Connection established to google DNS, can't resolve any hosts

As you can see from the picture above, I am connected to google DNS but am unable to resolve any hostnames. When I try to ping sites like google.com, yahoo.com, etc, I get 'ping: unknown host'. Yes, I am able to ping localhost, I am able to ping hostname.domain.com, but not domain.com. I can't ping my nameservers. I can ping all hosts by IP address and that works. Apache/Jboss Issue - is this connection timeout?

We have an application. The architecture is as below 1 load balancer (apache), which redirects to 2 app servers (jboss). The site is working fine and I am able to access it fine. But sometimes, randomly the homepage takes a while (like 30-40 secs) to load. I tried checking the logs but could not figure out why. I used the httptraffic analyzer, fiddler to see the traffic, but it just says the request/response took 30 secs or so. I checked the apache access logs, mod_jk.log. svnserve accepts only local connection

I've installed svnserve in linux box konrad. Remote desktop connection

My work computer is running on Windows 7 Ultimate, and my home laptop is running on Windows 7 Home Premium. I want to connect my work computer from my home laptop, but whenever I try to do it gives me an error message saying: Remote desktop can't connect to the computer for one of the following reasons 1.Remote access to the server is not enabled. 2.The remote computer is turn off. 3.The remote computer is not available in the network. But when I tried to connect from my colleague's desktop I can connect to my computer. Please help me. I need to connect to my work computer from home.

open mysql to any connection on ubuntu

I simply want to open up mysql to be accessible from any server ip. I have already commented out the bind-address in /etc/mysql/my.conf. I have already setup the user account within mysql. I have no clue whats stopping me from connecting. The more challenging I see this being the more I realize how much of a security risk it is, and I get that, I just want to be able to do it temporarily. I think that the iptables firewall is the last thing that is preventing me from achieving this, but sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT is seemingly doing nothing.

Window 7 image in vmware will allow network connection out but not http

I am currently trying to create a set of images to deploy on my network, but I've run in to a snag. When I create my own Windows 7 image I can successfully use NAT for connecting to the network but whenever I try to access a webpage I get nothing. To be more specific, All firewalls/iptables are disabled on my host machine, my virtual machine, and my network. I can do lookups and all addresses respond correctly (i'm even using Google's DNS). On the host OS i have full connectivity. On the virtual machine I can ping any device I want and all addresses resolve correctly. Within a browser I cannot reach any page via hostname or IP. I feel almost like port 80 is being blocked but i can't find any reason this would be the case. If anyone has had this occur before, I would love some insight to the problem. I understand this question is a bit out of the norm for stackoverflow, but I've run out of ideas. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Unknown MySQL server host - connection problem

I am new to databases and I have been asked to look at a few tables and see how many records they have and some other information. I cannot access phpMyAdmin through cPanel, which is how I've always done it on my own server. I decided to download MySQL Workbench. I enter in all the information is asks: Hostname: mysite.startlogicmysql.com Port: 3306 Username: user. I press connect and get this Unknown MySQL server host 'mysite.startlogicmysql.com' (11004) Am I using the wrong hostname? I've seen a server name, a hostname in the server variables list which is something like custsql.eigbox.net and the server itself is custsql.eigbox.net In both cases the custsql is a little different than what I posted. I am not sure which one to use. If there is anything else anyone needs to know I can tell you. Tanks.

What are the top N tools / methodologies used to diagnose and repair network issues? Given a LAN, for example, where users are able to consistently ping an outside server, but any data intensive connections are flaky; how would you begin solving the network issues? I imagine issues like congestion, bandwidth constraints, throughput constraints, etc. are all factors, but I don't know how to diagnose those issues. I'm especially interested in LAN environments (rather than WAN)

Mac WLAN 802.11b+g WPA1 connection issues

Hi, I have a Telewell TW-EA510v4 ADSL modem+WLAN router configured as follows: Mode: 802.11b+g Security Mode: WPA1 Pre-shared Key WPA Algorithms: TKIP Connections from only certain MAC addresses have been allowed and the MAC address of my Mac is in that list. The WLAN works just fine with iPhone and an old Acer laptop. It has worked for about two months or so with my MacBook Pro (year and a half or so old model). Ocassionally i've had minor problems with it, which have required either reboot of ADSL modem or reboot of my Mac. However now, for the last week or so I haven't been able to connect to it at all. I'm 100% sure of that. Slow Citrix connection related to mapped network drives

I have this weird issue with Citrix being slow and maybe users just being a little dramatic, but I am curious as to why that happens. Let me give you a little bit of a background. Citrix is running off of Windows 2003 server, TSprofiles and file server were located on the same server, until recently. We have moved our file server over to a new server with tons of space. We have Citrix on one server, TSprofiles on another and file server on third. We are using logon scripts to map home drives, shared drive and etc. Now, up until we made the file server move, the logon process took several seconds and most users couldn't even notice logon script being executed as they logon. Now, it takes upwards of several minutes and users can see logon script being executed at a slow pace, one line at a time. The only new variable in this whole scenario is the new file server. All the servers are physically located in the same location and on the same subnet. So, I guess my question is, if anyone can explain why a sudden sluggishness? And any tools I can use to troubleshoot the issue? Thanks!

Remote desktop connection to network printer

I'm trying to print a document from a remote WinXP machine to a network printer I use on a local Win7 machine using Remote Desktop. The network printer does not appear in the list of those available on the WinXP box. In more detail, the local machine runs Windows 7 (no admin rights) and connects to a network printer managed by a print server (i.e. not using a local TCP/IP Port). I have access to a Windows XP host on a separate network which I access using Remote Desktop. I would like to have print requests from the remote XP box forwarded to the network printer I use on the Windows 7 machine. The XP machine cannot access the print server I use on the Win7 machine nor can it create a TCP/IP port to connect directly to the printer (network configuration issues). After having consulting the KB312135 I confirmed the "Printers" option was selected in the Remote Desktop Client, Local Resources Tab, yet the network printer does not appear on the list of available printers on the XP box. Is this a lost cause or is there something else I haven't managed to locate yet?

Intermittent connection issues with atheros ar9285

I have an asus K50IJ which has an atheros ar9285 wifi chip. It has decided to start to randomly drop internet. Although the card doesn't seem to notice it has. It will show full signal instead of say 3 bars. I tried to look at the atheros site for the latest driver but they don't even offer driver downloads. I then checked the asus site and it doesn't even list that card in the downloads for this laptop. I run Windows 7 64bit. It will drop either every minute or once a day while I am doing intensive bandwidth usage and when I am just idling.

Hi, I'm optimizing a site by using lighttpd for the static media. I've found that a recommended solution is to use Apache Proxy to point to the lighttpd server. But, does that use up an Apache thread/process per request? In my setup, I've noticed that all my processes are used up, even though they aren't doing anything, CPU wise. To free up apache processes, I've configured lighttpd and the amount of processes needed is lowered significantly, Munin shows. However, I've set it up to connect directly to lighty, to prevent apache workers from server static media. My question is: when using Apache Proxy, does that also use up a process/worker?

Sendmail is refusing connection after configuring SMTP relay

I'm setting up sendmail on my home computer to use with my webserver. I've set it to use my SMTP server provided by my hosting company. If I use the following command, it works sendmail -Am -t -v and then I enter the to and from emails. But if I try the following, it does not work. sendmail -v [email protected] < test.txt The TO email is the same as in the earlier command, but in this case I haven't specified a FROM e-mail, which I think is the problem. My guess is that it's sending the mail from user@localhost causing the smtp server to reject it. If so, how do I make it send from [email protected]?

Connection timeout when trying to SSH

The other day I tried to connect to my remote server via SSH as i always have. But now when I try to connect it just times out after about 60 seconds. I run service ssh start Which tells me that Job is already running: ssh. Setting up 802.1X wireless connection on OSX

I am an OSX user, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and an updated AirPort. I am trying to connect to my university's wireless network, but it has a complex security that I am having trouble defining... Here there are instructions for connecting with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux. Can someone please instruct me what should I do to set up this network on my MAC? Thank you. P.S. I have had previous success in setting up this network, but I have no idea what I did that made it work. Since I updated my AirPort it worked only seldomly and very slowly... Before the update, even when it worked it never remembered my password.

Strange problem with Exchange client connection

I've got a strange problem with an Exchange 2007 server running on SBS 2008. It's been working fine for users for the last 5 months, then 5 days ago they started getting a problem where Outlook would popup a window asking for credentials. If the user enters there credentials it pops up again and again, however if the user cancels the box it goes away and outlook continues to work fine. These clients all connect using Outlook Anywhere, and OWA access is also working fine. I had thought this message box may have been to do with other POP or IMAP accounts being configured in Outlook, but it's not the case. I have re-configured Outlook Anywhere on the server but to no avail. Using the RPC diagnostic tool in Outlook shows no problems. There are no errors showing in the event log. The server seems to be running fine, so to me this seems like either a client, or an RPC over HTTP issue, but I'm not getting anywhere finding the cause, any help is appreciated!

Connection drops while transferring large files to one server on a network

My company has two sites, each with their own LAN, using site to site VPN tunnel to connect the two sites. When transferring files (especially larger files) from site1 to site2 server1, the file transfer fails. I don't think this can be a VPN issue because transferring the same files to site2 server2 which is on the same network as server1 works fine. Pings to server1 and server2 at site2 from site1 are about the same, mostly 19/20ms with the odd one up to 50ms. As server1 is DB server with a high load I thought the NIC maybe overloaded, but a transfer from site2 server1 to site2 server2 works fine, and that uses the same NIC on server1 as transfers from site1 to site2 server1. Set up Glassfish connection pool to talk to a database on a Ubuntu VPS

On my Ubuntu VPS, i have a mysql server running and a Glassfish 3.0.1 Application Server running. And I am having a hard to have my GF successfully ping the database. Here is my GF set up Assume: x.y.z.t is the ip of my VPS Resource Type: javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource User: root DatabaseName: scholar Url: jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.t:3306/scholar URL: jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.t:3306/scholar Password: xxxx PortNumber: 3306 ServerName: x.y.z.t Inside my glassfish3/glassfish/lib, I have my mysql-connector-java-5.1.13-bin.jar Inside the database, table mysql here is the result of the query select User, Host from user; +------------------+-----------+ | User | Host | +------------------+-----------+ | root | 127.0.0.1 | | debian-sys-maint | localhost | | root | localhost | | root | yunaeyes | +------------------+-----------+ Now from my machine, if I try to connect to this db via mysql browser (mysql client software), well I cant. Well from the table above, seem like it only allow localhost to connect to this db. Keep in mind that both my db and my GF are on the same VPS. Please help

Unable to logon using terminal server connection

I have several W2K3 SP2 servers, admin TS enabled. I discovered this morning, I was unable to logon into some of them. I've a couple of Citrix servers in different farms, a SAP (IA64) app server and a cvs server. All of them show same sympthoms; remote connections are refused. I've been able to logon locally, and terminal server service is up, there are no users (so connections are not depleted). There are no errors in log in most servers. One of the Citrix ones, reported following errors: Event ID 50 Source TermDD Type Error Description The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client. and Event ID 1006 Source TermService Type Error Description The terminal server received large number of incomplete connections. The system may be under attack. Anyway, I suppose these errors appear because server isn't working, and Citrix users try to logon massively. (I nmap'ed server and port seems up). I've solved this problem rebooting before, but with so many servers affected it seems like a crappy workaround. Any idea about troubleshooting it properly? Thanks in advance

How to check wifi networking standard of current connection

Both my router and my wireless networking card support the standards 802.11a/b/g/n but as I'm only getting speeds around 30-40 Mbit/s I suspect that it's the g standard being used instead of n. Now, I'd like to verify this somehow, so my question is: Is there a way (like a network diagnistics tool or the like) to find out which standard is currently used in the communication between computer and router?
