  • Is it possible to make ListView display a text obtained through its ListViewItem.Tag?

    I'd like to fill System.Windows.Forms.ListView with the items I've stored in a separate System.Collections.Generics.List<. I would like to avoid to store the data twice, once in the List< and once as a string in ListViewItem. Is there a way to make ListViewItem use some callback function to obtain the text to put in its columns from the Tag property, instead of using its Text property?

  • Architectural Design for a Data-Driven Silverlight WP7 app

    I have a Silverlight Windows Phone 7 app that pulls data from a public API. I find myself doing much of the same thing over and over again: In the UI, set a loading message or loading progress bar in place of where the content is Get the content, which may be already in memory, cached in isolated file storage, or require an HTTP request If the content can not be acquired (no network connection, etc), display an error message If the content is acquired, display it in the UI Keep the content in main memory for subsequent queries The content that is displayed to the user can be taken directly from a data source, such as an ObservableCollection, or it may be a query on a data source. I would like to factor out this repetitive process into a framework where ideally only the following needs to be specified: Where to display the content in the UI The UI elements to show while loading, on failure, and on success The URI of the HTTP request How to parse the HTTP response into the data structure that will kept in memory The location of the file in isolated storage, if it exists How to parse the file contents into the data structure that will be kept in memory It may sound like a lot, but two strings, three FrameworkElements, and two methods is less than the overhead that I currently have. Also, this needs to work for however the data is maintained in memory, and needs to work for direct collections and queries on those collections. My questions are: Has something like this already been implemented? Are my thoughts about the topic above fundamentally wrong in some way? Here is a design I'm thinking of: There are two components, a View and a Model. The View is given the FrameworkElements for loading, failure, and success. It is also given a reference to the corresponding Model. The View is a UserControl that is placed somewhere in the UI. The Model a class that is given the URI for the data, a method of how to parse the data, and optionally a filename and how to parse the file. It is responsible for retrieving the data and notifying the View whenever the current status (loading/fail/success) changes. If the data downloaded from the network is different from the cache, the network data takes precedence. When the app closes or is tombstoned, the model writes the data to the cache. How does that sound?

  • C# 'could not found' existing method

    Greetings! I've been fooling around (a bit) with C# and its assemblies. And so i've found such an interesting feature as dynamic loading assemblies and invoking its class members. A bit of google and here i am, writing some kind of 'assembly explorer'. (i've used some portions of code from here, here and here and none of 'em gave any of expected results). But i've found a small bug: when i tried to invoke class method from assembly i've loaded, application raised MissingMethod exception. I'm sure DLL i'm loading contains class and method i'm tryin' to invoke (my app ensures me as well as RedGate's .NET Reflector): The main application code seems to be okay and i start thinking if i was wrong with my DLL... Ah, and i've put both of projects into one solution, but i don't think it may cause any troubles. And yes, DLL project has 'class library' target while the main application one has 'console applcation' target. So, the question is: what's wrong with 'em?     I have a number of database table that looks like this: EntityId int : 1 Countries1: "1,2,3,4,5" Countries2: "7,9,10,22" I would like to have NHibernate load the Country entities identifed as 1,2,3,4,5,7,9 etc. whenever my EntityId is loaded. The reason for this is that we want to avoid a proliferation of joins, as there are scores of these collections.

The user control makes use of a Model: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<BudgieMoneySite.Models.SiteUserLoginModel>" %> This user control is shown on all screens (Part of the Master Page). If the user is logged in, it shows a certain text, and if the user isn't logged in, it offers a login box. That is working OK. Now, I am adding my first functional screen. So I created a new view... and, well, i generated the basic view code for me when I selected the controller method, and said 'Create View'. When I run it, I get an error: "The model item passed into the dictionary is of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[BudgieMoneySite.Models.AccountTransactionDetails]', but this dictionary requires a model item of type 'BudgieMoneySite.Models.SiteUserLoginModel'." It looks like the user control is being rendered first, and as the Model from the controller is my List<, it's breaking! What am I doing wrong?

    ok I was going to edit my previous question but i wasnt sure if it was the right way to do it so i'll just give another question about Comparator, now i want to be able to sort with different ways.     I have System.Collections.Generic.List _myList and many threads can read from it or add items to it simultaneously. From what I've read I should using 'BlockingCollection' so this will work. I also read about ReaderWriterLockSlim' and 'lock', but I don't figure out how to use them instead ofBlockingCollection`, so my question is can I do the same with: ReaderWriterLockSlim lock instead of using 'BlockingCollection'. If YES, can you please provide simple example and what pros and cons of using BlockingCollection, ReaderWriterLockSlim, lock?

  • Deserialize JSON, sometimes value is an array, sometimes "" (blank string).

    I am trying to deserialize a field: "presenters":[{...},{...}] but some of the rows come back with only: "presenters":"" When the serializer gets to the row with that empty string I get: Error converting value "" to type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[DataPrototype.Model.Presenter]'. Am I right in thinking that I need a JsonConverter that will change the empty string into an empty List?

    For example, "Don't return objects by value if they are expensive to copy" (RVO can't always be used). This advice might change because of rvalue references. The same might be said about storing collections of pointers to objects, because copying them by value into the collection was too expensive; this reason might no longer be valid. Or the use of enums might be discouraged in favour of "enum class". What other practices or tips will change?

  • Comparison of IPEndPoint objects not working

    I have an IPEndPoint a and b, whose IPAddress and Port are exactly the same, but the == operator is on the IPEndPoint not returning true. To make things even stranger, I tried to circumvent the problem by simply comparing the IPAddress and Port individually and it is STILL not returning true. Has anyone encountered this before? If so, I am all ears to performant solutions. We have collections of as many as 10k IPEndPoints and are querying into them via LINQ (PLINQ pretty soon).

  • Are there any data-binding solution that works in C++ and GWT and supports structures polymorphism?

    I expect it should share a common description, like XmlSchema or IDL and should generate classes for target language. I found Thrift and it's really nice solution, but it doesn't support structures polymorphism. I would like to have collections of base class objects, where I could place instances of subclasses, serialize this and deserialize at the opposite side. Some mechanism of polymorphic behavior support, like Visitor, would be a perfect. Does anybody know something suitable for these requirements?
