    Hi All, long time listener, first time caller. I use SPs and this isn't an SP vs code-behind "Build your SQL command" question. I'm looking for a high-throughput method for a backend app that handles many small transactions. I use SQLDataReader for most of the returns since forward only works in most cases for me. I've seen it done many ways, and used most of them myself. Methods that define and accept the stored procedure parameters as parameters themselves and build using cmd.Parameters.Add (with or without specifying the DB value type and/or length) Assembling your SP params and their values into an array or hashtable, then passing to a more abstract method that parses the collection and then runs cmd.Parameters.Add Classes that represent tables, initializing the class upon need, setting the public properties that represent the table fields, and calling methods like Save, Load, etc I'm sure there are others I've seen but can't think of at the moment as well. I'm open to all suggestions.

  • Can I add custom methods/attributes to built-in Python types?

    For example—say I want to add a helloWorld() method to Python's dict type. Can I do this? JavaScript has a prototype object that behaves this way. Maybe it's bad design and I should subclass the dict object, but then it only works on the subclasses and I want it to work on any and all future dictionaries.   • WPF passing the Int argument to a data object provider method

    Hi, I'm trying to produce a master/detail datagrid view. I'm using object data providers. Now I have seen many examples when the argument of a method for returning the records for the detail view is a string, like in this example: <!-- the orders datasource --> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="OrdersDataProvider" ObjectType="{x:Type local:OrdersDataProvider}"/> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="Orders" MethodName="GetOrdersByCustomer" ObjectInstance="{StaticResource OrdersDataProvider}" > <ObjectDataProvider.MethodParameters> <x:Static Member="system:String.Empty"/> </ObjectDataProvider.MethodParameters> </ObjectDataProvider> But in my case, the argument that I want to pass is the int ID not the string. Can I still somehow use the object data provider to return all the records from the database for the detail view if the argument passed to a method has to be an int?   • In Django, why is user.is_authenticated a method and not a member variable like is_staff

    Hello all, I've lost some time with a bug in my app due to user authentication. I think that it's a bit confusing but maybe someone can explain the reason and it will appear to me very logical. The user.is_staff is a member variable while user.is_authenticated is a method. However is_authenticated only returns True or False depending if the class is User or AnonymousUser (see http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/auth/) Is there a reason for that? Why user.is_authenticated is a method? Thanks in advance

    I have a apache server which uses Reverse Proxy to connect/direct to a tomcat server. Using virtualHost, RequestHeader set X-Forwarded-Proto "http" ServerName image.abc.local DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" ProxyRequests Off ProxyTimeout 600 ProxyPass /abc http://image.abc.local:9001/abc ProxyPass /xyz http://image.abc.local:9001/xyz ProxyPassReverse /abc http://image.abc.local:9001/abc ProxyPassReverse /xyz http://image.abc.local:9001/xyz what i want to achieve here is that, when there is a REQUEST_METHOD OPTIONS i want simply return HTTP status OK (200). I dont want the request to be received by the tomcat server and process it. For performance based concerns i want this request to be handled at apache level. with all the research i was still unable to get this to run; RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} OPTIONS RewriteRule .* - [R=200m] can somebody assist me with what rewrite rule should be there? or is there an alternative to RewriteEngine?   • Method for imaging a HDD? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Imaging new hard drive in Windows 7 laptop? I have to image my 320gb Laptop HDD before I send it in for repairs. The HDD is likely going to get replaced, and I would ideally like to be able to restore everything as I have it now without having to reinstall my OSes, programs and place all my files back again. I can make space on an external HDD I have, so am just looking for how I should go about this. Should I just use dd with a linux rescue cd? Or is there perhaps a more suitable program with its own rescue disk?

I know that we also have XCode debugger but sometimes, I also want to do debugging by logging out.

    I attempted to install the gmaps4rails gem. I added gem 'gmaps4rails' to my Gemfile, and ran 'bundle install. It said that my bundle installed successfully. I can find "Using gmaps4rails (0.8.8)" with 'gem list'. I added the specified columns to my users table with rake db:migrate and added acts_as_gmappable and the gmaps4rails_address method to my User model. Visiting pages that involve the user model gives me "undefined local variable or method 'acts_as_gmappable'"error. Is there something that I am missing? For greater context, the code I am using is from the Rails 3 Tutorial. OS X 10.6.6 ruby 1.8.7 rails 3.0.7 passenger 3.0.7

    I want to make a measure tape component for my app. It should look something like this with values from 0cm to 1000cm: Initially I created long bitmap image with repeated tape background. I drew that image to canvas in onDraw() method of my TapeView (extended ImageView). At the beginning everything worked beautifully but I realised that the app uses a Lot of memory and sometimes crashed with OutOfMemory exception. It was obvious because a size of the bitmap image was ~4mb! In order to increase the performance, instead of creating the bitmap I use Drawable (with the yellow tape strip) and set the tile mode to REPEAT: setTileModeX(TileMode.REPEAT); The view now is very light but I cannot figure out how to add numbers. There are too many of them to redraw them each time the onDraw method is called. Is there any way that I can draw these numbers on canvas and then save that canvas so it can be reused in onDraw() method?

    i am trying to get some data from the user and send it to another function in gcc. the code is something like this. printf("Enter your Name: "); if(!(fgets(Name, sizeof Name, stdin) != NULL)) { fprintf(stderr, "Error reading Name.\n"); exit(1); } However, i find that it has an \n character in the end. so if i enter John it ends up sending John\n. so how do i remove that \n and send a proper string.

    I'm trying to make an audio-sensitive animation, and for that purpose, I'm looking for a way to look up the current audio level. I'm looking for the peak within a set amount of time. (Think the red bar that stays on for a second or so, on an audio meter.) I've searched around for for something like this, and the only thing I could find was how to read a movie's audio levels, and how Quartz Compositions have access to this thru their iTunes Visualizer protocol. I'm looking for a way to read this from the microphone, although I'm also interested if you know how to read this from an audio file. Thanks!

    Is there a way to prevent the user from selecting a file that is not a specified file type when they browser for the file on their computer? For example, when a user browseses to upload an image file I would for them to only see images (jpg, png, ect.) that are less than 20mb. Is this something that can be accomplished with asp.net mvc and jquery or do I need to use flash or a java applet?

    Hi, I am probably totally missing the point here but.... How can I pass a 'var' into another method? (I am using linq to load XML into an Enumerable list of objects). I have differernt object types (with different fields), but the final step of my process is the same regardless of which object is being used. XNamespace xmlns = ScehmaName; var result = from e in XElement.Load(XMLDocumentLocation).Elements(xmlns + ElementName) select new Object1 { Field1 = (string)e.Element(xmlns + "field1"), Field2 = (string)e.Element(xmlns + "field2") }; var result2 = Enumerable.Distinct(result); This code will vary for the different type of XML files that will be processed. But I then want to iterate though the code to check for various issues: foreach (var w in result2) { if (w.CheckIT()) { //do something } } What I would love is the final step to be in a method in the base class, and I can pass the 'var' varible into it from each child class.

  • ArrayBlockingQueue - How to "interrupt" a thread that is wating on .take() method

    I use an ArrayBlockingQueue in my code. Clients will wait untill an element becomes available: myBlockingQueue.take(); How can I "shutdown" my service in case no elements are present in the queue and the take() ist wating indefenitely for an element to become available? This method throws an InterruptedException. My question is, how can I "evoke" an Interrupted Exception so that take() will quit? (I also tought about notify(), but it seems I doesnt help here..) I know I could insert an special "EOF/QUIT" marker Element but is this really the only solution? UPDATE (regarding the comment, that points to another question with two solutions: one mentioned above using a "Poisoning Pill Object" and the second one is Thread.interrupt(): The myBlockingQueue.take() is used NOT in a Thread (extending Thread) but rather implements Runnable. It seems a Runnable does not provide the .interrupt() method? How could I interrupt the Runnable? Million Thanks Bernhard

  • Are there any nasty side affects if i lock the HttpContext.Current.Cache.Insert method

    Apart from blocking other threads reading from the cache what other problems should I be thinking about when locking the cache insert method for a public facing website. The actual data retrieval and insert into the cache should take no more than 1 second, which we can live with. More importantly i don't want multiple thread potentially all hitting the Insert method at the same time.
