  • Using rounded corners in modern websites with CSS3

    This is going to be the sixth post in a series of posts regarding HTML 5. You can find the other posts here , here, here , here and here.In this post I will provide a hands-on example on how to use rounded corners (rounded corners in CSS3) in your website. I think this is the feature that is most required in the new modern websites.Most websites look great with their lovely round panels and rounded corner tab style menus. We could achieve that effect earlier but we should resort to complex CSS rules and images. I will show you how to accomplish this great feature with the power of CSS 3.We will not use Javascript.Javascript is required for IE 7, IE 8 and the notorious IE 6. The best solution for implementing corners using CSS and Javascript without using images is Nifty corners cube. There are detailed information how to achieve this in the link I provided. This solution is tested in earlier vesrions of IE (IE 6,IE 7,IE 8) and Opera,Firefox,Safari. In order to be absolutely clear this is not (and could not be) a detailed tutorial on HTML 5. There are other great resources for that.Navigate to the excellent interactive tutorials of W3School.Another excellent resource is HTML 5 Doctor.Two very nice sites that show you what features and specifications are implemented by various browsers and their versions are http://caniuse.com/ and http://html5test.com/. At this times Chrome seems to support most of HTML 5 specifications.Another excellent way to find out if the browser supports HTML 5 and CSS 3 features is to use the Javascript lightweight library Modernizr.In this hands-on example I will be using Expression Web 4.0.This application is not a free application. You can use any HTML editor you like.You can use Visual Studio 2012 Express edition. You can download it here.Before I go on with the actual demo I will use the (http://www.caniuse.com) to see the support for web fonts from the latest versions of modern browsers.Please have a look at the picture below. We see that all the latest versions of modern browsers support this feature.We can see that even IE 9 supports this feature.  Let's move on with the actual demo.   • Single-Signon options for Exchange 2010

    We're working on a project to migrate employee email from Unix/open-source (courier IMAP, exim, squirrelmail, etc) to Exchange 2010, and trying to figure out options for single-signon for Outlook Web Access. So far all the options I've found are very ugly and "unsupportable", and may simply not work with Forefront. We already have JA-SIG CAS for token-based single-signon and Shibboleth for SAML. Users are directed to a simple in-house portal (a Perl CGI, really) that they use to sign in to most stuff. We have an HA OpenLDAP cluster that's already synchronized against another AD domain and will be synchronized with the AD domain Exchange will be using. CAS authenticates against LDAP. The portal authenticates against CAS. Shibboleth authenticates with CAS but pulls additional data from LDAP. We're moving in the direction of having web services authenticate against CAS or Shibboleth. (Students are already on SAML/Shibboleth authenticated Google Apps for Education) With Squirrelmail we have a horrible hack linked to from that portal page that authenticates against CAS, gets your original plaintext password (yes, I know, evil), and gives you an HTTP form pre-filled with all the necessary squirrelmail login details with javaScript onLoad stuff to immediately submit the form. Trying to find out exactly what is possible with Exchange/OWA seems to be difficult. "CAS" is both the acronym for our single-signon server and an Exchange component. From what I've been able to tell there's an addon for Exchange that does SAML, but only for federating things like free/busy calendar info, not authenticating users. Plus it costs additional money so there's no way to experiment with it to see if it can be coaxed into doing what we want. Our plans for the Exchange cluster involve Forefront Threat Management Gateway (the new ISA) in the DMZ front-ending the CAS servers. So, the real question: Has anybody managed to make Exchange authenticate with CAS (token-based single-signon) or SAML, or with something I can reasonably likely make authenticate with one of those (such as anything that will accept apache's authentication)? With Forefront? Failing that, anybody have some tips on convincing OWA Forms Based Authentication (FBA) into letting us somehow "pre-login" the user? (log in as them and pass back cookies to the user, or giving the user a pre-filled form that autosubmits like we do with squirrelmail). This is the least-favorite option for a number of reasons, but it would (just barely) satisfy our requirements. From what I hear from the guy implementing Forefront, we may have to set OWA to basic authentication and do forms in Forefront for authentication, so it's possible this isn't even possible. I did find CasOwa, but it only mentions Exchange 2007, looks kinda scary, and as near as I can tell is mostly the same OWA FBA hack I was considering slightly more integrated with the CAS server. It also didn't look like many people had had much success with it. And it may not work with Forefront. There's also "CASifying Outlook Web Access 2", but that one scares me, too, and involves setting up a complex proxy config, which seems more likely to break. And, again, doesn't look like it would work with Forefront. Am I missing something with Exchange SAML (OWA Federated whatchamacallit) where it is possible to configure to do user authentication and not just free/busy access authorization?

I have decided to write a few posts demonstrating the various techniques I used with JQuery to achieve the desired functionality. ?here are other posts in my blog regarding JQuery.You can find them all here.I have received some comments from visitors of this blog that are "complaining" about the length of the blog posts. I will not write lengthy posts anymore...I mean I will try not to do so..We will demonstrate this with a step by step example. I will use Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. You can also use Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition. You can also use VS 2010 editions. 1) Launch Visual Studio. Create an ASP.Net Empty Web application. Choose an appropriate name for your application.2) Add a web form, default.aspx page to the application.3) Add a table from the HTML controls tab control (from the Toolbox) on the default.aspx page4) Now we need to download the JQuery library.   • urllib2 misbehaving with dynamically loaded content

So the HTML that arrived was a sort of skeleton and ajax was used to fill in the gaps. This is fine and not at all surprising Since the page should be seo friendly it should work fine without js. in step 4 nothing happens in the console and the skeleton page loads pre-populated rendering the ajax unnecessary. This is also completely not confusing in step 7 the ajax calls are made but fail. this is also ok since the urls they are using are not local, the calls are thus broken. The page looks like the skeleton. This is also great and expected. in step 8: no ajax calls are made and the skeleton is just a skeleton. I would have thought that this should behave very much like in step 4 question What I want to do is use urllib2 to grab the html from step 4 but I cant figure out how. What am I missing and how could I pull this off? To paraphrase If I was writing a spider I would want to be able to grab plain ol' HTML (as in that which resulted in step 4). I dont want to execute ajax stuff or any javascript at all. I don't want to populate anything dynamically. I just want HTML. The seo friendly site wants me to get what I want because that's what seo is all about. How would one go about getting plain HTML content given the situation I outlined? To do it manually I would turn off js, navigate to the page and copy the html. I want to automate this. stuff I've tried I used wireshark to look at packet headers and the GETs sent off from my pc in steps 2 and 4 have the same headers. Reading about SEO stuff makes me think that this is pretty normal otherwise techniques such as hijax wouldn't be used. Here are the headers my browser sends: Host: groupon.cl User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-gb,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Connection: keep-alive Here are the headers my script sends: Accept-Encoding: identity Host: groupon.cl Accept-Language: en-gb,en;q=0.5 Connection: close Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 User-Agent: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0 The differences are: my script has Connection = close instead of keep-alive. I can't see how this would cause a problem my script has Accept-encoding = identity. This might be the cause of the problem. I can't really see why the host would use this field to determine the user-agent though. If I change encoding to match the browser request headers then I have trouble decoding it. I'm working on this now... watch this space, I'll update the question as new info comes up

  • Rendering a UIWebView in drawRect with loadHTMLString

    Hello there, I am having a problem with UIWebView. I'd like to render my own html code in it. When I add a webview as a subview and put in some html code it renders just fine. When it gets down to some optimized drawing of tableview cell with the drawRect method the problem pops up. Drawing UIView descendants works pretty well this way. It's even possible to load a URL with the loadRequest method, setting the delegate, conforming to the UIWebViewDelegate protocol and redrawing the table cell with setNeedsDisplay when webViewDidFinishLoad is called. It does show, but when it comes to loadHTMLString, nothing shows up, only a white rect. Due to performance reasons I have to do the drawing in the drawRect method. Any ideas?   • virt-install error: Host does not support any virtualization options

    Completed CentOS 5.4 perfect install from howtoforge.com (ISPConfig 3). I have ISPConfig 3 deployed with a handful of sites. I installed xen: yum install xen kernel-xen i installed the recommended (linuxtopia.org) virtualization packages and started libvirtd yum install virt-manager libvirt libvirt-python libvirt-python python-virtinst i have damn small linux .iso in /root virt-install --name damnsmall --ram 16 --file=/var/lib/xen/images/damnsmall.img --file-size=1 --vnc --cdrom=/root/current.iso yields the error: ERROR Host does not support any virtualization options i have also tried this from GNOME (virt-manager) and i cant even add a connection. i read somewhere i need to reboot with the xen kernel--i dont think i want to do that--though, not really sure why. i need to keep ISPConfig untouched. Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need additional info

I just want to display my text in selected area and want to use only vertical scroll-bar to go down and read all text.   • Linux Virtualization Options on EC2

    I need to subdivide EC2 (or perhaps other cloud provider) instances. I know you cannot run a full virtualization stack on another. For instance a Xen guest cannot host a VirtualBox guest. So this means I am left with operating system-level virtualization. EC2 kernels are only publishable by select vendors, so you cannot upload the custom kernels required for OpenVZ or Vserver. For Linux, I think this leaves me with lxc (on Ubuntu 9.10), User Mode Linux, or qemu. I'm having a hard time finding comparisons between them. Performance is a concern, as is the ability to provide SMP to the guests. I would also like to use COW/sparse roots to reduce guest provisioning. My question is, what are the trade-offs between these options?

  • Magento MAGMI: Product attributes (custom options) not showing up in import

    When importing a CSV into Magento with the MAGMI importing tool, I am unable to import Custom Options (as in size: smalee/medium/large). The import manages to put in the basic products, but the Custom Options don't transfer accross. By custom options I mean the fields Title, Input Type, Is Required, Sort Order Title, Price, Price Type, SKU, Sort Order Title, Price, Price Type, SKU, Sort Order Title, Price, Price Type, SKU, Sort Order and so on ... Found in the custom options menu... Even using the example CSV from the MAGMI SourceForge Wiki: sku,name,description,price,Size:drop_down:1 T-Shirt1,T-Shirt,A T-Shirt,5.00,Small|Medium|Large T-Shirt2,T-Shirt2,Another T-Shirt,6.00,XS|S|M|L|XL ...it fails to import the attributes. So i'm simply using MAGMI with the supplied example data from SourceForge on a blank magento product list, and it doesn't transfer properly. Can anyone shed any light on what might be wrong? I am using Magento ver. 1.6.1.0 if that changes anything. Thanks.

  • XSL Template outputting massive chunk of text, rather than HTML. But only on one section

    I'm having a slightly odd situation with an XSL template. Most of it outputs fine, but a certain for-each loop is causing me problems.     I'm migrating from an archaic version of Red Hat to Ubuntu 9. When going through my old nfs mount script, I found that it contained the -P option. So my script looks like: sudo mount -t nfs -o -P ... It looks like the -P is one of the -o options. My question is: what does the -P option do? I've searched every man page I can find, with no luck. Could it have to do with privileged ports?

My VERY poor piece of Javascript says this so far : $(document).ready(function() { $('#event_time_start_hours').change(function() { if($('#event_time_start_hours').val('midnight')) { $('#event_time_start_minutes').val('00'); } }); }); ... and whilst I'm not terribly surprised it doesn't work, I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I want to do this purely for visual reasons for the user as when the form submits I ignore the "minutes" and "am/pm". I'm trying to decide whether it would be best to change the selected values, change the selected values and then disable the element or hide them altogether. However, without any success in getting anything to happen at all I haven't been able to try the different approaches to see what feels right. I've ruled out the obvious things like a duplicate element ID or simply not linking to JQuery. Thank you.

For example, user A can reply to [email protected] once and subsequent emails from user A to [email protected] will not go through until certain actions are taken. I am looking for something simple and customizable, preferably open-sourced. I am fluent in most modern languages. What email servers do you guys recommend for this? Mailgun looks promising, but are there any simpler options?

    I'm trying to get my Xen Dom0 distributing the irqs in an smp enviroment. As far as I know there are 2 Options: Use irqbalance Configure the kernel without cpu hotplug support My System is Debian Squeeze, Xen 4.0.4, Kernel 3.2.31. My Problem is: irqbalance segfaults due to a changed /proc/irq* layout or irq0 missing (this seems to be a very old bug existing since Lenny) To configure a kernel without cpu hotplug support you must disable cpu powermanagement which seems to be impossible through the standard wys (make config / make menuconfig) - the option CONFIG_PM simply defaults to "Y". Any idea anyone on how to get a debian dom0 kernel with a proper irq distribution?

    I'm using .NET WebBrowser control. How do I know when a web page is fully loaded? I want to know when the browser is not fetching any more data. (The moment when IE writes 'Done' in its status bar...). Notes: The DocumentComplete/NavigateComplete events might occur multiple times for a web site containing multiple frames. The browser ready state doesn't solve the problem either. I have tried checking the number of frames in the frame collection and then count the number of times I get DocumentComplete event but this doesn't work either. this.WebBrowser.IsBusy doesn't work either. It is always 'false' when checking it in the Document Complete handler.

    Hello guys, i have a web form who send post variables like: <form action="teacher.php" method="post"> <input name="pass" type="password"> <input name="quiere" type="image" value="submit" src="IMG/unlock-32.png" /> </from> In the same page i check for a submit acction with php doing a simple isset check like: "if (isset($_POST['quiere'])) {" But if you do this in IE the post var "QUIERE" (the button var) does not post, the others vars are fine, and if you try this simple form in any other browser it works. I only get this form function well in IE changing the button for a normal button, instead of a image button like: <input name="quiere" type="submit" value="submit" /> In this way, the var "quiere" get post. So, what do you think? and sorry for my english.

Just to take from what I current have, I have: <head> <style> external stylesheet <meta> <title> <link> to favicon <script> for jQuery <script> main javascript for site <script> google analytics, asynchronous script. </head> Are there reasons to order these differently so that load times and other issues happen more smoothly, and if so, what would the ideal order be?
