I have an file input tag in my web app. I'd like to check that the file isn't too big before sending it to the server. Of course, I still have validation server side. Is there any way to do this with JavaScript? It must work in IE7+ and FF3+. Thank you. EDIT: somefileinputobject.files[0].filesize works in FF, but not IE.

  • How do I create a Django ModelForm, so that it's fields are sometimes required, sometimes not?

    - by Graf
Ok, here is the question. Imagine I have a ModelForm which have only two fields. like this one: class ColorForm(forms.Form): color_by_name = forms.CharField() color = forms.IntegerField(widget = forms.Select(choices=COLOR_CHOICES)) So a user can either input a color name, a choose it from a list. Color is required, but that doesn't mean, that user should enter it manually. There do I put validation, so that my code checks if user selected color in dropdownlist and if not then he should write it manually?

  • ASP MVC2 - Dynamic Field Layout

    - by Rob
I'm new to MVC and ADO.net Entity Framework. Instead of having to create an edit/display for each entity, I'd like to have the controller base class generate the view and validation code based off metadata stored in a table - something along those lines. I would imagine something like this has already been done, or there are good reasons for not doing it. Any insight or suggestions are appreciated.

  • xslt or php for rendering output

    - by Arsenal
I'm creating something where users can upload an xml and data get's imported to the database. Now I'm building some kind of a preview page where users will get to see how their input will look once it's stored. What would be the fastest (in execution time), using XSL to transform the xml to a html page, or using php to render the output? My guess is XSL is far more suitable (+ faster) for this (and by using a DTD there's no need for code written validation, right?)

  • Qt C++ XML, validating against a DTD?

    - by Airjoe
Is there a way to validate an XML file against a DTD with Qt's XML handling? I've tried googling around but can't seem to get a straight answer. If Qt doesn't include support for validating an XML file, what might be the process of implementing validation myself? Any good reference to start with in regards to validating XML against a spec? Thanks for the help!

Is for their own testing, or for web developers, or to demonstrate browser capabilities to the world and to the W3C organizations and to CSS development team of W3C? is it like a beta version of demonstration? if i use any browser specific for now can they remove that property's support from future versions.will i have to edit my css in future For example: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS_Reference/Mozilla_Extensions

I am using a few page validation tools one problem i have is they tell me textarea must have rows and cols attribute. If i am setting this in CSS or using display:none (and using it to hold raw text data) can i do something to skip? it seems like the only answer is rows="0" cols="0" each time i use it. But i have a feeling that is not a good solution.

  • php Dollar amount Regular Expression

    - by Thildemar
I am have completed javascript validation of a form using Regular Expressions and am now working on redundant verification server-side using PHP. I have copied this regular expression from my jscript code that finds dollar values, and reformed it to a PHP friendly format: /\$?((\d{1,3}(,\d{3})*)|(\d+))(\.\d{2})?$/ Specifically: if (preg_match("/\$?((\d{1,3}(,\d{3})*)|(\d+))(\.\d{2})?$/", $_POST["cost"])){} While the expression works great in javascript I get : Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 when I run it in PHP. Anyone have a clue why this error is coming up?

  • Javascript self contained sandbox events and client side stack

    - by amnon
I'm in the process of moving a JSF heavy web application to a REST and mainly JS module application . I've watched "scalable javascript application architecture" by Nicholas Zakas on yui theater (excellent video) and implemented much of the talk with good success but i have some questions : I found the lecture a little confusing in regards to the relationship between modules and sandboxes , on one had to my understanding modules should not be effected by something happening outside of their sandbox and this is why they publish events via the sandbox (and not via the core as they do access the core for hiding base libary) but each module in the application gets a new sandbox ? , shouldn't the sandbox limit events to the modoules using it ? or should events be published cross page ? e.g. : if i have two editable tables but i want to contain each one in a different sandbox and it's events effect only the modules inside that sandbox something like messabe box per table which is a different module/widget how can i do that with sandbox per module , ofcourse i can prefix the events with the moduleid but that creates coupling that i want to avoid ... and i don't want to package modules toghter as one module per combination as i already have 6-7 modules ? while i can hide the base library for small things like id selector etc.. i would still like to use the base library for module dependencies and resource loading and use something like yui loader or dojo.require so in fact i'm hiding the base library but the modules themself are defined and loaded by the base library ... seems a little strange to me libraries don't return simple js objects but usualy wrap them e.g. : u can do something like $$('.classname').each(.. which cleans the code alot , it makes no sense to wrap the base and then in the module create a dependency for the base library by executing .each but not using those features makes a lot of code written which can be left out ... and implemnting that functionality is very bug prone does anyonen have any experience with building a front side stack of this order ? how easy is it to change a base library and/or have modules from different libraries , using yui datatable but doing form validation with dojo ... ? some what of a combination of 2+4 if u choose to do something like i said and load dojo form validation widgets for inputs via yui loader would that mean dojocore is a module and the form module is dependant on it ? Thanks .

  • form_dropdown in codeigniter

    - by Patrick
    I'm getting a strange behaviour from form_dropdown - basically, when I reload the page after validation, the values are screwed up. this bit generates 3 drop downs with days, months and years: $days = array(0 => 'Day...'); for ($i = 1; $i <= 31; $i++) { $days[] = $i; } $months = array(0 => 'Month...', ); for ($i = 1; $i <= 12; $i++) { $months[] = $i; } $years = array(0 => 'Year...'); for ($i = 2010; $i <= 2012; $i++) { $years[$i] = $i; echo "<pre>"; print_r($years); echo "</pre>";//remove this } $selected_day = (isset($selected_day)) ? $selected_day : 0; $selected_month = (isset($selected_month)) ? $selected_month : 0; $selected_year = (isset($selected_year)) ? $selected_year : 0; echo "<p>"; echo form_label('Select date:', 'day', array('class' => 'left')); echo form_dropdown('day', $days, $selected_day, 'class="combosmall"'); echo form_dropdown('month', $months, $selected_month, 'class="combosmall"'); echo form_dropdown('year', $years, $selected_year, 'class="combosmall"'); echo "</p>"; ...and generates this: <p><label for="day" class="left">Select date:</label><select name="day" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Day...</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="11">11</option> <option value="12">12</option> <option value="13">13</option> <option value="14">14</option> <option value="15">15</option> <option value="16">16</option> <option value="17">17</option> <option value="18">18</option> <option value="19">19</option> <option value="20">20</option> <option value="21">21</option> <option value="22">22</option> <option value="23">23</option> <option value="24">24</option> <option value="25">25</option> <option value="26">26</option> <option value="27">27</option> <option value="28">28</option> <option value="29">29</option> <option value="30">30</option> <option value="31">31</option> </select><select name="month" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Month...</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="11">11</option> <option value="12">12</option> </select><select name="year" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Year...</option> <option value="2010">2010</option> <option value="2011">2011</option> <option value="2012">2012</option> </select></p> however, when the form is reloaded after validation, the same code above generates this: <!-- days and months... --> <select name="year" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Year...</option> <option value="1">2010</option> <option value="2">2011</option> <option value="3">2012</option> </select> So basically the value start from 1 instead of 2010. The same happens to days and months but obviously it doesn't make any difference in this particular case as the values would start from 1 anyway. How can I fix this - and why does it happen? edit: validation rules are: $this->load->library('form_validation'); //...rules for other fields.. $this->form_validation->set_rules('day', 'day', 'required|xss_clean'); $this->form_validation->set_rules('month', 'month', 'required|xss_clean'); $this->form_validation->set_rules('year', 'year', 'required|xss_clean'); $this->form_validation->set_error_delimiters('<p class="error">', '</p>'); //define other errors if($this->input->post('day') == 0 || $this->input->post('month') == 0 || $this->input->post('year') == 0) { $data['error'] = "Please check the date of your event."; }
