  • Copying a field to another table in Access

    I'm a bit embarassed asking this here, but here goes: I've got two tables, which you can see here: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/4562/query.jpg I need to copy the effortid from the one table into the other, making sure that the values still maintain the correction relationships. The primary key for each is a combination of loggerid & datetime. What's the best way to do this? Thanks in advance, and don't make fun :)

    OK, so say I have a table with 500K rows, then I ad-hoc query with unsupported indexing which requires a full table scan. I would like to immediately view the first rows returned while the full table scan continues. Then I want to scroll thru the next results. In the meantime, I would like to display the progress of the table scan, example: "SEARCHING.. FOUND 23 OF 500,000 ROWS SO FAR". If I scroll too far ahead, I want to display a message like: "REACHED LAST ROW IN LOOK-AHEAD BUFFER.. QUERY HAS NOT COMPLETED".. Can this be done? Maybe like: spawn/exec, declare scroll cursor, open, fetch, etc.?

  • question about frequency of updating access

    i have a table in an access database this access database is used on a regular basis, basically from 9-5 someone else has a copy of this exact table. sometimes records are added, sometimes deleted, and sometimes data within the records is updated. i need to update the access database table with the offsite table every hour or so. what is the best algorithm of updating the data? there are about 5000 records. would it severely lock up the table for a few seconds every hour? i would like to publicly apologize for my rude comment to david fenton

  • How to combine two sql queries?

    Hi Guys, I have a stock table and I would like to create a report that will show how often were items ordered. "stock" table: item_id | pcs | operation apples | 100 | order oranges | 50 | order apples | -100 | delivery pears | 100 | order oranges | -40 | delivery apples | 50 | order apples | 50 | delivery Basically I need to join these two queries together. A query which prints stock balances: SELECT stock.item_id, Sum(stock.pcs) AS stock_balance FROM stock GROUP BY stock.item_id; A query which prints sales statistics SELECT stock.item_id, Sum(stock.pcs) AS pcs_ordered, Count(stock.item_id) AS number_of_orders FROM stock GROUP BY stock.item_id, stock.operation HAVING stock.operation="order"; I think that some sort of JOIN would do the job but I have no idea how to glue queries together. Desired output: item_id | stock_balance | pcs_ordered | number_of_orders apples | 0 | 150 | 2 oranges | 10 | 50 | 1 pears | 100 | 100 | 1 This is just example. Maybe, I will need to add more conditions because there is more columns. Is there a universal technique of combining multiple queries together?

  • Row Source - combo box, filtering what pops up in a combo box by date

    so I have a combo box that I want to pop up when somebody wants to search by year. It will allow them to see in that combo box only results that happened in a certain year. so far I have something like SELECT DISTINCT Database_New.ASEC FROM Database_New WHERE (((Database_New.Date) >= DateValue('01/01/2001') AND (((Database_New.Date) <= DateValue('12/031/2001'))); or SELECT DISTINCT Database_New.ASEC FROM Database_New WHERE (((Database_New.Date) >= BETWEEN DateValue('01/01/2001') AND DateValue('12/31/2001’))); as you can see, the kicker is that I am already sorting the thing with SELECT DISTINCT under the ASEC field. But I want to filter it one more by year so a whole bunch of ASEC values that didnt happen in that year (and there are quite a few that happen rarely, or would onyl be associeted with one year) do not pop up as avalible. so far I get an error like "Syntax error in query expression '(((Database_New.Date) = DateValue('01/01/2001') AND (((Database_New.Date) <= DateValue('12/031/2001')))' and I am a VBA person, not quite as good at debuggin SQL. Is it something easy? or will it simply not work the way I have it set up.

    Recently at a job interview I was given the following problem: Write a script capable of running on the command line as python It should take in two words on the command line (or optionally if you'd prefer it can query the user to supply the two words via the console). Given those two words: a. Ensure they are of equal length b. Ensure they are both words present in the dictionary of valid words in the English language that you downloaded. If so compute whether you can reach the second word from the first by a series of steps as follows a. You can change one letter at a time b. Each time you change a letter the resulting word must also exist in the dictionary c. You cannot add or remove letters If the two words are reachable, the script should print out the path which leads as a single, shortest path from one word to the other. You can /usr/share/dict/words for your dictionary of words. My solution consisted of using breadth first search to find a shortest path between two words. But apparently that wasn't good enough to get the job :( Would you guys know what I could have done wrong?     I have a DOS batch file that show some results on the cmd console. I want users to press Enter to run program or press any other key on the keyboard to exit. I don't want to use options/choices because in that case user will have to enter at least something which I need to check and set the action. Example: At the end of the cmd console something say like this Press ENTER to open abc.exe or press any key on the keyboard to exit! Thanks!

  • xperf can't load my DLL's symbols

    I'm trying to use xperf to profile my DLL, but it refuses to use my DLL's PDB file. Running xperf on the .etl with -symbols, I get: DBGHELP: mydll- private symbols & lines C:\mydll\debugu\mydll.pdb - unmatched Which leads me to believe it thinks my PDB doesn't match the DLL the application is using. This is wrong; it does match. I've confirmed the path of the DLL the application is linking with using procexp, completely rebuilt the project, and so on. It still thinks it doesn't match. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

    I am working with an Access 2003 database that has a subroutine using DAO code. This code loops through the table definitions and refreshes the ODBC connection string. I would like to convert this to ADO so I do not have to reference the DAO object library. Here is the code ... Eliminate any rows that is NOT duplicate (not everybody in this file has been admitted again) and compare the dates to get the ReAdmitdate and ReDischargedate I dumped the data into a SQL table and trying to compare the dates to figure out "ReAdmitdate" and "ReDischargedate" any help is appreciated. For me as a .NET developer it would be great to choose and implement Dynamics CRM because of extensibility and perfect integration with .NET environment and well-known tools. All marketing blahbla sounds great but I'd like to know about common DISADVANTAGES, ISSUES concerning this system. The most important is how it is performing in a company with about 150 concurrent and very active users. I heard that is't really slow comparing to competitors system. In order to do that, they need an ODBC connection to the SQL server installed on their machines. I am looking for a way to do this remotely. Either through VBA in the database itself or perhaps a Batch file linked to their shortcut....I am open to ideas....

  • Expression Too Complex In Access 2007

    When I try to run this query in Access through the ODBC interface into a MySQL database I get an "Expression too complex in query expression" error. The essential thing I'm trying to do is translate abbreviated names of languages into their full body English counterparts. I was curious if there was some way to "trick" access into thinking the expression is smaller with sub queries, or if someone else had a better idea of how to solve this problem. I thought about making a temporary table and doing a join on it, but that's not supported in Access SQL. Just as an FYI, the query worked fine until I added the big long IFF chain. I tested the query on a smaller IFF chain for three languages, and that wasn't an issue, so the problem definitely stems from the huge IFF chain (It's 26 deep). Also, I might be able to drop some of the options (like combining the different forms of Chinese or Portuguese) As a test, I was able to get the SQL query to work after paring it down to 14 IFF() statements, but that's a far cry from the 26 languages I'd like to represent. The list of languages should have been a table in the database and the login.lang should have been a FK into that table. Unfortunately this isn't how the database was written, and it's not really mine to modify. The languages are placed into the login.lang field by the PHP running on top of the database.

  • Windows repair console, impossible?

    I found an old Windows XP SP2 in my -trash- cd can and tried it on a 30 GB FAT32 partition. Installation went fine till the copying operation was completed and XP asked for reboot. After that either it starts over again or throws invalid disk. Starting over is an infinite loop the only way I see is to choose the "Repair console" but I'm not used to a DOS box. Can anyone help me through this harmful installation?

    I have built a Library project (DLL) in .NET. And sometimes I use the DLL along with its PDB file as a reference in some other projects. Now in the new project, I cant browse through the code of the DLL to debug. I can only see the definitions of class/methods/variables. That's by using "show definition" by browsing through the "class view" However, only in case of an exception I the contents of the DLL opens and I could see the entire code of the DLL from the new project. How could I see the contents (code) of the DLL before an exception occur?

  • Linking Excel and Access

    I run a sports program where i have a master roll of who is in which class in excel. I want to link this to a database in access that stores the other information about each athlete, e.g. address, parents name, school, medical details. I want to be able to add names to class in the excel speadsheet and have this automatically generate a record for that person in access. There also needs to be some failsafe for athletes that are in multiple classes. I was also doing class roles as pivot tables out of the access database so i need to code for classes and also have this allow for athletes in multiple classes/disciplines.

    I have two datagridviews. So for the second one, i just copy-pasted the code from the first and changed where the difference was. But i get an error at the secod data grid when i want to view the result of my sql code. Translated in english the error show something like that there was no value given to at least one required parameter.   • How do I merge multiple PDB files ?

    We are currently using a single command line tool to build our product on both Windows and Linux. Si far its works nicely, allowing us to build out of source and with finer dependencies than what any of our previous build system allowed. This buys us great incremental and parallel build capabilities. To describe shortly the build process, we get the usual: .cpp -- cl.exe --> .obj and .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .dll .lib .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .exe .pdb The msvc C/C++ compiler supports it adequately. Recently the need to build a few static libraries emerged. From what we gathered, the process to build a static library is: multiple .cpp -- cl.exe --> multiple .obj and a single .pdb multiple .obj -- lib.exe --> a single .lib The single .pdb means that cl.exe should only be executed once for all the .cpp sources. This single execution means that we can't parallelize the build for this static library. This is really unfortunate. We investigated a bit further and according to the documentation (and the available command line options): cl.exe does not know how to build static libraries lib.exe does not know how to build .pdb files Does anybody know a way to merge multiple PDB files ? Are we doomed to have slow builds for static libraries ? How do tools like Incredibuild work around this issue ?

  • How to quickly analyse large MDB file

    I need to know how to quickly analyse a large MDB file (about 1GB) to see which tables are causing it to be so big. Is there something will easily allow me to show a breakdown of which tables are responsible for how much data. I need to know whether it is just this one customer who is using the application differently, or whether there is genuinely a lot of data in the MDB. This MDB is currently causing the VB app to crash, and I need to know why it is so big so that I can maybe think about how to put some of the data into another 'archival' MDB. Migrating to SQL Server is not an option, unless the use of linked tables from an MDB is a realistic option.
