  • Determining difference in timestamps for two values in the same MySQL table

    I am relatively new to programming in PHP, so I apologize if this is a rather simple question. I have a MySQL database table called MachineReports that contains the following values: ReportNum(primary key, auto increment), MachineID and Timestamp Here is some example data: |ReportNum | MachineID | Timestamp | |1 | AD3203 | 2012-11-18 06:32:28| |2 | AD3203 | 2012-11-19 04:00:15| |3 | BC4300 | 2012-11-19 04:00:15| What I am attempting to do is find the difference in timestamps in seconds for each machine ID by iterating over each row set. I am getting stuck on the best way to do this, however. One of the things I've considered is using a multidimensional array in php - using the $machineID as the key and then storing the timestamp inside the array the key points to. However, I'm uncertain how to do that since my query parses row by row. I have quite a few questions. 1) Is this the most efficient way to be doing this? I suspect my database table design may not be the best. 2)What would be the best way to determine the difference in timestamps for a certain machineID? Even just a pointer to a topic that would prompt me to think about this in a different way would be helpful - I'm not afraid to do research. Thanks!

I'm sure the way I have done this is far more cumbersome than it needs to be, and I'm looking for some advice how to achieve the same objective but more concisely. The list of int / string pairs will increase significantly. The ones in the above code are just the first three I intend to use.

  • Unleash the Power of Cryptography on SPARC T4

    by Rob Ludeman Oracle’s SPARC T4 systems are architected to deliver enhanced value for customer via the inclusion of many integrated features.  One of the best examples of this approach is demonstrated in the on-chip cryptographic support that delivers wire speed encryption capabilities without any impact to application performance.  The Evolution of SPARC Encryption SPARC T-Series systems have a long history of providing this capability, dating back to the release of the first T2000 systems that featured support for on-chip RSA encryption directly in the UltraSPARC T1 processor.  Successive generations have built on this approach by support for additional encryption ciphers that are tightly coupled with the Oracle Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 encryption framework.  While earlier versions of this technology were implemented using co-processors, the SPARC T4 was redesigned with new crypto instructions to eliminate some of the performance overhead associated with the former approach, resulting in much higher performance for encrypted workloads. The Superiority of the SPARC T4 Approach to Crypto As companies continue to engage in more and more e-commerce, the need to provide greater degrees of security for these transactions is more critical than ever before.  Traditional methods of securing data in transit by applications have a number of drawbacks that are addressed by the SPARC T4 cryptographic approach. 1. Performance degradation – cryptography is highly compute intensive and therefore, there is a significant cost when using other architectures without embedded crypto functionality.  This performance penalty impacts the entire system, slowing down performance of web servers (SSL), for example, and potentially bogging down the speed of other business applications.  The SPARC T4 processor enables customers to deliver high levels of security to internal and external customers while not incurring an impact to overall SLAs in their IT environment. 2. Added cost – one of the methods to avoid performance degradation is the addition of add-in cryptographic accelerator cards or external offload engines in other systems.  While these solutions provide a brute force mechanism to avoid the problem of slower system performance, it usually comes at an added cost.  Customers looking to encrypt datacenter traffic without the overhead and expenditure of extra hardware can rely on SPARC T4 systems to deliver the performance necessary without the need to purchase other hardware or add-on cards. 3. Higher complexity – the addition of cryptographic cards or leveraging load balancers to perform encryption tasks results in added complexity from a management standpoint.  With SPARC T4, encryption keys and the framework built into Solaris 10 and 11 means that administrators generally don’t need to spend extra cycles determining how to perform cryptographic functions.  In fact, many of the instructions are built-in and require no user intervention to be utilized.  For example, For OpenSSL on Solaris 11, SPARC T4 crypto is available directly with a new built-in OpenSSL 1.0 engine, called the "t4 engine."  For a deeper technical dive into the new instructions included in SPARC T4, consult Dan Anderson’s blog. Conclusion In summary, SPARC T4 systems offer customers much more value for applications than just increased performance. The integration of key virtualization technologies, embedded encryption, and a true Enterprise Operating System, Oracle Solaris, provides direct business benefits that supersedes the commodity approach to data center computing.   SPARC T4 removes the roadblocks to secure computing by offering integrated crypto accelerators that can save IT organizations in operating cost while delivering higher levels of performance and meeting objectives around compliance.   • Solaris 11.1: Encrypted Immutable Zones on (ZFS) Shared Storage

    Solaris 11 brought both ZFS encryption and the Immutable Zones feature and I've talked about the combination in the past.  Solaris 11.1 adds a fully supported method of storing zones in their own ZFS using shared storage so lets update things a little and put all three parts together. When using an iSCSI (or other supported shared storage target) for a Zone we can either let the Zones framework setup the ZFS pool or we can do it manually before hand and tell the Zones framework to use the one we made earlier.  To enable encryption we have to take the second path so that we can setup the pool with encryption before we start to install the zones on it. The zone administrator has no direct access to the ZFS wrapping keys used for the encrypted pool zone is stored on.  Due to how inheritance works in ZFS he can still create new encrypted datasets that use those wrapping keys (without them ever being inside a process in the zone) or he can create encrypted datasets inside the zone that use keys of his own choosing, the output below shows the two cases: rpool is inheriting the key material from the global zone (note we can see the value of the keysource property but we don't use it inside the zone nor does that path need to be (or is) accessible inside the zone).   • android: two issues using Tablerow+TextView in Tablelayout

    I am using Tablerow+TextView to make a simple view for blog posts and their replies. In each TableRow I put a TextView in. Now I have two issues: The text which is longer than the screen won't automatically wrap up to be multi-line. Is it by design of TableRow? I've already set tr_content.setSingleLine(false); [update] This has been addressed, I think I should change Fill_parent to be Wrap_content in textView.tr_author_time.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams( LayoutParams.**WRAP_CONTENT**, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)); The Table won't scroll like ListView. My rows are more than the screen size. I expect the table could be scrolled down for viewing just like ListView. Is that possible?   • Control third check box based on the state of the first two using jquery

    I have three check boxes and need to disable the third if either and/or of the other two are checked. I'm sure there's a easier way than what I have currently. It's turning into what I believe is a mess and I'm hoping that someone with more jquery knowledge can shine the light here. I don't understand why. This works, but one of the requirements is that a non programmer should be able to edit and maintain this. Ideally it'd be great if he could just add new check boxes to the html and it would work. The class for these are define and as far as I know can't be changed. The last check box in the list of check boxes will disable if any of the ones above are selected. Like wise if the last check box is selected, it will disable all the ones above it. I haven't even begun writing and testing that portion as this is quickly becoming too complicated for a non programmer to handle. I myself am more of a PHP coder than a js, let alone jquery, coder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    For the last two days, i tried my best to learn something about StructureMap, using an old project of mine as an concrete implementation example. I tried to simplify my question as much as possible. While i will post my examples in vb.net, answers with examples in C# are also okay. The project includes an interfaces called IDatabase which connects itself to a Database. The important part looks like this. Implementation ...] End Function [... more implementations...] End Class ConnectionSettings is a structure that has all the information needed to connect to a Database. I want to open the Database Connection once and use it for every single connection in the project, so i register a instance in the ObjectFactory. dim foo = ObjectFactory.GetInstance(Of MSSQLConnection)() dim bar as ConnectionSettings foo.connect(bar) ObjectFactory.Configure(Sub(x) x.For(Of IDatabase).Use(foo)) Up until this part, everything works like a charm. Public Class ExampleClass Public Sub New(ByVal SameOldDatabase as IDatabase, ByVal NewDatabase as IDatabase) [...] Magic happens here [...] End Sub End Class I want this second IDatabase to behave much like the first one. I want it to use a concrete, single instance and want to connect it to a different database invoking Connect with a different ConnectionSettings. The problem is: While i'm pretty sure it's somewhow possible, (my initial idea was registering ExampleClass with alternative constructor arguments), i actually want to do it without registering ExampleClass. This probably involves more configuration, but i have no idea how to do it. So, basically, it comes down to this question: How do i configurate the ObjectFactory in a way that the autowiring always invokes the constructor with object Database1 for the first IDatabase parameter and object Database2 for the second one (if there is one?)

  • Trouble cross-referencing two XML child nodes in AS3

    I am building a mini language translator out of XML nodes and Actionscript 3. I have my XML ready. It contains a series of nodes with two children in them. Here is a sample: <translations> <entry> <english>man</english> <cockney>geeza</cockney> </entry> <entry> <english>woman</english> <cockney>lily</cockney> </entry> </translations> The AS3 part consist of one input box named "textfield_txt" where the English word will be typed in. An output text field for the translation called "cockney_txt". Finally, one button to execute the translation called "generate_mc". The idea is to have actionscript look through the XML for key English words after the user types it in the "textfield", cross-freferences the children then returns the Cockney translation as a value. The trouble is, when I test it I get no response or error messages- it's completely silent. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. At present, I have setup a conditional statement to tell me whether the function works or not. The result is, no it's not! Here's the code below. I hope someone can help.     I'm using Windows Media Player in a web page. I have version 11 installed so that is the version I'm testing with right now. The player is embedded on the page with this HTML: <OBJECT id='MS_mediaPlayer' width="400" height="45" classid='CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6' codebase='http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701' standby='Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components...' type='application/x-oleobject'> <param name='autoStart' value="false"> <param name='uiMode' value="invisible"> <param name='loop' value="false"> </OBJECT> I'm calling in JavaScript: MS_mediaPlayer.URL = "SomeAudioFile.mp3" MS_mediaPlayer.controls.play(); When I look at Fiddler I can see that the player actually downloads "SomeAudioFile.mp3" twice. Is there some setting I have wrong? I was trying to set the "autoPlay" to true and avoid calling "play()". Got the same result - two downloads. UPDATE: The first request's user-agent is "Windows-Media-Player/11.0.5721.5268". Looks like the browser is running the same request the second time. No Idea why Any ideas? UPDATE (4/1/10): Still no solution. I debugged the JS thoroughly and there is only one call to MediaPlayer.URL='.....' to set the audio file. Nothing else triggers the media player to load the file and there is no other place referencing the audio file on the page. One other interesting fact is that this doesn't happen (the double loading of the audio) when I run the browser locally on my development web server. But other remote requests to the same web server generate the double audio loading. I believe I eliminated any correlation with specific IE version or media player version. This happens with IE6-8 and WM9-12

  • extremely small gap between two divs that are width 100%

    hi I have two container divs one of them has a div with an image background and i think this is the div that is causing problem. I tried removing both container divs and the gap was still here. there are no margins no paddings, and i know it is not the image that has this line its not there when i open it in photoshop. The binding is returning the correct value (and is a value in the listpicker) as i have texted it by assigning the text to a textblock.     Suppose I have two lists, how do I iterate through every possible combination of every sublist, such that each item appears once and only once. I guess an example could be if you have employees and jobs and you want split them into teams, where each employee can only be in one team and each job can only be in one team. Eg List<string> employees = new List<string>() { "Adam", "Bob"} ; List<string> jobs = new List<string>() { "1", "2", "3"}; I want Adam : 1 Bob : 2 , 3 Adam : 1 , 2 Bob : 3 Adam : 1 , 3 Bob : 2 Adam : 2 Bob : 1 , 3 Adam : 2 , 3 Bob : 1 Adam : 3 Bob : 1 , 2 Adam, Bob : 1, 2, 3 I tried using the answer to this stackoverflow question to generate a list of every possible combination of employees and every possible combination of jobs and then select one item from each from each list, but that's about as far as I got. I don't know the maximum size of the lists, but it would be certainly be less than 100 and there may be other limiting factors (such as each team can have no more than 5 employees) Update Not sure whether this can be tidied up more and/or simplified, but this is what I have ended up with so far.   • On Mac, two jpg's whose color should match do not

    So I'm designing a myspace page and I have two images, one is a repeating bg image, and another is an image which loads on a layer above it, which acts as a header/masthead. For some reason, on Macs only, and only in the browser (tested in safari and ff), the masthead renders slightly darker than the repeating bg image, creating this color inconsistency. The block that extends up behind the album artwork is a solid box made with css which blocks some of myspace's standard content. It actually renders as the proper color, blending in well with the bottom portion of this image, which is the repeating part of the background, but becomes noticeable as it extends up, over the masthead, which is darker than it should be. Both images where created in GIMP and saved as jpg's using, as far as i can tell, the same settings. Here's the pic of what is going on: Screenshot - Click Me!!!   • PHP Regex: How to match anything except a pattern between two tags

    Hello, I am attempting to match a string which is composed of HTML. Basically it is an image gallery so there is a lot of similarity in the string. There are a lot of <dl> tags in the string, but I am looking to match the last <dl>(.?)+</dl> combo that comes before a </div>. The way I've devised to do this is to make sure that there aren't any <dl's inside the <dl></dl> combo I'm matching. I don't care what else is there, including other tags and line breaks. I decided I had to do it with regular expressions because I can't predict how long this substring will be or anything that's inside it. Here is my current regex that only returns me an array with two NULL indicies: preg_match_all('/<dl((?!<dl).)+<\/dl>(?=<\/div>)/', $foo, $bar) As you can see I use negative lookahead to try and see if there is another <dl> within this one. I've also tried negative lookbehind here with the same results. I've also tried using +? instead of just + to no avail. Keep in mind that there's no pattern <dl><dl></dl> or anything, but that my regex is either matching the first <dl> and the last </dl> or nothing at all. Now I realize . won't match line breaks but I've tried anything I could imagine there and it still either provides me with the NULL indicies or nearly the whole string (from the very first occurance of <dl to </dl></div>, which includes several other occurances of <dl>, exactly what I didn't want). I honestly don't know what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks for your help! I've spent over an hour just trying to straighten out this one problem and it's about driven me to pulling my hair out.

  • Blending pixels from Two Bitmaps

    I'm beating my head against a wall here, and I'm fairly certain I'm doing something stupid, so time to make my stupidity public. I'm trying to take two images, blend them together into a third image using standard blending algorithms (Hardlight, softlight, overlay, multiply, etc). Because Android does not have such blend properties build in, I've gone down the path of taking each pixel and combine them using an algorithm. However, the results are garbage. Any help would be appreciated. Below is the code, which I've tried to strip out all the "junk", but some may have made it through. I'll clean it up if something isn't clear.
