all other compatibility issues will be resolved by installing a specific JRE 7 release, at minimum.  That specific release has not been finalized yet, and this is subject to change. D.  Where will the official patch requirements be documented? • Cursor running wild, then crashes on an Asus G73sw

  The cursor sometimes goes wild, I get random clicks, the windows are resizing, the cursor disappears. In the worst case, clicks and keyboards are disabled. I've tried the solution given on doc.ubuntu-fr.org and add tu grub : i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1 in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT But it didn't work What can I do ? Graphic card : Geforce GTX460M. Ubuntu : 11.10 (64 bits). Laptop Asus G73sw Interface : Unity (since 11.10) - didn't get this problem with Gnome before. Complement: when a window is resizing, it gets drag-boxes at every corner, center of sides and center of the window. • No suspend on lid closing on a Samsung Series 5 14" NP530U4BI

  Ok, i realize I am not the only one, but I will try to provide all info possible to make it exemplary as possible and narrow down the error sources. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 and the suspend worked fine upon having it freshly installed but now it does not anymore. The suspend option from the system power button on the top right works fine. Things I did do which I don't know if they are related: Install and remove againthe FGLRX drivers (Radeon graphic card) Install Jupiter power managment (shutting it down is not changin anything) Plug in and out an external display The configuration I know of is well set: In System Settings/Power all is set to suspend when closing lid Double checked with dconf-editor, everything set to suspend So, from here on I don't know how to proceed.. what are common problems that cause this error?   I'm trying to redirect url's in my /joomla/ folder containing "rsform" to the same url but except for /joomla/ /formulieren/. However my tried .htaccess rewrite doesn't work. I tried: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} rsform RewriteRule ^(.+)$ http://watervriendengeleen.nl/joomla/ [L,R=301] And other URL related rewrites like Redirect /joomla/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=12&Itemid=99999 http://sitename.com/formulieren/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=12&Itemid=99999 which didn't work either. Any thoughts?

• failure to restore backup from deja dup

  I had ubuntu 12.04.1 and I made a backup with deja dup of the home folder in an external hard disk. Today I installed ubuntu 14.4 and erased the ubuntu 12.04.1. Now I'm trying to restore my back up. First it ask where is the back up to restore, then it ask of what date to restore, and then it starts, after a wile ask for the password. I put the password and it says Restoring and stays in preparing with out any advancement. Don't show any error, just stays preparing. The window of details is in white. I had all my documents... it's very bad for me, all my personal data... lost? Thanks for any help, Layla.

• Flashing task bar(firefox) in lxde panel and ubuntu internal error

  I have upgraded from ubuntu10.04 to 12.04 and installed lxde. The panel is now customized according to my convenience. The problem is there was a default checked option for "Flash when there is any window requiring attention" in Task bar(window list) and now when I run firefox, at times the concerned bar in the panel window list starts flashing but it is not clear exactly why at that moment firefox requires my attention. Normally this happens after I download some files (pdf files) and keep using firefox. The only solution I have found is to quit firefox and even after that I receive this message "Sorry, ubuntu12.04 has experienced an internal error. If you notice further problems, try restarting the computer." As usual I report the detailed message to ubuntu as suggested and finally restart the computer. So there are two problems, first, exactly why firefox needs my attention at times and second, why immediately after this, ubuntu experiences an internal error. Please suggest what I should do.

• Computer won't reboot without waiting for a while

  I've got an unusual problem with my computer. When ever I reboot my computer it won't boot, I get a few beeps from the BIOS and nothing else, however if I wait for a few minuets the computer will boot perfectly. I tried to count the beeps and I get around 7-9 of them; the first two are noticeably closer together than the rest. [Edit: I'm now reasonably confident it's 1 long followed by 8 short beeps. • What to do when Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit does not boot?

  Ubuntu 13.10 will not boot, it won't even show the grub menu or Ubuntu booting. There is just a purple screen for 20 seconds then a black screen, then the screen says entering power save mode. here are my system specs:Intel DQ965GF Motherboard (OS independant), Intel core 2 64-bit, 12GB HHD (SATA), 200GB HHD (SATA, installed here), 250GB HHD (SATA, Encrypted with LUKS), 3GB DDR2 RAM (DIMM 0 A 1024MB,DIMM 1 A 524MB, DIMM 0 B 1024MB, DIMM 1 B 524MB),2 Rewritable DVD drives (one SATA and one IDE), small floppy drive and car reader, and AMD gallium 0.4. That's all I know from the top of my head, I have no OS to give me more info on the graphics card, but all Ubuntu OSs worked on my PC from 12.04-13.04 just fine. Does this mean will never be able to use Ubuntu 13.10? I think I am screwed.

  I use a laptop and this laptop has readon AMD Radeon HD 6470M and onboad graphic card. When I run fglrxinfo, I get this error: X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 136 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 Is it a problem ? Because of I reason I can't use opengl. Because, I can't run any opengl applications.

  Ubuntu 12.04 can't install Firefox 13 update, because the package is corrupted. While attempting to install, returns this error (I translated it from my language to English). /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but was not there - dpkgGo (10: There are no "child" processes). I can tell that the package at /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb is corrupted, but even as admin, I can't delete it in order to be downloaded again. • Unstable after moving headless server from usb-hdd to usb pendrive

  Ubuntu server 12.04.1 running from usb-hdd is rock solid for months. After copying the partitions to a Kingston usb pendrive the system will only run for 3-4 days before some services fail. Is running 12.04.1 from usb pendrive a viable approach? How do I troubleshoot the problem? In the meanwhile, I have reverted back to usb-hdd. Willing to buy a usb pendrive that is known to work. Recommendations?

• Ubuntu not starting up after shutdown while upgrading

  I had ubuntu 11.10 installed and I was upgrading it to Ubuntu 12.04.1. While upgrading my computer got shut down due to heating issues. Afterwards its not starting up and gets stuck at a black screen. I can use ctrl+alt+f1 to go to command line. But I dont know how to resolve this issue from there. It shows me a message the ubuntu release 12.04.1 is available and run the command "do-release-upgrade" to upgrade to it. But when I run this command, it errors out saying "no new release found". Can anyone suggest what to do ? Thanks !
