• Get/save parameters to an expected JMock method call?

  Hi, I want to test an "Adapter" object that when it receives an xml message, it digest it to a Message object, puts message ID + CorrelationID both with timestamps and forwards it to a Client object.=20 A message can be correlated to a previous one (e.g. m2.correlationID =3D m1.ID). I mock the Client, and check that Adapter successfully calls "client.forwardMessage(m)" twice with first message with null correlationID, and a second with a not-null correlationID. However, I would like to precisely test that the correlationIDs are set correctly, by grabing the IDs (e.g. m1.ID). But I couldn't find anyway to do so. There is a jira about adding the feature, but no one commented and it is unassigned. Is this really unimplemented? I read about the alternative of redesigning the Adapter to use an IdGenerator object, which I can stub, but I think there will be too many objects.=20 Don't you think it adds unnecessary complexity to split objects to a so fine granularity?   This an extract from an c program that should demonstrate a bufferoverflow. void foo() { char arr[8]; printf(" enter bla bla bla"); gets(arr); printf(" you entered %s\n", arr); } The question was "How many input chars can a user maximal enter without a creating a buffer overflow" My initial answer was 8, because the char-array is 8 bytes long. Although I was pretty certain my answer was correct, I tried a higher amount of chars, and found that the limit of chars that I can enter, before I get a segmentation fault is 11. (Im running this on A VirtualBox Ubuntu) So my question is: Why is it possible to enter 11 chars into that 8 byte array?

• How should I handle expected errors? eg. "username already exists"

  I am struggling to understand how I should design the error handling parts of my code. I recently asked a similar question about how I should go about returning server error codes to the user, eg. 404 errors. I learnt that I should handle the error from within the current part of the application; seem's simple enough. However, what should I do when I can't handle the error from the current link in the chain? For example, I may have a class that is used to manage authentication. One of it's methods could be createUser($username, $password). Within that function, I need to determine if the username already exists. If this is true, how should I alert the calling code about this? Returning null instead of a user object is one way. But how do I then know what caused the error? How should I handle errors in such a way that calling code can easily find out what caused the error? Is there a design pattern commonly used for this kind of situation?

• Can I pass a non-generic type where a generic type is expected?

  I want to define a set of classes that collect and persist data. I want to call them either on-demand basis, or in a chain-of-responsibility fashion, as the caller pleases. To support the chaining, I have declared my interface like so: interface IDataManager<T, K> { T GetData(K args); void WriteData(Stream stream); void WriteData(T data, Stream stream); IDataCollectionPolicy Policy; IDataManager<T, K> NextDataManager; } But the T's and K's for each concrete types will be different. If I give it like this: IDataManager<T, K> NextDataManager; I assume that the calling code will only be able to chain types that have the same T's and K's. Is there a way I can have it chain any type of IDataManager? One thing that occurs to me is to have IDataManager inherit from a non-generic IDataManager like so: interface IDataManager { } interface IDataManager<T, K>: IDataManager { T GetData(K args); void WriteData(Stream stream); void WriteData(T data, Stream stream); IDataCollectionPolicy Policy; IDataManager NextDataManager; } Is this going to work?

• How to determine expected license serial number by viewing an EXE File?

  I was attempting to install an exe that requires a serial number before the install, which the vendor has not provided to us yet. This got my wheels turning about whether there is any information that can be gained from viewing an exe using a hex editor/VI/etc? Using VI to view an exe, I can see some sections of plain text, but it is difficult to determine what it refers to without any context around it. Is it possible to determine any information by reading an exe? Thanks

• jQuery .toggle() not working as expected with second function?!

  I'm trying to create a button to show / hide a div below it, all is working fine, I'm just struggling with the last bit! I need to distinguish wether it's a show or hide action so I can pass the variable elsewhere, here's what I have.. $(this).find('.hide-close').click( function() { $(this).siblings('.dragbox-content').toggle(function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Show'); },function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Hide'); } ); }) .end() }); If use the following code, taking out the second function within toggle(), it works?!   What Works This sed script works as intended: $ echo -e "2\n1\n4\n3" | sed -n 'h; n; G; p' 1 2 3 4 It takes pair of input lines at a time, and swaps the lines. So far, so good. What Doesn't Work What I don't understand is why I can't use sed's automatic printing. Since sed automatically prints the pattern space at the end of each execution cycle (except when it's suppressed), why is this not equivalent? $ echo -e "2\n1\n4\n3" | sed 'h; n; G' 2 1 2 4 3 4 What I think the code says is: The input line is copied to the hold space. The next line is read into the pattern space. The hold space is appended to the pattern space. The pattern space (line1 + newline + line2) is printed automatically because we've reached the end of the execution cycle. Obviously, I'm wrong...but I don't understand why. Can anyone explain why this second example breaks, and why print suppression is needed to yield the correct results?

  In my ASP.NET MVC 3 application I have classes like the following: public class Localization<T> { public int VersionID { get; set; } public T Value { get; set; } ... } public class Localizable<T> { public Localization<T>[] Name { get; set; } ... } Then, I have the following view: @model dynamic ... @for (int i = 0; i < VersionCount; i++) { ... @Html.Editor(string.Format("Name[{0}.Value", i)) ... } Now, when I display this view, passing a subclass of Localizable<string> as the model, the textboxes for the strings are rendered, but they are empty. If I replace @Html.Editor(string.Format("Name[{0}.Value", i)) with @InputExtensions.TextBox(Html, string.Format("Name[{0}].Value", i), Model.Name[i].Value), the textboxes are correctly filled with values from the model. However, using TextBox instead of Editor is not an option for me, because I want to use different editor templates for different types of T. So, what am I doing wrong, or is it a bug in MVC, and is there any workaround?

• Authlogic: passwords saved in the DB are not working as expected.

  Hello everyone, Im having trouble with authlogic on my production server. Im able to update passwords in the database but when i try to validate a user using the new password, the validation fails. Please check the below console output. Notice how the salt and crypted_password fields get update before and after the new password is saved. The issue is only on my production server (running passenger). I've tried to build this test function where the return value of the test_cases list should match the values in the test_case_answers list but for some reason, test case 1 and test case 2 fail. When i print the return values for the test cases they return the correct answers, but for some reason test case 1 and test case 2 return False. I've tried "getLayoutInflator()" instead of "LayoutInflator.from(this)" with the same result. If I replace the LayoutInflater line with "setContentView(R.layout.unit_view)" my program doesn't crash with a null pointer exception but my content is completely blank and empty. I get the tab and that's it. I've checked to make sure R.layout.unit_view and tabHost are not null when it runs the LayoutInflater line and they seem to be fine. They're defenitely not null. I've also checked to make sure LayoutInflater.from(this) returns a valid layout inflater object and it does. My point here is that we do not need so many small methods initially because StringCalculator has no sub classes and secondly the code itself is so simple that we don't need to break it up too much that it gets confusing after having so many small methods. Their point is that code should read like english and also its better if they can break it up earlier than doing refactoring later and third when they will do refactoring it would be much easier to move these methods quite easily into separate classes. My point of view against is that we never made a decision that code is difficult to understand so why we are breaking it up so early. So I need a third person's opinion to understand which option is much better.

• Unicenter Software Delivery 4 not able to connect to MS SQL 2000 Database after W2003 SP2 upgrade

  Hello Everyone Yesterday I installed the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Server 2003 which has Unicenter Software Delivery 4 installed. Prior to the installation I disabled every CA service on the server (Brightstor, SDO , RCO, TNG) and the MS SQL 2000 service. After the installation of the SP2 I enabled the services again but the Unicenter Service is not able to connect to the MS SQL 2000 Database anymore. The database itself is up and running and I can connect to it with the Enterprise Manager. A dbcc checkdb doesnt return any errors on the Unicenter database.   Hi guys, I'm newbie to Java EE 6 and i'm trying to develop very simple JAX-RS application. RESTfull web service working fine. However when I ran my test application, I got the following.
