  • ASP.NET mvc 2 Validation always shows errors on initial page load.

    I've searched around a lot, and honed this problem down to this case: I'm using the PRG pattern, pragmatically I'm using the same DTO for my post/get actions. It looks like when I have the dto with the data annotation attributes in the get action parameter list, the validation is always displaying errors, every time on initial page load. In some cases this could be desired behavior if you put asterisks in the error message, but how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance.

  • Ajax Auto Complete in ASP.Net MVC project - How to display a an object's name but actually save it's

    I have implemented the Ajax Autocomplete feature in my application using a web service file that querys my database and it works great. One problem I am having is allowing the user to see the item's name, as that's what they are typing in the textbox, but when they select it, it saves the item's ID number instead of the actual name. I want it to behave much like a dropdown list, where I can specify what is seen and entered vs. what is actually saved in the database (in this case, the product ID instead of it's name.)     Hello! I tried to catch 404 errors like this... But when i try to load http://localhost:11415/wfwe/wefwe/ - all good work. When i try to load http://localhost:11415/order/ - fail (with error The RouteData must contain an item named 'action' with a non-empty string value.) When i try to load http://localhost:11415/Images/ - fail with error File does not exist My routes: routes.Add("Order", new LowercaseRoute("Order/{action}/{id}", new RouteValueDictionary( new { controller = "Order", action = "", id = UrlParameter.Optional }), new MvcRouteHandler())); routes.Add("NotFound", new LowercaseRoute("{*url}", new RouteValueDictionary( new { controller = "Pages", action = "Http404", }), new MvcRouteHandler())); Why route NotFound - don't catch all 404 error. I am displaying this data in a table on my View. For the Gender I want to display 'Male' or 'Female', how and where do I manipulate the 1's and 0's? Is it done in the repository where I fetch the data or in the View? For the Active column I want to show a checkBox that will AutoPostBack on selection change and update the Active filed in the Database. How is this done without Ajax or jQuery?

Essentially I have a model called ProductOption and for the purpose of this question it has 2 fields ID (Int) PK ProductID (Int) FK I have a standard route set-up context.MapRoute( "Product_default", "Product/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Product", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); and if the user wants to add an option the URL is, /Product/Options/Add/1 in the above URL 1 is the ProductID, I have the following code to return a blank model the the view, [HttpGet] public ActionResult Add(int id) { return View("Manage", new ProductOptionModel() { ProductID = id }); } Now in my view I keep a hidden field <%= Html.HiddenFor(x=>x.ID) %> This is used to determine (on submit) if we are editing or adding a new option. However the Model binder in .net seems to replace .ID (Which was 0 when leaving the above get actionresult) with 1 (or the value of the id parameter in the URL) How can I stop or work around this?     Hi Guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with knowing how I can save items from a list I have in Application state in the global.asax as- Application[""]. My controller basically takes in some user input, I then pass this to another classes Method as parameters it gets added to a list all the time. This data thats getting added to the list I want to store it, but without using a db. By using Application State. . I have been instantiating this class and calling its method to return the list of items but I dont think Application State is saving it.   • Using entity framework to connect to multiple similar tables in .net MVC.

    A relative newcomer to .net MVC2 and the entity framework, I am working on a project which requires a single web application, (C# .net 4), to connect to multiple different databases depending on the route of access, (ie subdomain). No problem with this in principle and all the logic is written to transform the subdomain into an entity connection and pass this through to the Entity Model. The problem comes with the fact that the different database whilst being largely similar in structure contain 3 or 4 unique tables bespoke to that instance. To my mind there are two ways to solve this issue, neither of which i am sure will be possible. 1/ Use a separate entity model for each database. -Attempts down this route have through up conflicts where table/sp names are the same across differnt db's, or implicit conversion errors when I try and put the different models in different namespaces. or 2/ Overwrite the classes which refer to the changeable database objects based on the value of a base controller property. -I have found nothing to suggest i can even do this. My question is if either of theser routes can ever work in principle or if i should just give up on the EF and connect to the dtabases directlky using ADO. Perhaps there is another way to solve this problem i haven't thought of? Thanks for any help...

  • How? Encrypt and Decrypt user membership passwords in ASP.NET

    We are creating a new site using ASP.NET membership provider for user registration and log in. Our old system encrypted user passwords so that we could recover them if we needed to. I am having a great deal of trouble figuring out if it is possible to use ASP.NET membership functions to simply encrypt the password when the user registers and then unencrypt it so I can see it. Documentation for this is neigh non-existant. I know how to configure Web.config to have it store passwords as encrypted ala passwordFormat="Hashed" in the provider and assigning a validationKey in the machineKey, however it seems like the password still gets hashed (though perhaps it is just well encrypted). Either way I cannot decifer how the password can be recovered (by us) if neccessary. Thanks!

I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?

  • I want to prevent ASP.NET GridView from reacting to the enter button

    I have an ASP.NET page with a gridview control on it with a CommandButton column with delete and select commands active. Pressing the enter key causes the first command button in the gridview to fire, which deletes a row. I don't want this to happen. Can I change the gridview control in a way that it does not react anymore to pressing the enter key? There is a textbox and button on the screen as well. They don't need to be responsive to hitting enter, but you must be able to fill in the textbox. Currently we popup a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental deletes, but we need something better than this.
