  • How to open AsyncTask from a Thread

    - by Abhishek
In my application I have created a SplashScreen that will b shown for 5 Seconds and after that it executes an if else case depending upon the values stored in the Preference file. If Preference file contains values then the AsyncTask code will run else the Login form will load. When i try to run my application. The thread is going to the Login form with the help of intent but when it comes to AsyncTask my application shows a force close error message. This is my SplashScreen code: public class SplashScreen extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.splashscreen); Thread timer = new Thread() { public void run() { try { sleep(5000); } catch(InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if(GoGolfPref.getEmail(SplashScreen.this)!=null && GoGolfPref.getPass(SplashScreen.this)!=null) { new LoadingScreen(SplashScreen.this, SplashScreen.this).execute("login_page", Login.url+GoGolfPref.getEmail(SplashScreen.this)+"/"+GoGolfPref.getPass(SplashScreen.this)); } else { Intent in = new Intent(SplashScreen.this, Login.class); startActivity(in); finish(); } } } }; timer.start(); } } This is the error I am getting: 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): FATAL EXCEPTION: Thread-10 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): java.lang.RuntimeException: Can't create handler inside thread that has not called Looper.prepare() 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at android.os.Handler.<init>(Handler.java:121) 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at android.app.Dialog.<init>(Dialog.java:101) 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at android.app.AlertDialog.<init>(AlertDialog.java:63) 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at android.app.ProgressDialog.<init>(ProgressDialog.java:80) 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at android.app.ProgressDialog.<init>(ProgressDialog.java:76) 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at com.pnf.gogolf.LoadingScreen.<init>(LoadingScreen.java:130) 08-29 07:25:58.040: E/AndroidRuntime(2365): at com.pnf.gogolf.SplashScreen$1.run(SplashScreen.java:32) How to get this working? If you have any info about my question, let me know it frankly.

  • Sockets receiving null (Android)

    - by Henrik
I have a android app that is communicating with a server (written in java). Between these two parts I have established a Socket connection and want to send data. The problem I am having is that sometimes, for some users, the information that reaches the server is null. This works (for all phones, all users): Server: int a = Integer.parseInt(in.readLine()); int b = Integer.parseInt(in.readLine()); int c = Integer.parseInt(in.readLine()); int d = Integer.parseInt(in.readLine()); String checksum = in.readLine(); String model = in.readLine(); String device = in.readLine(); String name = in.readLine(); Client: out.println(a); out.println(b); out.println(c); out.println(d); out.println(hash); out.println(Build.MODEL); out.println(Build.DEVICE); String name = fixName(); out.print(name); out.flush(); This does not work (for some users): Server: int a = Integer.parseInt(in.readLine()); String checksum = in.readLine(); String model = in.readLine(); String device = in.readLine(); String name = in.readLine(); String msg = in.readLine(); int version = -1; String test = "hej"; try{ test = in.readLine(); version = Integer.parseInt(test); }catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); } Client: out.println(a); out.println(hash); out.println(Build.MODEL); out.println(Build.DEVICE); String name = fixName(); if(name == null) name = "John Doe"; out.println(name); String msg = fixMsg(); if(msg == null) name = "nada"; out.println(msg); out.println(curversion); out.flush(); Sometimes, in the second case, the name, msg, and version (the string test) are null at the server side. The catch is triggered because test is null. curversion,a are ints, the rest are strings. Any ideas?

  • Current iOS version/device statistics?

    - by hotpaw2
The answer to this SO question has become stale: iOS version/device statistics - where can i find? because time currency wasn't part of that question, and iOS version updates have been release since this question was asked. Is there a web site or other publicly available source which keeps a current or frequently updated list of the percentages of iOS devices and OS versions in use, perhaps by continual monitoring of app analytics or web site logs or other means? And what device or OS information are iOS app analytics currently allowed to report, if any? (...assuming an appropriate privacy policy and adhering to such, of course.)

I've noticed a couple of Android applications that seem to be using a 3rd party crash reporting tool. Has anyone seen this screen and do you know where I can find it? I started using http://code.google.com/p/android-remote-stacktrace/ but i rather not require internet permissions if I can use an intent to send emails.

  • Android Convert Video To MP4

    - by Isaac Waller
I have a Android app. It recieves videos in .flv format which is unplayable by the Android phone. I was wondering how to convert the file to MP4. I could use FFMPEG, but I do not know how I would get it onto the phone, and how it would work on multiple phones if it was compiled for a single one.

  • Android WebView seems to ignore "viewport" information on web pages

    - by Evan
I have a website that is using the viewport META tag to tell mobile browsers how to display content ( ). Viewing the page in the Android browser looks correct (and iPhone, etc). When I load the page into a WebView component in an android Application, the WebView ignores the "VIEWPORT" tag, and renders the page at "full" resolution, which is zoomed-in in this case.

  • No resource type specified (at 'id' with value '@+id\st')

    - by Refaat
I'm new at android programming, I'm now trying to make some buttons, I configured these buttons using the following code: The MainActivity class : public class MainActivity extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ Button st,nd,center; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); st = (Button)findViewById(R.id.st); st = (Button)findViewById(R.id.center); st = (Button)findViewById(R.id.nd); } } and the XML Layout: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/background" > <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Hello from animation!!" /> <button android:layout_width="100dp" android:layout_height="50dp" android:text="1st half" android:id="@+id\st" /> // and the other two points defined the same way </LinearLayout> And i got that syntax error: error: Error: No resource type specified (at 'id' with value '@+id\st'). // and the same error with the other two buttons HINT: The R class is imported and accessible from the MainActivity class but it can't read R.id.

  • YouTube: How to Style an AngularJS App on the Device

    - by Geertjan
I installed the Droid@Screen plugin into NetBeans IDE 8 so that you can see the Android device that I held in my hand while doing the demo below. The demo shows the usage of the Terminal window to create an Ionic Framework application (from "tabs", which is one of the cool templates that the framework provides), i.e., that means I can use AngularJS to create a Cordova application out of the box, with many mobile-oriented components available out of the box. Then I deploy the app to the Chrome browser on Android, which means I can interact with it in NetBeans, e.g., for CSS styling and JavaScript debugging. In this demo, I show how the background color of the deployed app can be changed live from NetBeans. After that, once I'm happy with the styling, I deploy the app again, but this time as a Cordova app, i.e., a hybrid HTML5 application, which means the app is packaged as a native app and deployed directly to the device from NetBeans. All of the above can be viewed here in about 4 minutes in this silent movie: Direct link to the (silent) movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isP5TNI3kYk

  • Securing Mobile Apps in a Bring Your Own Device World

    - by Naresh Persaud
As more and more business users begin using their personal devices to access corporate information and resources, the number of network access requests has risen dramatically.  Access Management products and strategies that were based on an employee accessing network resources from a single desktop PC were never designed to monitor and manage an employee that is using a desktop and a laptop, a tablet, and a smartphone all from outside the corporate network, and possibly from an unsecured wireless public network. A new approach is needed to manage the types and frequency of mobile app access requests - an integrated Platform Approach to Identity and Access Management that is location and device aware, that can warn you of unusual or high risk access.  A platform that provides standard APIs so you can manage your mobile apps the same way that you manage your enterprise apps. • Android multi-touch support

    - by Zdenek F
Hi, I wonder if is the Android multi-touch support reliable? I've read it suffers from some problems. I also wonder, how can I define custom multi-touch gestures? Like: 3 fingers rotate or 3 fingers stay static and fourth is moving. I've come across some resources (Gestures or MotionEvent on developer.android.com) but nothing states it clearly. • Android Couchdb - libcouch and IPC Aidl Services

    - by dirtySanchez
I am working on a native CouchdDB app with android. Now just this week CouchOne released libcouch, described as "Library files needed to interact with CouchDB on Android": couchone_libcouch@Github It is a basic app that installs CouchDB if the CouchDB service (that comes with CouchDB if it was installed previously) can't be bound to. To be more precise, as I understand it: libcouch estimates CouchDb's presence on the device by trying to bind to a IPC Service from CouchDB and through that service wants communicate with CouchDB. Please see the method "attemptLaunch()" at CouchAppLauncher.class for reviewing this: public void attemptLaunch() { Log.i(TAG,"1.) called attemptLaunch"); Intent intent = new Intent(ICouchService.class.getName()); Log.i(TAG,"1.a) setup Intent"); Boolean canStart = bindService(intent, couchServiceConn, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE); Log.i(TAG,"1.b bound service. canStart: " + Boolean.toString(canStart)); if (!canStart) { setContentView(R.layout.install_couchdb); TextView label = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.install_couchdb_text); Button btn = (Button) this.findViewById(R.id.install_couchdb_btn); String text = getString(R.string.app_name) + " requires Apache CouchDB to be installed."; label.setText(text); // Launching the market will fail on emulators btn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { launchMarket(); finish(); } }); } } The question(s) I have about this are: libcouch never is able to "find" a previously installed CouchDB. It always attempts to install CouchDB from the market. This is because it never actually is able to bind to the CouchDBService. As I understand the purpose auf AIDL generated service interfaces, the actual service that intends to offer it's IPC to other applications should make use of AIDL. In this case the AIDL has been moved to the application that is trying to bind to the remote service, which is libcouch in this case. Reviewing the commits the AIDL files have just been moved out of that repository to libcouch. For complete linkage, here's the link to the Android CouchDB sources: github.com/couchone/libcouch-android Now, I could be completely wrong in my findings, it could also be lincouch's Manifest that s missing something, but I am really looking forward to get some answers!

  • create Android .apk from a decompiled .apk

i decompiled an Android .apk file using dex2jar, grabbed the java source files using jd-gui "File Save All Sources" and got a .zip file and the java files within. I did exactly the steps in this "guide": http://a4apphack.com/security/sec-code/extract-android-apk-from-market-and-decompile-it-to-java-source. Then i made some changes in a couple of the java files, now i am wondering how i can recreate an apk file. Decompiling with apktool, backsmali and smali tools work with .smali files, but now i have .java files...
