  Hello, I have a "database solution" project in VS2008 - it generates SQL for more than one DB vendor from some sort of templates. In order to save time, I also have a tool in VS2008 configured (a Python script), which can compile an individual stored procedure. Now, with the Python script I have the freedom of processing the output and have it take on whatever form I want. I am toying with an idea of having these errors and warnings somehow recognized and populating the click-able Error / Warning list. • All things equal what is the fastest way to output data to disk in C++?

  I am running simulation code that is largely bound by CPU speed. I am not interested in pushing data in/out to a user interface, simply saving it to disk as it is computed. What would be the fastest solution that would reduce overhead? iostreams? printf? I have previously read that printf is faster. Will this depend on my code and is it impossible to get an answer without profiling? Edit: Output data needs to be in text format, whether tab or comma separated. This will require formatting, precision, etc. Running in Windows.

Trying to read the contents of a CMS HTML placeholder control into a string reader object so certain logic can be performed and the page output modified before it is displayed: StringReader srHtml = new StringReader(this.HtmlPlaceholderControl1.Html); The problem is that the Html property is empty during Page_Load, I've tried in a PreRender overload as well, but the property is still empty. The HtmlPlaceholder control does render html when the page load has completed. Which event should be handled in order to read the propery of the web control?

• Slime: frame-source-location not implemented / is my sldb Backtrace output normal?

  I'm debugging my Lisp code in Slime. When the debugger generates the Backtrace it's my understanting that I can hit 'v' on a frame to take me to the source. When I do this on the first (0 index) frame (or indeed any frame) I get frame-source-location not implemented Is this expected, am I missing anything? Edit1: In addition every single frame has "No Locals", is this to be expected too? Edit2: In fact, the whole backtrace output is pretty unintelligible. I'm new to Lisp, so I wasn't initially sure if this was expected or not - but I'm attaching a screenshot, hopefully someone can confirm for me if this looks 'normal':

• Should we avoid to use Object as the input parameter/ output value of a method?

  Take Java syntax as an example, though the question itself is language independent. If the following snippet takes an object MyAbstractEmailTemplate as input argument in the method setTemplate, the class MyGateway will then become tightly-coupled with the object MyAbstractEmailTemplate, which lessens the re-usability of the class MyGateway. A compromise is to use dependency-injection to ease the instantiation of MyAbstractEmailTemplate. This might solve the coupling problem to some extent, but the interface is still rigid, hardly providing enough ?exibility to other developers/ applications. So if we only use primitive data type (or even plain XML in web service) as the input/ output of a method, it seems the coupling problem no longer exists. • How can I make external script output link to code in Visual Studio?

  I sometimes need to search code for patterns in a way that goes beyond the regex capabilities of Visual Studio (e.g. patterns that depend on what was seen previously in the file or on the contents of other files). So I use Perl to analyze the source and output matching lines, along with the file name and line number. Since this is the exact same format as is produced by the search feature of Visual Studio, I wonder if there is a way to duplicate the functionality where I can double-click on a line and it will display that line in context in Visual Studio. Any ideas?

  Hi all, In Visual Studio 2010, I have project A (asp.net application). Project A references project B (class library). Project B references assembly C (direct reference to a DLL). When building project A, only project A and project B binaries are present in the /bin directory of project A, but not the assembly C. Why is that? If project B depends on assembly C, why is assembly C not copied together to the output folder? "Copy local" is already set to "true" for assembly C. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

  Hi All, I have an comma delimited string which I want to use in an "IN" clause of the statement. eg: 100,101,102 Since In and "IN" clause I have to quote the individial strings, I use a replace function: eg: select ''''||replace('100,101,102',',',''', ''')||'''' from dual; The above query works, however, when I try to use the output of the above as an input to the "IN" clause, it returns no data. I am restricted by only SQL statements, so I cannot use PL/SQL code. Kindly help. eg: select * from employee where employee_number in ( select ''''||replace('100,101,102',',',''', ''')||'''' from dual); The above does not work. Please let me know what I am missing.

  I have a constructor that has a series of classes and functions within it - in each function I check if the param is set to show the error and output if so. Like so using an inline if. Since the Ant build can take 5 minutes, I would like to see the output line by line. Instead, I'm getting the entire input at the end of the process. Looking at it with the Perl debugger, Perl waits at the 'for' statement, until Ant terminates. Why is that?

  Hi, I have quite a big user control which creates an ASP.NET tab menu and within each tab a lengthy set of icons/menus. The menu is dynamically created from the database. I thought I could wrap the user control with an output cache directive to speed things up. I set OutputCache varybyparam="none" and duration to 120 seconds. When I navigate to my page, the usercontrol containing the tab menus and icons etc just vanishes? I thought ASP.NET was supposed to deliver some HTML that would previously have been cached. So why isn't this working? It doesn't seem to do what the label says on the tin?!? ;)

• Progressively stream the output of an ASP.NET page - or render a page outside of an HTTP request

  I have an ASP.NET 2.0 page with many repeating blocks, including a third-party server-side control (so it's not just plain HTML). Each is quite expensive to generate, in terms of both CPU and RAM. I'm currently using a standard Repeater control for this. There are two problems with this simple approach: The entire page must be rendered before any of it is returned to the client, so the user must wait a long time before they see any data. (I write progress messages using Response.Write, so there is feedback, but no actual results.) The ASP.NET worker process must hold everything in memory at the same time. There is no inherent needs for this: once one block is processed it won't be changed, so it could be returned to the client and the memory could be freed. I would like to somehow return these blocks to the client one at a time, as each is generated. I'm thinking of extracting the stuff inside the Repeater into a separate page and getting it repeatedly using AJAX, but there are some complications involved in that and I wonder if there is some simper approach. Ideally I'd like to keep it as one page (from the client's point of view), but return it incrementally. Another way would be to do something similar, but on the server: still create a separate page, but have the server access it and then Response.Write() the HTML it gets to the response stream for the real client request. Is there a way to avoid an HTTP request here, though? Is there some ASP.NET method that would render a UserControl or a Page outside of an HTTP request and simply return the HTML to me as a string? I'm open to other ideas on how to do this as well.

  In the past, all of our servers have automatically shown command arguments passed to rake when we view them in top. For example: But on this particular server, we get this instead (picture is top running, showing the rake command, but not showing any of the arguments that had been passed to rake): Both servers are running Ubuntu (though the server without rake commands is a newer flavor of ubuntu). Both run rake through ruby enterprise edition (as powered by rvm).   I have a RetrieveBlob.aspx that gets some query string variables and returns an asset. Eeach url corresponds to a unique asset. In the RetrieveBlob.aspx a Cache Profile is set. In Web.Config the profile looks like (under system.web tag: <caching> <outputCache enableOutputCache="true" /> <outputCacheSettings> <outputCacheProfiles> <add duration="14800" enabled="true" varyByParam="*" name="AssetCacheProfile" /> </outputCacheProfiles> </outputCacheSettings> </caching> Ok, this works fine. When I put a breakpoint in the code behind of RetrieveBlob.aspx, it gets triggered the first time, and all the other times not.   I'm making a script that executes some commands inside, and these commands show some output on STDOUT (and STDERR as well, but that's no problem). I need that my script generates a .tar.gz file to STDOUT, so the output of some commands executed in the script also go to STDOUT and this ends with a not valid .tar.gz file in the output. So, in short, it's possible to output the first commands to the screen (as I still want to see the output) but not via STDOUT? Also I would like to keep the STDERR untouched so only error messages appear there. A simple example of what I mean. This would be my script: #!/bin/bash # the output of these commands shouldn't go to STDOUT, but still appear on screen some_cmd foo bar other_cmd baz #the following command creates a tar.gz of the "whatever" folder, #and outputs the result to STDOUT tar zc whatever/ I've tried messing with exec and the file descriptors, but I still can't get it to work: #!/bin/bash # save STDOUT to #3 exec 3>&1 # the output of these commands should go to #3 and screen, but not STDOUT some_cmd foo bar other_cmd baz # restore STDOUT exec 1>&3 # the output of this command should be the only one that goes to STDOUT tar zc whatever/ I guess I'm lacking closing STDOUT after the first exec and reopen it again or something, but I can't find the right way to do it (right now the result is the same as if I didn't add the execs

• Why doesn't the monitor output anything in Linux console mode?

  I install Linux without graphics support. Previously I used a monitor with 720p support. And it can display normally. Now I change to a monitor with 1080p support. I can see BIOS and GRUB info on monitor, and kernel messages in early stages. However, the monitor says that there is no input immediately, and then I can't see anything again. It seems that it happens after something initializes.
