  • SDL Video Init causes Exception on Mac OS X 10.8

    - by ScrollerBlaster
    I have just ported my C++ game to OS X and the first time it ran I get the following exception when trying to call SDL_SetVideoMode. 2012-09-28 15:01:05.437 SCRAsteroids[28595:707] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Error (1000) creating CGSWindow on line 259' * First throw call stack: ( 0 CoreFoundation 0x00007fff8b53b716 __exceptionPreprocess + 198 1 libobjc.A.dylib 0x00007fff90e30470 objc_exception_throw + 43 2 CoreFoundation 0x00007fff8b53b4ec +[NSException raise:format:] + 204 3 AppKit 0x00007fff8a26a579 _NSCreateWindowWithOpaqueShape2 + 655 4 AppKit 0x00007fff8a268d70 -[NSWindow _commonAwake] + 2002 5 AppKit 0x00007fff8a2277e2 -[NSWindow _commonInitFrame:styleMask:backing:defer:] + 1763 6 AppKit 0x00007fff8a22692f -[NSWindow _initContent:styleMask:backing:defer:contentView:] + 1568 7 AppKit 0x00007fff8a2262ff -[NSWindow initWithContentRect:styleMask:backing:defer:] + 45 8 libSDL-1.2.0.dylib 0x0000000107c228f6 -[SDL_QuartzWindow initWithContentRect:styleMask:backing:defer:] + 294 9 libSDL-1.2.0.dylib 0x0000000107c20505 QZ_SetVideoMode + 2837 10 libSDL-1.2.0.dylib 0x0000000107c17af5 SDL_SetVideoMode + 917 11 SCRAsteroids 0x0000000107be60fb _ZN11SDLGraphics4initEP6IWorldii + 291 ) libc++abi.dylib: terminate called throwing an exception Abort trap: 6 My init code looks like this: if (SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_EVERYTHING) < 0) return false; const SDL_VideoInfo *videoInfo = SDL_GetVideoInfo(); if (!videoInfo) { fprintf(stderr, "Video query failed: %s\n", SDL_GetError()); return false; } /* the flags to pass to SDL_SetVideoMode */ videoFlags = SDL_OPENGL; /* Enable OpenGL in SDL */ videoFlags |= SDL_GL_DOUBLEBUFFER; /* Enable double buffering */ videoFlags |= SDL_HWPALETTE; /* Store the palette in hardware */ /* This checks to see if surfaces can be stored in memory */ if (videoInfo->hw_available) videoFlags |= SDL_HWSURFACE; else videoFlags |= SDL_SWSURFACE; if (w == 0) { widthViewport = videoInfo->current_w; heightViewport = videoInfo->current_h; cout << "Will use full screen resolution of "; videoFlags |= SDL_FULLSCREEN; } else { cout << "Will use full user supplied resolution of "; widthViewport = w; heightViewport = h; videoFlags |= SDL_RESIZABLE; /* Enable window resizing */ } cout << widthViewport << "x" << heightViewport << "\n"; /* This checks if hardware blits can be done */ if (videoInfo->blit_hw) videoFlags |= SDL_HWACCEL; /* Sets up OpenGL double buffering */ SDL_GL_SetAttribute(SDL_GL_DOUBLEBUFFER, 1); /* get a SDL surface */ surface = SDL_SetVideoMode(widthViewport, heightViewport, SCREEN_BPP, videoFlags); It gets into that last SDL call and throws the exception above. I have tried it in both full screen and resizable window mode, same thing. I build my app old school, on the command line, as opposed to using Xcode.

  • MVC and conditional formatting - strategies for implementation

    - by Extrakun
Right now I am writing a simulation program which output is formatted according to certain factors. The question is in a MVC architecture, where is the conditional formatting to be taken place? What are some strategies for implement this feature? FYI, The platform I am using is rather bare-bone in its GUI/front-end execution. To change color and formatting, it requires a change to the formatting state (much like OpenGL).

  • powershell function output to variable

    - by tommy
I have a function in powershell 2.0 named getip which gets the IP address(es) of a remote system. function getip { $strComputer = "computername" $colItems = GWMI -cl "Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration" -name "root\CimV2" -comp $strComputer -filter "IpEnabled = TRUE" ForEach ($objItem in $colItems) {Write-Host $objItem.IpAddress} } The problem I'm having is with getting the output of this function to a variable. The folowing doesn't work... $ipaddress = (getip) $ipaddress = getip set-variable -name ipaddress -value (getip) any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • Image Transformation on iPhone, how to?

    - by Horace Ho
Since I cannot pre-render all the images in PNGs and real-time image transformation functions are required, namely: skew perspective (like the transform action found in Photoshop) Which API (CoreAnimation? OpenGL ES?) should I look into? Even better, is there any sample code around? Thanks!

  • Can these sorts of programs exist in every Turing-complete language?

    - by I can't tell you my name.
In every Turing-Complete language, is it possible to create a working Compiler for itself which first runs on an interpreter written in some other language and then compiles it's own source code? (Bootstrapping) Standards-Compilant C++ compiler which outputs binaries for, e.g.: Windows? Regex Parser and Evaluater? World of Warcraft clone? (Assuming the language gets the necessary API bindings as, for example, OpenGL and the WoW source code is available) (Everything here theoretical) Let's take Brainf*ck as an example language.

  • ¿Que riesgo hay en usar extract con las variables superglobales de php?

    - by Carlos Montalvo
    Hola usando estas funciones, que riesgo corro en tener problemas de seguridad, es necesesario usar extract() o hay alguna manera mejor de convertir las variables superglobales (array) en trozos de variables. if ( get_magic_quotes_gpc() ) { $_GET = stripslashes( $_GET ); $_POST =stripslashes( $_POST ); } function vars_globals($value = '') { if (is_array ( $value )) $r = &$value; else parse_str ( $value, $r ); return $r; } $r = vars_globals( $_GET ); extract($r, EXTR_SKIP);

  • iPad: How to let a user write a hand-written note using a Pogo(like) stylus?

    - by MikeN
How could I let a user jot a quick hand-written note on an iPad using a Pogo-like stylus? (Or by using their finger, some kind of stylus makes it more legible feasible.) Initial thoughts: 1) Open GL canvas? 2) Store the output as a .png/.jpg snapshot of the openGL screen (by taking a screenhot of the iPad? 3) Would the note be limited to one screenshot, could there be a scrollable area notepad to write out a long note?

  • How to smooth the edge of a zig-zag line?

    - by Horace Ho
Currently I draw a zig-zap line by CGContextMoveToPoint, CGContextAddLineToPoint, and CGContextStrokePath, following touchesMoved events. How can I smooth the edges of the line? Such that when the user draw a circle-like shape, the circle can be more round'ed. The GLPaint example use OpenGL, is that the only way to do it?

  • Modern Game Programming

    - by Alon
Hey. I'm a software and web developer for ~3 years, and I want to start learning 3D network game programming. What is the most modern & fastest way to write 3D PC games? What language? For graphics, should I use a graphics API like Direct3D/OpenGL or is there something less painful? What math/physics skills should I know before starting? Thank you.

  • Recording custom overlay on iPhone

    - by Marc
Hi all, I'm interested in recording a video with a custom overlay which would end up in the video itself. They could be UIImage or even better, an OpenGL viewport, is there even such possibility right now on any iPhone devices/SDK ? Thanks

  • How do you manage the namespaces of your extension methods?

    - by Robert Harvey
Do you use a global, catchall namespace for all of your extension methods, or do you put the extension methods in the same namespace as the class(es) they extend? Or do you use some other method, like an application or library-specific namespace? EDIT: I ask because I have a need to extend System.Security.Principal.IIdentity, and putting the extension method in the System.Security.Principal namespace seems to make sense, but I've never seen it done this way.

  • Percent of internet running Google Native Client?

    - by anon
Anyone have numbers on how many machines / % of internet uses have Google Native Client? I'm curious about google NaCL as a platform: it seems to combine the best of the web (just a webpage, accessible on any machine) and desktop apps (OpenGL, C/C++ power). The only question is -- what percent of the world actually use it. Anyone have data on this? Thanks!

  • OpenCL C/C++ dynamic binding library (win32 and more)

    - by rotoglup
I'm giving a try at OpenCL, and in order to put this in production I'd like to be able to bind dynamically to OpenCL.DLL (when under Windows), in order to handle 'gracefully' the case where no OpenCL is installed on the host computer. Is there any available library (or code snippet) that takes care of this dynamic binding in C or C++, much like GLEW does for OpenGL ? I'd like to avoid the hassle to do it myself. Thanks,

  • How to setup Lucene/Solr for a B2B web app?

    - by Bill Paetzke
Given: 1 database per client (business customer) 5000 clients Clients have between 2 to 2000 users (avg is ~100 users/client) 100k to 10 million records per database Users need to search those records often (it's the best way to navigate their data) Possibly relevant info: Several new clients each week (any time during business hours) Multiple web servers and database servers (users can login via any web server) Let's stay agnostic of language or sql brand, since Lucene (and Solr) have a breadth of support For Example: Joel Spolsky said in Podcast #11 that his hosted web app product, FogBugz On-Demand, uses Lucene. He has thousands of on-demand clients. And each client gets their own database. They use an index per client and store it in the client's database. I'm not sure on the details. And I'm not sure if this is a serious mod to Lucene. The Question: How would you setup Lucene search so that each client can only search within its database? How would you setup the index(es)? Where do you store the index(es)? Would you need to add a filter to all search queries? If a client cancelled, how would you delete their (part of the) index? (this may be trivial--not sure yet) Possible Solutions: Make an index for each client (database) Pro: Search is faster (than one-index-for-all method). Indices are relative to the size of the client's data. Con: I'm not sure what this entails, nor do I know if this is beyond Lucene's scope. Have a single, gigantic index with a database_name field. Always include database_name as a filter. Pro: Not sure. Maybe good for tech support or billing dept to search all databases for info. Con: Search is slower (than index-per-client method). Flawed security if query filter removed. One last thing: I would also accept an answer that uses Solr (the extension of Lucene). Perhaps it's better suited for this problem. Not sure.

  • One class per file rule in .NET?

    - by Joan Venge
I follow this rule but some of my colleagues disagree with it and argue that if a class is smaller it can be left in the same file with other class(es). Another argument I hear all the time is "Even Microsoft don't do this, so why should we?" What's the general consensus on this? Are there cases where this should be avoided?

  • C++ stl collections or linked lists

    - by Lucas
I'm developing a OpenGL based simulation in C++. I'm optmizing my code now and i see throughout the code the frequently use of std:list and std:vector. What is the more performatic: to continue using C++ stl data structs or a pointer based linked list? The main operation that involve std::list and std::vector is open a iterator and loop through all items in the data structs and apply some processing

  • Do graphic cards have instruction sets of their own?

    - by Matt
Do graphic cards have instruction sets of their own? I assume they do, but I have been wondering if it is proprietary or if there is some sort of open standard. Is every GPU instruction preceded by a CPU instruction or is it seamless? That is does OpenGL or DirectX call on the driver layer via the CPU which then sends a GPU instruction down the bus or is it more elaborate.
