  Hi all, I am fetching data from MySql Server into R using RODBC. So in one column of the database is a character vector SELECT MAX(CHAR_LENGTH(column)) FROM reqtable; RETURNS 26566 Now I will show you an example how I am running into the problem `library(RODBC) con <- odbcConnect("mysqlcon") rslts <- as.numeric(sqlQuery(con, "SELECT CHAR_LENGTH(column) FROM reqtable LIMIT 10", as.is=TRUE)[,1]) ` returns > rslts [1] 62 31 17 103 30 741 28 73 25 357 where as rslts <- nchar(as.character(sqlQuery(con, "SELECT column FROM reqtable LIMIT 10", as.is=TRUE)[,1])) returns > rslts [1] 62 31 17 103 30 255 28 73 25 255 So strings with length 255 is getting truncated at 255. Is there a way I can get the full string. Thanks

• Hibernate Auto-Increment not working

  I have a column in my DB that is set with Identity(1,1) and I can't get hibernate annotations to work for it. I get errors when I try to create a new record. In my entity I have the following. @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.IDENTITY, generator="native") @Column(name="SeqNo", unique=true, nullable=false) BigDecimal seqNo; But when I try to add a new record I get the following error. Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'MemberSelectedOptions' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF. I don't want to set IDENTIY_INSERT to ON because I want the identity column in the db to manage the values. The SQL that is run is the following; where you can clearly see the insert. insert into dbo.MemberSelectedOptions (OptionStatusCd, EffectiveDate, TermDate, SelectionStatusDate, SysLstUpdtUserId, SysLstTrxDtm, SourceApplication, GroupId, MemberId, OptionId, SeqNo) values (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) What am I missing?

  How would I go around creating a MYSQL table schema inspecting an Excel(or CSV) file. Are there any ready Python libraries for the task? Column headers would be sanitized to column names. Datatype would be estimated based on the contents of the spreadsheet column. When done, data would be loaded to the table. I have an Excel file of ~200 columns that I want to start normalizing.

• Transparently surround a component with a link in Wicket

  I want to be able to add links on certain items in an ListView. If an items is surrounded by the link or not is up to the code, so its not in the normal page markup. Say i have a markup like this: <div class="column" wicket:id="columnRepeater"> <span wicket:id="column"></span> </div> So essentially, while filling the repeater with a ListView i am able to find a custom renderer for the column component. (not my playingfield). What i want is to add a Link/Ajax Link around the column component. I learned using wicket:border lets you surround additional stuff. Now, the border markup looks like this: <wicket:border> <a wicket:id="link"><wicket:body/></a> </wicket:border> Now, i am a bit puzzled what the Border implementation looks like. Anyone there who can suggest a working java part? I have a couple of "work in progress" solutions but none works. Most questions have to do with usage of component ids. Is the border id = column ? Whats the id of the inner (border body) id then?

I am wondering why even a single delete statement of this store procedure will cause deadlock if executed by multiple threads at the same time? For the delete statement, Param1 is a column of table FooTable, Param1 is a foreign key of another table (refers to another primary key clustered index column of the other table). There is no index on Param1 itself for table FooTable.   I am adding a new GUID/Uniqueidentifier column to my table. ALTER TABLE table_name ADD VersionNumber UNIQUEIDENTIFIER UNIQUE NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWSEQUENTIALID() GO And when ever a record is updated in the table, I would want to update this column "VersionNumber". So I create a new trigger CREATE TRIGGER [DBO].[TR_TABLE_NAMWE] ON [DBO].[TABLE_NAME] AFTER UPDATE AS BEGIN UPDATE TABLE_NAME SET VERSIONNUMBER=NEWSEQUENTIALID() FROM TABLE_NAME D JOIN INSERTED I ON D.ID=I.ID/* some ID which is used to join*/ END GO But just realized that NEWSEQUENTIALID() can only be used with CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE. I got this error The newsequentialid() built-in function can only be used in a DEFAULT expression for a column of type 'uniqueidentifier' in a CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE statement. It cannot be combined with other operators to form a complex scalar expression. Is there a workaround for this ? Edit1: Changing NEWSEQUENTIALID() to NEWID() in the trigger solves this, but I am indexing this column and using NEWID() would be sub-optimal

• Alter multiple tables' columns length

  So, we just found out that 254 tables in our Oracle DBMS have one column named "Foo" with the wrong length- Number(10) instead of Number(3). That foo column is a part from the PK of the tables. Those tables have other tables with forigen keys to it. What I did is: backed-up the table with a temp table. Disabled the forigen keys to the table. Disabled the PK with the foo column. Nulled the foo column for all the rows. Restored all the above But now we found out it's not just couple of tables but 254 tables. Is there an easy way, (or at least easier than this) to alter the columns length? P.S. I have DBA permissions.

  I'm using Computed Columns to provide me with the following information: Hours, Minutes, and Seconds between a Start DateTime and Finish DateTime (Where Minutes and Seconds are between 0 and 59 and Hours can be any value 0 or greater) Computed Column for Seconds: datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) % 60 Computed Column for Minutes: floor(datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) / 60.0) % 60 Computed Column for Hours: floor(datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) / 3600.0) Here's the table for reference Note: I'm also calculating TotalElapsedSeconds, TotalElapsedMinutes, and TotalElapsedHours in other computed columns, but those are easy. I just feel like I might be missing out on a nice built in function in SQL.

• hibernate empty collection in component

  I have a component mapped using Hibernate. If all fields in the component in the database are null, the component itself is set to null by hibernate. This is the expected behavior and also what I need. The problem I have, is that when I add a bag to that component, the bag is initialized to an empty list. This means the component has a non null value... resulting in the component being created. • VBA for filtering columns

  I have a big database-like sheet, first row contains headers. I would like a subset of rows of this table based on column values. Two issues: 1) VBA-wise I would like to loop through the columns, when the values for all necessary columns all match, copy the entire row into a new sheet. 2) The subset of rows is based on a list. This should be the first column to be looped through. For example I want all rows where the value in column A is equal to one of the values in my list. Is there any possibility to autofilter strings based on a list (column) of strings? EDIT Thanks to @Doug Glancy the autofiltering works now, so I've removed my (horrible) code and issue 1 is solved.

Also I need to set ID property for a single column in the grid to set it the treecolumn so one column must have individual id field too.

  I have a 2D array called "results." Each "row" array in results contains both string and integer values. I'm using this script to sort the array by any "column" on an onclick event: function sort_array(results, column, direction) { var sorted_results = results.sort(value); function value(a,b) { a = a[column]; b = b[column]; return a == b ? 0 : (a < b ? -1*direction : 1*direction) } } This works fine for the columns with strings. But it treats the columns of integers like strings instead of numbers. For example, the values 15, 1000, 200, 97 would be sorted 1000, 15, 200, 97 if "ascending" or 97, 200, 15, 1000 "descending." I've double-checked the typeof the integer values, and the script knows they're numbers. How can I get it to treat them as such?

  I'm a relative rookie at this,so please bear with me... I have 2 tables: OrderDetail and OrderMaster...both have a column named SalesOrder. OrderDetail table has multiple rows per unique SalesOrder. OrderMaster table has one row per unique SalesOrder. OrderDetail has a column named LineType. OrderMaster has a column named OrderStatus. I want to select all records from OrderDetail that have a LineType of "1" AND whose matching SalesOrder line in the OrderMaster table has a OrderStatus column value of "4". In plain English, orders with a Status 4 are open and ready to ship, LineType value of 1 means the Detail Line is a product code. How should this query be structured? It's going into VS 2008 (VB).
