  • What is the last entry in an unfilled array (C++)?

    I put C++ because I'm just starting in C# and I'm not sure if there's a difference. if you declare an array char arr[10] and fill in values for arr[0] through arr[8], what value will be put in arr[9]? a space ' '? An endline '\n'? '\0'? Or is it nothing at all? I'm asking this because I've always used tactics like this char word[20]; for(count = 0 ; count < 20 ; count++) { cout << word[count]; } to print the entire contents of an array, and I was wondering if I could simplify it (e.g., if the last entry was '\0') by using something like this char word[20]; while(word[count] != '\0') { cout << word[count]; } that way, I wouldn't have to remember how many pieces of data were entered into an array if all the spaces weren't filled up. If you know an even faster way, let me know. I tend to make a bunch of mistakes on arrays.

    Hi. Sorry for the title but I don't know other way of asking. I got 2 Dictionary < string,string list One of them has a length of 606 items including null values. The other one has a length of 285 items. I determined the length doing this: int count = 0; for (int i = 0; i < temp.Length; i++) { if (temp[i] != null) count++; } Now I want to assign every value in the temp variable to another variable excluding the null values. Any Idea? Remember that I have a different size variables. Edited Dictionary<string, string>[] info; Dictionary<string, string>[] temp = new Dictionary<string, string>[ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count]; ....   • Issue creating side-by-side slideshows with jQuery

    I'm trying to create a site with 2 slideshows. I've tweaked and re-tweaked the JS and Jquery numerous times. Sometimes one slideshow works perfectly and the other cycles between one picture, other times both work but are out of sync, or the fadeIn doesn't seem to be applied to the second slideshow, or in some variations one slideshow stays frozen on the initial image and just remains static. Anyway, I created a JS Fiddle (link at bottom) and apparently my code is at least free of typos. JS is below, the rest is on the JS Fiddle. First, how should I initialize void* list? Should it hold the actual elements or be an array of pointers pointing to the elements? Second, using the void *Retrieve function, how do I return a pointer to the element stored at a given index in my-list?

  • math.Random isn't working right

    I'm trying to simulate a coin flip using the code below. public class Coin { public static double result; int[] count = new count[2]; public static void flip() { result = Math.random(); } public static boolean isHeads() { if (result == 0.0) { count[0]++; return false; } else { count[1]++; return true; } } public static void main(String[] args) { flip(); isHeads(); System.out.println(count[0]); System.out.println(count[1]); } } For some reason Eclipse says that the import java.util.Random; is never used even though I'm clearly using it. I didn't put my for loop into the code above but it loops n number of times and then outputs the result. No matter how many times it loops it always returns that the result is greater than 0.0 which can't be right. Am I calling Math.random incorrectly?

  • [JavaScript] Function making a slight miscalculation.

    Hi, To begin with, I have a database that holds map data for a game I am creating. A script on my page uses JSON to retrieve a certain amount of that data from the database and store it in an array. When the data is retrieved it goes through a function that finds out how many individual tiles are used in that particular area. Here is the code: var xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest; xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function(){ if(xmlhttp.readyState == 4){ var map = JSON.parse(xmlhttp.responseText); var mapTiles = new Array; for(var count = 0; count < map.length; count ++){ if(map[count]){ if(map[count]['tile'] in mapTiles == false){ mapTiles.push(map[count]['tile']); } } } alert(mapTiles); } } For each time the script finds a tile number that isn't already in the mapTiles array it adds it to it. Currently, the script is fetching 1024 records that all but one contain the tile value of '1' the other of which contains the tile value of '2'. This means that when I alert the mapTiles array it should display "1, 2" but instead it displays "1, 1, 2". So there is a slight error in the script but I cannot find it.

  • How to stream H264 Video from camera over FTP?

    I bought a h264 security camera system last year and set it up to ftp video to my computer. I was able to get the video to play (even though it played a little fast) on Ubuntu 11.04 using mplayer. A few months ago, I did a fresh install of 12.04 and I cannot seem to get the video to play with mplayer, smplayer or VLC. I have the restricted formats video packages installed and when playing with any of the players, all I get is a gray video. When calling mplayer from the command line to play the video with no options, I get a lot of these errors: [h264 @ 0x7f278c61f280]concealing 1320 DC, 1320 AC, 1320 MV errors No pts value from demuxer to use for frame! pts after filters MISSING I'm not a video expert and have been coming up with a lot of dead ends when Googling for this. Could someone offer some advice about how to play these videos?   • Design pattern for logging changes in parent/child objects saved to database

    I’ve got a 2 database tables in parent/child relationship as one-many. I’ve got three classes representing the data in these two tables: Parent Class { Public int ID {get; set;} .. other properties } Child Class { Public int ID {get;set;} Public int ParentID {get; set;} .. other properties } TogetherClass { Public Parent Parent; Public List<Child> ChildList; } Lastly I’ve got a client and server application – I’m in control of both ends so can make changes to both programs as I need to. Client makes a request for ParentID and receives a Together Class for the matching parent, and all of the child records. The client app may make changes to the children – add new children, remove or modify existing ones. Client app then sends the Together Class back to the server app. Server app needs to update the parent and child records in the database. In addition I would like to be able to log the changes – I’m doing this by having 2 separate tables one for Parent, one for child; each containing the same columns as the original plus date time modified, by whom and a list of the changes. I’m unsure as to the best approach to detect the changes in records – new records, records to be deleted, records with no fields changed, records with some fields changed. I figure I need to read the parent & children records and compare those to the ones in the Together Class. Strategy A: If Together class’s child record has an ID of say 0, that indicates a new record; insert. Any deleted child records are no longer in the Together Class; see if any of the comparison child records are not found in the Together class and delete if not found (Compare using ID). Check each child record for changes and if changed log. Strategy B: Make a new Updated TogetherClass UpdatedClass { Public Parent Parent {get; set} Public List<Child> ListNewChild {get;set;} Public List<Child> DeletedChild {get;set;} Public List<Child> ExistingChild {get;set;} // used for no changes and modified rows } And then process as per the list. The reason why I’m asking for ideas is that both of these solutions don’t seem optimal to me and I suspect this problem has been solved already – some kind of design pattern ? I am aware of one potential problem in this general approach – that where Client App A requests a record; App B requests same record; A then saves changes; B then saves changes which may overwrite changes A made. This is a separate locking issue which I’ll raise a separate question for if I’ve got trouble implementing. The actual implementation is c#, SQL Server and WCF between client and server - sharing a library containing the class implementations. Apologies if this is a duplicate post – I tried searching various terms without finding a match though.

  • Oracle GoldenGate Active-Active Part 1

    My name is Nick Wagner, and I'm a recent addition to the Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) product management team.  I've spent the last 15+ years working on database replication products, and I've spent the last 10 years working on the Oracle GoldenGate product.  So most of my posting will probably be focused on OGG.  One question that comes up all the time is around active-active replication with Oracle GoldenGate.  How do I know if my application is a good fit for active-active replication with GoldenGate?   To answer that, it really comes down to how you plan on handling conflict resolution.  I will delve into topology and deployment in a later blog, but here is a simple architecture: The two most common resolution routines are host based resolution and timestamp based resolution. Host based resolution is used less often, but works with the fewest application changes.  Think of it like this: any transactions from SystemA always take precedence over any transactions from SystemB.  If there is a conflict on SystemB, then the record from SystemA will overwrite it.  If there is a conflict on SystemA, then it will be ignored.  It is quite a bit less restrictive, and in most cases, as long as all the tables have primary keys, host based resolution will work just fine.  Timestamp based resolution, on the other hand, is a little trickier. In this case, you can decide which record is overwritten based on timestamps. For example, does the older record get overwritten with the newer record?  Or vice-versa?  This method not only requires primary keys on every table, but it also requires every table to have a timestamp/date column that is updated each time a record is inserted or updated on the table.  Most homegrown applications can always be customized to include these requirements, but it's a little more difficult with 3rd party applications, and might even be impossible for large ERP type applications.  If your database has these features - whether it’s primary keys for host based resolution, or primary keys and timestamp columns for timestamp based resolution - then your application could be a great candidate for active-active replication.  But table structure is not the only requirement.  The other consideration applies when there is a conflict; i.e., do I need to perform any notification or track down the user that had their data overwritten?  In most cases, I don't think it's necessary, but if it is required, OGG can always create an exceptions table that contains all of the overwritten transactions so that people can be notified. It's a bit of extra work to implement this type of option, but if the business requires it, then it can be done. Unless someone is constantly monitoring this exception table or has an automated process in dealing with exceptions, there will be a delay in getting a response back to the end user. Ideally, when setting up active-active resolution we can include some simple procedural steps or configuration options that can reduce, or in some cases eliminate the potential for conflicts.  This makes the whole implementation that much easier and foolproof.  And I'll cover these in my next blog.

  • Enabling Google Webmaster Tools With Your GWB Blog

    I’ll be honest and save you some time, if you don’t have your own domain for your GWB blog, this won’t help, you may just want to move on…  I don’t want to waste your time……… Still here?  Good.  How great are Google’s website tools?  I don’t just mean Analytics which rocks, but also their Webmaster Tools (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/) which gives you a glimpse into the queries that provide you your website traffic, search engine behavior on your site, and important keywords, just to name a few.   Pictured Above: Cool statistics. Problem Thanks to svickn over at wtfnext.com (another GeeksWithBlogs blog), we already have the knowledge on how to setup Google Analytics (wtfnext.com - How to: Set up Google Analytics on your GeeksWithBlogs blog).  However, one of the questions raised in the post, and even semi-answered in the questions, was how to setup Google Webmaster Tools with your blog as well. At first glance, it seems like it can’t be done.  Google graciously gives you several different options on how to authorize that you own a site.  The authentication options are: 1. (Recommended) – Upload an HTML file to your server 2. Add a meta tag to your site’s home page 3. Use your Google Analytics account 4. Add a DNS record to your domain’s configuration Since you don’t have access to the base path, you can’t do #1.  Same goes for #2 since you can’t edit the master/index page.  As for #3, they REQUIRE the Analytics code to be in the <head> section of your page, so even though we can use the workaround of hosting it in the news section, it won’t allow it since it isn’t in the correct place. Solution Last I checked, I didn’t see the DNS record option for Webmaster Tools.  Maybe this was recently added, or maybe I don’t remember it since I was always able to use some other method to authorize it.  In this case though, this is the option that we need.  My registrar wasn’t in their list, but they provide detailed enough instructions for the ‘Other’ option: Simply create a TXT record with your domain hoster (mine is DynDns), fill in the tag information, and then click verify.  My entry was able to be resolved immediately, but since you are working with DNS, it may take longer.  If after 24 hours you still aren’t able to verify, you can use a site such as mxtoolbox.com, and in the searchbox type “txt: {domain-name-here}”, to see if your TXT record was entered successfully. It is pretty simple to setup the TXT entry in DynDns, but if you have questions/comments, feel free to post them. Conclusion With this simple workaround (not really a workaround, but feature since they offer it..), you are now able to see loads of information regarding your standings in the world of the Google Search Engine.  No critical issues?  Did I do something wrong?! As an aside, you can do the same thing with the Bing Webmaster Tools by adding a CNAME record to bing.verify.com…  Instructions can be found on the ‘Add Site’ popup when adding your site. But when I select the combo to change the value, I can see the data and when I change the value, I can see the displayFiel! I don't understand what's the problem?     I am attempting to get process information by using the HP-UX C/C++ library. After scouring the internet, I have discovered that HP-UX has the pstat.h header file which allows programmers to retrieve the process information. After attempting to understand code from the internet hp website, I attempted to create a little test sample to comprehend what the code does. I attempted to use example 3, however, I ran into several issues. The first issue came when I attempted to execute the following line of code: (void)printf("pid is %d, command is %s\n", pst[i].pst_pid, pst[i].pst_ucomm); When I attempted to print the string, I hit a memory fault. I know that I must be doing something foolish since my C/C++ skills are not that great, but I cannot figure out what the issue is since the code is largely copied from the hp website. So here's the question(s) for clarity: 1. Why can't printf("%s", pst[i].pst_ucomm); handle strings? 2. Why can't I iterate over the processes in the system? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Weird RecordStore behavior when RecordStoreFullException occurs

    Hello everyone! I'm developing a small J2ME application that displays bus stops timetables - they are stored as records in MIDP RecordStores. Sometimes records can not fit a single RecordStore, especially on record update - using setRecord method - a RecordStoreFullException occurs. I catch the exception, and try to write the record to a new RecordStore along with deleting the previous one in the old RecordStore. Everything works fine except of deleting record from RecordStore where the RecordStoreFullException occurs. If I make an attempt to delete record that could not be updated, another Exception of type InvalidRecordIDException is thrown. This is weird and undocumented in MIDP javadoc. I have tested it on Sun WTK 2.5.2, MicroEdition SDK 3.0 and Nokia Series 40 SDK. System.out.println will produce NextID: 0! It is not acceptable because record ID can not be 0! Could someone explain this strange behavior? Sorry for my bad English.

    The behavior I'm observing with the Mongoid adapter is that it'll save 'time' fields with the current system timezone into the database. Note that it's the system time and not Rail's environment's Time.zone. If I change the system timezone, then subsequent saves will pick up the current system timezone. # system currently at UTC -7 @record.time_attribute = Time.now.utc @record.save # in mongo, the value is "time_attribute" : "Mon May 17 2010 12:00:00 GMT-0700 (QYZST)" @record.reload.time_attribute.utc? # false

  • Math.max and Math.min outputting highest and lowest values allowed

    so I'm trying to make a program that will output the sum, average, and smallest and largest values. I have everything basically figured out except the smallest and largest values are outputting 2147483647 and -2147483647, which I believe are the absolute smallest and largest values that Java will compute. Anyway, I want to compute the numbers that a user enters, so this obviously isn't correct. Here is my class. For instance, a record should be deleted in both test methods testA() and testB(), that means precondition of both test methods need an existing record to be deleted. Then my strategy is inserting the record in setUp() method to recover data. What’s your better solution? Or your practical idea in such case? Thanks

And this works just fine in the simulator. I can play back a file and record at the same time. But it doesn't work on the iphone itself. If I comment out either function, the other performs fine. The playback plays fine either alone or with both, if it's first. If I comment out the playback, the record records fine. (There's additional code to stop the recording not shown here.) So each works fine, but not together. I know audioQueue has a setting to allow both, but I don't see an analogue for AVAudioSessions. Any idea if it's possible, and if so, what I need to add?
