  • Rails 2.3.5 table populated by fixtures at end of test run rather than at start

    I start with a test database containing the schema but with no data in the tables. I run a test like so cd test/ ruby unit/directive_test.rb I get failures indicating that the code found no data in the data tables. However, I look at the tables after running that test and the data is now in the the table. In fact, if I immediately run the test again I get no failures. So it appears that the fixture is being loaded into the table too late for one of my modules to find it. When are the fixtures loaded? After or before the app/model/*.rb files are executed? If it is after the models are executed is there a way to delay the loading? This issue is also relevant when running rake test:units since that task clears the test data after it finished.

    Hi, I am new to Java and junit. I have the following peice of code that I want to test. Would appreciate if you could send your ideas about what's the best way to go about testing it. Basically, the following code is about electing a leader form a Cluster. The leader holds a lock on the shared cache and services of the leader get resumed and disposed if it somehow looses the lock on the cache.     I have a piece of code and I could not figure out why it is giving me Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError. This is the question: Given a positive integer n, prints out the sum of the lengths of the Syracuse sequence starting in the range of 1 to n inclusive. So, for example, the call: lengths(3) will return the the combined length of the sequences: 1 2 1 3 10 5 16 8 4 2 1 which is the value: 11. lengths must throw an IllegalArgumentException if its input value is less than one.     It is easy to setup Datamapper with a Sqlite3 in memory database with: DataMapper.setup :default, 'sqlite3::memory:'. However, when testing, I'd like to destroy the whole in memory database after each test, instead of invoking automigrate! as a shortcut on dropping everything. Is it possible? Or is it enough to set the default repository to nil, and let the garbage collector dispose of it?

  • What are the pitfalls to watch out for when upgrading MediaWiki?

    We've got MediaWiki 1.13.2 and we'll soon be upgrading to the latest & greatest version (probably 1.16). We've got lots of extensions installed (for which we'll probably also need to get the latest versions) and we've done some minor configuring (e.g. adding new edit buttons). What should we watch out for during the upgrade? And what should we test? Does anyone have any experience of things that went wrong?

    I've written a ListActivity for Android 2.1 which is used to display a list of event categories. As the user selects a category, the program calls a web service to retrieve a list of sub-events. For example, a top level event might be "soccer" and when the user selects this the web service would return various soccer associations (e.g. "english", "french", "german", etc.) and display them in a new list. The following code seems to work occasionally, however sometimes the call to the service (in EventsListTask) fails because the serviceBinder is null.   • returning null vs returning zero, which would be better?

    I inherited a project that I am managing and having to maintain pending the redevelopment of the code base. At the moment I am being tasked with adding little feature all over the place and have gotten into the habit of returning null instead of zero in parts of the code where I am working on. The problem is we have a client that is using this code and parts of code that require data from my implemented features recieve a null and dump the stack trace in UI. I would like to avoid this entirely from my input but without the nullPointer exceptions there's the potential that errors would be introduced into the client's data which may go un-noticed. Usually I would have come up with my own error notification system but I have never inherited a project before. so I am unsure whether to continue down this path. I still believe that the stack dump is preferable to un-noticed data corruption/inaccuracies.

Just want the user to click it and nothing happen, the child of that menu item will already be being displayed without a click.     I've started learning bash scripting by using this guide: http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/abs-guide.pdf However I got stuck at the first script: cd /var/log cat /dev/null > messages cat /dev/null > wtmp echo "Log files cleaned up." What do lines 2 and 3 do in Ubuntu (I understand cat)? Is it only for other Linux distributions? After running this script as root, the output I get is Log files cleaned up. But /var/log still contains all the files.
