• Project change makes qtp to fail

  We are using 2 or more projects in an application to be opened. For e.g. HT1000 & HT1200 will be opened by the application, objects are the same(or common) for both the projects. Code uses the values in excel framework for running the test cases as parent to identify the child objects for e.g. Window("HT1000").Dialog("parts").Click("OK") but when we just change the parent name in excel framework as "HT1200" the objects for HT1200 are not getting accessed. How to resolve this? Is it needed to again add the HT1200 project & objects in the object repo of qtp?

• Saving a "project"-type document (containing sub-documents)

  I'm trying to create a "project"-like document, in that it contains subdocuments in a specified directory. I'd like a brand new save of a document to set up that directory with appropriate subdirectories. I'd like a "Save As" to copy all those subdirectories and any files within them to the new location. But I'd like a "Save" to only update certain data files and (of course) not overwrite all the subdocuments! What's the "safe" way to do this? I tried keeping track of the file's location in my document, and checking to see if it was the same or different than the save location, but it feels messy, and I'm worried that Apple is doing something behind the scenes that will make this direct URL-to-URL comparison fail in some circumstances. Is there a standard way to do something like this?

• Partial compilation of openwrt project

  I would like to get an idea or reference to compile only subset on the openwrt project. i am aware of the menuconfig utility but this is not enough for my goal. i would like to compile only the tool-chain (binutils + gcc + glibc) for a specific target (ar71xx) and also the kernel. now, after looking in the makefiles etc, i have noticed that most of the work in actually patching the toolchain and the kernel and then compile it. is there any option to stop build process after the patching so i can have only the source code patched and i can write my own make file to compile it?

• Documentation of a software project

  I am working with a team that works on a very large software project, we have tons of Documentation that is written in MS WORD format with nohyperlinked indexes, no search ability. Everyday we waste our time trying to find the exact document or reference. I was thinking if there was way or even a professional tool that would convert all this into a wiki format and maybe with a little manual (painful) help be organised into something that improves the accessibility. I use Google Desktop Search to make my life a little easier but its not the best solution I just want to know if any of you faced similar problems and possible solutions to this issue.

• In an ASP.NET Web Site Project, what is the best option to manage modular widgets

  We are creating a modular Web Site Project and all the UI is based on simple html pages with javascript widgets. These widgets obtain the data from a WCF class located in the app_code folder. Each widget has 3 files [ js, css , cs] and an image directory: , and we want all these files to be located under the same directory, say: /widgets/mywidget/ The problem is that the .cs file needs to be in the app_code folder to be compiled dynamically and that would break our widget modularity forcing the installator to distribute the widget code in two places. One of the options is use compiled assemblies instead of .cs files and use Assembly.Load() or smthg similar to load them when needed. What other options do you see?

  Basically my project is product based. Once we developed a project and catch the multiple client and deploy the application based on their needs. But We decided to put the new features and project dependent modules are as component. Now my application got many number of customer. Every customer needs a different features based on the component. But we have centralized component for all client . we move the components additional feature to client specific folder and deploy. My problem is , I am unable maintain the components features for multiple client. My component feature code is increased and I am unable to track the client features. Is there any solution for maintaining the multiple component features for multiple client ?

  I have a set of projects, each has been configured to build with maven, and each has assembly plugin enabled. So, I have something like that: project1/ target/ lib/ ... project1-1.0.jar start.sh ... project2/ target/ lib/ ... project2-1.0.jar start.sh ... I need to create parent project, and configure assembly for it, which must include all subproject's assemblies. parent_project/ target/ project1/ lib/ ... project1-1.0.jar project2/ lib/ ... project2-1.0.jar start.sh ... How can I achieve this?

• Adding Boost Library to a C++ project in Windows Eclipse

  I recently installed the Boost Library on Windows using the installer, I'm trying to link to the library in Eclipse but am not having any luck. I tried going through Project Properties - C/C++ Build - Settings - MinGW C++ Linker - Libraries and add the reference "boost_filesystem" according to this website: http://www.ferdychristant.com/blog//archive/DOMM-76JN6N , but I think that only applies to Unix variants. Everytime I compile I get the error: "cannot find -lboost_filesystem" . I've scoured the net, but cannot find a way to properly use Boost in Eclipse under a Windows platform. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

• JavaScript distributed computing project

  I made a website that does absolutely nothing, and I've proven to myself that people like to stay there - I've already logged 11+ hours worth of cumulative time on the page. My question is whether it would be possible (or practical) to use the website as a distributed computing site. My first impulse was to find out if there were any JavaScript distributed computing projects already active, so that I could put a piece of code on the page and be done. Unfortunately, all I could find was a big list of websites that thought it might be a cool idea. I'm thinking that I might want to start with something like integer factorization - in this case, RSA numbers. It would be easy for the server to check if an answer was correct (simply test for modulus equals zero), and also easy to implement. Is my idea feasible? Is there already a project out there that I can use?

  Hi all. I need some opinions here. I'm working on a Django project using buildout to get the dependencies, etc... I use mercurial as DVCS. Now... I need to customize one of the dependencies, so I can do one of the following: (* The changes may not be useful for everyone else.) 1- Do a fork of the project in (github, bitbucket, etc...) maintain my version, and get the dependency with (mercurial or git) recipe. 2- Clone the project, put it in the PYTHONPATH, erase DVCS dirs and add it to my projects version. So every change will be private. Here I need to erase all the info from their DVCS or something. Any other you can think of. I'm missing something? I'm too off? Thanks!

  I have a scene in my WPF project with about 2000 different user controls: <local:MyControlType x:name="aaka4sn9f" /> <local:MyControlType x:name="aaks22nf_1" /> <local:MyControlType x:name="aa66s2f_2" /> and so on down the screen... Is there a way to rename all of these controls using Visual Studio (and possibly a regex) to be: <local:MyControlType x:name="myControl1" /> <local:MyControlType x:name="myControl2" /> <local:MyControlType x:name="myControl3" /> ?? • Use Google AppEngine datastore outside of AppEngine project

  For my little framework Pyxer I would like to to be able to use the Google AppEngine datastores also outside of AppEngine projects, because I'm now used to this ORM pattern and for little quick hacks this is nice. I can not use Google AppEngine for all of my projects because of its's limitations in file size and number of files. A great alternative would also be, if there was a project that provides an ORM with the same naming as the AppEngine datastore. I also like the GQL approach very much, since this is a nice combination of ORM and SQL patterns. Any ideas where or how I might find such a solution? Thanks.

  I would like to set up my codeigniter projects so I can use it in any folder on my webserver. Unfortunately codeigniter requires me to specify the location in several variables of the config. This is a problem for portability. There are 3 places where I see this: 1) $config['base_url'] 2) $config['base_path'] 3) .htaccess RewriteRule So far, I have found the solution to (1) here: http://codeigniter.com/wiki/Automatic_base_url/ I am looking for solutions to (2) and (3), but most importantly (3). Here is an example situation: I set .htaccess to have the RewriteRule as follows: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /folderA/index.php/$1 [L] Then I go into my repo and check out the project to another folder to make some separate changes. Now I have to update .htaccess to show the following: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /folderB/index.php/$1 [L] I would like to set it so I dont have to make any config changes when I check out another copy.

  I come from a web development background, and I am new to the world of OCR. After comparing a few OCR libraries, the one that yielded the best results was Tesseract. I would like to make an application that takes screenshots and perform OCR on those using Tesseract. Ideally, it would be in Java or C#, but I can also do it in C++ or Python if needed.   Hello, I have followed the basic GWT tutorial for creating a project in Eclipse. Now, I am trying to build off what I learned in the tutorial. I created a static utility class to perform some database connection logic. However, when I try to compile I get: [ERROR] Line 46: No source code is available for type com.sample.server.ConnectionUtil; did you forget to inherit a required module? Where can I put simple classes that I've created on my own? Do they have to be outside the package structure of the basic module, 'com.sample'? Or do I have to specify a whole new module in the gwt.xml file and inherit from that? There has to be something simple I'm missing.

• Log4j - Logging to multiple log files based on the project modules

  Consider this scenario: I have a project with two modules and one common module as below (the package structure): com.mysite.moduleone com.mysite.moduletwo com.mysite.commonmodule In the above, the commonmodule classes can be used by other two modules. The question: I need to configureLog4J such a way that the log messages from moduleone and moduletwo goes to different log file. I can always do this using using category. But the real problem is when I want to log the messages from the commonmodule also. So, when the commonmodule classes are called from moduleone the commonmodule log messages should go to the moduleone log file. If the commonmodule is accesse from moduletwo the commonmodule log messages should go to moduletwo log file. Is it possible to configure Log4J in this fashion? Any comments? PS: I think I made my question clear. If any confusion, leave a comment, wil try to clear it. :)

• Use of LOC to determine project size

  How many lines of code (LOC) does it take to be considered a large project? How about for just one person writing it? I know this metric is questionable, but there is a significant difference, for a single developer, between 1k and 10k LOC. I typically use space for readability, especially for SQL statements, and I try to reduce the amount of LOC for maintenance purpose to follow as many best practice as i can. For example, I created a unified diff of the code I modified today, and it was over 1k LOC (including comments and blank lines). Is "modified LOC" a better metric? I have ~2k LOC, so it's surprising I modified 1k. I guess rewriting counts as both a deletion and addition which doubles the stats.

  hi, i have created a cab file using visual studio smart device cab project. i've managed to generate a cab file and install onto a mobile phone successfully. for my installation, it will also insert into registry. however, for this it is not working. the registry value is suppose to be like this including the double quote: "\Program Files\app\file.exe" "%1" i read that to include '%', i have to insert extra % which will be like this: "\Program Files\app\file.exe" "%%1" but this is still not getting insert into the registry. however, if i remove the double quotes which looks like this, it works: \Program Files\app\file.exe %%1 Thanks.

The code may look something like this: CALL MyBatchFile.bat "$(fileVersion.ProductVersion($(var.My Application.TargetPath)))" But this results in the following error: Unhandled Exception:The expression """.My Application" cannot be evaluated.   I'm trying to follow the "Your first project" tutorial at http://wiki.fluentnhibernate.org/Getting_started and have hit a roadblock. When I try to run the console application, I'm getting this error: An invalid or incomplete configuration was used while creating a SessionFactory. Check PotentialReasons collection, and InnerException for more detail. I have created a SQLite database "firstProject.db" and referenced the full path to the file in the call to: return Fluently.Configure() .Database(SQLiteConfiguration.Standard .UsingFile(DbFile)) .Mappings(m => m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<Program>()) .ExposeConfiguration(BuildSchema) .BuildSessionFactory(); so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.   I have a Visual Studio Setup project and have followed the steps mentioned in this link to load the Shared Add-in Support Update for the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (KB908002) to the prerequisites list. The entry appears but there is this following warning shown No 'HomeSite' attribute has been provided for 'Shared Add-in Support Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (KB908002)', so the package will be published to the same location as the bootstrapper. I use the Download component from the component vendor's website option. How do I set a homesite for this update so that the update is directly downloaded and installed. I do not want to distribute the update along with my setup. Thanks

• How to break a series of git commits into patches for submission to another project

  So I've been bashing away at my favorite open source project for quite some time, and It's time for submitting issues with patches back. I have to regroup my commits more or less fully, and hopefully extract some pieces of code that can function as distinct patches to avoid code bombing. Currently I usually do something like this: rebase/squash everything to one commit since the old ones often don't make sense as patches undo that commit start adding stuff that I think fits to one commit, using add/add -i commit stash the rest test that commit re-apply the stash and start from 3 until all is accounted for It works, but is there a better way ?
