  From what I understand, SWIG is to wrap C++/C to make it appear in Java, and javah is to implement certain java functions in C++ ( aka native functions ). Is there a tool which can create a C++ wrapper over a java class, so that the caller. of this c++ wrapper doesn't have to worry about java, for example Input Java is class hw { public void hi() { System.out.println("Hello World"); } } Tools outputs hw.hh ( and some. c++ files ), which can be used as: hw *h = new hw(/*JEnv */ env); h-hi(); Is there a tool available which can do this ?

• implementing keepalives with Java

  Hi All, I am biulding a client-server application where I have to implement a keepalive mechanism in order to detect that the client has crashed or not. I have separate threads on both client and server side. the client thread sends a "ping" then sleeps for 3 seconds, while the server reads the BufferedInput Stream and checks whether ping is received, if so it makes the ping counter eqauls zero, else it increments the counter by +1, the server thread then sleeps for 3 seconds, if the ping counter reaches 3, it daclares the client as dead. The problem is that when the server reads the input stream, its a blocking call, and it blocks untill the next ping is received, irrespective of how delayed it is, so the server never detects a missed ping. any suggestions, so that I can read the current value of the stream and it doesn't block if there is nothing on the incoming stream. • How can I disable Java garbage collector ?

  Hi, we have a PHP webapp that calls a java binary to produce a pdf report (with jasperreport), the java binary outpus pdf to standart output and exits, the php then send the pdf to browser. This java command lasts about 3 to 6 seconds, I think when it lasts 6 second it's because the GC kicks in, so I would like to disable it because anyway when the command exits all memory is returned.. I would like to know how to disable it for Java 1.4.2 and for Java 1.6.0 because we are currently testing both JVM to see which performs faster.. Thanks

• java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError when the file is there

  I've tried to look around for postings that might help me, cant find any. I am deploying an ear to JBoss4 server, and I started having this problem since I added a new project. this new project is defined as Java project in eclipse, and the EAR project has an EJB project that has the new Java project as one of the projects as its dependent upon - if deployed on JBoss locally through eclipse, there's no problem and everything goes smoothly But when being deployed to JBoss in test environment (outside eclipse), kept getting java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError on one of the classes that are defined in the new Java project. I looked inside the EAR file to get to the jar (EJB project), and then inside the jar, I can see the directory structure and all the class files from the new Java project - ie. The class that it complains about is right there inside the EAR-JAR and matching the exact structure that it's looking for. I am at lost to what else I can look at. Any pointers are greatly appreciated! Thanks

• Java import from other directory

  Hi People! I am building a Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) with Java. I won't get into details But I have to build multiple servers who make use of the same classes. I have the following directory structure: /server1 -Main.java /server2 -Main.java /com -Database.java I want to import from the Main.java class for example the Database.class. But of course the following statements won't work: import com.Database; I am working with the javac compiler in the command line (so not eclipse stuff or whatever. just TextMate and the command line). And I found a (pretty stupid) solution by creating a symbolic link in the servers to the com directory. But that is not really an ideal solution. Does anybody have a better one?? THANXS in advanced!! :D

• Any good class diagram editors out there for Java (not UML)

  I'm looking for an editor that can create class diagrams, similar to the typical UML class diagram, but specifically for java (so using java terminology; instead of terms like "generalization, realization etc", we use the java equivalents "interface, abstract class, extends etc"). I've looked into UML several times, but each time I've been turned off by the shear amount of "stuff" that comes with UML. I just want to be able to model my java classes quickly and intuitively, without getting bogged down by all the cruft that comes with UML. Preferably, it would come with a source reader that can keep the diagram up to date, and with a few nice features like "show only public methods in this class" etc. As well, it would automatically "know" about the classes in the standard java library, and possibly even be able to read classes from jars. Performance is also a big thing for me, I don't like having to wait 2 seconds for a popup menu to appear, or watch the diagram jerk crazily while resizing an element in the model. What do you think, am I asking too much?

• Maven + Java package declaration

  We have a Maven project (packaged as JAR) with Java files. A new Java source file was recently added to this project. The path in which the Java file was added, does not match its package declaration. As expected, Eclipse shows an error in the class for the mismatch. However, Maven builds the project just fine. In the generated JAR file, the .class file is present in the path indicated by the package declaration. We tried moving the Java source file to other incorrect folders (i.e. different from the package declaration), but every time Maven builds the project fine. So, does Maven ignore the actual directory in which the .java file is present? Does it only consider package declaration?

  I am coming back to an old Google App Engine project on which I saw a bug. During this lag, I have been upgrading my AppEngine SDK and is now set at 1.3. When I try to run the same project again, I see the following exception: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.google.apphosting.api.ApiProxy$Environment.getDefaultNamespace()Ljava/lang/String; at com.google.appengine.api.NamespaceManager.get(NamespaceManager.java:56) at com.google.appengine.api.memcache.MemcacheServiceImpl.setNamespace(MemcacheServiceImpl.java:181) at com.google.appengine.api.memcache.MemcacheServiceImpl.(MemcacheServiceImpl.java:145) at com.google.appengine.api.memcache.MemcacheServiceFactory.getMemcacheService(MemcacheServiceFactory.java:25) The line causing the problem is: CacheManager.getInstance().getCacheFactory().createCache(Collections.emptyMap()); (It is the same line as suggested by the AppEngine documentation to create a memcache object. It used to work fine previously. ) Any suggestions on how to fix it?

• Getting JAX-WS client work on Weblogic 9.2 with ant

  I've recently had lots of issues trying to deploy a JAX-WS web servcie client on Weblogic 9.2. It turns out there is no straightforward guide on how to achieve this, so I decided to put together this short wiki entry hoping it might be useful for others. Firstly, Weblogic 9.2 does not support web servcies using JAX-WS in general. It comes with old versions of XML-related java libraries that are incompatible with the latest JAX-WS (similar issues occur with Axis2, only Axis1 seems to be working flawlessly with Weblogic 9.x but that's a very old and unsupported library). So, in order to get it working, some hacking is required. This is how I did it (note that we're using ant in our legacy corporate project, you probably should be using maven which should eliminate 50% of those steps below): Download the most recent JAX-WS distribution from https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/ (The exact version I got was JAXWS2.2-20091203.zip) Place the JAX-WS jars with the dependencies in a separate folder like lib/webservices. Create a patternset in ant to reference those jars: Include the patternset in your WAR-related goal. This could look something like: (not the flatten="true" parameter - it's important as Weblogic 9.x is by default not smart enough to access jars located in a different lcoation than WEB-INF/lib inside your WAR file) In case of clashes, Weblogic uses its own jars by default. We want it to use the JAX-WS jars from our application instead. This is achieved by preparing a weblogic-application.xml file and placing it in META-INF folder of the deplotyed EAR file. It should look like this: javax.jws. javax.xml.bind. javax.xml.crypto. javax.xml.registry. javax.xml.rpc. javax.xml.soap. javax.xml.stream. javax.xml.ws. com.sun.xml.api.streaming.* Remember to place that weblogic-application.xml file in your EAR! The ant goal for that may look similar to: <jar destfile="${warfile}" basedir="${wardir}"/> <ear destfile="${earfile}" appxml="resources/${app.name}/application.xml"> <fileset dir="${dist}" includes="${app.name}.war"/> <metainf dir="resources/META-INF"/> </ear> Also you need to tell weblogic to prefer your WEB-INF classes to those in distribution. You do that by placing the following lines in your WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file: true And that's it for the weblogic-related configuration. Now only set up your JAX-WS goal. The one below is going to simply generate the web service stubs and classes based on a locally deployed WSDL file and place them in a folder in your app: Remember about the keep="true" parameter. Without it, wsimport generates the classes and... deletes them, believe it or not! For mocking a web service I suggest using SOAPUI, an open source project. Very easy to deploy, crucial for web servcies intergation testing. We're almost there. The final thing is to write a Java class for testing the web service, try to run it as a standalone app first (or as part of your unit tests) And then try to run the same code from withing Weblogic. It should work. It worked for me. After some 3 days of frustration. And yes, I know I should've put 9 and 10 under a single bullet-point, but the title "10 steps to deploy a JAX-WS web service under Web logic 9.2 using ant" sounds just so much better. • Cannot access updated Java object from Saxon XSLT processor

  I am working with an open source version of the Saxon XSLT processor "Saxon 9.0.0.2J from Saxonica" and am trying to make use of the java extensibility for the first time. I am running into an issue I suspect may be a limitation on the open source version, but wanted to check first whether there might be something I am just missing here. From the snippet below, my result is that the final value of $c1 does not change as a result of the call to greg:setTime() - i.e. the $c1 variable within Saxon appears to be unhooked from the underlying Java object and there is no apparent way to access the object as updated by the setTime() call. NOTE that all code in the snippet is tested and working otherwise - i.e. $c1 is properly instantiated by the getInstance() call, $startdate is of the proper format and $d1 is properly instantiated. • Java: What are the various available security settings for applets

  I have an applet that throws this exception when trying to communicate with the server (running on localhost). This problem is limited to Applets only - a POJO client is able to communicate with the exact same server without any problem. Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-1" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net .SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:9999 connect,resolve) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(AccessControlContext.java:323) My applet.policy file's contents is: grant { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; My question is what are the other places where I need to modify my security settings to grant an Applet more security settings? Thank you. EDIT: Further investigation has lead me to find that this problem only occurs on some machines - but not others. So it could be a machine level (global) setting that is causing this, rather than a application-specific setting such as the one in the applet.policy file. EDIT: Another SO question: Socket connection to originating server of an unsigned Java applet This seems to describe the exact same problem, and Tom Hawtin - tackline 's answer provides the reason why (a security patch released that disallows applets from connecting to localhost). Bearing this in mind, how do I grant the applet the security settings such that in can indeed run on my machine. Also why does it run as-is on other machines but not mine?

  I’m working on the UVa Online Judge problem set archive as a way to practice Java, and as a way to practice data structures and algorithms in general. They give an example input file to submit to the online judge to use as a starting point (it’s the solution to problem 100). Input from the standard input stream (java.lang.System.in) is required as part of any solution on this site, but I can’t understand the implementation of reading from System.in they give in their example solution. It’s true that the input file could consist of any variation of integers, strings, etc, but every solution program requires reading basic lines of text input from System.in, one line at a time. It looks like something pulled directly from K&R’s “C Programming Language” (a great book regardless), minus the access level modifer and exception handling, etc. Even though I understand the implementation, it just seems like it was written by a C programmer and bypasses most of Java’s object oriented nature. Isn’t there a better way to do this, using the StringTokenizer class or maybe using the split method of String or the java.util.regex package instead?

• Upload image from J2ME client to a Servlet

  I want to send an image from a J2ME client to a Servlet. Their values are 0A and 0D hex. Exactly, the Carriage Return and Line Feed. Thus, either POST method or readLine() are not able to accept 0A and 0D values. Any one have any idea how to do this, or how to use any another method?

• Switching from Java to .NET from a career change point of view

  Could anyone share with me their experience with switching from Java to .NET from a career point of view? I've been a Java developer for 12 years and am just getting tired of how fragmented the Java world has become. For my liking, there's just too many frameworks, tools, application servers, etc.. And it seems each new tool just adds complexity and time to even the simplest of projects. I'm not trying to start any wars - I'm just giving you the reason I ask the main question. I've read a few books on .NET and have done one WebForms job. I love the integrated environment and would like to hear how others transitioned from Java to .NET. What I mean by that is did you do it somehow as a contractor or did you join a company as a beginner .NET developer with much Java experience? Personally, I'm ready to take the leap if I can figure out how to not lose too much income in the process (Senior Java developer to beginner .NET developer). I would really appreciate hearing your stories.

• java serialization problems with different JVMs

  I am having trouble using serialization in Java. I've searched the web for a solution but haven't found an answer yet. The problem is this - I have a Java library (I have the code and I export it to an archive prior to executing the code) which I need to use with two differents JVMs. One JVM is on the server (Ubuntu, running Java(TM) JRE SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)) and the other on Android 2.3.3. I compiled the library in Java 1.6. Now, I am trying to import to the client, an object exported from the server, but I receive this error: java.io.InvalidClassException: [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;; Incompatible class (SUID): [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =-359311387972759020L; but expected [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =1920571045915494592L; I do have an explicit serial version UID declared on the class MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd, like this: protected class NeuralEnd extends NeuralConnection { private static final long serialVersionUID = 7305185603191183338L; } Where NeuralConnection implements the java.io.Serializable interface. If I do a serialver on MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd I receive the serialVersionUID which I declared. So, why have both JVMs changed this value? Can you help me? Thanks, Alberto

  Hello .. I am new to java and also cygwin . I do not have in detailed knowledge of both . I need some help.. I simple steps i will try to explain my problem. 1) I am working on tinyOS . its open source OS , used for wireless sensor networks. It provides java libraries to work on communication (PC to sensor) 2) I am working on windows xp environment through cigwin. 3) I am developing an application . THis application requires one java interface called "Serial Forwarder" , which is readily available in libraries provided. Previously i used to start this interface manually (by entering command *"java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder ")*and then my application which uses this interface. But now i want to make my application independent . User need know about this background cygwin commands . 4) So in my java application i used "Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder)" . 5) This i neither giving any error nor starting the interface. Am I going on right way ? When i am using runtime execute command , how can i make sure that this command is called through cigwin interface ? Also .. if i want to write .bat file .. i which i can give commands which will be executed .. how can i make sure that those commands are given through cigwin .. and not through cmd.exe .. Please help . me .
