  • Detect Unicode Usage in SQL Column

One optimization you can make to a SQL table that is overly large is to change from nvarchar (or nchar) to varchar (or char).  Doing so will cut the size used by the data in half, from 2 bytes per character (+ 2 bytes of overhead for varchar) to only 1 byte per character.  However, you will lose the ability to store Unicode characters, such as those used by many non-English alphabets.  If the tables are storing user-input, and your application is or might one day be used internationally, its likely that using Unicode for your characters is a good thing.  However, if instead the data is being generated by your application itself or your development team (such as lookup data), and you can be certain that Unicode character sets are not required, then switching such columns to varchar/char can be an easy improvement to make. Avoid Premature Optimization If you are working with a lookup table that has a small number of rows, and is only ever referenced in the application by its numeric ID column, then you wont see any benefit to using varchar vs. nvarchar.  More generally, for small tables, you wont see any significant benefit.  Thus, if you have a general policy in place to use nvarchar/nchar because it offers more flexibility, do not take this post as a recommendation to go against this policy anywhere you can.  You really only want to act on measurable evidence that suggests that using Unicode is resulting in a problem, and that you wont lose anything by switching to varchar/char. Obviously the main reason to make this change is to reduce the amount of space required by each row.  This in turn affects how many rows SQL Server can page through at a time, and can also impact index size and how much disk I/O is required to respond to queries, etc.  If for example you have a table with 100 million records in it and this table has a column of type nchar(5), this column will use 5 * 2 = 10 bytes per row, and with 100M rows that works out to 10 bytes * 100 million = 1000 MBytes or 1GB.  If it turns out that this column only ever stores ASCII characters, then changing it to char(5) would reduce this to 5*1 = 5 bytes per row, and only 500MB.  Of course, if it turns out that it only ever stores the values true and false then you could go further and replace it with a bit data type which uses only 1 byte per row (100MB  total). Detecting Whether Unicode Is In Use So by now you think that you have a problem and that it might be alleviated by switching some columns from nvarchar/nchar to varchar/char but youre not sure whether youre currently using Unicode in these columns.  By definition, you should only be thinking about this for a column that has a lot of rows in it, since the benefits just arent there for a small table, so you cant just eyeball it and look for any non-ASCII characters.  Instead, you need a query.  Its actually very simple: SELECT DISTINCT(CategoryName)FROM CategoriesWHERE CategoryName <> CONVERT(varchar, CategoryName) Summary Gregg Stark for the tip. • Controlling soft errors and false alarms in SSIS

    - by Jim Giercyk
If you are like me, you dread the 3AM wake-up call.  I would say that the majority of the pages I get are false alarms.  The alerts that require action often require me to open an SSIS package, see where the trouble is and try to identify the offending data.  That can be very time-consuming and can take quite a chunk out of my beauty sleep.  For those reasons, I have developed a simple error handling scenario for SSIS which allows me to rest a little easier.  Let me first say, this is a high level discussion; getting into the nuts and bolts of creating each shape is outside the scope of this document, but if you have an average understanding of SSIS, you should have no problem following along. In the Data Flow above you can see that there is a caution triangle.  For the purpose of this discussion I am creating a truncation error to demonstrate the process, so this is to be expected.  The first thing we need to do is to redirect the error output.  Double-clicking on the Query shape presents us with the properties window for the input.  Simply set the columns that you want to redirect to Redirect Row in the dropdown box and hit Apply. Without going into a dissertation on error handling, I will just note that you can decide which errors you want to redirect on Error and on Truncation.  Therefore, to override this process for a column or condition, simply do not redirect that column or condition. The next thing we want to do is to add some information about the error; specifically, the name of the package which encountered the error and which step in the package wrote the record to the error table.  REMEMBER: If you redirect the error output, your package will not fail, so you will not know where the error record was created without some additional information.    I added 3 columns to my error record; Severity, Package Name and Step Name.  Severity is just a free-form column that you can use to note whether an error is fatal, whether the package is part of a test job and should be ignored, etc.  Package Name and Step Name are system variables. In my package I have created a truncation situation, where the firstname column is 50 characters in the input, but only 4 characters in the output.  Some records will pass without truncation, others will be sent to the error output.  However, the package will not fail. We can see that of the 14 input rows, 8 were redirected to the error table. This information can be used by another step or another scheduled process or triggered to determine whether an error should be sent.  It can also be used as a historical record of the errors that are encountered over time.  There are other system variables that might make more sense in your infrastructure, so try different things.  Date and time seem like something you would want in your output for example.  In summary, we have redirected the error output from an input, added derived columns with information about the errors, and inserted the information and the offending data into an error table.  The error table information can be used by another step or process to determine, based on the error information, what level alert must be sent.  This will eliminate false alarms, and give you a head start when a genuine error occurs.

  • Android layout issue - relative widths in percent using weight

    - by cdonner
    I am trying to assign relative widths to columns in a ListView that is in a TabHost, using layout_weight as suggested here: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@android:id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TabWidget android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <FrameLayout android:id="@android:id/tabcontent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TableLayout android:id="@+id/triplist" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:paddingTop="4px"> <TableRow> <ListView android:id="@+id/triplistview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </TableRow> <TableRow> <Button android:id="@+id/newtripbutton" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Add Trip"/> </TableRow> [other tabs ...] My row definition has 4 columns that I would like to size as follows: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:weightSum="1.0" android:padding="4px"> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowtripdate" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:inputType="date"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowodostart" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowodoend" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowcomment" android:layout_weight=".4" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> Unfortunately, it seems to want to fit all the columns into the space that the button occupies, as opposed to the width of the screen. Or maybe there is another constraint that I do not understand. I'd appreciate your help.

  • Cocoa equivalent of the Carbon method getPtrSize

    - by Michael Minerva
I need to translate the a carbon method into cocoa into and I am having trouble finding any documentation about what the carbon method getPtrSize really does. From the code I am translating it seems that it returns the byte representation of an image but that doesn't really match up with the name. Could someone give me a good explanation of this method or link me to some documentation that describes it. The code I am translating is in a common lisp implementation called MCL that has a bridge to carbon (I am translating into CCL which is a common lisp implementation with a Cocoa bridge). Here is the MCL code (#_before a method call means that it is a carbon method): (defmethod COPY-CONTENT-INTO ((Source inflatable-icon) (Destination inflatable-icon)) ;; check for size compatibility to avoid disaster (unless (and (= (rows Source) (rows Destination)) (= (columns Source) (columns Destination)) (= (#_getPtrSize (image Source)) (#_getPtrSize (image Destination)))) (error "cannot copy content of source into destination inflatable icon: incompatible sizes")) ;; given that they are the same size only copy content (setf (is-upright Destination) (is-upright Source)) (setf (height Destination) (height Source)) (setf (dz Destination) (dz Source)) (setf (surfaces Destination) (surfaces Source)) (setf (distance Destination) (distance Source)) ;; arrays (noise-map Source) ;; accessor makes array if needed (noise-map Destination) ;; ;; accessor makes array if needed (dotimes (Row (rows Source)) (dotimes (Column (columns Source)) (setf (aref (noise-map Destination) Row Column) (aref (noise-map Source) Row Column)) (setf (aref (altitudes Destination) Row Column) (aref (altitudes Source) Row Column)))) (setf (connectors Destination) (mapcar #'copy-instance (connectors Source))) (setf (visible-alpha-threshold Destination) (visible-alpha-threshold Source)) ;; copy Image: slow byte copy (dotimes (I (#_getPtrSize (image Source))) (%put-byte (image Destination) (%get-byte (image Source) i) i)) ;; flat texture optimization: do not copy texture-id -> destination should get its own texture id from OpenGL (setf (is-flat Destination) (is-flat Source)) ;; do not compile flat textures: the display list overhead slows things down by about 2x (setf (auto-compile Destination) (not (is-flat Source))) ;; to make change visible we have to reset the compiled flag (setf (is-compiled Destination) nil))

  • SPP Socket createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord will not connect

    - by philDev
Hello, I want to use Android 2.1 to connect to an external Bluetooth device, wich is offering an SPP port to me. In this case it is an external GPS unit. When I'm trying to connect I can't connect an established socket while being in the "client" mode. Then if I try to set up a socket (being in the server role), to RECEIVE text from my PC everything works just fine. The Computer can connect as the client to the Socket on the Phone via SPP using the SSP UUID or some random UUID. So the Problem is not that I'm using the wrong UUID. But the other way around (e.g. calling connect on the established client socket) createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID uuid)) just doesn't work. Sadly I don't have the time to inspect the problem further. It would be greate If somebody could point me the right way. In the following part of the Logfile has to be the Problem. Greets PhilDev P.S. I'm going to be present during the Office hours. • Help with SqlCeChangeTracking

    - by MusiGenesis
I'm trying to use a new class in SqlCe 3.5 SP2 called SqlCeChangeTracking. This class (allegedly) lets you turn on change tracking on a table, without using RDA replication or Sync Services. Assuming you have an open SqlCeConnection, you enable change tracking on a table like this: SqlCeChangeTracking tracker = new SqlCeChangeTracking(conn); tracker.EnableTracking(TableName, TrackingKeyType.PrimaryKey, TrackingOptions. All); This appears to work, sort of. When I open the SDF file and view it in SQL Server Management Studio, the table has three additional fields: __sysChangeTxBsn, __sysInsertTxBsn and __sysTrackingContext. According to the sparse documentation, these columns (along with the __sysOCSDeletedRows system table) are used to track changes. The problem is that these three columns always contain NULL values for all rows, no matter what I do. I can add, delete, edit etc. and those columns remain NULL no matter what (and no deleted records ever show up in __sysOCSDeletedRows). I have found virtually no documentation on this class at all, and the promised MSDN API appears non-existent. Anybody know how to use this class?

  • Extjs Dynamic Grid

    - by rkenshin
Hi, I'm trying to create a dynamic grid using Extjs. The grid is built and displayed when a click event is fired then an ajax request is sent to the server to fetch the columns, records and records definition a.k.a Store Fields. Each node could have different grid structure and that depends on the level of the node in the tree. The only way i came up with so far is function showGrid(response, request) { var jsonData = Ext.util.JSON.decode(response.responseText); var grid = Ext.getCmp('contentGrid'+request.params.owner); if(grid) { grid.destroy(); } var store = new Ext.data.ArrayStore({ id : 'arrayStore', fields : jsonData.recordFields, autoDestroy : true }); grid = new Ext.grid.GridPanel({ defaults: {sortable:true}, id:'contentGrid'+request.params.owner, store: store, columns: jsonData.columns, //width:540, //height:200, loadMask: true }); store.loadData(jsonData.records); if(Ext.getCmp('tab-'+request.params.owner)) { Ext.getCmp('tab-'+request.params.owner).show(); } else { grid.render('grid-div'); Ext.getCmp('card-tabs-panel').add({ id:'tab-'+request.params.owner, title: request.params.text, iconCls:'silk-tab', html:Ext.getDom('grid-div').innerHTML, closable:true }).show(); } } The function above is called when a click event is fired 'click': function(node) { Ext.Ajax.request({ url: 'showCtn', success: function(response, request) { alert('Success'); showGrid(response, request); }, failure: function(results, request) { alert('Error'); }, params: Ext.urlDecode(node.attributes.options); } The problem i'm getting with this code is that a new grid is displayed each time the showGrid function is called. The end user sees the old grids and the new one. To mitigate this problem, I tried destroying the grid and also removing the grid element on each request, and that seems to solve the problem only that records never get displayed this time. if(grid) { grid.destroy(true); } The behavior i'm looking for is to display the result of a grid within a tab and if that tab exists replaced the old grid. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

  • Multiple overlay items in android

I seem to be having a problem with using ItemizedOverlay and OveralyItems in it. I can get the first overlayItem to appear on the map but not any items after that. Code sample is on: http://www.anddev.org/multiple_overlay_items-t12171.html Quick overview here: public class Markers extends ItemizedOverlay { private Context ctx; private ArrayList<OverlayItem> mOverlays = new ArrayList<OverlayItem>(); public Markers(Drawable defaultMarker, Context cont) { super(boundCenterBottom(defaultMarker)); this.ctx = cont; // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } @Override protected OverlayItem createItem(int i) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return mOverlays.get(i); } @Override public boolean onTap(GeoPoint p, MapView mapView) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return super.onTap(p, mapView); } @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Toast.makeText(this.ctx, mOverlays.get(index).getTitle().toString()+", Latitude: "+mOverlays.get(index).getPoint().getLatitudeE6(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); return super.onTap(index); } @Override public int size() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return mOverlays.size(); } public void addOverlay(OverlayItem item) { mOverlays.add(item); setLastFocusedIndex(-1); populate(); } public void clear() { mOverlays.clear(); setLastFocusedIndex(-1); populate(); }} Markers usersMarker = new Markers(user, overview.this); GeoPoint p = new GeoPoint((int) (lat * 1E6),(int) (lon * 1E6)); OverlayItem item = new OverlayItem(p,userData[0],userData[3]); item.setMarker(this.user); usersMarker.addOverlay(item); The lines after the class are just samples of how it's used the first marker shows up on the map but if I add any more they don't show up? Is there a problem with the populate() method? I tried calling it manually after adding all markers but it still didn't help. Please, if you have any idea what could be wrong, say so.

  • Rails App hangs after few requests

    - by Paddy
I have Bitnami Rails stack installed on my Mac. To better explain my problem i created a simple scaffold based rails app with mysql as the backend. I can get to perform simple POST and GET requests for a while and after a few requests the app just hangs indefinitely. No exception caught or anything worthwhile in the development log to report this strange behavior. This is the last bit from the development log before the app froze: Processing WritedatasController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-30 20:38:51) [GET] [4;36;1mWritedata Load (0.7ms) [0m [0;1mSELECT * FROM `writedatas` [0m Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering writedatas/index [4;35;1mWritedata Columns (2.9ms) [0m [0mSHOW FIELDS FROM `writedatas` [0m Completed in 99ms (View: 88, DB: 4) | 200 OK [http://localhost/writedatas] [4;36;1mSQL (0.2ms) [0m [0;1mSET NAMES 'utf8' [0m [4;35;1mSQL (0.1ms) [0m [0mSET SQL_AUTO_IS_NULL=0 [0m Processing WritedatasController#new (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-30 20:38:52) [GET] [4;36;1mWritedata Columns (2.0ms) [0m [0;1mSHOW FIELDS FROM `writedatas` [0m Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering writedatas/new Rendered writedatas/_form (5.9ms) Completed in 34ms (View: 25, DB: 2) | 200 OK [http://localhost/writedatas/new] [4;36;1mSQL (0.4ms) [0m [0;1mSET NAMES 'utf8' [0m [4;35;1mSQL (0.1ms) [0m [0mSET SQL_AUTO_IS_NULL=0 [0m Processing WritedatasController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-30 20:39:17) [GET] [4;36;1mWritedata Load (0.7ms) [0m [0;1mSELECT * FROM `writedatas` [0m Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering writedatas/index [4;35;1mWritedata Columns (2.6ms) [0m [0mSHOW FIELDS FROM `writedatas` [0m Completed in 101ms (View: 90, DB: 4) | 200 OK [http://localhost/writedatas] It just hung at this point. And after this happens i have to restart the server, for it to hang again after few requests. This is the weirdest problem i have faced and i am truly stumped.

  • How to Global onRouteRequest directly to onBadRequest?

    - by virtualeyes
EDIT Came up with this to sanitize URI date params prior to passing off to Play router val ymdMatcher = "\\d{8}".r // matcher for yyyyMMdd URI param val ymdFormat = org.joda.time.format.DateTimeFormat.forPattern("yyyyMMdd") def ymd2Date(ymd: String) = ymdFormat.parseDateTime(ymd) override def onRouteRequest(r: RequestHeader): Option[Handler] = { import play.api.i18n.Messages ymdMatcher.findFirstIn(r.uri) map{ ymd=> try { ymd2Date( ymd); super.onRouteRequest(r) } catch { case e:Exception => // kick to "bad" action handler on invalid date Some(controllers.Application.bad(Messages("bad.date.format"))) } } getOrElse(super.onRouteRequest(r)) } ORIGINAL Let's say I want to return a BadRequest result type for all /foo URIs: override def onBadRequest(r: RequestHeader, error: String) = { BadRequest("Bad Request: " + error) } override def onRouteRequest(r: RequestHeader): Option[Handler] = { if(r.uri.startsWith("/foo") onBadRequest("go away") else super.onRouteRequest(r) } Of course does not work, since the expected return type is Option[play.api.mvc.Handler] What's the idiomatic way to deal with this, create a default Application controller method to handle filtered bad requests? Ideally, since I know in onRouteRequest that /foo is in fact a BadRequest, I'd like to call onBadRequest directly. Should note that this is a contrived example, am actually verifying a URI yyyyMMdd date param, and BadRequest-ing if it does not parse to a JodaTime instance -- basically a catch-all filter to sanitize a given date param rather than handling on every single controller method call, not to mention, avoiding cluttering up application log with useless stack traces re: invalid date parse conversions (have several MBs of these junk trace entries accruing daily due to users pointlessly manipulating the uri date in attempts to get at paid subscriber content)

  • Ruby on Rails export to csv - maintain mysql select statement order

    - by zekial
Exporting some data from mysql to a csv file using FasterCSV. I'd like the columns in the outputted CSV to be in the same order as the select statement in my query. Example: rows = Data.find( :all, :select=>'name, age, height, weight' ) headers = rows[0].attributes.keys FasterCSV.generate do |csv| csv << headers rows.each do |r| csv << r.attributes.values end end CSV Output: height, weight, name, age 74,212,bob,23 70,201,fred,24 . . . I want the CSV columns in the same order as my select statement. Obviously the attributes method is not going to work. Any ideas on the best way to ensure that the columns in my csv file will be in the same order as the select statement? Got a lot of data and performance is an issue. The select statement is not static. I realize I could loop through column names within the rows.each loop but it seems kinda dirty.

  • Crawler do not create custom crawled properties

    - by user173739
These days i have faced with very strange problem. I have development environment with MOSS 2007 SP 2 and WS 2008, i have search configured and everything works great. I have started to configuring staging environment (MOSS 2007 SP2 with June CU) and create new farm and new SSP. I have deployed my changes with package (wsp) and manually create site collections, sub webs, pages and so on. When fill crawl finishes, i see in Crawl log that all my pages have been successfully crawled and when i use some test tools to query search, my pages have been found. In crawl log there is few errors like http://mysite/sites/de/pages "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly..", but all pages in this Page library were indexed. The problem is that i use custom managed properties (mapped to custom crawled properties) in search queries, but crawler didn't create crawled properties for all my new site columns. For example for site column IsAccent the crawler didn't create cralwed property ows_isAccesnt. I'm sure that i have created pages for specific content type and all my crawl categories have checked "Automatically discover new properties when a crawl takes place ". In site settings - Searchable columns i haven't got any column selected as Nocrowl. I tried to export my managed and crawled properties from dev environment to stage evironment but all my managed properties were empty, after that i recreated SSP...the result was the same... I checked specific page with tools like Sharepoint Manager 2007 and U2U Caml Query Builder 2007 that content type is correct, and i can see values of my custom site collumns.... Using U2U Caml Query Builder 2007 agains some Page library in Result tab i can see ows_IsAccent (my site collumn is IsAccent) and others site columns, but i can't find them in Crawled properties. Any idias?

  • Submitting a multidimensional array via POST with php

    - by Fireflight
I have a php form that has a known number of columns (ex. top diameter, bottom diameter, fabric, colour, quantity), but has an unknown number of rows, as users can add rows as they need. I've discovered how to take each of the fields(columns) and place them into an array of their own. <input name="topdiameter['+current+']" type="text" id="topdiameter'+current+'" size="5" /> <input name="bottomdiameter['+current+']" type="text" id="bottomdiameter'+current+'" size="5" /> So what I end up with in the HTML is: <tr> <td><input name="topdiameter[0]" type="text" id="topdiameter0" size="5" /></td> <td><input name="bottomdiameter[0]" type="text" id="bottomdiameter0" size="5" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input name="topdiameter[1]" type="text" id="topdiameter0" size="5" /></td> <td><input name="bottomdiameter[1]" type="text" id="bottomdiameter0" size="5" /></td> </tr> ...and so on. What I would like to do now is take all the rows and columns put them into a multidimensional array and email the contents of that to the client (preferably in a nicely formatted table). I haven't been able to really comprehend how to combine all those inputs and selects into a nice array. At this point, I'm going to have to try to use several 1D arrays, although I have the idea that using a single 2D array would be a better practice than using several 1D arrays.

  • array retain question

    - by Cosizzle
Hello, im fairly new to objective-c, most of it is clear however when it comes to memory managment I fall a little short. Currently what my application does is during a NSURLConnection when the method -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection is called upon I enter a method to parse some data, put it into an array, and return that array. However I'm not sure if this is the best way to do so since I don't release the array from memory within the custom method (method1, see the attached code) Below is a small script to better show what im doing .h file #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface memoryRetainTestViewController : UIViewController { NSArray *mainArray; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *mainArray; @end .m file #import "memoryRetainTestViewController.h" @implementation memoryRetainTestViewController @synthesize mainArray; // this would be the parsing method -(NSArray*)method1 { // ???: by not release this, is that bad. Or does it get released with mainArray NSArray *newArray = [[NSArray alloc] init]; newArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"apple",@"orange", @"grapes", "peach", nil]; return newArray; } // this method is actually // -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection -(void)method2 { mainArray = [self method1]; } // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { mainArray = nil; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [mainArray release]; [super dealloc]; } @end

  • How to toggle a WPF Grid column visibility

    - by serialhobbyist
I'm having some trouble getting this to work in a WPF app I'm working on. Basically, what I'm after is something like the Task pane in an MMC: The app has three columns in the main part of the display. I need a column on the right side which is resizable. I presume this means using a Grid with a GridSplitter but anything that works will do. I want to be able to save the width of the right-side column when the app is closed and load it when the app is opened but this should be an initial size: the user should be able to resize it. When I resize the window, I want the left- and right-side columns to stay the same size and the middle column to resize with the window width. The left- and right-side columns need to have a minimum width. When I resize the right-side column I want the centre column to get smaller but not the left-side column. I also want to be able to toggle the visibility of the right-side column with a toggle button which is outside the column and when it returns to visibility I want it to be the same width it was before. I'm trying to do as much as possible in XAML and with binding. And can I have it topped with cream, ice cream and chocolate chips, please? :-)

  • drawing different quartz 2d

    - by Cosizzle
Hello, I'm trying to make a small application or demo thats a tab bar application. Each bar item loads in a new view. I've created a quartzView class that is called on by the controller: - (void)viewDidLoad { quartzView *drawingView = [[quartzView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,320,480)]; [self.view addSubview:drawingView]; [super viewDidLoad]; } From my understanding, the drawRect method must be triggered in order to render the object and to draw it. This is my quartzView class: #import "quartzView.h" @implementation quartzView #pragma mark shapes // Blue Circle - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { NSLog(@"Trying to draw..."); CGContextRef ctx = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); //get the current context CGContextClearRect(ctx, rect); //clear off the screen //draw a red square CGContextSetRGBFillColor(ctx, 255, 0, 0, 1); CGContextFillRect(ctx, CGRectMake(10, 10, 50, 50)); } // ==================================================================================================== #pragma mark - - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame]) { // Initialization code } return self; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end So how would I go about to say, if the view is view one, draw a square if it's view two draw a circle. And so on.

  • Don't Understand Sql Server Error

    - by Jonathan Wood
I have a table of users (User), and need to create a new table to track which users have referred other users. So, basically, I'm creating a many-to-many relation between rows in the same table. So I'm trying to create table UserReferrals with the columns UserId and UserReferredId. I made both columns a compound primary key. And both columns are foreign keys that link to User.UserID. Since deleting a user should also delete the relationship, I set both foreign keys to cascade deletes. When the user is deleted, any related rows in UserReferrals should also delete. But this gives me the message: 'User' table saved successfully 'UserReferrals' table Unable to create relationship 'FK_UserReferrals_User'. Introducing FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_UserReferrals_User' on table 'UserReferrals' may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths. Specify ON DELETE NO ACTION or ON UPDATE NO ACTION, or modify other FOREIGN KEY constraints. Could not create constraint. See previous errors. I don't get this error. A cascading delete only deletes the row with the foreign key, right? So how can it cause "cycling cascade paths"? Thanks for any tips.

  • Android - Views in Custom Compound Component are not inflated (findByView returns null)

    - by Julian Arz
I have made a Custom Component in XML, consisting of a button with an imageview stacked on top of it: <myapp.widget.ClearableCaptionedButton xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <Button android:id="@+id/ccbutton_button" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical|left" android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium" android:background="@android:drawable/edit_text"/> <ImageView android:id="@+id/ccbutton_clear" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginRight="5dip" android:layout_alignRight="@id/ccbutton_button" android:layout_alignTop="@id/ccbutton_button" android:layout_alignBottom="@id/ccbutton_button"/> </myapp.widget.ClearableCaptionedButton> extract of java source code: public class ClearableCaptionedButton extends RelativeLayout implements OnClickListener { ... public ClearableCaptionedButton(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); // some stuff that works fine } .. protected void onFinishInflate() { super.onFinishInflate(); mButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.ccbutton_button); mClear = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.ccbutton_clear); mButton.setText(""); // error here: mButton == null } My problem is similar to this one. When i try to find the views inside the custom compound, findViewById returns null. But, as you can see, i already added super(context, attrs); to the constructor. i am using the custom component directly in xml layout, like this: <LinearLayout> <!-- some stuff --> <de.pockettaxi.widget.ClearableCaptionedButton android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" app:caption="to"/> </LinearLayout> can anybody spot something? thanks.

  • Strange UIKit bug, table view row stays selected

    - by Can Berk Güder
I'm facing what appears to be a UIKit bug, and it takes the combination of two less commonly used features to reproduce it, so please bear with me here. I have quite the common view hierarchy: UITabBarController -> UINavigationController -> UITableViewController and the table view controller pushes another table view controller onto the navigation controller's stack when a row is selected. There's absolutely nothing special or fancy in the code here. However, the second UITableViewController, the "detail view controller" if you will, does two things: It sets hidesBottomBarWhenPushed to YES in its init method, so the tab bar is hidden when this controller is pushed: - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewStyle)style { if(self = [super initWithStyle:style]) { self.hidesBottomBarWhenPushed = YES; } return self; } It calls setToolbarHidden:NO animated:YES and setToolbarHidden:YES animated:YES on self.navigationController in viewWillAppear: and viewWillDisappear: respectively, causing the UIToolbar provided by UINavigationController to be displayed and hidden with animations: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:NO animated:YES]; } - (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillDisappear:animated]; [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:YES animated:YES]; } Now, if the second UITableViewController was pushed by selecting the row at the bottom of the screen (it doesn't have to be the last row) in the first controller, this row does not automatically get deselected when the user immediately or eventually returns to the first controller. Further, the row cannot be deselected by calling deselectRowAtIndexPath:animated: on self.tableView in viewWillAppear: or viewDidAppear: in the first controller. I'm guessing this is a bug in UITableViewController's drawing code which of course only draws visible rows, but unfortunately fails to determine correctly if the bottommost row will be visible in this case. I failed to find anything on this on Google or OpenRadar, and was wondering if anyone else on SO had this problem or knew a solution/workaround.

  • My SqlComand on SSIS - DataFlow OLE DB Command seems not works

    - by Angel Escobedo
Hello Im using OLE DB Source for get rows from a dBase IV file and it works, then I split the data and perform a group by with aggregate component. So I obtain a row with two columns with "null" value : CompanyID | CompanyName | SubTotal | Tax | TotalRevenue Null Null 145487 27642.53 173129.53 this success because all rows have been grouped with out taking care about the firsts columns and just Summing the valuable columns, so I need to change that null for default values as CompanyID = "100000000" and CompanyName = "Others". I try use SqlCommand on a OLE DB Command Component : SELECT "10000000" AS RUCCLI , "Otros - Varios" AS RAZCLI FROM RGVCAFAC <property id="1505" name="SqlCommand" dataType="System.String" state="default" isArray="false" description="The SQL command to be executed." typeConverter="" UITypeEditor="Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Controls.ModalMultilineStringEditor, Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Controls, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91" containsID="false" expressionType="Notify">SELECT "10000000" AS RUCCLI , "Otros - Varios" AS RAZCLI FROM RGVCAFAC</property> but nothings happens, why? and finally the task finish when the data is inserted on a SQL Server Table. • Getting gridview column value as parameter for javascript function

    - by newName
I have a gridview with certain number of columns and the ID column where I want to get the value from is currently set to visible = false. • WPF - Byte Array to Hex View (similar to Notepad++ HEX-Editor plugin)

    - by tenfour
    I am using an ItemsControl to display a List<byte> in hex. The ItemsPanelTemplate is a UniformGrid with a fixed number of columns: <ItemsControl HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding}"> <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <UniformGrid Columns="16"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="{Binding StringFormat='\{0:X2\}'}" Margin="5,5,5,0"/> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> I'd like to prefix each row with an 'Address' column, just like you'd see with the Notepad++ 'HEX-Editor' plugin. That is, since I have 16 columns, each row should be prefixed something like this: 0000 [00 01 02 .... 0F] 0010 [10 11 12 .... 1F] 0020 [20 21 22 .... 2F] ... Any suggestions?
