• PHP Session code work differently on two servers

  I have some code which works fine on one server but is giving a session header warning: Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent on another. I have checked the php.ini settings on the two servers and they are identical. I know that the warning message is supposed to suggest that something has been outputted before the session_start but what I don't understand is why the same code works on one server but not the other. Is there anything else that could be explaining it other than the php.ini settings?

• The "correct" way to define an exception in Python without PyLint complaining

  I'm trying to define my own (very simple) exception class in Python 2.6, but no matter how I do it I get some warning. First, the simplest way: class MyException(Exception): pass This works, but prints out a warning at runtime: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6 OK, so that's not the way. I then tried: class MyException(Exception): def __init__(self, message): self.message = message This also works, but PyLint reports a warning: W0231: MyException.__init__: __init__ method from base class 'Exception' is not called. So I tried calling it: class MyException(Exception): def __init__(self, message): super(Exception, self).__init__(message) self.message = message This works, too! But now PyLint reports an error: E1003: MyException.__init__: Bad first argument 'Exception' given to super class How the hell do I do such a simple thing without any warnings?

• Using type hints in Clojure for Java return values

  I'm working on some Java / Clojure interoperability and came across a reflection warning for the following code: (defn load-image [resource-name] (javax.imageio.ImageIO/read (.getResource (class javax.imageio.ImageIO) resource-name))) => Reflection warning, clojure/repl.clj:37 - reference to field read can't be resolved. I'm surprised at this because getResource always returns a URL and I would therefore expect the compiler to use the appropriate static method in javax.imageio.ImageIO/read. The code works fine BTW so it is clearly finding the right method at run time. So two questions: Why is this returning a reflection warning? What type hint do I need to fix this?

  I have a function call in a program that I'm maintaining has 28 arguments for a printf call. It's printing a lot of data in a CSV file. I have problems following finding where what goes and I have some mismatches in the parameters types. I enabled -Wall in gcc and I get warnings like: n.c:495: warning: int format, pointer arg (arg 15) n.c:495: warning: format argument is not a pointer (arg 16) n.c:495: warning: double format, pointer arg (arg 23) The function is like this: fprintf (ConvFilePtr, "\"FORMAT3\"%s%04d%s%04d%s%s%s%d%s%c%s%d%c%s%s%s%s%s%s%s%11.lf%s%11.lf%s%11.lf%s%d\n", some_28_arguments_go_here); I would like to know if there is a vim plugin that highlights the printf format specifier when i go with the cursor over a variable. • Why do I get CA1811 when I call a private method from a public method in C++/CLI?

  I've recently upgraded my project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. By enabling Code Analysis and building on Release, I'm getting warning CA1811: Avoid uncalled private code. I've managed to reduce the code to this: .h file: public ref class Foo { public: virtual System::String^ ToString() override; private: static System::String^ Bar(); }; .cpp file: String^ Foo::ToString() { return Bar(); } String^ Foo::Bar() { return "abc"; } The warning I get: CA1811 : Microsoft.Performance : 'Foo::Bar(void)' appears to have no upstream public or protected callers. It doesn't matter if Bar() is static or not. I've tried to reproduce it in C# but I can't. I can only reproduce it in C++/CLI. Why do I get this warning? Is this a Visual Studio 2010 bug?

It seems that the R warning message raises a python error. # enable use of python objects in rpy2 import rpy2.robjects.numpy2ri import numpy as np from rpy2.robjects import r # create an example array a = np.array([[5,2,5],[3,7,8]]) # this line leads to a warning message, which in turn raises an # error message if run within a script. result = r['chisq.test'](a) Running that code example in ipython works, however, running it inside a script raises the errorTypeError: 'module' object is unsubscriptable. • Core Data produces Analyzer warnings

  Hi I am doing the final touch ups on an app and I am getting rid of every compiler/analyzer warning. I have a bunch of Class methods that wrap my apps access to Core Data entities. This is "provoking" the analyzer. + (CDProductEntity*) newProductEntity { return (CDProductEntity*)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"CDProductEntity" inManagedObjectContext:[self context]]; } Which results in an Analyzer warning: Object with +0 retain counts returned to caller where a +1 (owning) retain count is expected In the method that calls the above Class Method I have this: CDProductEntity *newEntity = [self newProductEntity]; Which results in an Analyzer warning: Method returns an Objective-C object with a +1 retain count (owning reference) Explicitly releasing or autoreleasing a Core Data entity is usually very very bad, but is that what it is asking me to do here? First it tells me it has a +0 retain count and that is bad, then it tells me it has a +1 which is also bad. What can I do to ensure that I am either dealing with a Analyzer hiccup or that I release correctly? Thanks in advance

• Compile a binary file for linking OSX

  I'm trying to compile a binary file into a MACH_O object file so that it can be linked it into a dylib. The dylib is written in c/c++. On linux the following command is used: ld -r -b binary -o foo.o foo.bin I have tried various option on OSX but to no avail: ld -r foo.bin -o foo.o gives: ld: warning: -arch not specified ld: warning: ignoring file foo.bin, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) An empty .o file is created ld -arch x86_64 -r foo.bin -o foo.o ld: warning: ignoring file foo.bin, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) Again and empty .o file is created. Checking the files with nm gives: nm foo.o nm: no name list The binary file is actually, firmware that will be downloaded to an external device. Thanks for looking

  We have a set of C macros, here, for using the preprocessor to do bitfield operations, and we run into warnings when attempting to use these macros in visual studio. The problem can be demonstrated very easily: #define BITFIELD_WIDTHMASK(Width) \ ((Width) >= 32 ? ~0x0ul : (1ul << (Width)) - 1) unsigned long foo(void) { return BITFIELD_WIDTHMASK(32); } Compiling this with MSVC yields the warning: test.c(12) : warning C4293: '<<' : shift count negative or too big, undefined behavior This isn't a behavior problem - the << operator won't be used in this case, and that should be detected at compile time. But does anyone have any suggestions about how to rewrite the macro to avoid the warning? Or, failing that, how to redesign the macro interface for this? Thanks in advance

  I'm a newbie to web programming, so please bear with me. I am using JSF 1.2 and I want to conditionally set the color of the items in my drop down list. In other words, I have a collection of items that, along with a key and a value, also have a boolean property, warning, that is dynamically set by user action. I want the drop down to show all of the items, but those whose warning property is set to true should be displayed in red. I assume I have to extend the SelectItem class to add in the boolean property. How do I then conditionally set the color of the font of those items whose warning property is set to true in my JSP pages? Thanks in advance

• LED Monitor brightness

  I am in the market for a new monitor. I've been looking around and it seems that the general brightness for monitors is between 250-320 cd/m2. After hours of searching, I narrowed it down to the LG W2453V-PF vs. the LG E2350V-SN The W2453V-PF is not LED backlit yet it has a brightness level of 310 cd/m2 and a response time of 2ms. The E2350V-SN, on the other hand, has a brightness level of 250 cd/m2 and a response time of 5ms but it is LED backlit. My questions are, looking at these overall specs: Which monitor is better? What makes LED backlight better? Is the LED backlight worth the decreased brightness level? Thanks! p.s. if you have any other comparable monitor suggestions (that are not samsung - I read their customer service is absolutely terrible), feel free to share. thanks!

  Good afternoon everyone, I'm quite new to Active Directory stuff. After upgraded Functional level of our AD from 2003 to 2008 R2 (I need it to put fine-grained password policy), I then start to reorganized my OUs. I keep in mind that a good OU organization facilitate application of GPO (and maybe GPP).But in the end, it feels more natural for me to use Security-group filtering (from Scope tab) to apply my policies, instead of direct OU. Do you think it is a good practice or should I stick to OU ? We are a small organisation with 20 users and 30-35 computers. So, we got a simple OU tree, but more subtle split with security-groups. The OU tree doesn't contain any objects except at the bottom level. Each bottom level OU contains Computers,Users, and of course security groups.   We have a new domain structure we are planning on rolling out in the next few months. Essentially there is a single top level and forest domain controller "mydomain.lan" and two children "us.mydomain.lan" and "pl.mydomain.lan". We want to configure an administrator account or two at the top level domain that then has full administrator permissions on the sub domains. By default the top level administrator cannot access or login to machines on the sub-domains. Running W2K8R2. Ideas?

I frequently have this problem: I need to move all files recursively up one level. Let's say I have folder foo, and a folder bar inside it. Bar has a mess of files and folders, including dot files and folders. How do I move everything in bar to the foo level? If foo is empty, I simply move bar one level above, delete foo and rename bar into foo. Part of the problem is that I can't figure out what mv's wildcard for "everything including dots" is. A part of this question is this - is there an in-depth discussion of the wildcards that cp and mv commands use somewhere (googling this only brings very basic tutorials).

• Scrolling mouse sets windows sound volume

  Suddenly, when I use the scroll wheel of my mouse, it changes the windows sound volume level. I have a HP DV6-2030SD laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and a Zolid p50622 mouse. When I use the scroll function of the mouse pad of the laptop, it does not adjust the sound level. I don't have any special mouse drivers installed, just the standard windows drivers. When I scroll, I see the HP sound level screen: It doesn't do it always, but when it does, it prevents the current window to scroll, which is really annoying. Rebooting doesn't help. I've tried to put the USB dongle in a different port, but this doesn't help either. Any advise on how I can fix this?

• What happens if I run caspol.exe multiple times?

  Hi there! Caspol.exe is used to modify security policy for the machine policy level, the user policy level, and the enterprise policy level. What I use it for, is setting up av trust between the client and an area on some server. I went through the scripts on the server, and found an interesting script that sets up full trust via caspol between a client in one zone, and an application on the server. That script has been running every day, for every logon, since it was implemented. Can someone tell me the consequences? I guess there is about 500 trusts between the client computer and the server, all which points to the same thing.

  Given that I haven't found a way to define how a Raid10 is created with mdadm, i went the Raid1+0 solution. For the mirror I create a primary partition over the full HD and set partition type to FD. So, should I do the same for the Stripe? Create partition on /dev/md0 and /dev/md1 (primary over full 'HDD', set partition type correctly) and then do the stripe on the partition? Is there a correct way here or are there any advantages/disadvantages to a solution? Thank you
