• maven-ear-plugin works if jboss version is 4.2, but not 5. Why ?

  I am using maven to configure maven-ear-plugin. I am getting following exception when I say jboss version is 5 (See below code, under tag). • Partitioning with preseed help

  I have a server that has 4 hds inside all in stadalone configurations (no hardware raid). I want using preseed to create a "regular" partition on disk1 on which i ll install ubuntu and create a raid 0 array with the remainning three disks. Is this possible? Can i use partman-auto/method twice inside the preseed file once for regular and once for raid? I need to use this for unattended provisioning so i need to set my disks inside the preseed file. • NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate crashes when called on a searched tableview

  So I nearly have this thing figured out, but I am stumbling over the NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate when I update my managedObjectContext from a detail view that was entered after searching the table. I have a tableview generated from a core data set. I can enter a detail view from this table and make changes without any issue. I can also search the table and make changes MOST of the time without any issues. However, on certain objects, I get an "Exception was caught during Core Data change processing". I tracked this down to the NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate. I'm using the following code: case NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate: if (searchTermForSegue) { NSLog(@"index info:%@.....",theIndexPath); NSLog(@"crashing at the next line"); [self fetchedResultsController:self.searchFetchedResultsController configureCell:[tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:theIndexPath] atIndexPath:theIndexPath]; break; } else { [self fetchedResultsController:controller configureCell:[tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:theIndexPath] atIndexPath:theIndexPath]; } break; When the table is not being searched, it runs the else method and that works 100% of the time. When the table is being searched, it runs the if (searchTermForSegue) and that works most of the time, but not always. I logged theIndexPath and discovered the following: When it works, theIndexPath is correctly reporting the objects indexPat, when it fails, the wrong theIndexPath has been called. For example, if I do a search that narrows the tableView to 3 sections, 2 items in first, 1 in second, 1 in third, I get the following nslog: On first object: index info:<NSIndexPath 0xb0634d0> 2 indexes [0, 0]..... on second object: index info:<NSIndexPath 0xb063e70> 2 indexes [0, 1]..... on third object: index info:<NSIndexPath 0xb042880> 2 indexes [1, 0]..... but on the last object: index info:<NSIndexPath 0x9665790> 2 indexes [2, 17]..... it should be calling [2, 0] Note that I am simply updating these objects, not deleting them or adding new ones. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

• How does System.TraceListener prepend message with process name?

  I have been looking at using System.Diagnostics.Trace for doing logging is a very basic app. Generally it does all I need it to do. The downside is that if I call Trace.TraceInformation("Some info"); The output is "SomeApp.Exe Information: 0: Some info". Initally this entertained me but no longer. I would like to just output "Some info" to console. So I thought writing a cusom TraceListener, rather than using the inbuilt ConsoleTraceListener, would solve the problem. I can see a specific format that I want all the text after the second colon. Here is my attempt to see if this would work. class LogTraceListener : TraceListener { public override void Write(string message) { int firstColon = message.IndexOf(":"); int secondColon = message.IndexOf(":", firstColon + 1); Console.Write(message); } public override void WriteLine(string message) { int firstColon = message.IndexOf(":"); int secondColon = message.IndexOf(":", firstColon + 1); Console.WriteLine(message); } } If I output the value of firstColon it is always -1. If I put a break point the message is always just "Some info". Where does all the other information come from? So I had a look at the call stack at the point just before Console.WriteLine was called. The method that called my WriteLine method is: System.dll!System.Diagnostics.TraceListener.TraceEvent(System.Diagnostics.TraceEventCache eventCache, string source, System.Diagnostics.TraceEventType eventType, int id, string message) + 0x33 bytes When I use Reflector to look at this message it all seems pretty straight forward. I can't see any code that changes the value of the string after I have sent it to Console.WriteLine. The only method that could posibly change the underlying string value is a call to UnsafeNativeMethods.EventWriteString which has a parameter that is a pointer to the message. Does anyone understand what is going on here and whether I can change the output to be just my message with out the additional fluff. It seems like evil magic that I can pass a string "Some info" to Console.WriteLine (or any other method for that matter) and the string that output is different.

• A peculiar issue with nm-applet

  There is a somewhat strange error that I've noticed with my gnome sessions. It's not a problem that causes a lot of trouble, but at times it becomes annoying. Anyway, here it is: when I fire up gnome-session-fallback (which is the main one I use), the network applet doesn't run with root permission. Here is what it looks like http://i.imgur.com/8kc7Vrd.jpg . On the other hand, here is what the regular gnome session looks like http://i.imgur.com/wfkkE3E.jpg . From the regular session I can easy edit and add networks, but from fallback session I cannot add/edit anything, or turn off/on the wireless or networking. Any ideas?

• How much to charge for being available for support?

  I am working in small development firm, our main products are ASP.NET and SQL server based. We are deploying a new version of our product and client wants 4-hour response time technical support. Some of this support time will fall outside regular business hours and our boss asked us how much should we charge for being available outside regular business hours? Is it 50% of our hourly fee, 20% ? Any suggestion is appreciated, he is pushing us to speak up and I don't have any idea. I don't want to underprice my free time. Thanks.

• IIS 7.5 , Tomcat 7 - Isapi redirector - Fail Over - sticky sessions

  I have two instances of Tomcat 7.0.8 running in the same machine (Tomcat7A and Tomcat7B) and IIS 7.5 acting as front-end load-balancer with isapi-redirector 1.2.31, running on Windows 2008 R2. My guess is that this is causing ypbind to time out when trying to connect. As a knock-on effect the NIS failure is causing problems with NFS which is no longer able to map UIDs properly. This problem doesn't seem to be fixed by actually starting ypbind etc. so I've had to set all my NFS shares to noauto. I have tried manually adding NETWORKDELAY and NETWORKWAIT in /etc/sysconfig/network and also running systemctl enable NetworkManager-wait-online.service as I've seen suggested in some places, but neither of these have had any effect. It is relatively easy to fix manually by restarting ypbind & mounting NFS shares after the network has started up, but it's less than ideal to have to do this every time the server has been rebooted. Does anyone know of an easy (and preferably hack-free) way of delaying the ypbind startup till after the network interface is fully ready?

  Yahoo Mail is sending our server's transactional emails to the Spam folder, even though we have taken quite a few anti-spam steps. By contrast, Gmail allows the messages through to the inbox just fine. Here are the things which are in place: SPF is set up for the domain holsteinplaza.com. Yahoo reports spf=pass in the message headers. DKIM is set up for the domain holsteinplaza.com. Yahoo reports dkim=pass in the message headers. We have a proper reverse DNS entry for the sending mail server. Name - IP matches IP - Name. Neither Domainkeys nor SenderID are set up. From what I can tell, DKIM is the way of the future, and there is not much to be gained from adding Domainkeys or SenderID. Following are the headers. It occurs to any asp.net page in the application, rendering the entire application unusable until the user gets a new session. The cause of the problem is that the ReportViewer uses session state. When a page retrieves session from any out-of-state session, the session variable of type Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportHierarchy is deserialized from the session storage. The deserialization could cause the object to connect to the report server when the report is no longer available. The solution is simple but not pretty. We need to clean up the session variable when the report viewer page is closed. One way is to add some Javascript to the page to handle the window.onunload event. In the event handler, call a web service to clean up the session variable. The name of the session variable appears to be randomly generated. So we need to loop through the session variable to find a variable of the type Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportHierarchy. Microsoft has implemented pinging between the report viewer and the report server to keep the report alive on the server when the report viewer is up; I hope they will go one step further to take care of this problem.

  Any help on getting the sound to come through my lenovo t60 build in speakers, headphones, or mic would greatly be appreciated. The three buttons to increase, decrease sound seem to work. Bios has sound card enabled and the buttons beep when pressed. When going to Utube or playing music, no sound is heard. TimesTen is a relational database providing very fast and high throughput through its memory-centric architecture.  TimesTen is designed for low latency, high-volume data, and event and transaction management. A TimesTen database resides entirely in memory, so no disk I/O is required for transactions and query operations. TimesTen is used in applications requiring very fast and predictable response time, such as real-time financial services trading applications and large web applications. • WiFi stops working after a while in Lenovo ThinkPad W520 (Ubuntu 12.04)

• Formatting made easy - Silverlight 4

  One of the simplest tasks in business apps is displaying different types of data to be read in the format that the user expects them.  In Silverlight versions until Silverlight 4 this has meant using a Converter to format data during binding.  This involves writing code for the formatting of the data to bind, instead of simply defining the formatting to use for the data in question where you bind the data to the control.   In Silverlight 4 we find the addition of the StringFormat markup extension that allows us to do exactly this.  Of course the nice thing is the ability to use the common formatting conventions available in C# through the String.Format function.   This post will show you how to use three of the common formatting conventions - currency, a defined number of decimal places for a number and a date format.   Steps:   1. Create a new Silverlight 4 application   2. • Getting Started with Cloud Computing

  You’ve likely heard about how Office 365 and Windows Intune are great applications to get you started with Cloud Computing. Many of you emailed me asking for more info on what Cloud Computing is, including the distinction between "Public Cloud" and "Private Cloud". I want to address these questions and help you get started. Let's begin with a brief set of definitions and some places to find more info; however, an excellent place where you can always learn more about Cloud Computing is the Microsoft Virtual Academy. Public Cloud computing means that the infrastructure to run and manage the applications users are taking advantage of is run by someone else and not you. In other words, you do not buy the hardware or software to run your email or other services being used in your organization – that is done by someone else. Users simply connect to these services from their computers and you pay a monthly subscription fee for each user that is taking advantage of the service. Examples of Public Cloud services include Office 365, Windows Intune, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Hotmail, and others. Private Cloud computing generally means that the hardware and software to run services used by your organization is run on your premises, with the ability for business groups to self-provision the services they need based on rules established by the IT department. Generally, Private Cloud implementations today are found in larger organizations but they are also viable for small and medium-sized businesses since they generally allow an automation of services and reduction in IT workloads when properly implemented. Having the right management tools, like System Center 2012, to implement and operate Private Cloud is important in order to be successful. So – how do you get started? The first step is to determine what makes the most sense to your organization. The nice thing is that you do not need to pick Public or Private Cloud – you can use elements of both where it makes sense for your business – the choice is yours. • What should I do to make sure that IIS does not recycle my application?

  I have a WCF service app hosted in IIS. On startup, it goes and fetches a really expensive (in terms of time and cpu) resource to use as local cache. Unfortunately, IIS seems to recycle the process on a fairly regular basis. So I am trying to change the settings on the Application Pool to make sure that IIS does not recycle the application. So far, I've change the following: Limit Interval under CPU from 5 to 0. Idle Time-out under Process Model from 20 to 0. Regular Time Interval under Recycling from 1740 to 0. Will this be enough? And I have specific questions about the items I changed: What specifically does Limit Interval setting under CPU mean? Does it mean that if a certain CPU usage is exceeded, the application pool will be recycled? What exactly does "recycled" mean? Is the application completely torn down and started up again? What is the difference between "Worker Process shutdown" and "Application Pool recycling"? The documentation for the Idle Time-out under Process Model talks about shutting down the worker process. While the docs for Regular Time Interval under Recycling talk about application pool recycling. I don't quite grok the difference between the two. I thought the w3wp.exe is the worker process which runs the application pool. Can someone explain the difference to the application between the two? The reason for having IIS7 and IIS7.5 tags is because the app will run in both and hope the answers are the same between the versions. Image for reference:

• Migrating to CF9: trouble getting JRun working with SSL

  I have a client on MX7 who wants to migrate to CF9. I have a dev environment for them on my WinXP machine where I've configured MX7 to run with JRun's built-in web server. I've had that working for a long time with both regular and SSL connections. I installed CF9 yesterday side-by-side with the existing MX7 install to start testing. The install was smooth and detected MX7, adjusted CF9's port numbers for no conflict, etc. Testing started well: MX7 over regular and SSL still worked and CF9 worked over regular HTTP. But I can't get CF9 to work with SSL. I installed a new certificate with keytool, FireFox (v3.6) complained about it being unsigned, I added it to the exception list, and now I get this: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to localhost:9101. Peer reports it experienced an internal error. (Error code: ssl_error_internal_error_alert) I've been Googling that in all variations but can't find much help to get past this. I don't see any info in any log files either. • Google Desktop Search problems - unable to disable indexing and no index status page

  I've been running Google Desktop (I've used both the regular and Enterprise versions) without issues on my Windows 7 64-bit PC for a long time with no issues. I just paved my PC and reinstalled Google Desktop (regular edition). Initially, I want to use it only for the CTRL-CTRL launcher capability - I don't want it to do any indexing. So I unchecked all the items in the configuration dialog as well as excluded c:. Despite this, it is indexing all the content on my hard drive as well as Outlook email, etc. In my previous installations I had the same options set and they worked properly. The other problem I have is that when you right-click on the Google Desktop system tray icon, there used to be an option for "Index Status" which showed you the percentage complete the index creation process was, as well as an option to clear and rebuild the index. Those are no longer there. I uninstalled the regular edition and installed the Enterprise Edition, but same problems. Any ideas?

• Problem with single quotes in man pages

  When I ssh into my Debian Lenny server and open a man page, single quotes appear to be messed up. Example from the man page of apt-get: If no package matches the given expression and the expression contains one of ´.´, ´?´ or ´*´ then it is assumed to be a POSIX regular expression, and it is applied to all package names in the database. Any matches are then installed (or removed). Note that matching is done by substring so ´lo.*´ matches ´how-lo´ and ´lowest´. If this is undesired, anchor the regular expression with a ´^´ or ´$´ character, or create a more specific regular expression. I'm on Mac OS X and using xterm. If I use Terminal, the problem doesn't happen. My locale is configured correctly as far as I can see: $ locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL= I'm not sure what's wrong with my environment, and I have no idea what to check next.
