  • LinearLayout not expanding inside a ScrollView

    I have a LinearLayout inside a ScrollView that has android:layout_height="fill_parent", but it doesn't expand to the full height of the ScrollView. My layout looks something like: level layout layout_width layout_height 1 LinearLayout fill_parent fill_parent 2 LinearLayout fill_parent wrap_content 3 (some irrelevant stuff) 2 ScrollView fill_parent fill_parent <-- this expands full height 3 LinearLayout fill_parent fill_parent <-- this does not (has orientation=vertical) (following stuff probably are irrelevant, but just to be sure:) 4 TextView fill_parent fill_parent 4 LinearLayout fill_parent wrap_content I can see that the LinearLayout doesn't expand the full height of the ScrollView because in Eclipse in Android Layout Editor, if I select the ScrollView (in the Outline panel) it is highlighted with a red border that fills the screen to the bottom but when I select the LinearLayout its highlight doesn't expand to the bottom of the screen. How can I get it to do so? The effect I'm trying to achieve is to have some text and a button below it (inside the LinearLayout in level 4 there's just a button). The text can be big enough to need a scrollbar, in which case I want the user to have to scroll down in order to see the button. In case the text is not big enough for a scroll bar, I want the LinearLayout containing the button to stick to the bottom of the screen.

    I have the following layout defined for one of my Activities: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TableLayout android:id="@+id/TableLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <TableRow android:id="@+id/TableRow01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <EditText android:text="Resource Name" android:id="@+id/ResourceName" android:lines="1" android:isScrollContainer="false"></EditText> </TableRow> <TableRow android:id="@+id/TableRow02" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <Button android:id="@+id/Tile" android:text="Tile"></Button> </TableRow> </TableLayout> The layout renders almost correctly, the only problem is that my text box and my button aren't occupying the full width of their respective rows. I've tried specifying fill_parent for the layout width properties, but to no avail, they still only occupy roughly half of the screen. Documentation overall for Android so far has been great, but there are a few scenarios like this one where I hit an invisible wall! Thanks for all the help!

But they return 0. I guess that is because the layout isn't rendered yet. Does anyone have a clue, how can I control the size of the popup window without needing to use absolute pixel numbers?

  • Adjust width of td to make make row widths even

    I am trying to produce a table with a different number of cells in each row. The first row is a header row (every other row contains cells). This header is the width of the table. The second row has 2 cells in it... the third has 1 cell... the fourth has 4 cells... the fifth and final row has 3 cells. I want the table set up so that the rows span the full width of the table. If the table is 1000px... The header would be 1000px wide the cells in the 2nd row would be 500px EACH the cell in the 3rd row would be 1000px the cells in the 4th row would be 250px EACH and the cells in the 5th row would be 333px, 334px, and 333px each (left-to-right) I figured out I could use colspan for the first 4 rows, but the 5th (with 3 cells) would require a non-integer value. The cells in the 5th row won't expand beyond their column without colspan that I can tell... trying the width:## CSS code inside a div tag for each cell inside the td tag creating a class or classes that define the cell widths id-ing each cell, with or without a div tag, and defining widths individually and adjuting the table-layout: option After several days, I'm now at my rope's end. The only thing I can come up with is deliberately tripling the number of cells in each row so that colspan would be all integer values. That sounds inconvenient and unreasonably difficult to format the table the way I'd like. It's a table of Batman movies for a website -- a practice website I'm building, in order to learn HTML/CSS. I've been working on-and-off with HTML for several months, and CSS for a few weeks. PS: It is not being used for layout, I am simply trying to adjust the layout of the table itself.

  • CSS 100 percent height body and element

    I am having an issue making one of my elements 100% within an overall layout that is 100%. I have tried different positioning solutions and I either end up with hidden content the floats behind the footer at the bottom, or the content ends up going behind the footer, and carrys on after the footer.   • Very large database, very small portion most being retrieved in real time

    Hi folks, I have an interesting database problem. I have a DB that is 150GB in size. My memory buffer is 8GB. Most of my data is rarely being retrieved, or mainly being retrieved by backend processes. I would very much prefer to keep them around because some features require them. Some of it (namely some tables, and some identifiable parts of certain tables) are used very often in a user facing manner How can I make sure that the latter is always being kept in memory? (there is more than enough space for these) More info: We are on Ruby on rails. The database is MYSQL, our tables are stored using INNODB. We are sharding the data across 2 partitions. Because we are sharding it, we store most of our data using JSON blobs, while indexing only the primary keys

    Hello, I have a site hosted on a Plesk VPS with 512MB memory and keep on getting kmemsize in "black zone" QoS errors. The soft limit of kmemsize is 12,288,832 and hard limit is 13,517,715. The definition Virtuozzo gives is: Size of unswappable memory, allocated by the operating system kernel. What's eating up the kmemsize? Is there any way to reconfigure and increase the kmemsize? The servers barely have any load or processing. Thanks for the help...

    I have 16GB ram in my machine. Before, free -m outputted the normal 16 GB ram, however now (after a reboot) it only detects 8 GB ram. Is one ram module damaged? grep -i memory /var/log/dmesg outputs Memory: 15621184k/16017200k available (2535k kernel code, 387120k reserved, 1748k data, 196k init). (Which looks like 16 GB to me).     I'm sure everyone has experienced it - if you leave a computer on too long, every once in a while, it needs a fresh reboot. I have a laptop, and I only hibernate it, but every week or two, I'm going to need to restart otherwise it will just slow down (usually when windows update makes me restart) I was wondering though... why? What are some of the things that occur that eat up memory that can seemingly not be freed unless I reboot the OS. In addition, are there any programs I can get that can free up this memory and keep the computer alive for longer? Preferably for windows 7.

    Hi, I'm running a CentOS 5.3 server with a basic LAMP stack. I've optimized LAMP and my code to run efficiently as possible, but Apache has a memory leak somewhere that kills my server every hour or so. What is the best way to write a script that will monitor the memory usage and if it peaks over, say, 450MB kill all the Apache processes and restart Apache. I know C++/PHP and basic Linux server administration but I'm not familiar with Perl or bash scripting. I'd be open to learn any solutions, though, as a temporary solution while I find the issue.

Why is available memory dropping to ~20MB after a while, bringing the whole server down? I see httpd processes climbing more and more, and the only thing I can do is to restart the server and everything will work fine again.   • Unix Server Partitioning & Filesystem Layout

    There's a lot of contradictory information about Unix server partitioning out on the internet, so I need some advice on how to proceed. So far, on the servers I in our test environment I didn't really care about partitioning and I configured a single monolithic / plus a swap partition. This partitioning scheme doesn't seem like a good idea for our production servers. I have found a good starting point here, but it seems very vague on the details. Basically I have a server on which I will be running a basic LAMP stack (Apache, PHP, and MySQL). It will have to handle file uploads (up to 2GB). The system has a 2TB RAID 1 array. I plan to set : / 100GB /var 1000GB (apache files and mysql files will be here), /tmp 800GB (handles the php tmp file) /home 96GB swap 4GB Does this sound sane, or am I over-complicating things?

  • Run script when a specific disk/memory card is mounted under OSX

    How do I run a script when a drive is mounted under OSX ? My usecase is that I would like to automatically copy images from my USB memory/harddrive when it is inserted in my USB card reader, and when a DVD or CD is inserted I would like to copy it for storage in my media center. I've tried using Marcopolo but from what I can see it can only detect the presence of a certain USB device, not the presence of specific harddrive.   • Does upgrading RAM causes increase in Graphic card's share?

    I have asked this question on Ask Ubuntu, and I was suggested to Upgrade RAM from most voted answers. But I got a point about my graphics card. Since, I can upgrade RAM and not graphics card, Does upgrading RAM also cause graphics memory to increase. To clear the point: My specs are given below: Laptop : Lenovo 3000 Y410. (bought in 2008 October) RAM: 1 GB (DDR2) External Graphics (Dedicated): N/A Internal Graphics (Shared): 256 MB Graphics Chipset: Intel GMA X3100 My Question is: If I increase my RAM to 3 GB, will it increase graphics cards share of the Memory. In other word, If graphics card shares 256 MB in 1GB RAM, will it share more, when I upgrade the RAM into 2GB or more ?   • Drupal + Zen - not proper layout/no graphics

    Hello, I installed Drupal (both using Fantastico, then started over from scratch) and Drupal works great except when I setup the Zen theme (following the instructions on the website and in the readme-first.txt) the theme does not show up properly. it has no graphics except for the tiny drupal logo way at the bottom. the rest is text. I have uploaded the theme to the /public_html/sites/all/themes folder and it does show up in themes in the administer section so I select enable and default. permissions on this folder are 755. any ideas? I checked the Drupal forums and someone is having the same problem but no one replied (this was in April) so I figured I would have a better shot on this awesome website. thanks. Luma

  • How can I keep a file in Windows 7's cache?

    Sometimes you know better than Windows what files will be re-used later. Suppose you have 8GB of memory, and you use the same 1GB file every hour in an I/O-bound application (which takes 1 second to finish if the file is cached, and 1 minute if not.) Now you process some other 16GB of data that are not going to be re-used. Naturally the frequently used 1GB file will be pushed out of the cache. It would be beneficial if one can tell Windows to keep that 1GB file in memory. (Better yet, it would be great if I can tell Windows not to cache those 16GB of data, but I'm not optimistic that this can be done.) The poor-man's way to keep a file in the cache would be to keep reading the file. Are there any better ways? Are you aware of any programs that do this? (If this can be easily done under Linux, please let me know too.)

  • Better layout of Expose on Leopard

    Is it possible for Expose on Mac OS X Leopard to arrange the preview windows in a more optimal manner? After a while on superuser, opening up a new windows for each question that interests me, Expose looks like this: It is of minimal value seeing each preview is so small. I have no hope in hell seeing the contents of each windows. Is there some secret setting or 3rd party application that could fix this for me?
