  • 2D Image Creator for a video game

    - by user1276078
I need to make a few images for an arcade video game I'm making in Java. As of right now, I have drawings that animate, but there are two problems. The drawings are horrible, and as a result, the game won't get enough attention. It's a pain to have to change each coordinate for the drawing, as the drawings are fairly complex. I'd like to use images. I feel they could solve my problem. They would look better than the drawings, and it would only have an x and a y coordinate, rather than the many coordinates I need for each drawing. So, in a sense, I have two questions. Would images actually help? Would they solve my 2 problems? I just want to clarify. How would I make these images. I don't think I can copy them off of the internet because I plan on publishing this game. So, is there any software where you can make your own images? (It has to be in an image type that Java can support. I'm working with java). It also, as stated by the header, needs to be a 2D image; not 3D

  • How to find about structure of bitmap and JPEG files?

    - by Sorush Rabiee
I'm trying to write a very simple image processing program for fun and practice. I was using System.Drawing. ... .Bitmap class to handle images and edit their data. but now I want to write my own class of Bitmap object implementation and want to know how bmp files (and other common bitmap formats) and their meta-data (indexing, color system & etc) are stored in files, and how to read and write them directly?

  • Face morph and recognition

    - by startuper
I have two requirements: members of a social network choose other member's faces and morph an average face of them. The website finds other members' faces that resemble the morphed face and list up in order of resemblance. Is there a script that can do this? I see that http://www.faceresearch.org/demos/average does the item 1 but they don't license their technology. Please help. Thank you in advance.

  • Any simple shape recognition libraries for Java?

    - by Phil
I am working on a on-screen keyboard for Android, and I need to recognize starting points, turning points and end points of lines drawn by the user on the keyboard. A simple straightening function would be nice, as it is difficult to draw a perfectly straight line even with a stylus, not to mention finger-only touchscreens today. What I am trying to write is something like Swype. Any good libraries that I can use or make reference to?

  • jQuery image preload/cache halting browser

    - by Nathan Loding
In short, I have a very large photo gallery and I'm trying to cache as many of the thumbnail images as I can when the first page loads. There could be 1000+ thumbnails. First question -- is it stupid to try to preload/cache that many? Second question -- when the preload() function fires, the entire browser stops responding for a minute to two. At which time the callback fires, so the preload is complete. Is there a way to accomplish "smart preloading" that doesn't impede on the user experience/speed when attempting to load this many objects? The $.preLoadImages function is take from here: http://binarykitten.me.uk/dev/jq-plugins/107-jquery-image-preloader-plus-callbacks.html Here's how I'm implementing it: $(document).ready(function() { setTimeout("preload()", 5000); }); function preload() { var images = ['image1.jpg', ... 'image1000.jpg']; $.preLoadImages(images, function() { alert('done'); }); } 1000 images is a lot. Am I asking too much?

  • resize image without image quality reduction

    - by ali
In web design , it's usually needed to design an image for example in Photoshop and then use multiple sizes of it. but I don't understand something here : When I resize the image (PNG or JPG) and reduce the dimensions of that in Photoshop , the image quality extremely gets reduced and the edges become messy while resizing the image in a simple software like Microsoft Paint gives a really better output! So what's the reason ? Is there a trick in Photoshop for image resizing which I've missed? Thanks for your help. UPDATE: I resize in this way : image image size , then enter new dimensions , all of checkboxes are checked , and have tried all of resample modes including Bicubic sharper

  • Speech Recognition Server Does Not Stay Open

    - by Waffle
I am trying to create a simple program that loops for user speech input using com.apple.speech.recognitionserver. My code thus far is as follows: set user_response to "start" repeat while user_response is not equal to "Exit" tell application id "com.apple.speech.recognitionserver" set user_response to listen for {"Time", "Weather", "Exit"} with prompt "Good Morning" end tell if user_response = "Time" then set curr_time to time string of (the current date) set curr_day to weekday of (the current date) say "It is" say curr_time say "on" say curr_day say "day" else if user_response = "Weather" then say "It is hot outside. What do you expect?" end if end repeat say "Have a good day" If the above is run on my system it says good morning and it then pops up with the speech input system and waits for either Time, Weather, or Exit. They all do what they say they are going to do, but instead of looping if I say Time and Weather and asking again until I say exit the speechserver times out and never pops up again. Is there a way of either keeping that application open until the program ends or is applescript not capable of looping for user speech input?

  • .NET Speech recognition plugin Runtime Error: Unhandled Exception. What could possibly cause it?

    - by manuel
I'm writing a plugin (dll file) for speech recognition, and I'm creating a WinForm as its interface/dialog. • Improve my php image resizer to support alpha png and transparent GIFs

    - by David
    Hi, I use this function to resize images but i end up with ugly creepy image with a black background if it's a transparent GIF or PNG with alpha, however it works perfectly for jpg and normal png. function cropImage($nw, $nh, $source, $stype, $dest) { $size = getimagesize($source); $w = $size[0]; $h = $size[1]; switch($stype) { case 'gif': $simg = imagecreatefromgif($source); break; case 'jpg': $simg = imagecreatefromjpeg($source); break; case 'png': $simg = imagecreatefrompng($source); break; } $dimg = imagecreatetruecolor($nw, $nh); switch ($stype) { case "png": imagealphablending( $dimg, false ); imagesavealpha( $dimg, true ); $transparent = imagecolorallocatealpha($dimg, 255, 255, 255, 127); imagefilledrectangle($dimg, 0, 0, $nw, $nh, $transparent); break; case "gif": // integer representation of the color black (rgb: 0,0,0) $background = imagecolorallocate($simg, 0, 0, 0); // removing the black from the placeholder imagecolortransparent($simg, $background); break; } $wm = $w/$nw; $hm = $h/$nh; $h_height = $nh/2; $w_height = $nw/2; if($w> $h) { $adjusted_width = $w / $hm; $half_width = $adjusted_width / 2; $int_width = $half_width - $w_height; imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,-$int_width,0,0,0,$adjusted_width,$nh,$w,$h); } elseif(($w <$h) || ($w == $h)) { $adjusted_height = $h / $wm; $half_height = $adjusted_height / 2; $int_height = $half_height - $h_height; imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,0,-$int_height,0,0,$nw,$adjusted_height,$w,$h); } else { imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,0,0,0,0,$nw,$nh,$w,$h); } imagejpeg($dimg,$dest,100); } I use php 5.3.2 and the GD library bundled (2.0.34 compatible) Thanks

  • Updating a backup image (.wim and/or Acronis .tib)

    - by Backdraft
Anyways, I've got a Windows 7 installation that I want to make a generalized backup image of so I can use it for future installs on not only my desktop from which the image is to be derived from, but also other systems with dissimilar hardware. Therefore I've arrived at either 2 options, using either sysprep/imagx from WAIK (guide here), or the simpler Acronis True Image w/ their Universal Restore addon. Of course, they create distinct image file types, .wim and .tib respectively. What I'd like to do is to periodically update this image, say with Windows Updates, by booting it to either a physical partition or using virtualization (VirtualBox/VMWare), perform the updates, and save the updated .wim or .tib image file again. What's the simplest way I could do this? Another question is, I created this generalized backup image on a 500GB Seagate 7200RPM HDD. Say I get an SSD as an OS drive in the future, can I just deploy this backup image to the SSD normally, or are there any potential problems to be aware/avoid (ie. is it best to completely reinstall the OS on the SSD from scratch, or can I use the image created on the normal HDD with no issue)? Thanks and Happy Holidays.

  • Image hotlinking providers?

    - by Josh
I use a lot of images in my wordpress and due to hosting restrictions I need to host the images somewhere else and hotlink them in my blog posts. So I am looking for some reliable image host which provides free hotlinking service. The Google Picasa would be best, but I think they do not allow hotlinking. PS. I'm not looking for hosts like tinypic or imgshack, I'm looking for some websites which provides powerful features to oranize images (eg. albums etc).

  • Rotate and Save Image - C#

    - by Taylor
    Hello, I'm trying to rotate and save an image, along with returning a BitmapSource. I pass in the rotation value (90 or -90) and the full path to the image I want to rotate to the method shown here. It works fine if I start and stop my application between calling this method. however, if the application calls rotate multiple times the rotate only happens once. I know the original image must be cached in memory, because if I pass values 90, 180, 270 I see the rotations work. I want to be able to pass in a value of 90 or -90 and have that rotate and save the original image. How can I make the rotate work for each call? Is there a way to clear the cached value of the image? If I don't set the BitmapCacheOption to OnLoad, I am unable to transform and save the image since the image is "being used by another process". public BitmapImage Rotate(int val, string path) { //create a new image from existing file. Image image = new Image(); BitmapImage logo = new BitmapImage(); logo.BeginInit(); logo.CacheOption = BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad; logo.UriSource = new Uri(path); logo.EndInit(); image.Source = logo; BitmapSource img = (BitmapSource)(image.Source); //rotate image and save CachedBitmap cache = new CachedBitmap(img, BitmapCreateOptions.None, BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad); TransformedBitmap tb = new TransformedBitmap(cache, new RotateTransform(val)); TiffBitmapEncoder encoder = new TiffBitmapEncoder(); encoder.Frames.Add(BitmapFrame.Create(tb)); using (FileStream file = File.OpenWrite(path)) { encoder.Save(file); } //update page view BitmapImage bi = new BitmapImage(); bi.BeginInit(); bi.CacheOption = BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad; bi.UriSource = new Uri(path); bi.EndInit(); return bi; }

  • Need help using libpng to read an image

    - by jonathanasdf
Here is my function... I don't know why it's not working. The resulting image looks nothing like what the .png looks like. Here is my function... I don't know why it's not working. The resulting image looks nothing like what the .png looks like. • "image contains error", trying to create and display images using google app engine

Hello all the general idea is to create a galaxy-like map. I run into problems when I try to display a generated image. I used Python Image library to create the image and store it in the datastore. when i try to load the image i get no error on the log console and no image on the browser. when i copy/paste the image link (including datastore key) i get a black screen and the following message: The image “view-source:/localhost:8080/img?img_id=ag5kZXZ-c3BhY2VzaW0xMnINCxIHTWFpbk1hcBgeDA” cannot be displayed because it contains errors. the firefox error console: Error: Image corrupt or truncated: /localhost:8080/img?img_id=ag5kZXZ-c3BhY2VzaW0xMnINCxIHTWFpbk1hcBgeDA import cgi import datetime import urllib import webapp2 import jinja2 import os import math import sys from google.appengine.ext import db from google.appengine.api import users from PIL import Image #SNIP #class to define the map entity class MainMap(db.Model): defaultmap = db.BlobProperty(default=None) #SNIP class Generator(webapp2.RequestHandler): def post(self): #SNIP test = Image.new("RGBA",(100, 100)) dMap=MainMap() dMap.defaultmap = db.Blob(str(test)) dMap.put() #SNIP result = db.GqlQuery("SELECT * FROM MainMap LIMIT 1").fetch(1) if result: print"item found<br>" #debug info if result[0].defaultmap: print"defaultmap found<br>" #debug info string = "<div><img src='/img?img_id=" + str(result[0].key()) + "' width='100' height='100'></img>" print string else: print"nothing found<br>" else: self.redirect('/?=error') self.redirect('/') class Image_load(webapp2.RequestHandler): def get(self): self.response.out.write("started Image load") defaultmap = db.get(self.request.get("img_id")) if defaultmap.defaultmap: try: self.response.headers['Content-Type'] = "image/png" self.response.out.write(defaultmap.defaultmap) self.response.out.write("Image found") except: print "Unexpected error:", sys.exc_info()[0] else: self.response.out.write("No image") #SNIP app = webapp2.WSGIApplication([('/', MainPage), ('/generator', Generator), ('/img', Image_load)], debug=True) the browser shows the "item found" and "defaultmap found" strings and a broken imagelink the exception handling does not catch any errors Thanks for your help Regards Bert

  • How to make HTML5 speech recognition not ask permission every time

    - by user2081044
I have created a script that requires my microphone. It uses the HTML5 speech recognition API. Chrome asks permission every time I want to perform a speech recognition test. Javascript (partial) code that I am using: var recognition = new webkitSpeechRecognition(); recognition.continuous = true; recognition.interimResults = true; recognition.onresult = function(event) { console.log(event.results[0][0].transcript); if(event.results[0][0].transcript === 'print') { console.log(''); } }; recognition.start(); I have tried to add it into the list of exceptions in either Chrome and Flash player, but it still asks for permission. Printscreen: That message pops up everytime I click the button. Is there any way to disable Chrome for asking permission?

  • Speech Recognition

    - by DesigningCode
Today I was asked to write a wee application for someone so that they could turn pages on their ebooks without having to reach for their keyboard or mouse… that way they could do craft or knit or whatever they are doing while they are reading. I vaguely remember that windows has something built in, but have never really played with it before.   I have in the past turned on the screen reader and impressed my kids by making the computer saying “amusing” phrases along the lines of “Zac has a smelly bum”. So instead of firing up Visual Studio and getting stuck into the juciy task of writing a speech recognition program…. I typed “speech recognition” into the start menu of my windows 7 computer.   And wow!  I’ve been playing with it for the last 40 minutes or so and have been most impressed.   Dictation wise it certainly misses stuff or gets the wrong words, but I did the training and it certainly improved. But what I’m enjoying is controlling windows. for instance, to start this blog entry  I said “Open Writer”  and it worked no problem.    In fact after I muddled my way through getting going with speech recognition I enjoyed saying “Open notepad” … “close”  over and over again. It allows you to click anywhere on the screen, just say “mousegrid”   and a 1-9 numbered grid comes up,  say a number and it puts a smaller 1-9 numbered grid, and you hone in, till the middle square is on a place you want to click, then you say “click” or “double click”.  if you want to enter a key, say “Press Tab”  for example.   inside programs it understands menu entries.  In fact, while writing this I just said “File”  “Save” and it happily saved. I think I will play around with this for a while more and try it out in visual studio.   Might be quite good for being able to do menu entries instead of grabbing for my mouse…. can keep my hands on the keyboard. ok, wasn’t the first post I wanted to do on geeks with blogs! but hey…   will do some techy posts soon.

  • Oracle ERP Cloud Solution Defines Revenue Recognition Software Market

    - by Steve Dalton
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Revenue is a fundamental yardstick of a company's performance, and one of the most important metrics for investors in the capital markets. So it’s no surprise that the accounting standard boards have devoted significant resources to this topic, with a key goal of ensuring that companies use a consistent method of recognizing revenue. Due to the myriad of revenue-generating transactions, and the divergent ways organizations recognize revenue today, the IFRS and FASB have been working for 12 years on a common set of accounting standards that apply to all industries in virtually all countries. Through their joint efforts on May 28, 2014 the FASB and IFRS released the IFRS 15 / ASU 2014-9 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) converged accounting standard. This standard applies to revenue in all public companies, but heavily impacts organizations in any industry that might have complex sales contracts with multiple distinct deliverables (obligations). For example, an auto dealer who bundles free service with the sale of a car can only recognize the service revenue once the owner of the car brings it in for work. Similarly, high-tech companies that bundle software licenses, consulting, and support services on a sales contract will recognize bundled service revenue once the services are delivered. Now all companies need to review their revenue for hidden bundling and implicit obligations. Numerous time-consuming and judgmental activities must be performed to properly recognize revenue for complex sales contracts. To illustrate, after the contract is identified, organizations must identify and examine the distinct deliverables, determine the estimated selling price (ESP) for each deliverable, then allocate the total contract price to each deliverable based on the ESPs. In terms of accounting, organizations must determine whether the goods or services have been delivered or performed to the customer’s satisfaction, then either book revenue in the current period or record a liability for the obligation if revenue will be recognized in a future accounting period. Oracle Revenue Management Cloud was architected and developed so organizations can simplify and streamline revenue recognition. Among other capabilities, the solution uses business rules to efficiently identify and examine contracts, intelligently calculate and allocate deliverable prices based on prescribed inputs, and accurately recognize revenue for each deliverable based on customer satisfaction. "Oracle works very closely with our customers, the Big 4 accounting firms, and the accounting standard boards to deliver an adaptive, comprehensive, new generation revenue recognition solution,” said Rondy Ng, Senior Vice President, Applications Development. “With the recently announced IFRS 15 / ASU 2014-9, Oracle is ready to support customer adoption of the new standard with our Revenue Management Cloud,” said Rondy.
