• Creating an invisible button in Java Swing

  Hello, I have seen many times on Java Swing GUIs buttons that look like images until the mouse rolls over them. They appear to not have their content area filled. When the mouse rolls over them, the content area fills in but the button looks as though the mouse is not hovering over it. An example of this would be the toolbar of buttons used to activate each demo in SwingSet2. How is this effect possible? Thanks!

  Apologies for any coding ignorance, I am a beginner and am still learning! I am creating a quiz app which reads questions off a SQL database and plots them as points on a google map. As the user clicks each point, an alert dialog appears with radio buttons to answer some question. My radiobuttons are in CustomItemizedOverlay file and when I click submit, I want to be able to send the user choice back to the database, save it and return to the user if their answer is correct. My question is this, how do I pass the user choice out once the submit button has been clicked? I tried making a global variable to read what was selected to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated!   So in an app I'm messing around with I programmatically create some buttons. Then I setContentView(); to a different page. Then if I come back to the original page (on which I placed the programmatically created buttons), they no longer exist. I guess this makes sense as I am calling setContentView(R.layout.main); again which is just the original xml file with no data pointing to the buttons. So is there a way to have the buttons persist over such screen transitions? Thanks.

I have movieclips that I scale up slightly on rollover, but if you hover over the edge of the movieclip it just sits there and flickers, continuously receiving mouseOver and mouseOut events.   I have a View in which the user is able to upload a file to the server. In this view I also have 2 buttons: one to Upload a file and other to Download the last file imported. In my Controller I created 2 action methods: Import and Export. How could I manage to redirect each button click to the proper action method in my Controller? I have tried Html.ActionLink: <%= Html.ActionLink("Upload", "Import", "OracleFile")%> <%= Html.ActionLink("Download", "Export", "OracleFile")%> Html.ActionLink didn't do the trick. The action links were taking me to the right Action methods but they were generating a GET request. This way Request.Files.Count = 0. I need a POST request.

  If I have a DataGrid in a XAML form, and add the following style: <Style TargetType="Button"> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="2"/> </Style> The data grid locks up the application. I found if I put the style into a resource block that isn't seen by any data grid, then it seems to be happy. However, if I want to have the style above applied to all buttons on my window, I have to put it in various resource blocks that cannot be seen by the data grid. Is there any way to avoid this?

• Aligning Android Button To Bottom in RelativeLayout??

  I'm trying to align a button to the bottom right and bottom left of my screen, using a RelativeLayout. I want to do this to keep the same relative layout across different screen sizes. Currently the buttons on my screen move up/down depending on the resolution of the screen. 320x480 puts the buttons higher on the screen versus 480x800. • Using PHP to display button with hyperlink or greyed out button if no URL in database

  I've got a webpage that I'm working on where you click on a letter or category and it displays records matching that query from a database. One of the things I want to display is a hyperlinked button that says "Website" if the database record contains a URL in the 'URL' field, and if there is no value in that field, it will display a greyed out version of that button. I tried using an if...else statement, but was absolutely unable to get the syntax correct trying to get php to call up the 'URL' value in the middle of an "echo " So here's what I did: <?php if($row_rsmemalpha['URL'] != NULL) ?><a href="http://<?php echo ($row_rsmemalpha['URL']);?>"><target ="_blank"><img src="web_button_on.gif" alt="Website" border="0" height="18" width="103" /></target></a> <?php if($row_rsmemalpha['URL'] == NULL) echo "<img src=\"web_button_off.gif\" alt=\"No Website Available\" height=\"18\" width=\"103\" />"; ?> If there is a URL available it shows the button properly. The buttons were completely non-functional when I started, so I'm pretty proud of getting this far with it! I've just run out of time and patience for more trial-and-error experimenting. • Should I choose <button> element or css buttons?

  Ok, here's the thing. I've done a webpage which contains forms and so I added buttons as elements and this works great. I created their own css classes and use graphics as background images for each of them. All working great (these are submit buttons btw) Anyway, I've also got a jQuery script from before that takes all a href hyperlinks and add content from a set div from an external file and adds to a div in my current page, all in one animation. But this would probably not work with form buttons? In any case I need to be able to have these buttons work as traditional hyperlinks anyway. So what do I do? I thought about using css-buttons alltogether, but I'm not able to have them stack vertically. Using float left or right just put the buttons outside of their parent containers (probably a different fix for that). But in any case, using css buttons, that wouldn't work as a submit button for the forms anyway would it? Should I perhaps use both form buttons and css buttons? What do you do?

  I'm trying to make two custom buttons in code. One that fills the full screen with a small button on top. The problem I'm having is the larger button is triggered when the smaller button is tapped. I've tried doing exactly the same thing with IB and it works. Is there some sort of trapping/masking method that I need to use with code? • How do you convince the client their application's backend needs a rewrite?

  I have been supporting a LOB winforms application for a client the last 3 years. The application is built with a simple monolithic architecture and uses .NET 2.0. The application is a core part of their operations and its longevity is paramount. It needs to evolve with their evolving business processes, as well as implement improved functionality etc....this brings me to believe that this application needs an overhaul of sorts on the back-end. The problem is changing a back-end is "invisible"...i.e. the user never actually sees it. It's a quality of the system that is changing (stability, maintainability, reliability, longevity), not some functional requirement that will be easily seen...i.e. the ROI is not obvious. There is a lot of new functionality to be added to the front-end as well (user experience). I am considering a strategy of changing the back-end over time...i.e. when making a change or adding a feature to the front-end, change those components in the back-end that are affected, eventually you get to everything. How do I convince the client that we need to rebuild the back-end?
