  • How do I create custom Controls for my VS2005 toolbox?

    - by end-user
    Ok, this question might more about design theory. I have successfully created controls that show up in my toolbox, so I'm pretty sure I have the process right. Also, my "AutoToolboxPopulate" is set to true, so things are showing up as I create them. My question is this: I'm sub-classing a native Control for specialized use. When I derive my class from an exposed concrete class, such as BulletedList, my custom Control appears in my Toolbox. However, when I drop it back to the parent, such as ListControl, my Control is not listed (actually it's grayed out when I "List All"). What am I missing?

  • How to avoid "incomplete implementation" warning in partial base class

    - by garph0
    I have created a protocol that my classes need to implement, and then factored out some common functionality into a base class, so I did this: @protocol MyProtocol - (void) foo; - (void) bar; @end @interface Base <MyProtocol> @end @interface Derived_1 : Base @end @interface Derived_2 : Base @end @implementation Base - (void) foo{ //something foo } @end @implementation Derived_1 - (void) bar{ //something bar 1 } @end @implementation Derived_2 - (void) bar{ //something bar 2 } @end In this way in my code I use a generic id<MyProtocol>. The code works (as long as Base is not used directly) but the compiler chokes at the end of the implementation of Base with a warning: Incomplete implementation of class Base Is there a way to avoid this warning or, even better, a more proper way to obtain this partially implemented abstract base class behavior in Objc?

  • How can I declare classes that refer to each other?

    - by Without me Its just Aweso
    It's been a long time since I've done C++ and I'm running into some trouble with classes referencing each other. Right now I have something like: a.h class a { public: a(); bool skeletonfunc(b temp); }; b.h class b { public: b(); bool skeletonfunc(a temp); }; Since each one needs a reference to the other, I've found I can't do a #include of each other at the top or I end up in a weird loop of sorts with the includes. So how can I make it so that a can use b and vice versa without making a cyclical #include problem? thanks!

  • Best way to implement a data structure in PHP ?

    - by Double Gras
    Hi, I want to use some kind of data structure in PHP (5.2), mainly in order to not pollute the global namespace. I think about two approaches, using an array or a class. Could you tell me which approach is better ? Thanks $SQL_PARAMETERS = array ( 'server' => '127.0.0.1', 'login' => 'root'); class SqlParameters { const SERVER = '127.0.0.1'; const LOGIN = 'root'; } echo $SQL_PARAMETERS['server']; echo SqlParameters::SERVER;

  • How do I reload servlet classes without restarting my web application?

    - by Ramon
    I want to reload just my web layer classes without reloading my service layer classes (which take longer to initialize and change less frequently). There are no references from my service layer into the web layer and I can create a whole new instance of the web layer without problems. I can conceive of a solution involving complicated class-loader tricks to isolate the web layer in its own class-loader and I think this is probably the only way to do this so what I'm asking is, is there a library out there which does this? I know about JavaRebel - I don't need that much power and I'm really looking for a more lightweight free solution.

  • Please explain class methods

    - by user1209902
    I'm finding it difficult to understand when it is necessary to create class methods. From what I've read, they are important for creating new objects, but I do not see how. The following class create a simple shape black rectangle. Can anyone show me how to incorporate a class method to do something that I could not do with an instance method? Shape.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface Shape : UIView; - (id) initWithX: (int)xVal andY: (int)yVal; @end Shape.m #import "Shape.h" @implementation Shape - (id) initWithX:(int )xVal andY:(int)yVal { self = [super init]; UIView *shape = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(xVal, yVal, 10, 10)]; shape.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; [self addSubview:shape]; return self; } @end

  • Could/Should I use static classes in asp.net/c# for shared data?

    - by death.au
    Here's the situation I have: I'm building an online system to be used by school groups. Only one school can log into the system at any one time, and from that school you'll get about 13 users. They then proceed into a educational application in which they have to co-operate to complete tasks, and from a code point of view, sharing variables all over the place. I was thinking, if I set up a static class with static properties that hold the variables that are required to be shared, this could save me having to store/access the variables in/from a database, as long as the static variables are all properly initialized when the application starts and cleaned up at the end. Of course I would also have to put locks on the get and set methods to make the variables thread safe. Something in the back of my mind is telling me this might be a terrible way of going about things, but I'm not sure exactly why, so if people could give me their thoughts for or against using a static class in this situation, I would be quite appreciative.

  • Nested Dynamic PHP Class

    - by user338844
    Alright, I may just need a terminology update, but I have been playing in Magento and Joomla, and they do references like $mage = new Mage; $mage->block('blockname'); where class Mage through some process I am failing to figure out is calling: class blockname extends something{ } Don't quote me on that code, however I am looking to do something like that where I have a file that I can do $myscript-block('blockname'); and it will load and call the file with class blockname. I hope that is not too confusing, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Assigning two strings together getting Access Read Violation

    - by Jay Bell
    I am trying to pass a string to a class mutator and set the private member to that string here is the code that is sending the string void parseTradePairs(Exchange::Currency *curr, std::string *response, int begin, int exit) { int start; int end; string temp; string dataResponse; CURL *tempCurl; initializeCurl(tempCurl); int location = response->find("marketid", begin); if(location <= exit) { start = location + 11; begin = response->find("label", start); end = begin - start - 3; findStrings(start, end, temp, response); getMarketInfo(tempCurl, temp, dataResponse); curr->_coin->setExch(temp); // here is the line of code that is sending the string dataResponse >> *(curr->_coin); curr->_next = new Exchange::Currency(curr, curr->_position + 1); parseTradePairs(curr->_next, response, begin, exit); } } and here is the mutator within the coin class that is receiving the string and assigning it to _exch void Coin::setExch(string exch) { _exch = exch; } I have stepped through it and made sure that exch has the string in it. "105" but soon as it hits _exch = exch; I get the reading violation. I tried passing as pointer as well. I do not believe it should go out of scope. and the string variable in the class is initialized to zero in the default constructor but again that should matter unless I am trying to read from it instead of writing to it. /* defualt constructor */ Coin::Coin() { _id = ""; _label = ""; _code= ""; _name = ""; _marketCoin = ""; _volume = 0; _last = 0; _exch = ""; } Exchange::Exchange(std::string str) { _exch = str; _currencies = new Currency; std::string pair; std::string response; CURL *curl; initializeCurl(curl); getTradePairs(curl, response); int exit = response.find_last_of("marketid"); parseTradePairs(_currencies, &response, 0, exit); } int main(void) { CURL *curl; string str; string id; Coin coin1; initializeCurl(curl); Exchange ex("cryptsy"); curl_easy_cleanup(curl); system("pause"); return 0; } class Exchange { public: typedef struct Currency { Currency(Coin *coin, Currency *next, Currency *prev, int position) : _coin(coin), _next(next), _prev(prev), _position(position) {} Currency(Currency *prev, int position) : _prev(prev), _position(position), _next(NULL), _coin(&Coin()){} Currency() : _next(NULL), _prev(NULL), _position(0) {} Coin *_coin; Currency *_next; Currency *_prev; int _position; }; /* constructor and destructor */ Exchange(); Exchange(std::string str); ~Exchange(); /* Assignment operator */ Exchange& operator =(const Exchange& copyExchange); /* Parse Cryptsy Pairs */ friend void parseTradePairs(Currency *curr, std::string *response, int begin, int exit); private: std::string _exch; Currency *_currencies; }; here is what i changed it to to fix it. typedef struct Currency { Currency(Coin *coin, Currency *next, Currency *prev, int position) : _coin(coin), _next(next), _prev(prev), _position(position) {} Currency(Currency *prev, int position) : _prev(prev), _position(position), _next(NULL), _coin(&Coin()){} Currency() { _next = NULL; _prev = NULL; _position = 0; _coin = new Coin(); } Coin *_coin; Currency *_next; Currency *_prev; int _position; };

  • Define a method in base class that returns the name of itself (using reflection) - subclasses inheri

    - by Khnle
    In C#, using reflection, is it possible to define method in the base class that returns its own name (in the form of a string) and have subclasses inherit this behavior in a polymorphic way? For example: public class Base { public string getClassName() { //using reflection, but I don't want to have to type the word "Base" here. //in other words, DO NOT WANT get { return typeof(Base).FullName; } return className; //which is the string "Base" } } public class Subclass : Base { //inherits getClassName(), do not want to override } Subclass subclass = new Subclass(); string className = subclass.getClassName(); //className should be assigned "Subclass"

  • Formal name of Magento’s Class Override Design Pattern?

    - by Alan Storm
    Magento is a newish (past 5 years) PHP based Ecommerce system with an architecture that's similar to the Java Spring framework (or so I've been told) One of the features of the Framework is certain classes are not directly instantiated. Rather than do something like $model = new Mage_Foo_Model_Name(); you pass an identifier into a static method on a global application object $model = Mage::getModel('foo/name'); and this instantiates the class for you. One of the wins with this approach is getModel checks a global configuration system for the foo/name identifier, and instantiates the class name it finds in the configuration system. This allows you to change the behavior of a Model system wide with a single configuration change. Is there a formal, Gang of Four or otherwise, name that describes this system/design pattern? The instantiation itself looks like a classic Factory pattern, but I'm specifically interested in the whole "override a class in the system via configuration" aspect. Is there a name/concept that covers this, or is it contained within the worldview of a Factory?

  • Class design question (Disposable and singleton behavior)

    - by user137348
    The Repository class has singleton behavior and the _db implements the disposable pattern. As excepted the _db object gets disposed after the first call and because of the singleton behavior any other call of _db will crash. [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode=InstanceContextMode.Single)] public class Repository : IRepository { private readonly DataBase _db; public Repository(DataBase db) { _db = db; } public int GetCount() { using(_db) { return _db.Menus.Count(); } } public Item GetItem(int id) { using(_db) { return _db.Menus.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.Id == id); } } } My question is, is there any way to design this class to work properly without removing the singleton behavior? The Repositoryclass will be serving big amount of requests.

  • Automatically selecting and creating class objects

    - by Omin
    Lets say that we have a box class: class Box { private int width; private int height; //Box Constructor public Box( int height ) { this.height = height; width = 450; } } and a series of Box objects in our main: Box Box1 = new Box(147); Box Box2 = new Box(178); Box Box3 = new Box(784); Is there a way to use a "for" loop to go through these objects? Also, how would you make the computer create class objects for us? eg. create 10 objects using: for( int i=0; i>10; i++) { //method }

  • Reflection for Class of generic parameter in Java?

    - by hatboysam
    Imagine the following scenario: class MyClass extends OtherClass<String>{ String myName; //Whatever } class OtherClass<T> { T myfield; } And I am analyzing MyClass using reflection specifically (MyClass.class).getDeclaredFields(), in this case I will get the following fields (and Types, using getType() of the Field): myName --> String myField --> T I want to get the actual Type for T, which is known at runtime due to the explicit "String" in the extends notation, how do I go about getting the non-genetic type of myField?

  • I'd want a method to be called only by objects of a specific class

    - by mp
    Suppose you have this class: public class A { private int number; public setNumber(int n){ number = n; } } I'd like the method setNumber could be called only by objects of a specific class. Does it make sense? I know it is not possible, is it? Which are the design alternatives? Some well known design pattern? Sorry for the silly question, but I'm a bit rusty in OO design.

  • How to inherit methods from a parent class in C++

    - by Pat
    When inheriting classes in C++ I understand members are inherited. But how does one inherit the methods as well? For example, in the below code, I'd like the method "getValues" to be accessible not through just CPoly, but also by any class that inherits it. So one can call "getValues" on CRect directly. class CPoly { private: int width, height; public: void getValues (int* a, int* b) { *a=width; *b=height;} }; class CRect: public CPoly { public: int area () { return (width * height); } }; In other words, is there any way to inherit methods for simple generic methods like getters and setters?

  • strange behavior while including a class in php

    - by user1864539
    I'm experiencing a strange behavior with PHP. Basically I want to require a class within a PHP script. I know it is straight forward and I did it before but when I do so, it change the behavior of my jquery (1.8.3) ajax response. I'm running a wamp setup and my PHP version is 5.4.6. Here is a sample as for my index.html head (omitting the jquery js include) <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#submit').click(function(){ var action = $('#form').attr('action'); var form_data = { fname: $('#fname').val(), lname: $('#lname').val(), phone: $('#phone').val(), email: $('#email').val(), is_ajax: 1 }; $.ajax({ type: $('#form').attr('method'), url: action, data: form_data, success: function(response){ switch(response){ case 'ok': var msg = 'data saved'; break; case 'ko': var msg = 'Oops something wrong happen'; break; default: var msg = 'misc:<br/>'+response; break; } $('#message').html(msg); } }); return false; }); }); </script> body <div id="message"></div> <form id="form" action="handler.php" method="post"> <p> <input type="text" name="fname" id="fname" placeholder="fname"> <input type="text" name="lname" id="lname" placeholder="lname"> </p> <p> <input type="text" name="phone" id="phone" placeholder="phone"> <input type="text" name="email" id="email" placeholder="email"> </p> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" id="submit"> </form> And as for the handler.php file: <?php require('class/Container.php'); $filename = 'xml/memory.xml'; $is_ajax = $_REQUEST['is_ajax']; if(isset($is_ajax) && $is_ajax){ $fname = $_REQUEST['fname']; $lname = $_REQUEST['lname']; $phone = $_REQUEST['phone']; $email = $_REQUEST['email']; $obj = new Container; $obj->insertData('fname',$fname); $obj->insertData('lname',$lname); $obj->insertData('phone',$phone); $obj->insertData('email',$email); $tmp = $obj->give(); $result = $tmp['_obj']; /* Push data inside array */ $array = array(); foreach($result as $key => $value){ array_push($array,$key,$value); } $xml = simplexml_load_file($filename); // check if there is any data in if(count($xml->elements->data) == 0){ // if not, create the structure $xml->elements->addChild('data',''); } // proceed now that we do have the structure if(count($xml->elements->data) == 1){ foreach($result as $key => $value){ $xml->elements->data->addChild($key,$value); } $xml->saveXML($filename); echo 'ok'; }else{ echo 'ko'; } } ? The Container class: <?php class Container{ private $_obj; public function __construct(){ $this->_obj = array(); } public function addData($data = array()){ if(!empty($data)){ $oldData = $this->_obj; $data = array_merge($oldData,$data); $this->_obj = $data; } } public function removeData($key){ if(!empty($key)){ $oldData = $this->_obj; unset($oldData[$key]); $this->_obj = $oldData; } } public function outputData(){ return $this->_obj; } public function give(){ return get_object_vars($this); } public function insertData($key,$value){ $this->_obj[$key] = $value; } } ? The strange thing is that my result always fall under the default switch statement and the ajax response fit both present statement. I noticed then if I just paste the Container class on the top of the handler.php file, everything works properly but it kind of defeat what I try to achieve. I tried different way to include the Container class but it seem to be than the issue is specific to this current scenario. I'm still learning PHP and my guess is that I'm missing something really basic. I also search on stackoverflow regarding the issue I'm experiencing as well as PHP.net, without success. Regards,

  • Log4J - Speed of resolving class/method/line references

    - by Jeach
    Does log4J still gather the class, method and line numbers by generating exceptions and inspecting the stack trace? Or has Java been optimized since Sun included their own logging framework. If not, why has there not been any optimizations made since. What is the main challenges in obtaining class, method and line numbers quickly and efficiently? Although I hate annotations and try to avoid them, has log4J not made use of this, such as: @log4j-class MyClass @log4j-method currentMethodOne At least this would avoid some companies bad habit of repeatedly writing/copying the method name as the first part of their logging message (which is seriously annoying). Thanks, Jeach!

  • Counter variable for class

    - by George
    I am having problem getting this piece of code to run. The class is Student which has a IdCounter, and it is where the problem seems to be. But I have been getting error. • Changing cell class on radio button change

    - by Nick
    Huge thanks for the help in this thread - Click td, select radio button in jQuery But now I'm having trouble that it won't change the class of the cell, even though I have binded the 'change' trigger in jQuery like so: $("td input[type=radio]").bind('change click', function () { $('td').removeClass('selected'); $(this).parent('td').addClass('selected'); }); $("td").click(function () { $('input:radio', this).attr('checked', true); }); Hope that makes sense. If you click the radio button, or move between them using the keyboard, the cell's class changes just fine. However if you trigger this by clicking the cell it doesn't change the class :( Thanks

  • C# - Listing class properties like Immediate window

    - by Robert
    Hi, I store a few classes in session. I want to be able to see the values of my class properties in trace viewer. By default I only the Type name MyNamespace.MyClass. I was wondering if I overwrite the .ToString() method and use reflection to loop over all the properties and construct a string like that ... it would do the trick but just wanted to see if there is anything already out there (specially since Immediate Window has this capability) which does the same ... i.e. list the class property values in trace instead of just the Name of the class. Thanks!

  • CakePHP Form Helper - Show error class, but not error message

    - by Jeremy Penrod
    I'm attempting to customize the error output on the CakePHP 2.0 form helper. Currently, the form renders error messages below the input and applies an 'error' class to the input's label. I have found that I can either disable error reporting altogether for an input, or output the error class and message. I would like the error class to be applied to the label of the offending inputs WITHOUT any message below. How do you turn off the error message outputting for a form, BUT still apply error classes to offending labels?
