  • If statement within If statement's else

    - by maebe
    Still new to Java/android so trying to figure out the best way to code a multilevel if statement. What I'm trying to do is for a combat system that needs to check if player/npc is alive. If they are alive it then will check to see if they scored a critical hit. If they didn't critical hit then will see if they hit or missed. combat = mydbhelper.getCombat(); startManagingCursor(combat); if(playerCurHp == 0){ combat.moveToPosition(11); npcCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} else{ if(playerCritFlag.equals("Critical")){ combat.moveToPosition(2); playerCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} else{ if(playerHitFlag.equals("Hit")){ combat.moveToPosition(1); playerCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} if(playerHitFlag.equals("Miss")){ combat.moveToPosition(3); playerCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} }} if (npcCurHp == 0){ combat.moveToPosition(10); npcCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} else{ if(npcCritFlag.equals("Critical")){ combat.moveToPosition(5); npcCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} else{ if(npcHitFlag.equals("Hit")){ combat.moveToPosition(4); npcCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} if(npcHitFlag.equals("Miss")){ combat.moveToPosition(6); npcCombatStory = combat.getString(combat.getColumnIndex(dbhelper.KEY_COMBATDESC));} }} } Is what I'm using. Was working when I had the if statements all separate. But it would check each one and do actions I don't need (If they hit, pull String, if crit pull another, then if dead pull again). Trying to make it stop when it finds the "Flag" that matches. When doing my rolls if the player hits it sets the flag to "Hit" like below code. Random attackRandom = new Random(); int attackRoll = attackRandom.nextInt(100); totalAtt = attackRoll + bonusAttack + weaponAtt + stanceAtt; Random defensiveRandom = new Random(); int defenseRoll = defensiveRandom.nextInt(100); npcDef = defenseRoll + npcDodge + npcBonusDodge; if (totalAtt > npcDef){ playerHitFlag = "Hit"; playerDamage();} else{playerHitFlag = "Miss"; npcAttack();} At the end it takes these playerCombatStory and npcCombatStory strings and uses them to setText to show the player what happened on that turn of combat.

  • F# - Facebook Hacker Cup - Double Squares

    - by Jacob
    I'm working on strengthening my F#-fu and decided to tackle the Facebook Hacker Cup Double Squares problem. I'm having some problems with the run-time and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why it is so much slower than my C# equivalent. There's a good description from another post; Source: Facebook Hacker Cup Qualification Round 2011 A double-square number is an integer X which can be expressed as the sum of two perfect squares. For example, 10 is a double-square because 10 = 3^2 + 1^2. Given X, how can we determine the number of ways in which it can be written as the sum of two squares? For example, 10 can only be written as 3^2 + 1^2 (we don't count 1^2 + 3^2 as being different). On the other hand, 25 can be written as 5^2 + 0^2 or as 4^2 + 3^2. You need to solve this problem for 0 = X = 2,147,483,647. Examples: 10 = 1 25 = 2 3 = 0 0 = 1 1 = 1 My basic strategy (which I'm open to critique on) is to; Create a dictionary (for memoize) of the input numbers initialzed to 0 Get the largest number (LN) and pass it to count/memo function Get the LN square root as int Calculate squares for all numbers 0 to LN and store in dict Sum squares for non repeat combinations of numbers from 0 to LN If sum is in memo dict, add 1 to memo Finally, output the counts of the original numbers. Here is the F# code (See code changes at bottom) I've written that I believe corresponds to this strategy (Runtime: ~8:10); open System open System.Collections.Generic open System.IO /// Get a sequence of values let rec range min max = seq { for num in [min .. max] do yield num } /// Get a sequence starting from 0 and going to max let rec zeroRange max = range 0 max /// Find the maximum number in a list with a starting accumulator (acc) let rec maxNum acc = function | [] -> acc | p::tail when p > acc -> maxNum p tail | p::tail -> maxNum acc tail /// A helper for finding max that sets the accumulator to 0 let rec findMax nums = maxNum 0 nums /// Build a collection of combinations; ie [1,2,3] = (1,1), (1,2), (1,3), (2,2), (2,3), (3,3) let rec combos range = seq { let count = ref 0 for inner in range do for outer in Seq.skip !count range do yield (inner, outer) count := !count + 1 } let rec squares nums = let dict = new Dictionary<int, int>() for s in nums do dict.[s] <- (s * s) dict /// Counts the number of possible double squares for a given number and keeps track of other counts that are provided in the memo dict. let rec countDoubleSquares (num: int) (memo: Dictionary<int, int>) = // The highest relevent square is the square root because it squared plus 0 squared is the top most possibility let maxSquare = System.Math.Sqrt((float)num) // Our relevant squares are 0 to the highest possible square; note the cast to int which shouldn't hurt. let relSquares = range 0 ((int)maxSquare) // calculate the squares up front; let calcSquares = squares relSquares // Build up our square combinations; ie [1,2,3] = (1,1), (1,2), (1,3), (2,2), (2,3), (3,3) for (sq1, sq2) in combos relSquares do let v = calcSquares.[sq1] + calcSquares.[sq2] // Memoize our relevant results if memo.ContainsKey(v) then memo.[v] <- memo.[v] + 1 // return our count for the num passed in memo.[num] // Read our numbers from file. //let lines = File.ReadAllLines("test2.txt") //let nums = [ for line in Seq.skip 1 lines -> Int32.Parse(line) ] // Optionally, read them from straight array let nums = [1740798996; 1257431873; 2147483643; 602519112; 858320077; 1048039120; 415485223; 874566596; 1022907856; 65; 421330820; 1041493518; 5; 1328649093; 1941554117; 4225; 2082925; 0; 1; 3] // Initialize our memoize dictionary let memo = new Dictionary<int, int>() for num in nums do memo.[num] <- 0 // Get the largest number in our set, all other numbers will be memoized along the way let maxN = findMax nums // Do the memoize let maxCount = countDoubleSquares maxN memo // Output our results. for num in nums do printfn "%i" memo.[num] // Have a little pause for when we debug let line = Console.Read() And here is my version in C# (Runtime: ~1:40: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Diagnostics; using System.IO; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace FBHack_DoubleSquares { public class TestInput { public int NumCases { get; set; } public List<int> Nums { get; set; } public TestInput() { Nums = new List<int>(); } public int MaxNum() { return Nums.Max(); } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { // Read input from file. //TestInput input = ReadTestInput("live.txt"); // As example, load straight. UPDATE Changing the combos function slightly will result in a pretty big performance boost (from 8 min to 3:45): /// Old and Busted... let rec combosOld range = seq { let rangeCache = Seq.cache range let count = ref 0 for inner in rangeCache do for outer in Seq.skip !count rangeCache do yield (inner, outer) count := !count + 1 } /// The New Hotness... let rec combos maxNum = seq { for i in 0..maxNum do for j in i..maxNum do yield i,j }

  • Genetic/Evolutionary algorithms and local minima/maxima problem

    - by el.gringogrande
    I have run across several posts and articles that suggests using things like simulated annealing to avoid the local minima/maxima problem. I don't understand why this would be necessary if you started out with a sufficiently large random population. Is it just another check to insure that the initial population was, in fact, sufficiently large and random? Or are those techniques just an alternative to producing a "good" initial population?

  • Maintaing list order in binary tree.

    - by TheBigO
    Given a sequence of numbers, I want to insert the numbers into a balanced binary tree such that when I do a preorder traversal on the tree, it gives me the sequence back. How can I construct the insert method corresponding to this requirement? Remember that the tree must be balanced, so there isn't a completely trivial solution. I was trying to do this with a modified version of an AVL tree, but I'm not sure if this can work out.

  • JavaScript returns Access Denied

    - by heeboir
    Hello, I'm running into a scenario where at random times I am getting "Access Denied" when executing javascript. It is not repeatable and occurs in random places of my application. There is not indication of what is causing it in the logs and I'm really at a loss on this. It seems to be UI problem only. However, there is no reason it should appear as I do not have any such permission checking to could be getting triggered. Thanks in advance

  • Probelm with String.split() in java

    - by Matt
    What I am trying to do is read a .java file, and pick out all of the identifiers and store them in a list. My problem is with the .split() method. If you run this code the way it is, you will get ArrayOutOfBounds, but if you change the delimiter from "." to anything else, the code works. • Converting HTML TAG Object to JSON Object

    - by cooldude
    Hi, I want to convert the html tag objects to json object in the javascript in order to send them to the server from the javascript. As i have to save these objects at the Ruby on Rails server. These HTML objects is the canvas tag object and the graphics objects created using CAKE API. I have used the stringify function but it is not working. Here is my code: var CAKECanvas = new Canvas(document.body, 1000,1000); var canvas=CAKECanvas.canvas; var text=document.createElement('textarea'); text.id="text"; text.rows="100"; text.cols="200"; document.body.appendChild(text); canvas.style.borderStyle="solid"; canvas.style.borderColor="black"; var rect= new Circle(); rect.radius=100; rect.centered=true; rect.cx=Math.random() * 500; rect.cy= Math.random() * 300; rect.stroke= false; rect.fill= "red"; rect.xDir = Math.random() > 0.5?1:-1; rect.yDir = Math.random() > 0.5?1:-1; var obj=new Object; var count = 0,k; for (k in rect) { if (rect.hasOwnProperty(k)) { count++; obj[k]=rect[k]; } } alert(count); rect.addFrameListener(function(t, dt) { this.cx += this.xDir * 50 * dt/1000; this.cy += this.yDir * 50 * dt/1000; if (this.cx > 550) { this.xDir = -1; } if (this.cx < 50) { this.xDir = 1; } if (this.cy > 350) { this.yDir = -1; } if (this.cy < 50) { this.yDir = 1; } } ); CAKECanvas.append(rect); var carAsJSON = JSON.stringify(obj); /////////////////ERROR

  • Suggestions for library to hash passwords in JAVA

    - by DutrowLLC
    What JAVA library should I be using to Hash passwords for storage in a database? I was hoping to just take the plain text password, add a random salt, then store the salt and the hashed password in the database. Then when a user wanted to log in, I could just take their submitted password, add the random salt from their account information, hash it and see if it equates to the stored hash password with their account information.

  • Will this ever result in a stack overflow error?

    Will incrementing the instance variables of an object ever lead to a stack overflow error? For example: This method (java) will cause a stack overflow error: class StackOverflow { public static void StackOverflow (int x) { System.out.println (x) ; StackOverflow(x+1) ; } public static void main (String[]arg) { StackOverflow (0) ; } but will this?: (..... is a gap that i've put in to shorten the code. its long enough as it is.) import java.util.*; class Dice { String name ; int x ; int[] sum ; .... public Dice (String name) { this.name = name ; this.x = 0 ; this.sum = new int[7] ; } .... public static void main (String[] arg) { Dice a1 = new Dice ("a1") ; for (int i = 0; i<6000000; i++) { a1.roll () ; printDice(a1) ; } } .... public void roll () { this.x = randNum(1, this.sum.length) ; this.sum[x] ++ ; } public static int randNum (int a, int b) { Random random = new Random() ; int c = (b-a) ; int randomNumber = ((random.nextInt(c)) + a) ; return randomNumber ; } public static void printDice (Dice Dice) { System.out.println (Dice.name) ; System.out.println ("value: "+Dice.x) ; printValues (Dice) ; } public static void printValues (Dice Dice) { for (int i = 0; i<Dice.sum.length; i++) System.out.println ("#of "+i+"'s: "+Dice.sum[i]) ; } } The above doesn't currently cause a stack overflow error but could i get it too if i changed this line in main: for (int i = 0; i<6000000; i++) so that instead of 6 million something sufficiently high were there?

  • How to get Firefox to not continue to show "Transferring data from..." in browser status bar after a

    - by Edward Tanguay
    The following silverlight demo loads and displays a text file from a server. However, in Firefox (but not Explorer or Chrome) after you click the button and the text displays, the status bar continues to show "Transferring data from test.development..." which erroneously gives the user the belief that something is still loading. I've noticed that if you click on another Firefox tab and then back on the original one, the message goes away, so it seems to be just a Firefox bug that doesn't clear the status bar automatically. Is there a way to clear the status bar automatically in Firefox? or a way to explicitly tell it that the async loading is finished so it can clear the status bar itself? • UDP Tracker not responding

    - by kelton52
    Alright, so I'm trying to connect to UDP trackers using c#, but I never get a response. I also don't get any errors. Here's my code. namespace UDPTester { class MainClass { public static bool messageReceived = false; public static Random Random = new Random(); public static void LOG(string format, params object[] args) { Console.WriteLine (format,args); } public static void Main (string[] args) { LOG ("Creating Packet..."); byte[] packet; using(var stream = new MemoryStream()) { var bc = new MiscUtil.Conversion.BigEndianBitConverter(); using(var br = new MiscUtil.IO.EndianBinaryWriter(bc,stream)) { LOG ("Magic Num: {0}",(Int64)0x41727101980); br.Write (0x41727101980); br.Write((Int32)0); br.Write ((Int32)Random.Next()); packet = stream.ToArray(); LOG ("Packet Size: {0}",packet.Length); } } LOG ("Connecting to tracker..."); var client = new System.Net.Sockets.UdpClient("tracker.openbittorrent.com",80); UdpState s = new UdpState(); s.e = client.Client.RemoteEndPoint; s.u = client; StartReceiving(s); LOG ("Sending Packet..."); client.Send(packet,packet.Length); while(!messageReceived) { Thread.Sleep(1000); } LOG ("Ended"); } public static void StartReceiving(UdpState state) { state.u.BeginReceive(ReceiveCallback,state); } public static void ReceiveCallback(IAsyncResult ar) { UdpClient u = (UdpClient)((UdpState)(ar.AsyncState)).u; IPEndPoint e = (IPEndPoint)((UdpState)(ar.AsyncState)).e; Byte[] receiveBytes = u.EndReceive(ar, ref e); string receiveString = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(receiveBytes); LOG("Received: {0}", receiveString); messageReceived = true; StartReceiving((UdpState)ar.AsyncState); } } public class UdpState { public UdpClient u; public EndPoint e; } } I was using a normal BinaryWriter, but that didn't work, and I read somewhere that it wants it's data in BigEndian. This doesn't work for any of the UDP trackers I've found, any ideas why I'm not getting a response? Did they maybe change the protocol and not tell anyone? HTTP trackers all work fine. Trackers I've tried udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80 udp://tracker.ccc.de:80 udp://tracker.istole.it:80 Also, I'm not interested in using MonoTorrent(and when I was using it, the UDP didn't work anyways). I have a class which contains sensitive information (Credit card info, phone numbers etc). I want to be able to pass this class to log4j, but have it obscure certain information. If I have a class UserInformation which has getPhoneNumber, getCreditCardNumber methods, how would I customise log4j or this class so that it will obscure the numbers correctly. I want the credit card number to be output as xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-1234 and the phone number to be output as xxxx-xxx-xxx given that these would be 1234-1234-1234-1234 and 1234-567-890 Thanks

  • Elements added with appendTo() not immediately available

    - by Zip Gun Jim
    I'm having a problem with elements added with appendTo() not being immediately available in the DOM. First, I'm reading some data from a JSON file and then appending some html to a div. jsonUrl = "js/performers.json"; $.getJSON(jsonUrl, function(json) { $.each(json.performers, function(i, performer) { var html = '<div class="performer_mini">'; html += '<img src="' + performer.thumbnail + '" alt="' + performer.name + '" /><br />'; html += performer.name + '<br /></div>'; $(html).appendTo("div#performer_spotlight"); }); }); Then I'm calling a random shuffler plugin to show one of the added divs at a time. $("#performer_spotlight").randomShuffler(".performer_mini", 3000, 3000, 9000); The random shuffler does the following: (function($) { $.fn.randomShuffler = function(shuffledElements, fadeInTime, fadeOutTime, timeout) { fadeInTime = fadeInTime || 3000; fadeOutTime = fadeOutTime || 3000; timeout = timeout || 9000; $(shuffledElements).hide(); var $old_element; var $new_element; var old_index = 0; var new_index = 0; function shuffleElement() { $old_element = $new_element; old_index = new_index; while ($(shuffledElements).length > 0 && old_index == new_index) { // don't display the same element twice in a row new_index = Math.floor(Math.random()*$(shuffledElements).length); } $new_element = $(shuffledElements + ":eq(" + new_index + ")"); if ($old_element != undefined) { $old_element.fadeOut(fadeOutTime, function() { $new_element.fadeIn(fadeInTime); }); } else { $new_element.fadeIn(fadeInTime); } setTimeout(shuffleElement, timeout); } $(this).show(); shuffleElement(); } })(jQuery); The first time the shuffleElement() function is called $(shuffledElements).length equals 0, so no element is displayed. On the next call to shuffleElement(), the elements added with appendTo() are available and one is selected at random as expected. Everything works correctly after that. Is there some way to refresh the DOM or make these elements available to jQuery immediately after I add them with appendTo()? Any other suggestions for how to accomplish this?

  • which of these modes : cbc,cfb,ctr,ecb,ncfb,nofb,ofb,stream are secure and which are absolute no-no

    - by user393087
    By security I mean that encoded string is indistinguishable from random noise and is different on every encryption of the same text so it is impossible to make a guess on encryption algorithm used or do any dictionary attack on the encoded text. Second: output string length does not correspond to the input string length in easy way, so it is not possible of make guessing on that account. Third: it is possible to verify that the provided password is incorrect so the decoding function could return false instead of supposedly decoded random string.
