  • Using OpenID as the only authentication method

    I have read the other questions and they mostly talk about the security of doing so. That's not entirely my concern, mostly because the website is question is a browser-based game. However, the larger issue is the user - not every user is literate enough to understand OpenID. Sure RPX makes this pretty easy, which is what I'll use, but what if the user does not have an account at Google or Facebook or whatever, or does not trust the system to log in with an existing account? They'd have to get an account at another provide - I'm sure most will know how to do it, let alone be bothered to do it. There is also the problem of how to manage it in the application. A user might want to use multiple identities with a single account, so it's not as simple as username + password to deal with. How do I store the OpenID identities of a user in the database? Using OpenID gives me a benefit too: RPX can provide extensive profile information, so I can just prefill the profile form and ask the user to edit as required. So here are concrete questions: How would I make it accessible to users not having an OpenID or not wanting to use one? (security concerns over say, logging in with their Google account for example) How do I store the identifier in the database? (I'm not sure if the tables above are right) What measures do I need to take in order to prevent someone from logging in as another user and happily doing anything with their account? (as I understand RPX sends the identifier via HTTP, so what anyone would have to do is to just somehow grab it then enter it in the "OpenID" field) What else do I need to be aware of when using OpenID?

  • Core-data: when accessing a relationship, the count method on NSSet fails

    I'm trying to access a relationship (one to many) programatically. My Data model contains an NSManagedEntity called language (with a two string attributes) with a relationship to an entity called WordCategory (one-to-many). I use an NSFetchRequest to get all the Language entities. that works fine. I get the valueForKey for the relationship and that works fine. I can work with its objects. However, when I try to send the message count to the NSSet that stores the WordCategory objects I get a In other words, this line works: NSLog(@"word category count %@",[[wordCategory anyObject] valueForKey:@"name"]); This one doesn't: NSLog(@"word category count %@",[wordCategory count] I get a the message: EXC_BAD_ACCESS in the debugger.   • iPhone, Convenience Method or Alloc / Release?

    Whilst developing for the iPhone I had a stubborn memory leak that I eventually tracked down to NSXMLParser. However whilst looking for that it got me thinking about maybe changing a lot of my convenience methods to alloc/release. Is there any good reason for doing that? In a large app I can see how releasing memory yourself quickly is a better idea, but in a small app is there any other difference between the two methods.   • After Navigate2 Method returns S_OK Stuck at READYSTATE of READYSTATE_LOADING

    I am working on a MFC Document View architecture application which has multiple documents and views and a tabbed window interface. I have been tasked with making an automatic switch to another tab on the press of the OK button in one of the other tabs. When the other tab is clicked on it uses a C++ wrapper over IWebBrowser2 to navigate to a specific web page. When this is done manually by clicking on the tab everything is fine and the webpage within the view loads successfully. In my first attempt at doing this the tab successfully switched in response to a call to AfxGetMainWnd()->SendMessageToDescendants(SOME_MESSAGE, ...); however by sending this windows message at the wrong point the application would crash once control returned because the chain of events caused the (modeless) dialog (*) that sent the message, to no longer exist. I then found the correct place to make the call, but now when the other tab is activated, it no longer displays the webpage as it should. To debug this problem I added code to check the READYSTATE in both the situation where it works and the situation where it does not. When the page fails to load (despite the call to Navigate2 returning S_OK), the READYSTATE just stays at READYSTATE_LOADING. Unfortunately now I am to many edits away from when I had it partially working. I have added TRACE statements to the most obvious events such as OnSetFocus, CView::OnActivateView but all traces come out in the same order despite the behaviour being different * hosted in the view

  • XQuery method question, trying to sum values read from xml

    I'm pretty new to XQuery and I'm trying to write an example function that I can't get to work. I want to read an xml file, parse out the "time" values, sum them as they're read and return the sum. This is trivial and I'm looking to build more functionality into it but I'd like to get this working first. Also, I know there's a "sum" directive in XQuery that would do just this but I want to add more to it so the built-in sum is insufficient for my needs.     Hi all, I try to send a request to my server via GET, but qooxdoo sends request as OPTIONS. Is any way to change this behaviour? I try to use qx.data.store.Json (url) and qx.io.remote.Request (url, "GET", type) but result is same in both cases. My version of qooxdoo is 1.0.1, browsers are FF 3.5.6 and Chromium 5.0.361.

    I've got a UIButton on a table cell that is meant to pop up a UIActionSheet but the problem is the didSelectRowAtIndexPath captures that touch and its action takes precedence. Any clever way to override that action when the user touches the button and still have the default action when the user presses elsewhere in the cell? Too bad there is no MoveToFront property.

  • Most efficient method to query a Young Tableau

    A Young Tableau is a 2D matrix A of dimensions M*N such that: i,j in [0,M)x[0,N): for each p in (i,M), A[i,j] <= A[p,j] for each q in (j,N), A[i,j] <= A[i,q] That is, it's sorted row-wise and column-wise. Since it may contain less than M*N numbers, the bottom-right values might be represented either as missing or using (in algorithm theory) infinity to denote their absence. Now the (elementary) question: how to check if a given number is contained in the Young Tableau ? Well, it's trivial to produce an algorithm in O(M*N) time of course, but what's interesting is that it is very easy to provide an algorithm in O(M+N) time: Bottom-Left search: Let x be the number we look for, initialize i,j as M-1, 0 (bottom left corner) If x == A[i,j], return true If x < A[i,j], then if i is 0, return false else decrement i and go to 2. Else, if j is N-1, return false else increment j This algorithm does not make more than M+N moves. The correctness is left as an exercise. It is possible though to obtain a better asymptotic runtime. Pivot Search: Let x be the number we look for, initialize i,j as floor(M/2), floor(N/2) If x == A[i,j], return true If x < A[i,j], search (recursively) in A[0:i-1, 0:j-1], A[i:M-1, 0:j-1] and A[0:i-1, j:N-1] Else search (recursively) in A[i+1:M-1, 0:j], A[i+1:M-1, j+1:N-1] and A[0:i, j+1:N-1] This algorithm proceed by discarding one of the 4 quadrants at each iteration and running recursively on the 3 left (divide and conquer), the master theorem yields a complexity of O((N+M)**(log 3 / log 4)) which is better asymptotically. However, this is only a big-O estimation... So, here are the questions: Do you know (or can think of) an algorithm with a better asymptotical runtime ? Like introsort prove, sometimes it's worth switching algorithms depending on the input size or input topology... do you think it would be possible here ? For 2., I am notably thinking that for small size inputs, the bottom-left search should be faster because of its O(1) space requirement / lower constant term.

    Hi Everyone, I am having trouble copying file using SVNKit. After copying the files from source to destination files end up one folder above the intended folder. For ex: When copying files from "https://example.com/svn/repos/trunk/project/src/ex.txt" to "https://example.com/svn/repos/branches/PackageN/project/src", files end up in "project" folder inside PackageN while my intention is to move it to "src" folder inside "project.   • objective-c default init method for class?

    Hello, I have two differing methods for initializing my objective-c class. One is the default, and one takes a configuration parameter. Now, I'm pretty green when it comes to objective-c, but I've implemented these methods and I'm wondering if there's a better (more correct/in good style) way to handle initialization than the way I have done it. Meaning, did I write these initialization functions in accordance with standards and good style? It just doesn't feel right to check for the existence of selfPtr and then return based on that.     These two methods appear to behave the same to me public IEnumerable<string> GetNothing() { return Enumerable.Empty<string>(); } public IEnumerable<string> GetLessThanNothing() { yield break; } I've profiled each in test scenarios and I don't see a meaningful difference in speed, but the yield break version is slightly faster. Are there any reasons to use one over the other? Is one easier to read than the other? Is there a behavior difference that would matter to a caller?

  • IValidator.Validate method and adding error message to a custom type

    I have several server controls that implement the IValidator interface. As such, they have their own Validate() methods that look like this. public void Validate() { this.IsValid = true; if (someConditionFails()) { ErrorMessage = "Condition failed!"; this.IsValid = false; } } I understand that these Validate() methods are executed on postback before the load completed event that is executed before the save button's event handler. What I would like to do is pass in a reference to an instance of a custom class that collects all the error messages that I can access from Save button event handler. In other words, I would like to do something like this: public void Validate(ref SummaryOfErrorMessages sum) I guess I can't do this as the signature is different from what the IValidator interface has. The other option I can think of is on Load Completed event, I would iterate through all the validators on page, get the ones with IsValid = false and create my SummaryOfErrorMessages there. Does this sound right? Is there a better way of doing it?
