• get function address from name [.debug_info ??]

  Hi, I was trying to write a small debug utility and for this I need to get the function/global variable address given its name. This is built-in debug utility, which means that the debug utility will run from within the code to be debugged or in plain words I cannot parse the executable file. Now is there a well-known way to do that ? The plan I have is to make the .debug_* sections to to be loaded into to memory [which I plan to do by a cheap trick like this in ld script] .data { *(.data) __sym_start = .; (debug_); __sym_end = .; } Now I have to parse the section to get the information I need, but I am not sure this is doable or is there issues with this - this is all just theory. But it also seems like too much of work :-) is there a simple way. Or if someone can tell upfront why my scheme will not work, it ill also be helpful. Thanks in Advance, Alex.

• Using SSIS to send a HTML E-Mail Message with built-in table of Counts.

  For the record, this can be just as easily done with a .NET class with a DLL call.  The two major reasons for this ending up as a SSIS package are: There are a lot of SQL resources for maintenance, but not as many .NET developers.   Possible Duplicate: How does IPv4 Subnetting Work? For example, I have a computer with a Network Inteface Card (NIC) which is an Ethernet card that is connected by Ethernet cables to a router. There is also another computer with a cable that is connected in another port of the router. This is a Belkin router operating over an Ethernet in the LAN. When I connect to serverfault.com, it maps to an IP address. My computer now has a task of connecting to that IP address. But my computer itself cannot connect to the serverfault IP address. Only the router can. So the task of my computer is to find the IP address associated with the node that will do the routing to the public internet. How does my computer know that a particular IP address in the local network belongs to the router, and is not another computer connected to the network? Is this information configured manually in the operating system itself? Somehow my computer must know that it must send ethernet frames to the router with the expectation that the router will then send the packet to a public IP. How does it know to send it to the router? Is the router's ip address stored in my computer like a key/value pair e.g. "router"="192.168.2.6", so that when I put a public ip address, my computer first knows to connect to 192.168.2.6?

• Do we ethically have the right to use the MAC Address for verification purposes?

  I am writing a program, or starting at the very beginning of it, and I am thinking of purchase verification systems as a final step. I will be catering to Macs, PCs, and possibly Linux if all is said and done. I will also be programming this for smartphones as well using C++ and Objective-C. (I am writing a blueprint before going head first into it) That being said, I am not asking for help on doing it yet, but what I’m looking for is a realistic measurement for what could be expected as a viable and ethical option for purchase verification systems. Apple through the Apple Store, and some other stores out there have their own "You bought it" check. I am looking to use a three prong verification system. Email/password 16 to 32 character serial number using alpha/numeric and symbols with Upper and lowercase variants. MAC Address. The first two are in my mind ok, but I have to ask on an ethical standpoint, is a MAC Address to lock the software to said hardware unethical, or is it smart? I understand if an Ethernet card changes if not part of the logic board, or if the logic board changes so does the MAC address, so if that changes it will have to be re-verified, but I have to ask with how everything is today... Is it ethical to actually use the MAC address as a validation key or no? Should I be forward with this kind of verification system or should I keep it hidden as a secret? Yes I know hackers and others will find ways of knowing what I am doing, but in reality this is why I am asking. I know no verification is foolproof, but making it so that its harder to break is something I've always been interested in, and learning how to program is bringing up these questions, because I don't want to assume one thing and find out it's not really accepted in the programming world as a "you shouldn't do that" maneuver... Thanks in advance... I know this is my first programming question, but I am just learning how to program, and I am just making sure I'm not breaking some ethical programmer credo I shouldn't...

• Cannot submit change of address to subdomain in Google Webmaster Tools?

  I am pointing several domains to one URL, a URL which happens to include a subdomain. ALL of the domains are using 301 redirects to point to this new address. One of the older domains (which used to be a site) is a 'property' in Webmaster Tools, as is the new site (the one with the subdomain.) When registering a 'Change of Address' for the old site with WebmasterTools, it suggests the following method - Set up your content on your new domain. (done) Redirect content from your old site using 301 redirects. (done) Add and verify your new site to Webmaster Tools. (done) Then, directly below that, to proceed, it says Tell us the URL of your new domain: Your account doesn't contain any sites we can use for a change of address. Add and verify the new site, then try again. I have already submitted and verified the new site. The only reason I can fathom I am getting this error is because the new site includes a subdomain. Although I don't foresee getting punished for this, as I am correctly 301 redirecting traffic anyway, I'm curious as to why the Change of Address submission isn't working appropriately for me. Has anyone else had experience with this?

  I have an upload script that write a index.html file, I modified it to mail me the results, however the point to the root, since the email isn't in the root, the image doesn't load. How do I append the code to add "http://www.home.html/uploaded" prior to the ". $value ." so that the images show up in the email. • Application error: fault address 0x00012afb (Expert)

  Hi, I need some "light" to get a solution. Probably there are tons of things that cause this problem, but maybe somebody could help me. Scenario: a Windows server running 24/7 a PostgreSQL database and others server applications (for processing tasks on database, etc...). There are differents servers scenarios (~30), with different hardware and windows versions (XP SP3/ WinServer, etc... all NT based). All aplications were written in Delphi7, and link to DLLs (in D7 also). After some days (sometimes a week, sometimes a couple of months), Windows begins to act strange, like not opening start menu, some buttons are missing in dialogs. And soon some applications do not open, raising a event on eventviewer: Faulting application x, version y, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, fault address 0x00012afb In mean while, others applications open fine, like notepad, iexplore, etc... but SOME of my applications don't, with only event log described above. But if we do not restart system, in a few days even cmd.exe stops open, (and all other applications) with same error on eventlog. I've tried to find 'what' can cause this, but with no sucess. So, and any advice will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

• Apache Mina Server Restart java.net.BindException: Address already in use

  Hello, I have a rather annoying problem in my server application. I bind Apache Mina with the following code: acceptor.bind(new InetSocketAddress(PORT)); Where acceptor is an NioSocketAcceptor. Over a HTTP interface I can shutdown the server so I can restart it. Server.ioAcceptor.unbind(new InetSocketAddress(Server.PORT)); for(IoSession session: Server.ioAcceptor.getManagedSessions().values()){ if(session.isConnected() && !session.isClosing()){ session.close(false); } } Server.ioAcceptor.dispose(); Main.transport.stop(); Logger.getRootLogger().warn("System going down. Request from "+context.getRemoteAddress()); System.exit(10); This is the code I use to stop the Mina server. However if I try to start the server again in the next couple of minutes. (Somewhere between 5 minutes and 15 minutes) I get the following exception on start up: java.net.BindException: Address already in use I also tried a simple ioAcceptor.unbind() but there was no difference. The server runs on Centos 5 with OpenJDK. Apache Mina version is 2.0 RC1. Thank you in advance for any ideas on how to resolve this.

Recommendations included disabling ipv6 (that did not work) and disabling ipv4 and leaving ipv6 (will not work for me as my router and ISP don't support it and so could not test anyway).   I'm writing a small C# application that will use Internet Explorer to interact with a couple a websites, with help from WatiN. However, it will also require from time to time to use a proxy. I've came across Programmatically Set Browser Proxy Settings in C#, but this only enables me to enter a proxy address, and I also need to enter a Proxy username and password. How can I do that? Note: It doesn't matter if a solution changes the entire system Internet settings. However, I would prefer to change only IE proxy settings (for any connection). The solution has to work with IE8 and Windows XP SP3 or higher. I'd like to have the possibility to read the Proxy settings first, so that later I can undo my changes. EDIT With the help of the Windows Registry accessible through Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey, i was able to apply a proxy something like this: RegistryKey registry = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings", true); registry.SetValue("ProxyEnable", 1); registry.SetValue("ProxyServer", "127.0.0.1:8080"); But how can i specify a username and a password to login at the proxy server? I also noticed that IE doesn't refresh the Proxy details for its connections once the registry was changed how can i order IE to refresh its connection settings from the registry? Thanks

Is there a library in .net (C#) which allows me to do this programatically? There are multiple NICs, each which need to be set individually. EDIT Thannk you TimothyP for your example. I was in a rush and had already adapted the example TimothyP linked to, but I would have loved to have had your code sooner. I've also developed a routine using similar techniques for changing the computer name. I'll post it in the future so subscribe to this questions RSS feed if you want to be informed of the update. • WCF - remote service without using IIS - base address?

  I'm trying to get my head around the addressing of WCF services. We have a client-server setup where the server occasionally (maybe once a day) needs to push data to each client. I want to have a lightweight WCF listener service on each client hosted in an NT service to receive that data. We already have such an NT service setup hosting some local WCF services for other tasks so the overhead of this is minimal. Because of existing legacy code on the server I believe the service needs to be exposed as ASMX and use basicHttpBinding to allow it to connect. Each client is registered on the server by the user (they need to configure them individually) so discovery is not the issue. My question is, how does the addressing work? I imagine the user entering the client's address on the server in the form http://0.0.0.0/MyService or even http://hostname/MyService If so, how do I configure the client service in its App.config? Do I use localhost? If not then what is the reccommended way of exposing the service to the server? Note: I don't want to host in IIS as that adds extra requirements to the hardware required for the client. The clients will be almost certainly located on LANs, not over the public internet

• NSMutableDictionary memory / address problem, release does not work?

  I am trying to create a NSMutableDictionary(dictA) with objectA. When I try to view my dictionary(NSLog), each key is pointing to the same address. I have an objectA_1 which is type objectA and used to setup the dictionary. Also, if I try to getObject, I always get the last key/value that was added to the dictionary. I tried setValue and got the same results. Is there something wrong with my objectA? Is the release method not working properly? Am I retaining when I shouldn't? • Reading email address from contacts fails with weird memory issue

  Hi all, I'm stumped. I'm trying to get a list of all the email address a person has. I'm using the ABPeoplePickerNavigationController to select the person, which all seems fine. I'm setting my ABRecordRef personDealingWith; from the person argument to - (BOOL)peoplePickerNavigationController:(ABPeoplePickerNavigationController *)peoplePicker shouldContinueAfterSelectingPerson:(ABRecordRef)person property:(ABPropertyID)property identifier:(ABMultiValueIdentifier)identifier { and everything seems fine up till this point. The first time the following code executes, all is well. When subsequently run, I can get issues. This crashes with a *** -[Not A Type retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x4e9dc60 error. But wait, there's more! I can fix it in either of two ways. Firstly, I can uncomment the NSLog at the top of the function. I get a leak from the NSLog's ABRecordCopyValue every time through, but the code seems to run fine. Also, I can comment out the CFRelease(multi); at the end, which does exactly the same thing. Static compilation errors, but running code. So without a leak, this function crashes. To prevent a crash, I need to haemorrhage memory. Neither is a great solution. Can anyone point out what's going on?

• Delphi Unicode String Type Stored Directly at its Address (or "Unicode ShortString")

  I want a string type that is Unicode and that stores the string directly at the adress of the variable, as is the case of the (Ansi-only) ShortString type. I mean, if I declare a S: ShortString and let S := 'My String', then, at @S, I will find the length of the string (as one byte, so the string cannot contain more than 255 characters) followed by the ANSI-encoded string itself. What I would like is a Unicode variant of this. That is, I want a string type such that, at @S, I will find a unsigned 32-bit integer (or a single byte would be enough, actually) containing the length of the string in bytes (or in characters, which is half the number of bytes) followed by the Unicode representation of the string. I have tried WideString, UnicodeString, and RawByteString, but they all appear only to store an adress at @S, and the actual string somewhere else (I guess this has do do with reference counting and such). Update: The most important reason for this is probably that it would be very problematic if sizeof(string) were variable. I suspect that there is no built-in type to use, and that I have to come up with my own way of storing text the way I want (which actually is fun). Am I right? Update I will, among other things, need to use these strings in packed records. I also need manually to read/write these strings to files/the heap. I could live with fixed-size strings, such as <= 128 characters, and I could redesign the problem so it will work with null-terminated strings. But PChar will not work, for sizeof(PChar) = 1 - it's merely an address. The approach I eventually settled for was to use a static array of bytes. I will post my implementation as a solution later today.

  I'm trying to send a couple of values from an android application to a web service which I've setup. I'm using Http Post to send them but when I run the application I get the error- request time failed java.net.SocketException: Address family not supported by protocol. I get this while debugging with both the emulator as well as a device connected by wifi. • Want to mimic iphone address book search (In terms of interface & interaction)

  Hi, When you do a search in the address book the flow is: 1) Select the search bar 2) The right most transparent a-z index is removed 3) A transparent black window is placed over the current UITableView 4) When you begin typing, a new UITableView is loaded with no data 5) The UITableView is populated with data as you type. 6) If you select an item you are brought to it 7) If you cancel the search you return to the main UITalbeView My first real question is, how do I load a new UITableView when a user begins searching? Is it as easy as popping a new view on the stack? It would then be a seperate .m/.h file with its own implementation? The second question is how do you remove the right most index? Or just that just go away when you render the new (blank) UITableView? I've gotten search working, but mine does it in the same UITableView, which when you start contains like 2K results, is grouped (A results under A Heading, etc) and has a right most index. I'd be happy leaving the results in the table, if I could; 1) Remove the rightmost a-z index 2) Drop the table groupings 3) Tell the view I only have N search results so it will build the scroll bar correctly. • Two Objects created with the same Address in Flex

  Hi, I have an issue in flex which is causing a bit of a headache! I am adding objects to an ArrayCollection but in doing so, another ArrayCollection is also picking up these changes even though there is no binding occurring. I can see from the debug that the two ACs have the same address but for the life of me can't figure out why. I have two Array Collections: model.index.rows //The main array collection model.index.holdRows //The array collection that imitates the above This phantom data binding occurs only for the first iteration in the loop and for all others it will just write it the once. • "Address of" (&) an array / address of being ignored be gcc?

  Hi, I am a teaching assistant of a introductory programming course, and some students made this type of error: char name[20]; scanf("%s",&name); which is not surprising as they are learning... What is surprising is that, besides gcc warning, the code works (at least this part).
