  • Loading and binding a serialized view model to a WPF window?

    - by generalt
Hello all. I'm writing a one-window UI for a simple ETL tool. The UI consists of the window, the code behind for the window, a view model for the window, and the business logic. I wanted to provide functionality to the users to save the state of the UI because the content of about 10-12 text boxes will be reused between sessions, but are specific to the user. I figured I could serialize the view model, which contains all the data from the textboxes, and this works fine, but I'm having trouble loading the information in the serialized XML file back into the text boxes. Constructor of window: public ETLWindow() { InitializeComponent(); _viewModel = new ViewModel(); this.DataContext = _viewModel; _viewModel.State = Constants.STATE_IDLE; Loaded += new RoutedEventHandler(MainWindow_Loaded); } XAML: <TextBox x:Name="targetDirectory" IsReadOnly="true" Text="{Binding TargetDatabaseDirectory, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"/> ViewModel corresponding property: private string _targetDatabaseDirectory; [XmlElement()] public string TargetDatabaseDirectory { get { return _targetDatabaseDirectory; } set { _targetDatabaseDirectory = value; OnPropertyChanged(DataUtilities.General.Utilities.GetPropertyName(() => new ViewModel().TargetDatabaseDirectory)); } Load event in code behind: private void loadState_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { string statePath = this.getFilePath(); _viewModel = ViewModel.LoadModel(statePath); } As you can guess, the LoadModel method deserializes the serialized file on the user's drive. I couldn't find much on the web regarding this issue. I know this probably has something to do with my bindings. Is there some way to refresh on the bindings on the XAML after I deserialize the view model? Or perhaps refresh all properties on the view model? Or am I completely insane thinking any of this could be done? Thanks.

  • Where do I define dependency properties shared by the detail views in a master-detail MVVM WPF scena

    - by absence
I can think of two ways to implement dependency properties that are shared between the detail views: Store them in the master view model and add data bindings to the detail view models when they are created, and bind to them in the detail view. Don't store them in the view models at all, and use FindAncestor to bind directly to properties of the master view instead. What are the pros and cons of each, and are there other/better options?

  • WPF: Is ListBox or Panel responsible for mouse wheel navigation?

    - by HDW
I have a custom ListBox which uses a custom Panel as ItemsHost. I want to have control over mouse wheel input, so that turning the wheel changes the single selected item. I believe that the best method to do so is to handle the OnPreviewMouseWheel event (although this is only have what I want since it doesn't provide horizontal wheel data). Now the big question: Is there a best practice where to handle OnPreviewMouseWheel? In ListBox (which by default doesn't have a clue about the arrangement of the Panel's child elements) or in Panel (which by default doesn't have a clue about the "IsSelected" property of it's child elements)?

  • Why won't this hit test fire a second time? wpf

    - by csciguy
All, I have a main window that contains two custom objects (AnimatedCharacter). These objects are nothing but images. These images might contain transparent portions. One of these objects slightly overlaps the other object. There is a listener attached to the main window and is as follows. private void Window_MouseLeftButtonUp_1(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { Point pt = e.GetPosition((UIElement)sender); //store off the mouse pt hitPointMouse = pt; //clear the result list hitResultsSubList.Clear(); EllipseGeometry m_egHitArea = new EllipseGeometry(pt, 1, 1); VisualTreeHelper.HitTest(sender as Visual, HitTestFilterFuncNew, new HitTestResultCallback(HitTestCallback), new GeometryHitTestParameters(m_egHitArea)); //Check all sub items you have now hit if (hitResultsSubList.Count > 0) { CheckSubHitItems(hitResultsSubList); } } The idea is to filter out only a select group of items (called AnimatedCharacters). The hittest and filters are as follows public HitTestResultBehavior HitTestCallback(HitTestResult htrResult) { IntersectionDetail idDetail = ((GeometryHitTestResult)htrResult).IntersectionDetail; switch (idDetail) { case IntersectionDetail.FullyContains: return HitTestResultBehavior.Continue; case IntersectionDetail.Intersects: return HitTestResultBehavior.Continue; case IntersectionDetail.FullyInside: return HitTestResultBehavior.Continue; default: return HitTestResultBehavior.Stop; } } public HitTestFilterBehavior HitTestFilterFuncNew(DependencyObject potentialHitTestTarget) { if (potentialHitTestTarget.GetType() == typeof(AnimatedCharacter)) { hitResultsSubList.Add(potentialHitTestTarget as AnimatedCharacter); } return HitTestFilterBehavior.Continue; } This returns me back a list (called hitResultsSubList) that I attempt to then process further. I want to take everything in the hitResultsSubList and run a hit test on it again. This time, the hit test will be checking alpha levels on the particular animatedCharacter object. private void CheckSubHitItems(List<DependencyObject> hitResultsSub) { for(int i = 0; i<hitResultsSub.Count; i++) { hitResultsList.Clear(); AnimatedCharacter ac = hitResultsSub[i] as AnimatedCharacter; try { //DEBUGGER SKIPS THIS NEXT LINE EVERY SINGLE TIME. VisualTreeHelper.HitTest(ac, null, new HitTestResultCallback(hitCallBack), new PointHitTestParameters(hitPointMouse)); } catch (Exception e) { System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(e.StackTrace); } if (hitResultsList.Count > 0) { //do something here } } } Here is my problem now. The hit test in the second function (CheckSubHitItems) never gets called. There are definitely items (DependencyObjects of the type AnimatedCharacter) in the hitResultSub, but no matter what, the second hit test will not fire. I can walk the for loop fine, but when that line is hit, I get the following console statement. Step into: Stepping over non-user code 'System.MulticastDelegate.CtorClosed' No exceptions are thrown. Any help is appreciated.

  • WPF: Is it possible to nest TreeView items with a binding expression?

    - by John Gietzen
    Lets say I have the following data: <XmlDataProvider x:Key="Values"> <x:XData> <folder name="C:"> <folder name="stuff" /> <folder name="things" /> <folder name="windows"> <folder name="system32" /> </folder> </folder> </x:XData> </XmlDataProvider> How can I get that into a treeview? I can't seem to grok hierarchical binding... I know that I can get it in there in C# code, but I wanted to do it with a binding expression.

  • WPF, how can I optimize lines and circles drawing ?

    - by Aurélien Ribon
    Hello ! I am developping an application where I need to draw a graph on the screen. For this purpose, I use a Canvas and I put Controls on it. An example of such a draw as shown in the app can be found here : http://free0.hiboox.com/images/1610/d82e0b7cc3521071ede601d3542c7bc5.png It works fine for simple graphs, but I also want to be able to draw very large graphs (hundreds of nodes). And when I try to draw a very large graph, it takes a LOT of time to render. My problem is that the code is not optimized at all, I just wanted it to work. Until now, I have a Canvas on the one hand, and multiple Controls on the other hands. Actually, circles and lines are listed in collections, and for each item of these collections, I use a ControlTemplate, defining a red circle, a black circle, a line, etc. Here is an example, the definition of a graph circle : <!-- STYLE : DISPLAY DATA NODE --> <Style TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayNode}"> <Setter Property="Canvas.Left" Value="{Binding X, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Canvas.Top" Value="{Binding Y, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayNode}"> <!--TEMPLATE--> <Grid x:Name="grid" Margin="-30,-30,0,0"> <Ellipse x:Name="selectionEllipse" StrokeThickness="0" Width="60" Height="60" Opacity="0" IsHitTestVisible="False"> <Ellipse.Fill> <RadialGradientBrush> <GradientStop Color="Black" Offset="0.398" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" /> </RadialGradientBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> </Ellipse> <Ellipse Stroke="Black" Width="30" Height="30" x:Name="ellipse"> <Ellipse.Fill> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="White" /> <GradientStop Offset="1.5" Color="LightGray" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> </Ellipse> <TextBlock x:Name="tblock" Text="{Binding NodeName, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=TemplatedParent}}" Foreground="Black" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" FontSize="10.667" /> </Grid> <!--TRIGGERS--> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <!--DATAINPUT--> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="SkinMode" Value="NODETYPE" /> <Condition Property="NodeType" Value="DATAINPUT" /> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter TargetName="tblock" Property="Foreground" Value="White" /> <Setter TargetName="ellipse" Property="Fill"> <Setter.Value> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="-0.5" Color="White" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" Color="Black" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </MultiTrigger> <!--DATAOUTPUT--> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="SkinMode" Value="NODETYPE" /> <Condition Property="NodeType" Value="DATAOUTPUT" /> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter TargetName="tblock" Property="Foreground" Value="White" /> <Setter TargetName="ellipse" Property="Fill"> <Setter.Value> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="-0.5" Color="White" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" Color="Black" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </MultiTrigger> ....... THERE IS A TOTAL OF 7 MULTITRIGGERS ....... </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> Also, the lines are drawn using the Line Control. <!-- STYLE : DISPLAY LINK --> <Style TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayLink}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayLink}"> <!--TEMPLATE--> <Line X1="{Binding X1, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" X2="{Binding X2, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" Y1="{Binding Y1, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" Y2="{Binding Y2, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" Stroke="Gray" StrokeThickness="2" x:Name="line" /> <!--TRIGGERS--> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <!--BRANCH : ASSERTION--> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="SkinMode" Value="BRANCHTYPE" /> <Condition Property="BranchType" Value="ASSERTION" /> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter TargetName="line" Property="Stroke" Value="#E0E0E0" /> </MultiTrigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> So, I need your advices. How can I drastically improve the rendering performances ? Should I define each MultiTrigger circle rendering possibility in its own ControlTemplate instead ? Is there a better line drawing technique ? Should I open a DrawingContext and draw everything in one control, instead of having hundreds of controls ?

  • How to enforce min-width/height of a control to be always visible in WPF?

    - by MartyIX
Hello, I've got an application and I would like to know if there's a way how to keep the whole visual element always visible. I thought that minWidth/minHeight will do that but it only changes the minimal size of the element but it doesn't enforces that the whole visual element is visible. I think what I need is minWidth from WinForms where it works exactly as I need. Example: Setting minWidth and minHeight for Window works but if I set minWidth for a StackPanel in Window the window can be resized so that the minWidth of StackPanel is ignored (actually the StackPanel has the requested size but it's hidden). Thank you for any suggestion!

In My ViewModel class I have a property: class ViewModel { public string FileName {get;set;} } and in my View I bind a label's content to ViewModel's FileName. now When I do drag-drop a file to my View, How can I update the label's Content property, so that the ViewMode's FileName also get updated via binding? Directly set the label's Content property won't work, it just simply clear the binding.

    - by Ashish Ashu
I have a enum let's say Enum MyEnum { FirstImage, SecondImage, ThirdImage, FourthImage }; I have binded this Enum to my combobox in XAML. While defining an combobox I have defined an ItemTemplate of combox to take Two UI element: TextBlock that show the enum value (Description) Image I have done this much in XAML. I am wondering where I can specify the Image corrosponding to each item of Enum. Is that possible through data trigger ? I really appreciate if anyone have the XAML for this scenario. Many Thanks in advance

  • Beginner WPF/XML question: How to get an <element> in an <element>?

    - by Niels
I have a rather simple question. I'm trying to get information out of an XML file, and now I need to get the that's inside another This is my XML code: <author> <name>Random_name1 (Random Name)</name> <uri>http://thisisanrandomurl.com</uri> </author> I can get the info with this code: Name = item.Element(ns + "author").Value, But this gives me: "Random_name1 (Random Name) http://thisisanrandomurl.com" I only want the info inside the tags. Any ideas? Thanks a lot, - Niels

  • WPF: How to connect to a sql ce 3.5 database with ADO.NET?

    - by EV
Hi, I'm trying to write an application that has two DataGrids - the first one displays customers and the second one selected customer's records. I have generated the ADO.NET Entity Model and the connection property are set in App.config file. Now I want to populate the datagrids with the data from sql ce 3.5 database which does not support LINQ-TO-SQL. I used this code for the first datagrid in code behind: CompanyDBEntities db; private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { db = new CompanyDBEntities(); ObjectQuery<Employees> departmentQuery = db.Employees; try { // lpgrid is the name of the first datagrid this.lpgrid.ItemsSource = departmentQuery; } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } However, the datagrid is empty although there are records in a database. It would also be better to use it in MVVM pattern but I'm not sure how does the ado.net and MVVM work together and if it is even possible to use them like that. Could anyone help? Thanks in advance.

  • How can I model the data in a multi-language data editor in WPF with MVVM?

    - by Patrick Szalapski
Are there any good practices to follow when designing a model/ViewModel to represent data in an app that will view/edit that data in multiple languages? Our top-level class--let's call it Course--contains several collection properties, say Books and TopicsCovered, which each might have a collection property among its data. For example, the data needs to represent course1.Books.First().Title in different languages, and course1.TopicsCovered.First().Name in different languages. We want a app that can edit any of the data for one given course in any of the available languages--as well as edit non-language-specific data, perhaps the Author of a Book (i.e. course1.Books.First().Author). We are having trouble figuring out how best to set up the model to enable binding in the XAML view. For example, do we replace (in the single-language model) each String with a collection of LanguageSpecificString instances? So to get the author in the current language: course1.Books.First().Author.Where(Function(a) a.Language = CurrentLanguage).SingleOrDefault If we do that, we cannot easily bind to any value in one given language, only to the collection of language values such as in an ItemsControl. <TextBox Text={Binding Author.???} /> <!-- no way to bind to the current language author --> Do we replace the top-level Course class with a collection of language-specific Courses? So to get the author in the current language: course1.GetLanguage(CurrentLanguage).Books.First.Author If we do that, we can only easily work with one language at a time; we might want a view to show one language and let the user edit the other. <TextBox Text={Binding Author} /> <!-- good --> <TextBlock Text={Binding ??? } /> <!-- no way to bind to the other language author --> Also, that has the disadvantage of not representing language-neutral data as such; every property (such as Author) would seem to be in multiple languages. Even non-string properties would be in multiple languages. Is there an option in between those two? Is there another way that we aren't thinking of? I realize this is somewhat vague, but it would seem to be a somewhat common problem to design for. Note: This is not a question about providing a multilingual UI, but rather about actually editing multi-language data in a flexible way.

  • How do I implement a custom Brush in WPF?

    - by MojoFilter
    Where can I find out enough info about how Brushes work to implement my own System.Windows.Media.Brush? I can handle all of the freezable baggage, but it's not really obvious what I need to override to get it to work. Yeah, so I didn't mean that I want to use a predefined brush. I want to extend System.Windows.Media.Brush, which is an abstract class. This is all purely for my own edification. I'm not even sure what kind of brush I could make. I was just trying to learn how brushes work. As in: public AwesomeBrush : Brush { protected override Freezable CreateInstanceCore() { return new AwesomeBrush(); } ... // concrete brush stuff }

  • Tool to generate a GUI (WinForms or WPF) from a class.

    - by Pat
Say we've got a class like public class Doer { public int Timeout {get;set;} public string DoIt(string input) { string toReturn; // Do something that involves a Timeout return toReturn; } } Is there a tool that would create a Form or Control for prototyping this class? The GUI might have a NumericUpDown control with a label of "Timeout" and a GroupBox with a TextBox for "input" and a button labeled "DoIt" with an eventhandler that calls Doer.DoIt with the Text property of the input TextBox and puts the response in another TextBox.

Hi all!I'll give an example of what I intend to do: I have 2 StackPanels one containing an Ellipse the other one containing nothing; I want to drag the Ellipse from one stack panel to the other . The actual drag & drop is already done and works fine. However I'd like to know how to keep that that Ellipse shape at the tip of my mouse cursor (I've been searching all day and couldn't find anything that helps ) Even an windows forms example would be nice , I'll be able to adapt it :). Thanks for the help!

  • How to find out minimal render size of a visual in WPF?

    - by MartyIX
Hello, I'm trying to display a game desk and info panel right next to the game desk and I need to calculate minimal width of the info panel in order to display the game desk properly. This is my XAML code: <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Rectangle Width="Auto" Height="Auto" Name="gamedeskRect" Style="{DynamicResource GameDesk}" /> <StackPanel Name="infoPanel" Width="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Height="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Center" Margin="10,0,0,0"> <!-- a few textblocks in a grid here --> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> And the problem is that when I'm resizing the window a part of the right panel may be cropped which is what I don't want.

  • WPF Binding with RelativeSource of Window Requires "DataContext" in Path?

    - by Phil Sandler
The following code works, but I'm curious as to why I need the Path to be prefixed with "DataContext"? In most other cases, the path used is relative to DataContext. Is it because I am using a RelativeSource? Because the source is at the root level (Window)? <Style TargetType="TextBox"> <Setter Property="IsReadOnly" Value="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type Window}}, Path=DataContext.IsReadOnly}"/> </Style>

  • In a WPF Application, What happens after my code in the main window constructor is executed?

    - by KyleGobel
I'm wondering what happens after the constructor is done executing my code, because the constructor is taking like 10 seconds to run on a cold start up, but according to the profiler, my code is done executing in like 2 seconds. Also stepping through the code in the debugger, after the last line of my constructor, I sit there and wait for 7-8 seconds before the window appears. Why is this? If the window is loading content or something, why isn't it displayed on the screen, done loading or not after the constructor finishes it's job? What's the hold up? (or how do i figure that out)

  • WPF/MVVM: Reshaping/Binding data on a DataGrid to a PivotGrid layout ?

    - by msfanboy
Hello, I do not want to use 3rd party controls because I would have to buy a suite for justing using one control... So is there any chance I can arrange 3 entities: Subject, Grade and Pupil in that way on a simple DataGrid to show Pivot data like: ...........Math....Sports.... M.Kramer...A.......C......... B.Jonson...D.......A......... Does the binding for example work on the RowHeader with properties of a custom object/entity ? And would sorting destroy the whole relations between the entities ? You ever tried to do something like that?
