  • VNC Server running on Linux machine to access all the terminals open on the Linux

    I have a Linux Ubuntu(11.10) box at work, on which I open 4 terminals and execute different processes(my code). I run vncserver on this Linux box, so as to access it remotely. When I login to my office Windows PC using vpn, I would like to connect to this office Linux desktop using VNC Client and be able to see all the Linxu desktop which had my 4 open terminals executing the programs. How to use VNC to view Desktop of Linux PC and all the terminals associated to that which I opened to execute my programs?

  • hiera data source in using puppet syntax?

    The documentation for hiera on docs.puppetlabs.com seems to give me the impression that I can use puppet syntax to describe my data. Or posssibly will be able to in the future. See: Coming soon. Is this functionality present in a release version of puppet, and just not documented, or is this still being developed? If this functionality is present, does anyone have examples of how to actually use this? The presence of the puppet_backend.rb file on my system gives which was part of the puppetmaster package makes me thing that this functionality is present, but just not documented. So I am trying to figure out how to actually use this.

  • How do I open a 60M png image on OSX

    Alright, so I've been looking around on this site on how to open a big PNG image. The question I found was about a 10M png. Xee apparently did the job. So, I downloaded Xee for my 60M file, but it crashes. So does iPhoto, Pixelmator and previewer. In the Pixelmator and Xee case, I actually had to kill the computer, and restart it. It crashed so 'hard' I couldn't get it to respond again. How do I open this file? (and zoom it) Specs: newly acquired macbook pro: 4gb memory, 2.3ghz i7 58M png image approx: 15000x30000 pixels

    I am trying to run a very basic webserver for development/debugging. The static HTML seems to be delivered correctly, but it seems that the JavaScript libraries are not being delivered to the browser. The page HTML says something like <html> <head> <script type='text/javascript' src="/lib/json.js"></script> ... Now, I have set up a link for /lib/ in my httpd.conf as: Scriptalias /lib/ "/SomeFolder/lib/" When I do this, it can't fetch the files because this is what I see in my apache error log: ... [error] [client ::1] client denied by server configuration: /SomeFolder/lib/json.js, referer: http://localhost/SomeSite It seems that apache is not allowing access to the folder, so I add this to httpd.conf: Directory "/SomeFolder/lib/"> Allow from all </Directory> After this, browsing the page still does not run the JS, instead I see the following error in my apache error log: [error] [client ::1] (13)Permission denied: exec of '/SomeFolder/lib/json.js' failed, referer: http://localhost/SomeSite So now, it seems that apache is trying to run the JS files on the server like a cgi script or something. But I have not made that folder a cgi-bin folder. The only lines where SomeFolder is mentioned by name is in these lines in httpd.conf: Scriptalias /lib/ "/SomeFolder/lib/" Directory "/SomeFolder/lib/"> Allow from all </Directory>

  • IP telephony open source systems

    I'm trying to pick an IP telephony technology to learn. I heard of Asterisk, trixbox, freePBX, and my head was already spinning being not sure what to learn. Then I came across this article listing some more like Kamailio, Yate, CallWeaver, FreeSWITCH, SipXecs and now my head REALLY is spinning http://www.cio.com.au/article/323016/five_open_source_ip_telephony_projects_watch . Can someone give me a run down of how all these technologies tie together? What is the trend now, because I'd like to start learning.     I have difficulty open opening word and excel files suddenly. Only particular office file give me the problem. These files were previously scanned by combo fix and I believe they were damaged. The error response that I from office is Excel cannot open the file xxx.xlsx because the file format is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file. This is for excel and a similar kind of error response comes for word. The file looks fine. I mean the size vise... Please help me with this problem. I really appreciate your help and time....

  • Finding source of leaking active memory on Mac OS Lion

    My activity monitor shows 6GB of active RAM usage: Yet my Real Memory column shows nothing like that amount: (There's another screenful below that, all smaller.) Backing that up, the output from this command (which sums up memory usage of every running process): ps -axm -o "rss,comm" | awk 'BEGIN { s=0;}; {s=s+$1;}; END { printf("%.2f GB\n", (s/1024.0/1024));}' Gives 4.09GB, so it looks to me like 2GB has leaked. I see much wider ranges sometimes, perhaps 2 or 3GB from the ps command and as much as 7 or 8GB of Active usage reported by Activity Monitor. I've tried quitting everything and logging my user out and back in again, but the Active usage is still far higher than the RAM reported by ps and by each process to Activity Monitor. This 2GB of active RAM is basically unrecoverable unless I reboot. Is there any way to a) detect what's leaking and b) get it back? Thanks

  • Bulk "open with" change on OS X 10.6

    I use Microsoft remote desktop to connect from my mac to the windows machine I work on. I have a directory with about 50 different rdp files. (The config files for each machine). They go changed to open with the remote desktop in Windows XP on Parallels. Is there a command I can use to change all those back to opening with the remote desktop on my Mac? I can use the right mouse click "Always open with" command, or the equivalent on the "Get Info" menu, but I would like to find a way to make that change in bulk. "Change All..." button on the "Get Info" menu does not have any effect.

    Im upgradeing my router from a netgear fvs318 one of the problems im running into is on the old net gear i have opend ports under the "Add Service " for our voip udp 69 tcp 80 tcp 2000 udp 22026-62025 but on the new linksys/cisco rotuer i don't see any option to just open a port i see port forwarding (which i dont want because i have more than one phone) and port triggering that i have no idea what that does. does anyone know either how to allow open ports on this router or how to use port tiggering to allow my phones to work with the ports listed above?

  • Unable to open Infopath2007 files in Outlook 2010

    Our company recently began upgrading selected users to Outlook 2010, however we all still remain on Infopath 2007. Everything seems to be working fine for our users going from Infopath 2007 to Outlook 10. Where we are running into the problem is for our users who are on Outlook 10 talking to other users that are also on Outlook 10. When any user opens an Infopath file from a shared site, completes and submits it, and then choses to reply to it, our Outlook 10 folks can not open the emails. They pop open for just a second and close down. It also appears in their email list with a different icon. Any ideas on how to get our Outlook 2010 users to see all of their infopath emails?

    I've seen this but it doesn't work for me. I'm not using Git's version of bash but the one that comes with cygwin, so that could be part of the problem. Here is how I have my tab in Console2 set up: Title: bash.exe Shell: C:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe --login -i Startup dir: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% This is my registry entry: Directory shell Console2 Open Console2 Here command "C:\Console2\Console.exe" -d "%1" bash always starts in my home directory instead of the directory I'm clicking on, then I have to cd /cygdrive/d/code ... etc. I tried removing the value in the "Startup dir" field, changing it to %1, %1% with no luck.     In MS Word, by default, you can use: Ctrl+F4 to close Word Ctrl+W to close the current document Is it possible to make Word close when you close the last open document? For instance, in Chrome, if you keep hitting Ctrl+W you'll eventually close the last tab, which will also close Chrome. I'd like the same functionality with Word (and the other Office products) where I can just keep closing documents until I close the last one, at which point the application closes. Unfortunately, Ctrl+W doesn't close Word, even when there are no documents open.

  • Leaving my wifi open for the world

    For my home I want to be a nice neighbor actually I have let my wifi open for the past maybe 6 or 7 years. I know that WEP, etc can be cracked within a couple of minutes but my neighbors son who works in IT told his mom and she told me that I am doing bad things and you know the story.. Do you think it's okay to leave your wifi open to the public? I live in a suburb with a tiny street and about 8 houses in reach of my wifi. I have a 16k DSL line so if some one joins me for a couple hours I would probably not notice. I would love your thoughts on whether I should encrypt my wifi or not.

  • MySQL open files limit

    This question is similar to set open_files_limit, but there was no good answer. I need to increase my table_open_cache, but first I need to increase the open_files_limit. I set the option in /etc/mysql/my.cnf: open-files-limit = 8192 This worked fine in my previous install (Ubuntu 8.04), but now in Ubuntu 10.04, when I start the server up, open_files_limit is reported to be 1710. That seems like a pretty random number for the limit to be clipped to. Anyway, I tried getting around it by adding a line like this in /etc/security/limits.conf: mysql hard nofile 8192 I also tried adding this to the pre-start script in mysql's upstart config (/etc/init/mysql.conf): ulimit -n 8192 Obviously neither of those things worked. So where is the hoop that has been added between Ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04 through which I must jump in order to actually increase the open files limit?

  • Tracking down source of duplicate email messages in Outlook / Exchange environment

    I have a few users, who are also Blackberry users, that occasionally have duplicate emails generated from their "mailbox". I put mailbox in quotes because I'm not exactly sure where the duplicates are created. One of these users is in non-cached mode, and the other is in cached mode, and both experience the problem. In fact, the non-cached mode user was originally experiencing the problem while in cached mode, and I made the switch a few weeks ago to attempt to solve the problem. Today I discovered the issue still exists. I'm not sure if the fact that they are blackberry users could be causing the problem at all. I don't see how, but felt I should mention it anyway. Does anyone have ideas on how I might begin to troubleshoot this? I can see in the non-cached user's mailbox "Sent Items" that the message was sent only once. I confirmed the message does not state that there was a conflict and in fact that makes sense because they are in non-cached mode. On the server, we have a mail journaling feature turned on for our third-party mail archiving system, and I can see that that system sees two sent messages. And likewise, the recipient does in fact have two messages in their inbox with consecutive message IDs ([email protected]) and ([email protected]). It would seem to me that the duplicates are generated on the client, but is there a way to tell for sure?

    I'd like to broadcast audio from my Mac desktop to my Palm Pre, as the Pre is more portable and I can use it in the kitchen, or while I'm exercising, and so on. I can already capture the audio using Soundflower, but how might I create an MP3 stream out of the audio input device? For all intents and purposes, Soundflower can reduce this question down to, "How can I create an MP3 stream from the built-in microphone on my Mac?" as the answer can be applied equally well to iTunes output.
