Html Select List: why would onchange be called twice?

I have a page with a select list (ASP.NET MVC Page) The select list and onchange event specified like this: <%=Html.DropDownList("CompanyID", Model.CompanySelectList, "(select company)", new { @class = "data-entry-field", @onchange = "companySelectListChanged()" })%> The companySelectListChanged function is getting called twice? I am using the nifty code in this question to get the caller. both times the caller is the onchange event, however if i look at the callers caller using: arguments.callee.caller.caller the first call returns some system code as the caller (i presume) and the second call returns undefined. I am checking for undefined to only react once to onchange, but this doesnt seem ideal, whcy would onchange be called twice? UPDATE: ok, found the culprit! ...apart from me :-) but the issue of calling the companySelectListChanged function twice still stands. The onchange event is set directly on the select as mentioned. This calls the companySelectListChanged function. ..notice the 'data-entry-field' class, now in a separate linked javascript file a change event on all fields with this class is bound to a function that changes the colour of the save button. This means there is two events on the onchange, but the companySelectListChanged is called twice? The additional binding is set as follows: $('.data-entry-field').bind('keypress keyup change', function (e) { highLightSaveButtons(); }); Assuming its possible to have 2 change events on the select list, its would assume that setting keypress & keyup events may be breaking something? Any ideas?

Firefox: Can I use a relative path in the BASE tag?

I have a little web project where I have many pages and an index/ToC file. The toc file is at the root of my project in toc.html. The pages are spread over a couple of subdirectories and include the toc with an iframe. The project doesn't need a web server, so I can create the HTML in a directory and browse it in my browser. The problem is that I'm running into XSS issues when JavaScript from the toc.html wants to call a function in a page (violation of the same origin policy). So I added base tags in the header with a relative URL to the directory in which toc.html. This works for Konqueror but in Firefox, I have to use absolute paths or the toc won't even display :( Here is an example: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' ?> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <base href="../" target="_top" /> <title>Project 1</title> </head> <body> <iframe class="toc" frameborder="0" src="toc.html"> </iframe> </body> </html> This is file is in a subdirectory page. Firefox won't even load it, saying that it can't find page/toc.html. Is there a workaround? I would really like to avoid absolute paths in my export to keep it the same everywhere (locally and when I upload it on the web server later).

How to build Graceful Degradation AJAX web page?

I want to build web page with "Graceful Degradation". That is, the web page functions even javascript is disabled. Now I have to make design decision on the format of AJAX response. If javascript is disabled, each HTTP request to server will generate HTML as response. The browser refreshes with the returned HTML. That's fine. If javascript is enabled, each AJAX HTTP request to server will generate ... well, JSON or HTML. If it is HTML, it is easy to implement. Just have javascript to replace part of page with the returned HTML. And, in server side, not much code change is needed. If it is JSON, then I have to implement JSON-to-html logic in javascript again which is almost duplicate of server side logic. Duplication is evil. I really don't like it. The benefit is that the bandwidth usage is better than HTML, which brings better performance. So, what's the best solution to Graceful Degradation? AJAX request better to return JSON or HTML?

passing in javascript values into iframe tag

What's the best way to pass in the value held in a javascript variable into an iframe call on the same html page? I'm trying to improve my site's page response times by moving ad serving javascript code (the typical document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="..") into a separate iframe. (Based on this posting) The request to the ad server typically require a seed variable declared once per site and incremented each time page is loaded by the client. What I want to do is pass in the seed variable into the document invoked by my iframe section. The seed variable is initialized in the 'head' tag of my main html document: <head> <script type="text/javascript">  </script> </head> Later in the html document, I make the request through an iframe which returns the html necessary to invoke the ad server. <body>  <iframe src="somepage.html" width="100%" height="100%"> <p>No support for iframe</p> </iframe> </body> The html returned in the 'somepage.html' has a script used to call the ad server and needs to use the earlier declared seed variable as a parameter: <script type="text/javascript"> document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ad.server.net/...seed='+ custom_seed +'?"></script>'); custom_seed++; </script> What's a good way to achieve this?

I'm developing an application for the iPhone that has inApp-mail sending capabilities. So far so good, but now I want to avoid html-injections as some parts of the mail are user-generated texts. search form in php via ajax

Load an html table from a mysql database when an onChange event is triggered from a select tag

So, here's the deal. I have an html table that I want to populate. Specificaly the first row is the one that is filled with elements from a mysql database. To be exact, the table is a questionnaire about mobile phones. The first row is the header where the cellphone names are loaded from the database. There is also a select tag that has company names as options in it. I need to trigger an onChange event on the select tag to reload the page and refill the first row with the new names of mobiles from the company that is currently selected in the dropdown list. How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes

I'm restyling a certain page where I don't have access to all the source-HTML. So I'm left over with some hard to target elements within a page I need removed. For example the page is swamped with <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div>. To get rid of them I tried this in CSS: div[style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"] { display:none !important; } I'd like to fix this using CSS, because the the HTML that needs to be removed is updated using ajax. How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes? Browser application & local file system access

I want to enhance my browser-based web application with functionality that enables management of local files and folders. E.g. folder tree structures should be synchronized between local workstation and server via HTTP(S). I am aware of security-related limitations in browser-based applications. However, there are some techniques that "work around" these issues: Signed Java applets (full trust) .NET Windows Forms browser controls (no joke, that works. Just the configuration is horrible) ActiveX My question is: What do you use/suggest, both technology and implementation practice? Button inside of anchor link works in Firefox but not in Internet Explorer?

jQuery load() problem with html that contain jQuery plugin

(making use of code below) [ePhone.html] <script type="text/javascript" src="js/prototype.lite.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/moo.fx.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/litebox-1.0.js"></script> The Litebox plugin also required to add onload="initLightbox()" within the BODY tag of ePhone.html. From the above code, I can load ePhone.html's content(#content div) to my (apDiv2) of my index.html. However, the lightbox effect is no longer work. I've also try loading the whole html instead of only #content: $('#apDiv2').load('ePhone.html'); but it still doesn't work. Please help, thx

jquery mobile mPDF not rendering on form submission

Im trying to have the user submit form data to a mPDF page the will render a pdf with the data included. The problem Im having is that jquery mobile initializes the mPDF page not allowing the mPDF to render properly. Im trying to figure out how to stop jquery mobile from initializing the mPDF page. Just a note, when I remove query mobile the functionality works. JS. How to replace html element with another element/text, represented in string?

I have a problem with replacing html elements. For example, there is a table <table><tr><td id="idTABLE">0</td><td>END</td></tr></table> (it can be div, span, anything) And string in JS script var str='<td>1</td><td>2</td>'; (it can be anything, '123 text', '<span123 element</span 456' or ' <tr<td123</td ' or anything) How can I replace element 'idTABLE' with str? Struts2 jQuery Plugin Autocompleter renders HTML with style attributes <== changing this?

Putting in the following attribute has no effect: cssStyle="width:115px!important;" What can I do?

Is there a maximum number of input controls that can be used on an HTML form?

I have an ambitious requirement for an asp.net 2.0 web page that contains a table (gridview), and each row in the grid contains 6 select (dropdown) controls for data entry. The number of rows that will be displayed is dependent upon the user's search parameters, which are specified in another area of the page. Unfortunately, with the default (and even basic) search parameters specified, the grid could contain several hundred rows. I've noticed that the browser, in this case IE8, starts behaving rather erratically once I reach a large number of rows -- no documented evidence for the number of rows where this begins to be a problem. For example, trying to view the source of the page results in a message from IE stating that there was a problem with the page that forced the browser to reload it, and I never get the source. Obviously the page loads and renders rather slowly also. I know that my solution is probably going to involve paging the gridview such that it only displays 20 or so rows per page, and I'll have to write code to handle the saving of changes in the dropdown values when the user changes pages. I can probably turn off viewstate on the gridview also. However, the question I really want to pose is this -- has anyone seen a documented rule indicating the maximum number of input controls that an HTML browser form is supposed to be able to contain? I could not find anything on the Internet after doing a search, and I suspect the answer may be whatever the browser can handle based on the machine configuration it is running on. Any rules of thumb you use? Thanks for any suggestions. Rich

lets say I have a html page. <html> <body> ... All my HTML page elements behind of my second div(which id is 'window_to_my_html_page') must be active, all mouse events must work on them, this div must be like a window to my HTML page I want to make all elements from my HTML page active(to work as normal) inside this area (left: 50px; top: 50px; width: 200px; height: 200px).... and other content, outside of this area make inactive The question: how can I do it?

differences in style rendering: windows server 2003 to windows server 2008

I copied code from our live site (running windows server 2003) to a new QA virtual machine (running windows 2008). When I view the page source info its exactly the same, but the appearance of the sites is very difference. Is this caused by the difference in OS, or am I looking in the wrong place?

index.html redirecting to cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi

This problem has been persisting over the last couple of days. I thought I fixed it Friday only to get in on Monday morning and see that cPanel is still giving me issues. On Friday, all incoming traffic to my index.html page were being redirected to cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi. Upon further investigation, I found that my entire index.html code had been overwritten and contained only a single meta tag, which was causing the aforementioned redirect. I re-uploaded the original index page and overwrote the one that was causing the redirects and it seemed to have fixed the problem. Fast forward to Monday. The problem began happening again and I took the same steps as before to fix it, but now I'm wondering how to permanently stop this from happening. From what I've found, it's related to cPanel. I personally did not make any changes to the server, but there are a few people with access who might have. I'm on a VPS with my own dedicated IP address. I've been hosting fine for a few months without this problem. The server is runs a traditional LAMP stack.
