• PPPTP VPN from Ubuntu cannot connect

  I'm trying to configure under Linux (Kubuntu 9.10) a VPN I already use from Windows. I installed the network-manager-pptp package and added the vpn under Network Manager. • Automatically check for Security Updates on CentOS or Scientific Linux?

  We have machines running RedHat-based distros such as CentOS or Scientific Linux. We want the systems to automatically notify us if there are any known vulnerabilities to the installed packages. FreeBSD does this with the ports-mgmt/portaudit port. RedHat provides yum-plugin-security, which can check for vulnerabilities by their Bugzilla ID, CVE ID or advisory ID. In addition, Fedora recently started to support yum-plugin-security. I believe this was added in Fedora 16. Scientific Linux 6 did not support yum-plugin-security as of late 2011. It does ship with /etc/cron.daily/yum-autoupdate, which updates RPMs daily. I don't think this handles Security Updates only, however. CentOS does not support yum-plugin-security. I monitor the CentOS and Scientific Linux mailinglists for updates, but this is tedious and I want something which can be automated. For those of us who maintain CentOS and SL systems, are there any tools which can: Automatically (Progamatically, via cron) inform us if there are known vulnerabilities with my current RPMs. Optionally, automatically install the minimum upgrade required to address a security vulnerability, which would probably be yum update-minimal --security on the commandline? I have considered using yum-plugin-changelog to print out the changelog for each package, and then parse the output for certain strings. Are there any tools which do this already?

• Using GitOAuthPlugin for Jenkins - not working as expected

  I need some clarity and maybe a fix. I'm using this plugin to authorise who views our Jenkins ci server: https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Github+OAuth+Plugin As I understand it anyone who is auth'd to view one of our github project's can also login to our Jenkins box. This works I thought it would also allow the person logging in to only view the Project that they have GitHub permission on. For instance. Three projects on GitHub (A,B,C). Three builds on Jenkins. User 1 has Git access to all 3 projects (A B C). User 2 has Git access to only 1 project (A). When logging into Jenkins: User 1 can see all 3 projects ( this works ) User 2 can only see project A The problem is User 2 can also see all 3 projects when they should only see 1! Have I got this correct, and if so is this a bug? I have the settings set in Jenkins configuration Github Authorization Settings. Here we have some admin users. One organization. And none out of the 4 checkboxes ticked. (User 2, is not an admin, is not part of the org). The plugin is open sourced here: https://github.com/mocleiri/github-oauth-plugin I was trying to get Jenkins to print me the Logs from the plugin but I also failed at viewing these (to see if there was an issue). • AppDomain dependencies across directories

  I am creating a plugin system and I am creating one AppDomain per plugin. Each plugin has its own directory with its main assemblies and references. The main assemblies will be loaded by my plugin loader, in addition to my interface assemblies (so the plugin can interact with the application). Creating the AppDomain: this.appDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("AppDomain", null, new AppDomainSetup { ApplicationBase = pluginPath, PrivateBinPath = pluginPath, }); Loading the assemblies: this.appDomain.Load(myInterfaceAssembly.GetName(true)); var assemblies = new List<Assembly>(); foreach (var assemblyName in this.assemblyNames) { assemblies.Add(this.appDomain.Load(assemblyName)); } The format of assemblyName is the assembly's filename without ".dll". The problem is that AppDomain.Load(assemblyName) throws an exception: Could not load file or assembly '[[assemblyName]], Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. All of the dependencies of [[assemblyName]] are: Inside the directory pluginPath, The myInterfaceAssembly which is already loaded, or In the GAC (e.g. mscorelib). Clearly I'm not doing something right. I have tried: Creating an object using this.appDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap inheriting from MarshalByRefObject with a LoadAssembly method to load the assembly. I get an exception saying that the current assembly (containing the proxy class) could not be loaded (file not found, as above), even if I manually call this.appDomain.Load(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName(true)). Attaching an AssemblyResolve handler to this.appDomain. I'm met with the same exception as in (1), and manually loading doesn't help. Recursively loading assemblies by loading their dependencies into this.appDomain first. • Can I move the Flash temp folder/buffer (Win64)

  I need to move the folder in which the Flash plugin saves its temporary files (so NOT the browser cache folder). Normally, the plugin saves its buffered content in the default temporary folder of the operating system. However, I do not want to move that folder. In other words, I only need to change the folder which flash uses. My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit. I am using the latest version of the flash plugin.

• CentOS 5 VPN Server won't work

  I have a CentOS 5 server configured to be both a L2TP server and a PPTP server + a radius server for hosting the AAA. My problem is that, the L2TP works great and I can connect to it, but can't connect to PPTP and every-time it ends up with error #619 when it gets to the verifying username and password section. Dec 17 07:40:03 serverdl pptpd[8570]: CTRL: Client 5.52.247.62 control connection finished Just yesterday when I hadn't set up the L2TP yet PPTP was working great but then I uninstalled it and removed all it's config from /etc/* and installed L2TP first and then installed PPTP after it. and then it stopped to work. I believe it must be a radiusclient issue because both of the PPTP and L2TP services use radius to authenticate. And another thing I think must be the issue is that when assigning IPs to the PPP interfaces, I have done the following config. Is that right? For L2TP: localip 10.10.10.1 remoteip 10.10.10.2-254 For PPTP: localip 10.10.9.1 remoteip 10.10.9.2-254

• I deployed Flash Player via a Software Installation policy. How to upgrade?

  I have a Windows Server 2008 machine as my DC. Earlier this year I created a Software Installation GPO to deploy Adobe Flash Player plugin MSI. I assigned the policy to the computers, about half run Windows XP x86 and the other half Windows 7 x64. That all works like clockwork. When I created the Software Installation Policy, I disabled the Flash Player plugin's automatic update feature by editing the MSI in Orca. I did this because I wanted all of my machines to run the exact same version of the plugin. Now, some time has passed and a newer version of the Flash Player plugin has been released. It is time for me to push out the updated version of the plugin. I already have the new MSI, but I am lost on what to do next. I see the upgrades tab in the Software Installation GPO, but everything there reads like that would be used for add-ons to a larger master program and not for updates that are released over time. I have read that it is best to create a new Software Installation policy with the new MSI, revoke the old GPO, and assign the new GPO. I feel as though, over time, I will wind up with more revoked policies than active ones. I have also read that some people have had success by replacing the old MSI with the new MSI and simply telling the GPO to redeploy. This seems like a backdoor method that will only get me in to trouble. In short, what is the correct, best-practice, or preferred way to roll out the new version via Group Policy?

My generic plugin is stored in /etc/puppet/modules/custom/lib/facter but I have a plugin stored inside a module that seems to be pushed to all clients regardless if the host inherits the class or not. • Loading multiple copies of a group of DLLs in the same process

  Background I'm maintaining a plugin for an application. I'm Using Visual C++ 2003. The plugin is composed of several DLLs - there's the main DLL, that's the one that the application loads using LoadLibrary, and there are several utility DLLs that are used by the main DLL and by each other. Dependencies generally look like this: plugin.dll - utilA.dll, utilB.dll utilA.dll - utilB.dll utilB.dll - utilA.dll, utilC.dll You get the picture. Some of the dependencies between the DLLs are load-time and some run-time. All the DLL files are stored in the executable's directory (not a requirement, just how it works now). The problem There's a new requirement - running multiple instances of the plugin within the application. The application runs each instance of a plugin in its own thread, i.e. each thread calls The plugin's code, however, is nothing but thread-safe - lots of global variables etc.. Unfortunately, fixing the whole thing isn't currently an option, so I need a way to load multiple (at most 3) copies of the plugin's DLLs in the same process. Option 1: The distinct names approach Creating 3 copies of each DLL file, so that each file has a distinct name. e.g. plugin1.dll, plugin2.dll, plugin3.dll, utilA1.dll, utilA2.dll, utilA3.dll, utilB1.dll, etc.. The application will load plugin1.dll, plugin2.dll and plugin3.dll. The files will be in the executable's directory. For each group of DLLs to know each other by name (so the inter-dependencies work), the names need to be known at compilation time - meaning the DLLs need to be compiled multiple times, only each time with different output file names. Not very complicated, but I'd hate having 3 copies of the VS project files, and don't like having to compile the same files over and over. Option 2: The side-by-side assemblies approach Creating 3 copies of the DLL files, each group in its own directory, and defining each group as an assembly by putting an assembly manifest file in the directory, listing the plugin's DLLs. Each DLL will have an application manifest pointing to the assembly, so that the loader finds the copies of the utility DLLs that reside in the same directory. The manifest needs to be embedded for it to be found when a DLL is loaded using LoadLibrary. I'll use mt.exe from a later VS version for the job, since VS2003 has no built-in manifest embedding support. I've tried this approach with partial success - dependencies are found during load-time of the DLLs, but not when a DLL function is called that loads another DLL. This seems to be the expected behavior according to this article - A DLL's activation context is only used at the DLL's load-time, and afterwards it's deactivated and the process's activation context is used. I haven't yet tried working around this using ISOLATION_AWARE_ENABLED. Questions Got any other options? Any quick & dirty solution will do. :-) Will ISOLATION_AWARE_ENABLED even work with VS2003? • How do I run Firefox OS as a standalone application?

  I got the add-on for the Firefox OS simulator, and it works great! It even keeps functioning after Firefox is closed, so I can save processing power for other things. I'd like to run it as a standalone application, so that I don't even have to open Firefox in the first place. I've gone to the System Monitor, and it says that the process (I guessed which by CPU usage and filename) was started via /home/james/.mozilla/firefox-trunk/vkuuxfit.default/extensions/[email protected]/resources/r2d2b2g/data/linux64/b2g/plugin-container 3386 true tab, so I tried running that in the Terminal (after I'd closed the simulator, of course,) but it gives this: james@james-OptiPlex-GX620:~/.mozilla/firefox-trunk/vkuuxfit.default/extensions/[email protected]/resources/r2d2b2g/data/linux64/b2g$ ./plugin-container 3386 true tab ./plugin-container: error while loading shared libraries: libxpcom.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory james@james-OptiPlex-GX620:~/.mozilla/firefox-trunk/vkuuxfit.default/extensions/[email protected]/resources/r2d2b2g/data/linux64/b2g$ What should I do? Basically there is an interseting point to see is that there are 2 major partsof whole CI system one performed by build tool and rest. Build tool takes care of all adhoc plugin tools  so no matter if CI tool does not have plugin for that tool if thet tools provides command line support that can be configured in build tool and that build tool is then configured with CI tool inturn. For example if I have a build script configured in MSBuild and CCNet can be easily switched to Hudson. Here we need not to change anything in build script we just need to configure MSBuild on Hudson and pass the path of script file and thats it... all is same.   I use VLC a lot. And when 2.0 came out Ubuntu did not update to that version, the REPO had the older version even months later, So I added the daily repo: http://ppa.launchpad.net/videolan/stable-daily/ubuntu and that worked for a while, after a few months later I received a 'Distribution upgrade' and when I installed it, it removed VLC. when I tried to re-install it gave me a bunch of unmet dependency's, so I disabled the source, ran apt-get update, and tried to install the older VLC, that did not work either.   I am having trouble installing this program. I do not know how to locate the browser plugins directory, or change the directory in the terminal. Installation instructions Installing using the plugin tar.gz: Unpack the plugin tar.gz and copy the files to the appropriate location. Save the plugin tar.gz locally and note the location the file was saved to. Launch terminal and change directories to the location the file was saved to. Unpack the tar.gz file. Once unpacked you will see the following: + libflashplayer.so + /usr Identify the location of the browser plugins directory, based on your Linux distribution and Firefox version Copy libflashplayer.so to the appropriate browser plugins directory. • Belgrade Open Source Software Development Center

  A new Open Source Software Development Center is open at University of Belgrade Serbia. It centers around using Java & NetBeans as open source projects to learn from and contribute to. Assistant Professor Zoran Sevarac says that not only does the center allow him to teach software development using open source projects, but also "we are improving our University courses based on the experience we get from working on open source code."  Some of the projects underway are a NetBeans UML plugin; Neuroph (a Java neural network framework, with a NetBeans Platform-based UI); a NetBeans DOAP Plugin; WorkieTalkie (NetBeans chat plugin); and 2D and 3D visualization plugins for NetBeans.
