  • How can I build an app with multiple types of controllers?

    - by Sheehan Alam
How can I accomplish the following: When my app loads a UIView will show 4 buttons Clicking on a button will load a UITabBarController (not a UIView with a UITabBar) that can display multiple views. This seems challenging to me, because in order for me to use the UITabBarController I need to add this to the window's subview in my appDelegate. By doing so, my app automatically will load with the UITabbarController in the root view.

  • Caching using hibernate

    - by Subhendu Mahanta
I have 2 applications.First one is a web application through which we provision reference data.Second one is an ESB based application where the reference data is used. The reference data changes but not very frequently. We needed to cache the reference data. The web application( I am not the owner) used hibernate. But my ESB based application did not.We only used EHCache. When reference data is changed by the independent web application that needs to be reflected in ESB application. We implemented using message queue - that is when reference data changes web application sends a message to the message queue. Our ESB application listens to that message & clears the cache & caches the data once again. This works. But it is time intensive. How can I use Hibernate to improve the situation? Regards, Subhendu

  • Any problems with this C++ const reference accessor interface idiom?

    - by mskfisher
I was converting a struct to a class so I could enforce a setter interface for my variables. I did not want to change all of the instances where the variable was read, though. So I converted this: struct foo_t { int x; float y; }; to this: class foo_t { int _x; float _y; public: foot_t() : x(_x), y(_y) { set(0, 0.0); } const int &x; const float &y; set(int x, float y) { _x = x; _y = y; } }; I'm interested in this because it seems to model C#'s idea of public read-only properties. Compiles fine, and I haven't seen any problems yet. Besides the boilerplate of associating the const references in the constructor, what are the downsides to this method? Any strange aliasing issues? Why haven't I seen this idiom before?

  • How do I handle editing of custom types in a C# datagridview?

    - by Ian Hopkinson
I have a datagridview in which one column contains a custom class, which I have set using: dgvPeriods.Columns[1].ValueType = typeof(ExDateTime); It is rigged up to display correctly by handling the CellFormatting event, but I'm unsure what event to handle for cell editing. In the absence of doing anything I get a FormatException as the datagridview tries to convert String to ExDateTime as I try to move focus out of the edited cell. I tried adding type conversion to my ExDateTime custom class: public static implicit operator ExDateTime(string b) { return new ExDateTime(b); } But this this didn't work. I also tried handling the DataError event, but this seems to fire too late. The datagridview is not databound.

  • Object reference not set to an instance of an object - how to find the offending object name in the

    - by Jason
This is the bane of my programming existence. After deploying an application, when this error crops up, no amount of debug dump tells you WHAT object was not instantiated. I have the call stack, that's great, it tells me roughly where the object is, but is there any way to get .NET to tell me the actual name of the object? If you catch them while debugging, of course the program breaks right on the offending creature, but if it happens after the program is in the wild, good luck. There has to be a way. I've explored the exceptions returned in these instances and there is just nothing helpful.

  • Is it possible to reference a linkbotton outside an update panel as the update trigger?

    - by Selase
I have a page based on a master page and as such i can only see the content place holders i used in the master page showing up in the aspx pages based on the master page. the source code shown below: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="CaseAdmin.aspx.cs" Inherits="Prototype4.CaseAdmin" %> <%@PreviousPageType VirtualPath="~/Account/Login.aspx"%> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent" runat="server"> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="CaseRightNews" ContentPlaceHolderID="RightNewsItem" runat="server"> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="CaseLeftNav" ContentPlaceHolderID="LeftNavigation" runat="server"> <div style="margin-top:20px; margin-bottom:20px;"> <p class="actionButton"> <asp:LinkButton ID="OpenCaseLinkButton" runat="server" onclick="OpenCaseLinkButton_Click">Open Case</asp:LinkButton> </p> <p class="actionButton"><asp:LinkButton ID="RegisterExhibitLinkButton" runat="server" onclick="RegisterExhibitLinkButton_Click">Register Exhibit</asp:LinkButton> </p> </div> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="CaseMainContnt" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager" runat="server" /> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="CaseMainCntntUpdatePanel" UpdateMode="Conditional" runat="server"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="" eventname="Click"/> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <%--Some text here to inform user to click on the open case botton to display open case form--%> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> <asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" id="UpdatePanel1" updatemode="Conditional"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="" eventname="Click"/> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <%--some text here to inform users to click on the add exhibit botton to display add exhibit form--%> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </asp:Content> the section of the entire page i wish to change upon update is the (this is the main content of the page). for this reason i placed the updatepanel inside the content place holder since it cant be sitting outside and not wrapped in a content place holder. However, the buttons that i wish to apply the trigger that fires the update to, are in another content place holder(). How can i possibly get those buttons to act as the trigger while changing only what appears in the main content area. Plus, i tried getting the updatepanel to work just so i could see if it does the update well but it turned out really bad. i added some linkbottons in the content template area and used them as the triggers for testing reasons. i tested and the changes took over the entire page in contrast to just appearing in the content area. I actually just wanted to load a form that is created in another asp. page into the main content area... I seriously need help with this... Every little help, detail and information is dearly appreciated... thanks so much in advance

  • How do I put all types implementing a certain generic interface in a dictionary?

    - by James Wenday
Given a particular interface ITarget<T> and a particular type myType, here's how you would determine T if myType implements ITarget<T>. (This code snippet is taken from the answer to an earlier question.) foreach (var i in myType.GetInterfaces ()) if (i.IsGenericType && i.GetGenericTypeDefinition() == typeof(ITarget<>)) return i.GetGenericArguments ()[0] ; However, this only checks a single type, myType. How would I create a dictionary of all such type parameters, where the key is T and the value is myType? I think it would look something like this: var searchTarget = typeof(ITarget<>); var dict = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().[???] .Where(t => t.IsGenericType && t.GetGenericTypeDefinition() == searchTarget) .[???]; What goes in the blanks?

  • How to maintain ComboBox.SelectedItem reference when DataSource is resorted?

    - by Dave
    This really seems like a bug to me, but perhaps some databinding gurus can enlighten me? (My WinForms databinding knowledge is quite limited.) I have a ComboBox bound to a sorted DataView. When the properties of the items in the DataView change such that items are resorted, the SelectedItem in my ComboBox does not keep in-sync. It seems to point to someplace completely random. Is this a bug, or am I missing something in my databinding? Here is a sample application that reproduces the problem. All you need is a Button and a ComboBox: public partial class Form1 : Form { private DataTable myData; public Form1() { this.InitializeComponent(); this.myData = new DataTable(); this.myData.Columns.Add("ID", typeof(int)); this.myData.Columns.Add("Name", typeof(string)); this.myData.Columns.Add("LastModified", typeof(DateTime)); this.myData.Rows.Add(1, "first", DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(-2)); this.myData.Rows.Add(2, "second", DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(-1)); this.myData.Rows.Add(3, "third", DateTime.Now); this.myData.DefaultView.Sort = "LastModified DESC"; this.comboBox1.DataSource = this.myData.DefaultView; this.comboBox1.ValueMember = "ID"; this.comboBox1.DisplayMember = "Name"; } private void saveStuffButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { DataRowView preUpdateSelectedItem = (DataRowView)this.comboBox1.SelectedItem; // OUTPUT: SelectedIndex = 0; SelectedItem.Name = third Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("SelectedIndex = {0:N0}; SelectedItem.Name = {1}", this.comboBox1.SelectedIndex, preUpdateSelectedItem["Name"])); this.myData.Rows[0]["LastModified"] = DateTime.Now; DataRowView postUpdateSelectedItem = (DataRowView)this.comboBox1.SelectedItem; // OUTPUT: SelectedIndex = 2; SelectedItem.Name = second Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("SelectedIndex = {0:N0}; SelectedItem.Name = {1}", this.comboBox1.SelectedIndex, postUpdateSelectedItem["Name"])); // FAIL! Debug.Assert(object.ReferenceEquals(preUpdateSelectedItem, postUpdateSelectedItem)); } }

  • Oracle: Is there a way to get the column data types for a view?

    - by rally25rs
For a table in oracle, I can query "all_tab_columns" and get table column information, like the data type, precision, whether or not the column is nullable. In SQL Developer or TOAD, you can click on a view in the GUI and it will spit out a list of the columns that the view returns and the same set of data (data type, precision, nullable, etc). So my question is, is there a way to query this column definition for a view, the way you can for a table? How do the GUI tools do it?

  • Should I pass a SqlDataReader by reference or not when passing it out to multiple threads.

    - by deroby
Hi all, being new to c# I've run into this 'conundrum' when passing around a SqlDataReader between different threads. Without going into too much detail, the idea is to have a main thread fetching data from the database (a large recordset) and then have a helper-task run through this record by record and doing some stuff based upon the contents of this. There is no feedback to the recordset, it simply wades through until no records are left. This works fine, but given the nature of the job at hand it should be possible to have this job spread over different threads (CPUs) to maximize throughput (the order of execution is of no significance). The question then becomes, when I pass this recordset in a SqlDataReader, do I have to use ref or not ? It kind of boils down to the question : if I pass the object around without specifying ref, won't it create new copies in memory and have records processed n times ? Or, don't I risk having the record-position being moved forward while not all fields have been fully read yet ? The latter seems more like a 'data racing' issue and probably is covered by the lock()ing mechanism (or not?). My initial take on the problem was that it doesn't really hurt passing the variable using ref, yet as a colleague put it : "you only need ref when you're doing something wrong" =) Additionally using ref restricts me from applying a Using() construction too which isn't very nice either. I thus create a "basic" project that tackles the same approach but without the ref notation. Tests so far show that it works flawlessly on a Core2Duo (2cpu) using any number of threads, yet I'm still a bit wary... What do you experts think about this ? Use ref or not ? You can find the test-project here as it seems I can't upload it to this question directly ?!? ps: it's just a test-project and I'm new to c#, so please be gentle on me when breaking down the code =P

  • Can I change class types in a setter with an object-oriented language?

    - by user214626
Hello, Here is the problem statement : Calling a setter on the object should result in the object to change to an object of a different class, which language can support this ? Ex. I have a class called "Man" (Parent Class), and two children namely "Toddler" and "Old Man", they are its children because they override a behaviour in Man called as walk.( i.e Toddler sometimes walks using both his hands and legs kneeled down and the Old man uses a stick to support himself). The Man class has a attribute called age, I have a setter on Man,say it is called setAge(int ageValue). I have 3 objects, 2 toddlers, 1 old-Man. (The system is up and running,i guess when we say objects it is obvious) .I will make this call, toddler.setAge(80), I expect the toddler to change to an object of type Old Man. Is this possible. Please suggest. Thanks,

  • Is it ok to return a reference of a function scope static variable?

    - by kartik
I wanted to know if that has any ill effects under any circumsatnce. For ex: Ex1: void* func1() { void* p_ref = NULL; //function scope static variable static int var1 = 2; p_ref = &var1; return p_ref; } Ex2: //file scope static variable static int var2 = 2; void* func2() { void* p_ref = NULL; var2 = 3; p_ref = &var2; return p_ref; } So in the above two cases what is the difference apart from the fact that var1 is function scope and var2 is file scope. Thanks in advance.

  • How do you compare using .NET types in an NHibernate ICriteria query for an ICompositeUserType?

    - by gabe
I have an answered StackOverflow question about how to combine to legacy CHAR database date and time fields into one .NET DateTime property in my POCO here (thanks much Berryl!). Now i am trying to get a custom ICritera query to work against that very DateTime property to no avail. here's my query: ICriteria criteria = Session.CreateCriteria<InputFileLog>() .Add(Expression.Gt(MembersOf<InputFileLog>.GetName(x => x.FileCreationDateTime), DateTime.Now.AddDays(-14))) .AddOrder(Order.Desc(Projections.Id())) .CreateCriteria(typeof(InputFile).Name) .Add(Expression.Eq(MembersOf<InputFile>.GetName(x => x.Id), inputFileName)); IList<InputFileLog> list = criteria.List<InputFileLog>(); And here's the query it's generating: SELECT this_.input_file_token as input1_9_2_, this_.file_creation_date as file2_9_2_, this_.file_creation_time as file3_9_2_, this_.approval_ind as approval4_9_2_, this_.file_id as file5_9_2_, this_.process_name as process6_9_2_, this_.process_status as process7_9_2_, this_.input_file_name as input8_9_2_, gonogo3_.input_file_token as input1_6_0_, gonogo3_.go_nogo_ind as go2_6_0_, inputfile1_.input_file_name as input1_3_1_, inputfile1_.src_code as src2_3_1_, inputfile1_.process_cat_code as process3_3_1_ FROM input_file_log this_ left outer join go_nogo gonogo3_ on this_.input_file_token=gonogo3_.input_file_token inner join input_file inputfile1_ on this_.input_file_name=inputfile1_.input_file_name WHERE this_.file_creation_date > :p0 and this_.file_creation_time > :p1 and inputfile1_.input_file_name = :p2 ORDER BY this_.input_file_token desc; :p0 = '20100401', :p1 = '15:15:27', :p2 = 'LMCONV_JR' The query is exactly what i would expect, actually, except it doesn't actually give me what i want (all the rows in the last 2 weeks) because in the DB it's doing a greater than comparison using CHARs instead of DATEs. I have no idea how to get the query to convert the CHAR values into a DATE in the query without doing a CreateSQLQuery(), which I would like to avoid. Anyone know how to do this?

  • How do I reference SSIS on a build machine without installing SQL Server 2008 Client Tools?

    - by freshr
I need to build SSIS packages on a build machine, and do not want the overhead of installing SQL Server Management Studio on this machine. A SQL Server 2008 SDK would be ideal, but I could not find where to download it. The dlls I require are (for example): Microsoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS Microsoft.SqlServer.PipelineHost Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap Microsoft.SQLServer.DTSRuntimeWrap I could attempt to copy them to the build machine individually, but I would rather just use an SDK if possible. Where can I get the SDK, or alternatively, what suggestions are there?

  • How to assign a value to an pointer-pointer passed in call by reference?

    - by mystify
I want to achieve something similar to what these guys do here: - (NSUInteger)countForFetchRequest:(NSFetchRequest *)request error:(NSError **)error like you can see, you pass an NSError pointer and that nice method will assign a real NSError object to your pointer in case there is an error. So the cool thing about this is, that the method returns an NSUInteger but can ALSO return an NSError, without having to mess around with ugly and fat arrays or dictionaries. So how could I assign an object to the passed-in error pointer?

  • How to reference a string from another package in a library using XML in Android?

    - by Garret Wilson
The Android documentation tells me that I can access a string from another package by using the "package name", whatever that means: @[<package_name>:]<resource_type>/<resource_name> So in my manifest I want to access a string that I've placed in a separate library project, in the com.globalmentor.android package---that's where my R class is, after all: <activity android:label="@com.globalmentor.android:string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> That doesn't even compile. But this does: <activity android:label="@string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> Why? What does the Android documentation mean which it talks about the "package_name"? Why doesn't the first example work, and why does the second example work? I don't want all my resource names merged into the same R file---I want them partitioned into packages, like I wrote them.

  • How can variadic char template arguments from user defined literals be converted back into numeric types?

    - by Pubby
This question is being asked because of this one. C++11 allows you to define literals like this for numeric literals: template<char...> OutputType operator "" _suffix(); Which means that 503_suffix would become <'5','0','3'> This is nice, although it isn't very useful in the form it's in. How can I transform this back into a numeric type? This would turn <'5','0','3'> into a constexpr 503. Additionally, it must also work on floating point literals. <'5','.','3> would turn into int 5 or float 5.3 A partial solution was found in the previous question, but it doesn't work on non-integers: template <typename t> constexpr t pow(t base, int exp) { return (exp > 0) ? base * pow(base, exp-1) : 1; }; template <char...> struct literal; template <> struct literal<> { static const unsigned int to_int = 0; }; template <char c, char ...cv> struct literal<c, cv...> { static const unsigned int to_int = (c - '0') * pow(10, sizeof...(cv)) + literal<cv...>::to_int; }; // use: literal<...>::to_int // literal<'1','.','5'>::to_int doesn't work // literal<'1','.','5'>::to_float not implemented

  • How should I return different types in a method based on the value of a string in Java?

    - by Siracuse
I'm new to Java and I have come to having the following problem: I have created several classes which all implement the interface "Parser". I have a JavaParser, PythonParser, CParser and finally a TextParser. I'm trying to write a method so it will take either a File or a String (representing a filename) and return the appropriate parser given the extension of the file. Here is some psuedo-code of what I'm basically attempting to do: public Parser getParser(String filename) { String extension = filename.substring(filename.lastIndexOf(".")); switch(extension) { case "py": return new PythonParser(); case "java": return new JavaParser(); case "c": return new CParser(); default: return new TextParser(); } } In general, is this the right way to handle this situation? Also, how should I handle the fact that Java doesn't allow switching on strings? Should I use the .hashcode() value of the strings? I feel like there is some design pattern or something for handling this but it eludes me. Is this how you would do it?

I want to set up some enums in one class like this: public enum Direction { north, east, south, west }; Then have that enum type accessible to all classes so that some other class could for instance have: Direction dir = north; and be able to pass the enum type between classes: public void changeDirection(Direction direction) { dir = direction; } I thought that setting the enum to public would make this automatically possible, but it doesn't seem to be visible outside of the class I declared the enum in.
