  • What the difference between zend framework and Wordpress as framework ?

    i only know wordpress and start to seek another alternative framework, zend. i heard hearsay that zend's better from others framework. if you're "a serous coder", or try to act like one, you need to use it on building your web app. some said zend is better. But it's subjective. It's fast ans secure. But nobody tell me the reason or at leas compare it with with wordpress. ultimate question : Do zend have theme or plugin just like wordpress ? any hint will be helpful

  • The cost of finalize in .Net

    (1) I've read a lot of questions about IDisposable where the answers recommend not using Finalize unless you really need to because of the process time involved. What I haven't seen is how much this cost is and how often it's paid. Every millisecond? second? hour, day etc. (2) Also, it seems to me that Finalize is handy when its not always known if an object can be disposed. For instance, the framework font class. A control can't dispose of it because it doesn't know if the font is shared. The font is usually created at design time so the user won't know to dispose it, therefore finalize kicks in to finally get rid of it when there are no references left. Is that a correct impression?

  • Zend Framework Relations vs. Table Select

    Hey! I just want to know your guys opinion on using join tables within the zend framework. Of course you can use relations by defining a referenceMap and dependentTables and stuff, or using setIntegrityCheck(false) within a db select(). The setIntegrityCheck version seems a little bit dirty to me, but the other version is not very suitable for big querys and joining many tables... I'm a PHP developer for 5 years now and new to the zend framework and just want get a direction for my first project. Thanks!!!

    Is ADO.NET and ASP.NET a part of Base Class Library? The information given in wikipedia looks ambiguous to me. In the figure, it is shown as a separate block. What is the difference between Base Class Library(BCL) and Framework Class Library(FCL)? Is FCL as a part of .NET Framework? If so why is FCL not shown in the figure as part of .NET framework? Got confused!!

    Hello, I'm working on a project that requires the ability to let a user download a pdf from a static location on the server. I'm reading the instructions from this website, it's an old post and I notice they specify in an update that Microsoft's MVC framework has long since included and Action Result that allows the same functionality they discuss thus rendering it obsolete, I've looked a bit online but haven't been able to find any resources that discuss this built-in functionality. If anyone has any links or other information that discuss this it would be very helpful. Thanks.

    PLEASE READ THE FULL QUESTION BEFORE POST YOUR ANSWER Hello guys! I'm currently developing a "Extremelly customized Installer Application" in C# for installing a old classic ASP application. It'll be used during the 2.0 version is developed (ASP.NET MVC with C#). As its so different from the efault install packages, I've made it as normal windows application, not as setup application (a setup application don't let us customize so much as I need). And here is the problem: As its a windows application, I must "Release" it and send the compiled .EXE with the .DLLs, I must not "Publish" because if i do so, the published .EXE will "install the installer" and not my application. I need a way to verify and install the .NET Framework 3.5 like a bootstrap package prerequisite used in publishing option, but remember that I'm not publishing, I'm doing a "Release" build.   • Using ASP.Net 4.0 for new Dev projects

    I am currently in the early stages of developing a couple web applications, I have not written any code yet as I am still just gathering requirements and scoping things out. I want to target ASP.Net 4.0 winforms as the platform for these apps but I want to make sure there are no glaring issues with this new version before I commit. I understand that if I was porting an existing app from 2.0, 3.5 to 4.0 there may be issues but I am starting from scratch on these projects and plan to write these apps to support the new features of 4.0. Should I wait for the first service pack to come out? Just seems like more work to start with 3.5 now only to go back through and tweak things for 4.0 in just a few months or even before I finish the app. Our servers are Win 2K3 with IIS6 and MS SQL 2000, Should I expect any problems with VS 2010 and MS SQL 2000 in regards to Linq to SQL and EF?

  • Determining the angle to fire a shot when target and shooter moves, and bullet moves with shooter velocity added in

    I saw this question: Predicting enemy position in order to have an object lead its target and followed the link in the answer to stack overflow. In the stack overflow page I used the 2nd answer, the one that is a large mathematical derivation. My situation is a little different though. My first question though is will the answer provided in the stack overflow page even work to begin with, assuming the original circumstances of moving target and stationary shooter. My situation is a little different than that situation. My target moves, the shooter moves, and the bullets from the shooter start off with the velocities in x and y added to the bullets' x and y velocities. If you are sliding to the right, the bullets will remain in front of you as you move so as long as your velocity remains constant. What I'm trying to do is to get the enemy to be able to determine where they need to shoot in order to hit the player. Unless the player and enemy is stationary, the velocity from the ship adding to the velocity of the bullets will cause a miss. I'd rather like to prevent that. I used the formula in the stack overflow answer and did what I thought were the appropriate adjustments. I've been banging at this for the last four hours and I just can't make it click. It is probably something really simple and boneheaded that I am missing (that seems to be a lot of my problems lately). Here is the solution presented from the stack overflow answer: It boils down to solving a quadratic equation of the form: a * sqr(x) + b * x + c == 0 Note that by sqr I mean square, as opposed to square root. Use the following values: a := sqr(target.velocityX) + sqr(target.velocityY) - sqr(projectile_speed) b := 2 * (target.velocityX * (target.startX - cannon.X) + target.velocityY * (target.startY - cannon.Y)) c := sqr(target.startX - cannon.X) + sqr(target.startY - cannon.Y) Now we can look at the discriminant to determine if we have a possible solution. disc := sqr(b) - 4 * a * c If the discriminant is less than 0, forget about hitting your target -- your projectile can never get there in time. Otherwise, look at two candidate solutions: t1 := (-b + sqrt(disc)) / (2 * a) t2 := (-b - sqrt(disc)) / (2 * a) Note that if disc == 0 then t1 and t2 are equal. If there are no other considerations such as intervening obstacles, simply choose the smaller positive value. (Negative t values would require firing backward in time to use!) Substitute the chosen t value back into the target's position equations to get the coordinates of the leading point you should be aiming at: aim.X := t * target.velocityX + target.startX aim.Y := t * target.velocityY + target.startY Here is my code, after being corrected by Sam Hocevar (thank you again for your help!). It still doesn't work. For some reason it never enters the section of code inside the if(disc = 0) (obviously because it is always less than zero but...). However, if I plug the numbers from my game log on the enemy and player positions and velocities it outputs a valid firing solution. I have looked at the code side by side a couple of times now and I can't find any differences. There has got to be something simple I'm missing here. If someone else could look at this code and determine what is going on here I'd appreciate it. I know it's not going through that section because if it were, shouldShoot would become true and the enemy would be blasting away at the player. This section calls the function in question, CalculateShootHeading() if(shouldMove) { UseEngines(); } x += xVelocity; y += yVelocity; CalculateShootHeading(); if(shouldShoot) { ShootWeapons(); } UpdateWeapons(); This is CalculateShootHeading(). This is inside the enemy class so x and y are the enemy's x and y and the same with velocity. One output from my game log gives Player X = 2108, Player Y = -180.956, Player X velocity = 10.9949, Player Y Velocity = -6.26017, Enemy X = 1988.31, Enemy Y = -339.051, Enemy X velocity = 1.81666, Enemy Y velocity = -9.67762, 0 enemy projectiles. The output from the console tester is Bullet position = 2210.49, -239.313 and Player Position = 2210.49, -239.313. This doesn't make any sense.     We're about to embark on some ASP.NET MVC development and have been using our own entity framework for years. However we need to support more than our entity framework is capable of and so I'd like to get some opinions about using MVC with a more robust framework. We have narrowed down or choices to either NHibernate (with the Fluent APIs) or LINQ to SQL. Which framework lends itself best to MVC style development (I know SO uses LINQ to SQL)? If we want to support SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL - does that exclude LINQ to SQL?

    I built many a website, and my own 'custom' framework is just a general box of scripts cobbled together with loose ideas. I would love to progress to a framework which allows me to pass it onto the client for freedom. Someone suggested using wordpress but I'm not sure how general this can be. A current site I need to build is a fancy kitchen company, price lists, flash gallery (with backend driven pics) and well designed home. How could I bend the the will of wordpress?     Hi guys, I have a website that has around 10 pages. Only one of those pages uses Zend (to integrate with Google gData). Right now, it's just all coded into that one page, but I'm wanting to learn how to use Zend Framework. How do you handle basic-relatively static php pages within Zend Framework? Do you just stick the whole individual pages into their own respective views and then have to common stuff in the layout, and not worry about a model and controller for those pages? in general, is MVC accepted and appropriate technology for general "web-design" work?

  • Should i use TabContainer for multiple pages?

    I'm considering if it is a good idea to use an ASP.Net TabContainer-Control in the way that every TabPanel contains content of a different page. For example: Next i want to implement in my application is the masterdata management. Normally i would create one aspx page for every masterdata-table (f.e. Customer - MD_Customer.aspx). Then i would add a link into my Menu to this page. Now i'm thinking of creating one aspx page for all(Masterdata.aspx) with a Tabcontainer and an UpdatePanel for every type of Masterdata. The link it the menu could have an additional MDType as URL-Parameter. My main concerns are related to performance(one "page" for every TabPanel currently means 7 "pages" in one) and maintainability because of increasing complexity. Is it a good approach or a bad idea? Thanks

If I comment out a line of code that sets the images for the context menu entries then it stops throwing the exception. Any ideas?

    Is there, by chance, and emerging Haskell UI framework for Windows? I recently took up looking over the language, and from what I see, it would be great little "one-off" applications (elaborate scripts). However, without a good UI framework I can't see it getting in under the smoke and mirrors of the more obvious contenders. I've read that there are many frameworks, but none are full-featured. I'm just wondering if this is something that's on the rise, or is it simply too difficult to get enough developers going in the same direction with one?

  • Different Assembly Name for Each Platform Target

    I need to generate different assembly names depending on the platform target. For example, I have a console application "bob.exe". Instead of building for AnyCPU, I need to build explicitly for x86 and x64 and thus want "bob32.exe" and "bob64.exe". The Application tab in Visual Studio 2010 project options disables the Platform combobox. Build Events also don't allow options per platform so I can't rename it afterwards very easily.
