• VPN server to access Samba4

  On my network I have an Ubuntu 12.04 server running Samba4, my domain is fully configured and functional. Now, I would like to enable VPN access over the internet, and have another box to do so. I have been searching on the internet for guides and information etc, but have not been successful. I have however found this guide http://www.howtogeek.com/51237/setting-up-a-vpn-pptp-server-on-debian/ but was wondering if I could adapt it somehow to enable access to my DC services. EDIT: I would need to authenticate my VPN server with my DC, if that is possible of course. Any insight would be wonderful. Regards, Jack Hunt

  I installed xampp back around January 2009, and CF8 to test coldfusion on my macbook (note: I do not think that this issue is related to CF, but only xampp). I only ever used the apache part of xampp, and this was working for over a year. In the last couple of months at the most I've started getting the following error message (even for none CF sites, and non .cfm pages, the error occurs for .html files..): Access forbidden!   I was up to sending a very long message, about 90,000 characters, to a friend, I tried several times but I got an error sending the message. Finally, I think part of my message was sent because I could see the characters in my message list under my friend's name. When I clicked the name to see my whole message it wouldn't load the message. And now I can't access any of my messages and I get this message from Facebook: Sorry, messages are temporarily unavailable. Please try again in a few minutes.   I am not being paid for this and I would like to know the quickest way to do the following. A former client has a page which only members can access. This page links to a number of galleries which he only wants members to access. The galleries are not protected by any kind of authentication. What I assume is the quickest way to do this is to create a .htaccess file which only allow people to view the site when the come from a certain referrer. Would this work? My current thinking is that I could use a php script to deploy a .htaccess file into each of the gallery directories. (There are around a 100 at the moment.) I found this link which might be what I am after but to be honest I really don't get it. Is my thinking sound?

  I don't know how to access a Samba share running on a Ubuntu 10.04 server through OpenVPN 2.1.0. I've installed & configured OpenVPN and everything works. The server end of the tunnel has the IP of 10.8.0.1. When I connect from XP (over our local network) I'm given the IP of 10.8.0.6. I can ping and trace route from both ends of the tunnel. Now, I'm lost...how to access the Samba share from XP and from OS X?

  Situation: I have two Windows7 machines (PC and laptop). I've set PC as VPN server and laptop as VPN client using default built-in W7 network tools. I've disabled use default gateway in remote network on client machine, so client don't try to route all communication through VPN. I've routed port 1723 (TCP/UDP) on NAT to my server and enabled IPSec/PPTP/L2TP passthrough I've put my laptop in indepedent network (basically I've connected it via 3G network), connected to VPN server and checked ipconfig /all I've get: IP Address: 192.168.1.101 Mask: 255.255.255.255 Gateway: (none) LAN mask in server LAN network is 255.255.255.0 - I am surely missing something obvious, but Google doesn't give me any good advices; How can I access local LAN network from remote VPN client? How can I access local shared documents?

• Fedora 17 - Can't access remote machine using hostname

  I am using Fedora 17 and am trying to access a remote machine (running Fedora 15) using its hostname which isn't working. The machine is right next to me on the same switch as my machine (so they are both on the same network with the same subnet and everything). When I was running Windows (7 32-bit) on my machine I could access the other machine no problem but now that I am running Fedora 17 that's not the case. Is there an additional daemon or something that I need to be using in order for this to work?

However, if I use my laptop through my company network, I can load the page bbc.co.uk normally. Then, I though maybe my ADSL at home blocks that web address. However, I tried another laptop with my home ADSL and it can load the page bbc.co.uk very fast. Now I do not know what could be the problem. Can anyone tell me what could cause the issue, please?   Hi All, I have a MAC machine running MAC OS Version 10.6.6. I have added my mac machine to a domain controller (which runs Windows version of server) and allow users from domain controller to login. Because of our server migration, we removed the mac machine from old domain controller and added it to the new domain controller. Users in the old domain controller are copied to new domain controller. When I login into mac (which is added to new domain controller) with the domain controller user credentials, I was not able to access my desktop folders and any other folders in my users directory. It says "The folder Desktop can't be opened because you don't have permission its contents" Any idea why I was not able to access my home directory and how can I resolve this issue...!

Actually it's a git repositiory for bower registy but it doesn't matter. But if I leave empty password then WinSSHD doesn't allow connection with error "Incorrect virtual account password". How to setup a SSH access without any authentication?

• IMAP can't access virtual account sharing name with local user account

  I am setting up a postfix/dovecot mail server with virtual accounts, per the Chris Haas tutorial. I'm finding that virtual users who also have local user accounts on the mail server cannot access their email remotely via IMAP. They're told they cannot login. (I'm using Thunderbird for that). These same users can login when emulating IMAP locally via telnet. Virtual users without local accounts have no trouble with IMAP access from remote clients. These local user accounts have vestiges of prior efforts in their home directories: mbox files, Mail and mail directories. I've looked at the logs for clues to where the remote login process is failing (dovecot authentication failure? confusion over where emails are stored?) but found nothing helpful. I haven't found much in the dovecot or postfix documentation that describes the IMAP login process and expectations in enough detail to help me diagnose this. So: how do I go about identifying the problem and researching a solution?

  I have a drive on a server called "filestore" This has a folder called "users" in here, theres is a "users" folder. In there are folders such as - jsmith, jblogs, abrown - which correspond to usernames of our active directory. When a user logs on, the H: drive is mapped to their above mentioned folder - for example //filestore/users/jsmith I am trying to make one of these folders available offline in Windows XP. when i do so, i get an access is denied error. according to this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/275461 i need to make the root folder have read access to the users. This means, however, all the users will be able to get in all the folders (if they browse to //filestore/users/) How can I still achieve offline files for that particular users "h:" drive, and still have the other folders secured?

  So here's the idea: I use multiple computers on an almost daily basis. I would like to be able to access my entire music library from any of those computers through the Internet. Is there a service or perhaps some software that would allow me to host my music "in the cloud", or in some other way access it from a different computer? I've searched for something like this and the closest I've found is the Media Player application found in Opera Unite, but that requires my home computer to be turned on at all times, which is less than ideal.   on my win7, I run compmgmt.msc and drill to a private queue folder ... when I click "Queue messages" or "Journal messages", I either see the messages, or "There are no items to show in this view". BUT, on win2008 R2 Enterprise, I run compmgmt.msc and drill to a private queue folder ... when I click "Queue messages" or "Journal messages", I see "There are no items to show in this view" which AFAIK is correct BUT I get this unwanted dialog: Message Queuing x ------------------------ (X) The list of messages cannot be retrieved. Error: Access is denied. [[ OK ]] On both computers, I'm a member of local Administrators. I'm concerned as a developer because I'm very soon going to be testing WCF/MSMQ software that works on my Win7 laptop. How to I get past this denied access problem? thnx / g.

  Hi All, I have a NAS drive, and this is sharing some folders. I cannot access those folders from a windows 2008 machine which is on the network. The are both connected to the same network switch. e.g. if I go like this, \\server\ or \\server\folder I get the message 'windows cannot access \\server check the spelling, click diagnose' etc. Error code: 0x80004005 The thing is that I can connect to this shared drive from a windows 7 laptop connected wirelessly to the same network. I can ping the server from windows 2008, but only if I use the IP address, not the server name.

  I'm hoping to get some suggestions for possible Wireless Access point/router models which will allow us to have two separate networks. We run an internal network on 10.x.x.x IP range where we have shares and other network resources for which we would like to have our regular users access. However, we would also like to offer a separate wireless network for guests which ideally would be on 192.168.x.x and these users would not be able to see any of the resources sitting on the 10.x.x.x network. Anyone have any recommendations on single devices that might be able to get the job done? I was looking at the Linksys E4200 and it seems to support what I'm looking to do... any others?   The condition: I'm running on windows 7, I'm using a usb broad band for my computer, then my computer is connected to the router tp-link tl-wr340g (in this sense my computer is the internet source since my router has no usb port for this type of broad band). I set the broad band to have internet sharing. I got 3-4 client connected through the router. The problem is whenever a client is using the internet, other clients including me don't have internet connection, additionally, If I have the internet access other clients don't have internet access. In my setup in windows XP (bridging the broad band and the router network) it works perfectly fine, every one has simultaneous internet. To clarify, how can I have all clients including me have internet connection simultaneously in my windows 7 OS? //Additionally, the create "network bridge" setup is missing, from this link the "Bridge Connection is missing", how can I fix that?

  Hi, I have a wifi network at home with a couple of laptops. I am running a Tapestry webapp on my machine. I can access this webapp from the other laptop if I use the IP address of my machine (I mean enter something like : http://192.168.1.53:8080/webapp/index.html). Now, I also want to access the same webapp through my iPodTouch which is also in this wifi network. However, when I try to do so in Safari on iPodTouch, it fails.   I have very little knowledge about networking. I have an internet connection on my PC (running Windows XP). I've enabled internet connection sharing to other computers on my network connected using a WIFI router. I want to block use of GMail (in general, specific domains) from other computers, but should be able to access them from my own machine. I can't edit my hosts file because my machine too would lose access. I guess I need to configure my wireless router for that. But I have no idea how to do so. My wireless router is a Zyxel P-660HW-T1 v2. I'd appreciate any pointers.

• Give apache write access to DocumentRoot on dev server

  I've got apache running on my mac workstation (OS X 10.7, with the pre-installed copy of apache), and our web applications require write access to certain sections of the filesystem to run (usually just a tmp dir, but sometimes more than that). We have (literally) thousands of clients, and I want to be able to quickly grab a copy of any website's code, and have it "just work", however I always need to manually modify the unix permissions of specific directories after pulling a client's website out of source control (the list of directories varies from one client to another, as it has changed over the years). Since it's a dev server, firewalled off from the general internet, I would like to give apache/php write access to the entire DocumentRoot. How can I do this? I tried chmod 777 on the DocumentRoot, but if I create a directory inside it, the permissions are still 755 (owner: me, group: wheel). I think there should be a way to force all files created inside DocumentRoot to be 777 or perhaps 775, with the _www user added to the wheel group?

• My NetGear router suddenly started showing limited access for all wifi connected laptops

  I have netgear n300 router which I had installed about 6 months back. Here is how the setup is, I have a local internet provider by the name of "Hathway" they have this modem which is in turn connected to the router and a wire from router is connected to my desktop. As shown in this pic below, except for the laptop I use a desktop rest all the connection is same So with this connection and the below configuration, every thing worked fine. The desktop would work also all my laptops and mobile devices would connect and be able to access the internet without any problem. Now suddenly since yesterday (with no changes made whatsoever to this config) all my laptops start showing the limited connection message and cannot connect to the internet. However the desktop which is connected can access the internet. Can someone please guide me on this.
