• Servlet/JSP Flow Control: Enums, Exceptions, or Something Else?

  I recently inherited an application developed with bare servlets and JSPs (i.e.: no frameworks). I've been tasked with cleaning up the error-handling workflow. Currently, each <form> in the workflow submits to a servlet, and based on the result of the form submission, the servlet does one of two things: If everything is OK, the servlet either forwards or redirects to the next page in the workflow. If there's a problem, such as an invalid username or password, the servlet forwards to a page specific to the problem condition. For example, there are pages such as AccountDisabled.jsp, AccountExpired.jsp, AuthenticationFailed.jsp, SecurityQuestionIncorrect.jsp, etc. I need to redesign this system to centralize how problem conditions are handled. So far, I've considered two possible solutions: Exceptions Create an exception class specific to my needs, such as AuthException. Inherit from this class to be more specific when necessary (e.g.: InvalidUsernameException, InvalidPasswordException, AccountDisabledException, etc.). Whenever there's a problem condition, throw an exception specific to the condition. Catch all exceptions via web.xml and route them to the appropriate page(s) with the <error-page> tag. enums Adopt an error code approach, with an enum keeping track of the error code and description. The descriptions can be read from a resource bundle in the finished product. I'm leaning more toward the enum approach, as an authentication failure isn't really an "exceptional condition" and I don't see any benefit in adding clutter to the server logs. Plus, I'd just be replacing one maintenance headache with another. Instead of separate JSPs to maintain, I'd have separate Exception classes. I'm planning on implementing "error" handling in a servlet that I'm writing specifically for this purpose. I'm also going to eliminate all of the separate error pages, instead setting an error request attribute with the error message to display to the user and forwarding back to the referrer. Each target servlet (Logon, ChangePassword, AnswerProfileQuestions, etc.) would add an error code to the request and redirect to my new servlet in the event of a problem.   I am having an issue consuming a webservice (c#.net) from a WCF service. The error i am getting is EndPointNotFoundException "TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it" I wrote a unit test to check if i could send a request to the web service and it worked fine [The unit test is using the same binding configuration as my WCF service] The web service and WCF service (client) have basichttp binding. Did anyone had similar kind of issue calling a webservice from a WCF service? Is that referencing a header file, or is that letting the compiler know that this class is being over ridden. The below implementation works perfectly but the time taken for the execution is in min. Is there a better way of implementing or is there any in-efficient operation being used. From my observation the code where the preceding text length is calculated consumes the major time. Please share your thoughts to improve the performance of the XSL.   So my problem is kinda weird, it only occurs when I test the application offline (on my PC with WampServer), the same code works 100% correctly online. But it doesn't work :( I've looked in EXSLT stylesheet and it has got the logic to do that. Also there is logic to display the name of the week for a day using 'E' pattern, which doesn't work for me. • How to manage a MotionEvent going from one View to another?

  I have a SurfaceView that takes up part of the screen, and some buttons along the bottom. When a button is pressed and the user drags, I want to be able to drag a picture (based on the button) onto the SurfaceView and have it drawn there. I want to be able to use clickListeners and the like, and not just have a giant SurfaceView with me writing code to detect where the user pressed and if it's a button, etc. I have somewhat of a solution, but it seems a bit of a hack to me. What is the best way to accomplish this using the framework intelligently? • Encode audio to aac with libavcodec

  I'm using libavcodec (latest git as of 3/3/10) to encode raw pcm to aac (libfaac support enabled). I do this by calling avcodec_encode_audio repeatedly with codec_context-frame_size samples each time. The first four calls return successfully, but the fifth call never returns. When I use gdb to break, the stack is corrupt. If I use audacity to export the pcm data to a .wav file, then I can use command-line ffmpeg to convert to aac without any issues, so I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong. I've written a small test program that duplicates my problem. Ultimately what I'm trying to achieve is using width & precision specifiers for strings with format. boost::format does not support the use of the * width & precision specifiers, as indicated in the docs: Width or precision set to asterisk (*) are used by printf to read this field from an argument. e.g. printf("%1$d:%2$.*3$d:%4$.*3$d\n", hour, min, precision, sec); This class does not support this mechanism for now. so such precision or width fields are quietly ignored by the parsing. so I'm trying to find other ways to accomplish the same goal.   Hello, I'm working on a fancy login page with 4 unique states attributed through classes for each field (normal, focus, active-on, active-off). Normal is the default style. Focus is the focus style when nothing is typed. Active-on is the focus style when something has been typed. Active-off is for field that have user text in them, but are not focused right now. Here's a demo to help you understand what I'm doing: http://www.controlstack.com/login My JS is working almost correctly (thanks to some folks on this site), except in 2 cases: If I enter something in the username field, then tab over to the password field, it does not add the ".focus" class to the password field. If I blur out of the username field, then focus back on it, enter a few characters, then delete them, it does not add the ".focus" field. • Error while deploying a web application in OSGI container using pax web

  Hello I am trying to deploy a web application in a Felix container. I have all the required configuration done with my web app like the setting up of the manifest headers: Webapp-Context: Bundle-ClassPath: Bundle-Activator: Import-Package: Bundle-SymbolicName: etc The Pax bundles that I have dropped in the same container are: pax-web-service-0.6.0.jar pax-web-jsp-0.7.1.jar pax-web-extender-war-0.7.1.jar pax-logging-service-1.5.0.jar pax-logging-api-1.5.0.jar Though it had been written in the pax web site that pax-web-service is included in pax-war-extender, it seems without pax-web-service bundle, all other bundles become handicapped. I had removed the other pax bundles like pax-web-extender-whiteboard-0.7.1.jar pax-web-jetty-0.7.1.jar, as I have not seen any usefulness of those. The pax-web-jetty-0.7.1.jar even does not get start up. it has dependencies which it could not be able to resolve from any one of the bundle provided by PAX. My browser is displaying: HTTP ERROR 403 Problem accessing /adminmodule/.   My java scirpt is not working right. It is simple pre-vailidation form and I can not get the script to work. It is supposed to validate each field but I can not get it to validate past the first name. • RSS feed doesnt display items. Only title

  So i just made my first RSS feed, or so i tought, in combination with CI. Now my view DOES display the top of my rss page (Title and Description), But all items are omitted. When i rightclick-view source it DOES contain all the items within the item tags. Can anyone help me?
