  • Using a singleton database class in functions and multiple scripts(PHP) - best use methods

    I have a singleton db connection which I get with: $dbConnect = myDatabase::getInstance(); which is easy enough. My question is what is the least rhetorical and legitimate way of using this connection in functions and classes? It seems silly to have to declare the variable global, pass it into every single function, and/or recreate this variable within every function. Is there another answer for this? Obviously I'm a noob and I can work my way around this problem 10 different ways, none of which is really attractive to me. It would be a lot easier if I could have that $dbConnect variable accessible in any function without needing to declare it global or pass it in. I do know I can add the variable to the $_SERVER array...is there something wrong with doing this? It seems somewhat inappropriate to me. Another quick question: Is it bad practice to do this: $result = myDatabase::getInstance()-query($query); from directly within a function?

    I was actually going through this link. which explains how we can share global variable across multiple js. but the point is what need to be done if I am getting some variable into one js and need to pass to another one mentioned in same document after the 1st one. approach which followed was: Script 1 <script type="text/javascript" src="js/client.js"></script> body added some hidden input with id myHiddenId, where values are set using client.js Script 2 <script type="text/javascript" src="js/anotherJS.js"></script> inside script 2 I am simply using $("#myHiddenId").val(); and using for my purpose. I want to know whether I am following correct approach, because that hidden field may have some data which client should not get aware of. is there any other way through which I can pass the variable values across the js files ? Since I am at beginner level hence digging up some resources/books but still no luck.

  • I am confused about how to use @SessionAttributes

    I am trying to understand architecture of Spring MVC. However, I am completely confused by behavior of @SessionAttributes. Please look at SampleController below , it is handling post method by SuperForm class. In fact, just field of SuperForm class is only binding as I expected. However, After I put @SessionAttributes in Controller, handling method is binding as SubAForm.   • vb.net session variable passing "space" from one page to another

    i have 2 aspx webpages with vb.net code. On the first page, I have a text box, on first page that says "Enter Hobby", but its not a required textbox. So if the user clicks submit, it'll load up the second page. Now in the second page i have textbox "hobby" which has maxlength = 10. and in the vb.net code i have hobby.text = session("hobby"). if the user doesnt fill up hobby in first page, the session comes with 10 "spaces" since maxlength is 10. I tried hobby.text = TRIM(session("hobby"), but nothing happens. Any idea how i can lose the spaces if nothing is inputted?

It looks like the issue is due to the following line not working properly: builtin eval export $previousFilenameVar=$filename I have a some theories to explain why: in the original code, functions are declared and exported as readonly which makes them unable to modify global variable. I removed readonly declarations in the above sample, but probleme persists. Function calls are performed in $() which should make them run into seperated shell instances so variable modified are not exported to the main shell But I cannot manage to find a workaround to this issue...     Outside of a for I declare a variable using var list;. I use this variable inside of my for loop like so: // add the html to the list if (list == undefined) list = item; else list.append(item.contents()); item is a cloned jquery object build from a $('list_template').clone(); call (list_template is a div with <li> elements inside). What I am doing is creating a list, which I will then appendTo() where I need it. Right now this code works fine, but it doesn't seem right to me. Unfortunatly, I cannot seem to figure out how to correctly declare the list variable to be an empty Jquery object. I have tried both: var list = $([]); var list = $(''); Both of those cause the append to not work correctly (or as expected) with list.html() being null. Is there a way to initialize my variable to an empty jquery object, so all I have to do is list.append(item.contents()); without the if/else statements?

  • How to get global access to enum types in C#?

    This is probably a stupid question, but I can't seem to do it. I want to set up some enums in one class like this: public enum Direction { north, east, south, west }; Then have that enum type accessible to all classes so that some other class could for instance have: Direction dir = north; and be able to pass the enum type between classes: public void changeDirection(Direction direction) { dir = direction; } I thought that setting the enum to public would make this automatically possible, but it doesn't seem to be visible outside of the class I declared the enum in.

  • how can i request a variable in my home.ctp of my cakePHP application?

    I created a page using the MVC structure called 'sections' ( view is located in the app/views/sections folder, model in the model folder and the controller in the controller folder) when i request the variable $test, it works fine without any errors.. When i want to request this variable in my home.ctp, it provides me with an error, saying that the variable is undefined.. Is there any way in cakePHP to request this variable on any page you want it to? Thnx in advance!

    im having a weird problem with one variable: its not being recognized but its still printing. i would post my code, but it is massive. the basic idea is: # pseudocode def function(stuff): <do stuff> # These are the only 2 conditions if tag == 3: pka = <a string> if tag == 4: pka = <a string> print pka # (1) print pka # (2) <do stuff not modifying pka> print pka # (3) if pka == 'RSA': <do stuff> elif pka == 'DSA': <do stuff> my code will error at (2). however, it will print out (1), (2), and (3), all of which are the same. is there any general explanation of why this is happening? if my code is really needed, i will post it, but otherwise, i would rather not due to its size update: now the code will error at the if statement after (3), saying UnboundLocalError: local variable 'pka' referenced before assignment even though (1),(2),(3) just printed

  • Create Session Variable from different datasources?

    Currently I am developing a dynamic website using Dreamweaver cs5 with ColdFusion 9 and using Access to create my databases along with QuickBooks and QODBC to create database. I have established a login session variable stemming from the login page. This session variable is being drawn from one Datasource "Access" Table "Logininfo" Field "FullName" but I wanted to create another session variable either at this point or further into the member's page to use in a query sequence. This session variable would stem from another Datasoucre "QBs" Table "Invoice" Field "CustomerRefFullName" which is generated through Quickbooks and QODBC. I am not sure if this is possible but if it is how do I do it. I want to do this so I can query the Invoice database to upload the customer's Invoices unique to them onto their page. So it would have to be related to their login credentials. If there is another better route to take I would greatly appreciate the advice. Below is the login code if there is additional information needed let me know. This is my current thinking/plan to do what I wish to intend hence the need to create the session variable: I have another Datasource "QBs" with a Table "Invoice" when I create another webpage for the customer to see their invoice I need to create a recordset that accesses that Table. In order to do so I think the best way would some home convert the session.FullName (which came from Access Datasource, Logininfor Table) into a session.CustomerRefFullName (which would have to come from (Datasource: QBs Table: Invoice Field: CustomerRefFullName) that way I could set the query WHERE CustomerRefFullName and have each logged in user see their specific Invoices.     New to Rails and trying to get my head around when/why to use :symbols, @ivars , "strings" within the framework. I think I understand the differences between them conceptually only one :symbol instance per project one @ivar per instance multiple "strings" - as they are created whenever referenced (?) Feel free to correct me! The main confusion comes from understanding the rules & conventions of what Rails expects - where and WHY? I'm sure there's an "Ah ha!" moment coming but I haven't had it yet...as it seems pretty arbitrary to me (coming from C/Obj-C). -thx

  • Using different numeric variable types

    Im still pretty new so bear with me on this one, my question(s) are not meant to be argumentative or petty but during some reading something struck me as odd. Im under the assumption that when computers were slow and memory was expensive using the correct variable type was much more of a necessity than it is today. Now that memory is a bit easier to come by people seem to have relaxed a bit. For example, you see this sample code everywhere: for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) int? (-2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,648) for length? Isnt byte (0-255) a better choice? So Im curious of your opinion and what you believe to be best practice, I hate to think this would be used only because the acronym "int" is more intuitive for a beginner...or has memory just become so cheap that we really dont need to concern ourselves with such petty things and therefore we should just use long so we can be sure any other numbers/types(within reason) used can be cast automagically? ...or am Im just being silly by concerning myself with such things?

    Can someone please advise me on how my Ajax div can get an address bar variable. The usual way just doesn't work. Error: undefined method `name' for nil:NilClass. Here's my reasoning. The parameter :id is coming from my url path (i.e. we're looking for customer #3 in the above path). @customer should find that array easily, then @customer.name should produce the name, but apparently @customer is blank. Why? I assume the problem is that I'm not producing an array in my controller?

    Basically I have this: import random variable1 = random.randint(13, 19) And basically what that does is assign variable1 a random number between 13 and 19. Great. But, what I want it to do is assign a different random number between 13 and 19 to that variable every time it is called. Is there anyway I can do this? If I'm not being clear enough here's an example: import random variable1 = random.randint(13, 19) print(variable1) print(variable1) print(variable1) And the output I want would look something like this: ./script.py 15 19 13 So yeah, anyway I could do this in python? (More specifically python3. but the answer would probably be similar to a python2 answer)
