• How do I use connect to DB2 with DBI and mod_perl?

  I'm having issues with getting DBI's IBM DB2 driver to work with mod_perl. I get this error in apache's error log: DBD::DB2::dr connect warning: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Apache/DBI.pm line 190. DBI connect('SAMPLE','username',...) failed: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /data/www/perl/test.pl line 15 First of all, why is it using ODBC? The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google. Update: As james2vegas pointed out, the problem has something to do with PHP: I disable PHP all together I get the a different error: Total Environment allocation failure! Did you set up your DB2 client environment? I believe this error is to do with environment variables not being set up correctly, namely DB2INSTANCE. However, I'm not able to turn off PHP to resolve this problem (I need it for some legacy applications). So I now have 2 questions: How can I fix the original issue without disabling PHP all together? How can I fix the environment issue? I've set DB2INSTANCE, DB2_PATH and SQLLIB variables correctly using SetEnv and PerlSetEnv in httpd.conf, but with no luck. Note: I've edited the code to determine if the problem was to do with Global Variable Persistence.

• How to send web browser a loading page, then some time later a results page

  I've wasted at least a half day of my company's time searching the Internet for an answer and I'm getting wrapped around the axle here. I can't figure out the difference between all the different technology choices (long polling, ajax streaming, comet, XMPP, etc.) and I can't get a simple hello world example working on my PC. I am running Apache 2.2 and ActivePerl 5.10.0. JavaScript is completely acceptable for this solution. All I want to do is write a simple Perl CGI script that when accessed, it immediately returns some HTML that tells the user to wait or maybe sends an animated GIF. Then without any user intervention (no mouse clicks or anything) I want the CGI script to at some time later replace the wait message or the animated GIF with the actual results from their query. I know this is simple stuff and websites do it all the time using JavaScript, but I can't find a single working example that I can cut and paste onto my machine that will work in Perl. Here is my simple Hello World example that I've compiled from various Internet sources, but it doesn't seem to work. When I refresh this Perl CGI script in my web browser it prints nothing for 5 seconds, then it prints the PLEASE BE PATIENT web page, but not the results web page. So the Ajax XMLHttpRequest stuff obviously isn't working right. • Issue with multipart/form-data

  I am not able to get values from both files and text input in a servlet when my form includes multipart/form-data. I am using the apache.commons.fileuploads for help with the uploads. Any suggestions. Also in the code below there are some things that I feel should be more efficient. • One letter game problem?

  Recently at a job interview I was given the following problem: Write a script capable of running on the command line as python It should take in two words on the command line (or optionally if you'd prefer it can query the user to supply the two words via the console). Given those two words: a. Ensure they are of equal length b. Ensure they are both words present in the dictionary of valid words in the English language that you downloaded. If so compute whether you can reach the second word from the first by a series of steps as follows a. You can change one letter at a time b. Each time you change a letter the resulting word must also exist in the dictionary c. You cannot add or remove letters If the two words are reachable, the script should print out the path which leads as a single, shortest path from one word to the other. You can /usr/share/dict/words for your dictionary of words. My solution consisted of using breadth first search to find a shortest path between two words. But apparently that wasn't good enough to get the job :( Would you guys know what I could have done wrong? Is this code even close to being correct? And what happens when I'm not building the entire database from scratch, as in this example. If the database already exists, do I have to query the database's TestVersion table to discover the unique version names? Thanks in advance. • Perl Script to search and replace in .SQL query file with user inputs

  I have a .SQL file containing a large number of queries. They are being run against a database containing data for multiple states over multiple years. The machine I am running this on can only handle running the queries for one state, in one year, at a time. I am trying to create a Perl script that takes user input for the state abbreviation, the state id number, and the year. It then creates a directory for that state and year. Then it opens the "base" .SQL file and searches and replaces the base state id and year with the user input, and saves this new .SQL file to the created directory. The current script I have (below) stops at open(IN,'<$infile') with "Can't open [filename]" It seems that it is having difficulty finding or opening the .SQL file. I have quadruple-checked to make sure the paths are correct, and I have even tried replacing the $path with an absolute path for the base file. There are two problems here: when I enter an invalid product number, I still have to enter an amount even while my code says it should print the error directly after checking if there is a product with the given code. The second problem is that the writing doesn't seem to work. It always give's a "No such file or directory" error. Is there a way to open the ORDER file I made in the first sub without having to make $name not local? Or just a way to write in this file? I really don't know how to start here. I can't really find much info on writing a file that has been closed before, and in a different sub. Any help is appreciated, Harm

There are two problems here: when I enter an invalid product number, I still have to enter an amount even while my code says it should print the error directly after checking if there is a product with the given code. The second problem is that the writing doesn't seem to work. It always give's a "No such file or directory" error. Is there a way to open the ORDER file i made in the first sub without having to make $name not local? Or just a way to write in this file? I really don't know how to start here. I can't really find much info on writing a file that has been closed before, and in a different sub.. Any help is appreciated, Harm
