  • Multiple Post Requests Occuring in Quick Succession

    - by Samuel
This is a bit of an open ended question but we have a problem with a web application that on the final step of completing an order, multiple post requests are being made, sometimes up to 10 and all within a couple of seconds to the page. Theirs nothing unusual about the page, the user fills out a form which is then validated using the jQuery form validation plugin. We've seen this behavior exhibited over a couple of different browser types, notably IE6 but also IE8. We've also managed to trigger the bug ourselves but nothing out of the ordinary seems to occur on the browsers end, everything progresses as normal. Apache logs show that multiple post requests where made at the same time and the Rails logs show that multiple posts requests were also received by the application, leading me to think it's a problem with the browser. I've exhausted all avenues that I can think of for debugging so I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone has some ideas of what we could try or look for next.

  • What Use are Threads Outside of Parallel Problems on MultiCore Systesm?

    - by Robert S. Barnes
Threads make the design, implementation and debugging of a program significantly more difficult. Yet many people seem to think that every task in a program that can be threaded should be threaded, even on a single core system. I can understand threading something like an MPEG2 decoder that's going to run on a multicore cpu ( which I've done ), but what can justify the significant development costs threading entails when you're talking about a single core system or even a multicore system if your task doesn't gain significant performance from a parallel implementation? Or more succinctly, what kinds of non-performance related problems justify threading? Edit Well I just ran across one instance that's not CPU limited but threads make a big difference: TCP, HTTP and the Multi-Threading Sweet Spot Multiple threads are pretty useful when trying to max out your bandwidth to another peer over a high latency network connection. Non-blocking I/O would use significantly less local CPU resources, but would be much more difficult to design and implement.

  • Rails: How do I get created_at to show the time in my current time zone?

    - by Schneems
    Seems that when i create an object, the time is not correct. You can see by the script/console output below. Has anyone encountered anything like this, or have any debugging tips? >> Ticket.create(...) => #<Ticket id: 7, from_email: "[email protected]", ticket_collaterals: nil, to_email: "[email protected]", body: "hello", subject: "testing", status: nil, whymail_id: nil, created_at: "2009-12-31 04:23:20", updated_at: "2009-12-31 04:23:20", forms_id: nil, body_hash: nil> >> Ticket.last.created_at.to_s(:long) => "December 31, 2009 04:23" >> Time.now.to_s(:long) => "December 30, 2009 22:24"

  • How to debug "The type initializer for 'my class' threw an exception"

    - by JFB
I am getting the exception: The type initializer for 'my class' threw an exception. in my browser after running my web application. Since this seems to be an error message generated from the view (.aspx), there is no way I can see the stack trace or any log for the source of this error. I have read a bit around the net and one solution to debugging is to throw a TypeInitializationException and then looking at the inner exception to find out what was wrong. How can I do this when I don't know where to surround code with a try/catch ?

  • How do I programmatically nullify a File Attachment in InfoPath Forms

    - by Doctor Zinda
Howdy all, I'm running into a problem with some InfoPath C# code while trying to remove an attachment from a form. Basically the process is: User opens form User clicks button File attachment is cleared I've tried adding a blank attachment to my schema that never becomes populated, then setting the original field's value equal to that value by the method below. When debugging the form I catch an error: Schema validation found non-data type errors. Any tips here would be appreciated. public void BTN_ClearAttachment_Clicked(object sender, ClickedEventArgs e) { try { _OriginalAttachment.SetValue(_BLANK_ATTACHMENT.Value); } catch (Exception ex) { _ErrorField.SetValue(ex.Message + " : " + ex.StackTrace); } } Thanks, Dr Z Edit - P.S. I should clear up that both _OriginalAttachment & _ErrorField are both XPathNavigators, pointing at different schema elements. I've verified that these XPathNavigators are both pointing at valid schema elements.

  • Saving Bitmap from Clipboard to File Error

    - by Vanwaril
I'm using OLEDropTarget to get dropped content. It works fine with text. However, I'm not able to figure out how to get bitmaps from CF_BITMAP type data objects and save them to file. My code: HGLOBAL hg = pDataObject->GetGlobalData(CF_BITMAP); if (NULL == hg) { return FALSE; } HBITMAP pData = (HBITMAP)GlobalLock(hg); if(pData == NULL) return false; HBITMAP bmp; ::GetObject(pData,sizeof(HBITMAP),&bmp); CImage cnn; cnn.Attach(bmp); cnn.Save(L"here.bmp",Gdiplus::ImageFormatBMP); I get an error on the Attach, but when debugging I noticed that the GetObject doesn't make a copy into the second HBITMAP.

  • Strange behavior of for loop in scheduler_tick

    - by EpsilonVector
I'm working on Linux kernel 2.4 (homework) and I inserted the following code into the scheduler_tick function: if (unlikely(rt_task(p)) || (p->policy==SCHED_PROD && p->time_ran>=p->process_expected_time)) { /* * RR tasks need a special form of timeslice management. * FIFO tasks have no timeslices. */ if ((p->policy == SCHED_RR || /*change*/p->policy==SCHED_PROD) && !--p->time_slice) { /*changes*/ if (p->policy == SCHED_PROD){ for (i=0; i<5000; i++){ printk("I'm leeching off SCHED_RR code! %d\n", i); } } /*end changes*/ The addition was added for debugging purposes. For some reason this causes very weird behavior: when a SCHED_PROD process triggers this code (and consequently the loop that follows) the loop counts to about 4600 normally, but then goes back to 4600 each time it counts to 4800, and gets stuck in an infinite loop. What's going on?? EDIT: The i variable is my own.

  • What are the possible causes of JasperException

    - by CitadelCSCadet
I have a JSP that takes an Arraylist from the session object and removes the items from it. It seemed to be working fine and then out of nowhere when I navigate to that page, the page is blank. I checked the Tomcat log files and in catalina.out I am receiving a JasperException an it is showing it as being on a line with the following for(int i; i < agentItems.size(); i++) agentItems is the name of the ArrayList I am using. I have been debugging it and can't seem to figure out what the problem might be. I have read that a JasperException is sometiems thrown as a JSP's NullPointerException. Is this true or am I just completely overlooking the problem? I have the web application running on a local machine and a intermediate server for development in which both of them have had no trouble. Why could it be that only on this server it is giving me problems?

  • Internet explore is unresponsive while loading a large page

    - by kdhamane
We have a html page being rendered in the browser (IE) that causes the browser to hang. The page is generated through server side script (ASP.NET and viewstate is disabled). The page while loading takes a long time (its not a b\w issue since we can reproduce it on local machine) and sometimes results in script unresponsive error. On debugging the issue we found that the html size on the client side is 4.73 MB. There's also a lot of DOM traversal (using JQuery) after document is ready (jquery-document.ready). After loading as well, the page simply hangs on any user interaction (scroll, mouseover) etc. A CPU usage spike (25-50% usage) is seen during loading and on any user interaction

  • How to show / debug PEAR::DB errors in webpage?

    - by Markus Ossi
I am connecting to MySQL database on my webpage and have this copy-pasted code for errors: if(DB::isError($db)) die($db->getMessage()); I have the connection code in an outside file called connection.inc that I include at the beginning of my page before the DOCTYPE and html tags. For debugging purposes, how can I print the database errors on my webpage? I thought I could do something like this: echo 'Could not connect to database. The error was:' . $db->getMessage(); but this returns: Fatal error: Call to undefined method DB_mysql::getMessage()

  • JAXWS serves only 100 requests, how to configure JAXWS to change it to unlimited?

    - by cbz
Hello, I'm using JAXWS for generating webservices and serving using EndPoint.publish() as well as deploying war file, but as soon as it has served 100 requests it wouldn't return 101st response. How to configure JAXWS to change this count to unlimited? EDIT: solution found, first of all it was not related to JAXWS and I'm sorry for posting it here, in my first impression I thought problem is with JAXWS but after deep exploring and debugging I found problem with my persistence layer (Hibernate) where max number of sessions allowed are 100 by default. Sorry again for making you guys to think which actually does not make sense.

  • Object reference not set to an instance of an object - how to find the offending object name in the

    - by Jason
This is the bane of my programming existence. After deploying an application, when this error crops up, no amount of debug dump tells you WHAT object was not instantiated. I have the call stack, that's great, it tells me roughly where the object is, but is there any way to get .NET to tell me the actual name of the object? If you catch them while debugging, of course the program breaks right on the offending creature, but if it happens after the program is in the wild, good luck. There has to be a way. I've explored the exceptions returned in these instances and there is just nothing helpful.

  • SQLCe local db in temp- path in connectionstring?

    - by Petr
Hi, I have SQL Ce db in my app, which is included in my app directory. While debugging its OK, but when published and run with setup.exe, it retrieves "file not found" in temporary directory the app is ran from. I would like to run from standard location, but I dont know how to change it. I am using this string: SqlCeConnection connection = new SqlCeConnection("Data Source=database.sdf;Persist Security Info=False;"); When I run setup.exe, the app never starts, stating that in its temporary directory the db file was not found. When I run app.exe, it works. I do not understand it...:( EDIT: I can see that in the VS project settings, there is connection string and there is "Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Database.sdf" The path should be something like local directory? Thanks!

  • How to shutdown local tomcat server when closing browser window?

    - by agez
Hi, I hava a web app running on a local tomcat server. When the user starts the app (via desktop shortcut) the server starts and the app is opened in a browser window. But when the user just clicks on the close button to stop the application the server is still running in the background - that's annoying. I tried to utilize the "unonload" and "onbeforeunload" events from javascript but unfortunately these events are also fired on some other requests in the app. So I can't use them, except I do a lot of refactoring. Does anyone have an idea for a possible solution? Btw, what I find interesting is the behaviour of Visual Studio when debugging a web application. When I close the browser window Visual Studio also gets a trigger to stop debug mode. So it seems it somehow notices the close event of the browser window, which would be exactly what I need. But I don't know how they do it... Cheers, Helmut

  • "Invalid Procedure Call or Argument", but only in a compiled or P-Code EXE

    - by Rob Perkins
I have a VB6 program which I've been maintaining for ten years. There is a subroutine in the program called "Prepare Copy", which looks like this: Public Sub PrepareCopy() Set CopiedShapes = New Collection End Sub Where CopiedShapes is dimmed out as a VB6 Collection. That code is now kicking out a Runtime Error 5 -- Invalid Procedure Call or Argument. It appears from the interstitial debugging code that the error arises between the Public Sub PrepareCopy() and the Set CopiedShapes = New Collection lines. That's right. The VB6 error is happening between two lines of my code. I can think of no other explanation for this. It's behaving this way on my development machine and two client computers. It is only happening in runtime code, and does not appear to make a difference whether I compile it or use P-Code What I'm asking for here is speculation as to what causes this sort of thing to happen.

  • ASP.NET MVC View Not posting back to Post method and expecting a parameterless Constructor?

    - by VJ
Hi, I am trying to post back some data using a viewmodel i have created and it works for me for one of the projects. But I am doin this right now public ActionResult Foo(string userkey) { vm.Value="Xvalue"; return View(vm); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Foo( MyViewModel vm) { // process input if (inputOK) string value=vm.Value return RedirectToAction("Index"); return View(); } public class MyViewModel { public string Value { get; set; } public SomeClass newobj {get;set;} } public class SomeClass { public int id{get;set;} public string str{get;set;} } So it on debugging never goes into the parameter method for Post although on the view i have added a form and a button that submits and the page inherits from the viewmodel.I get an error saying it expects a parameterless constructor how do I fix this ? . I wrote an post method with no parameters and it does go into that method

  • how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

    - by fayer
when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

  • Oracle data provider hangs IIS worker process when web site is stopped

    - by Greg
We're experiencing a nasty issue in Oracle 11g Release 2 where the w3wp process takes over and entire processor core, and debugging shows that the Oracle data provider is throwing ThreadAbortExceptions infinitely. A developer found this issue by doing the following: 1) Browse a web site that uses Oracle data connections locally (http://localhost/OracleWebSite) - we use IIS, not the ASP.NET dev server, for all of our sites. This ensures that the w3wp process is running and that an active Oracle pool of connections exists in the app pool. 2) Stop the web site (or perform a Rebuild All operation in Visual Studio on the web site in question). Our Oracle connection handling in the affected applications (all Oracle web apps) is well-established and robust. This issue does not occur if we disable connection pooling. This issue does not occur in Oracle 11g Release 1.

  • How can I use the Scala program schema2src?

    - by pr1001
This perhaps more a Server Fault question... I installed schema2src via sbaz and now I would like to convert a DTD (Apple's plist schema) to Scala source. $ schema2src usage: schema2src [flags] --module mname arg* or schema2src dtd arg* or (experimental) schema2src xsd arg* (this doesn't work at all yet) where supported [flags] may be: --verbose prints some debugging information However, if I try give any argument, it appears it can't find Scala: $ schema2src --verbose Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: scala/runtime/BoxesUtility at schema2src.Main$.processArgs(Main.scala:56) at schema2src.Main$.main(Main.scala:25) at schema2src.Main.main(Main.scala) Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: scala.runtime.BoxesUtility at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:315) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:330) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:250) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:398) ... 3 more I have scala in my PATH... Any suggestions? Assuming that problem can be fixed, is this the correct syntax? $ schema2src PropertyList-1.0.dtd

  • Difference between debug and release.

Why when I'm debugging in debug mode everything in code below works as suppose to but when I switch to release I'm getting strange result? void say_hello(int argc, char* argv[])//In release mode argc has different values from 124353625 to 36369852 <include iostream> { std::cout << "In say_hello()\n"; } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { say_hello(3,argv);//when instead of literal I enter "argc" everything is ok. return 0; } Thanks for help.

  • casting BSTR as char* in a dll; different results depnding on VB/C# caller.

    - by Toby Wilson
I have a dll function that takes BSTR parameters. These are casted as char* before being used for other things. When the dll is called from VB code this works fine. However, when it is called from C# code, only the first character is pointed to. Both of these are excel addIns for Pre-2007 and 2007+ versions of Office, which call into a faster C++ AddIn. They actually call it directly, not through Excel. The VB function declaration looks like this: Private Declare Function Test Lib "ExcelAddIn.xll" (ByVal param As String) As String The C# function declaration looks like this: [DllImport("ExcelAddIn.xll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] [return:MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.BStr)] private static extern string Test([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.BStr)] string param); When debugging the dll and watching the input BSTR values, they appear to be correct from both; just the C# one only casts the first character. Charset=CharSet.Unicode makes no difference. Any ideas anyone?

  • How do I obtain the version information for my Windows Service programmatically

    - by user302004
    I need to obtain the version of my Windows service programmatically and store it in a string. Then, I'll append the version to my display name and service name in the ProjectInstaller class. Right now I'm getting an empty string and I'm having trouble debugging my setup project. Here's my current code: string version = null; try { Assembly exeAssembly = Assembly.GetEntryAssembly(); Type attrType = typeof(AssemblyFileVersionAttribute); object[] attributes = exeAssembly.GetCustomAttributes(attrType, false); if (attributes.Length 0) { AssemblyFileVersionAttribute verAttr = (AssemblyFileVersionAttribute)attributes[0]; if (verAttr != null) { version = verAttr.Version; } } } catch { } if (version == null) { version = string.empty; }

  • What are good resources for computer graphics basics?

    - by Hanno Fietz
During Flex programming, I recently ran into several questions (about box models, ways to join lines and misaligning pixels [on doctype]) regarding computer graphics and layout, where I felt that I lacked some basic background on things like concepts like the box model approaches mapping real numbers to a pixel raster (like font anti-aliasing) conventions found across drawing engines, like do you count y coordinates from top or bottom, and why I feel that reading some basic Wikipedia articles, books or tutorials on these subjects might help in phrasing my questions more specifically and debugging my code more systematically. I have repeatedly found myself writing tiny test apps in Flex, just to find out how the APIs do very basic stuff. My assumption would be that if I knew the right vocabulary and some general concepts, I could solve these questions much faster.

  • MonoRail - Clearing value on edit form submission doesn't trigger validation

    - by Justin
Hey, In a MonoRail app I have an add/edit view. On add if I don't pick a value for a dropdown I get a validation error and am forced to pick a value. However, if I then edit that same item and reset the dropdown back to the first item ("Select an Item", "0"), it saves and doesn't say it was invalid. Debugging the entity sent back to the server, I can see that it's sending the original value for the dropdown instead of the new value of "0". What's going on here? The first thing I would expect is that it would trigger the validation since the dropdown value isn't set. The second thing I would expect is that it would send the new value I send, not the original. It does send the new value if I change it to another value, but it's as if it has internal logic that says - "I'm updating this entity and a new value was not passed, just don't change the entity value." Thanks, Justin
