• Wake on Lan/Wan won't work after some time has passsed

  I have the following set up: Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Wake On Lan Enabled Asus N66U Port Forwarding Static IP assigned to my computer Windows 7 Advanced Power Management - PCI Express - Off Intel 82579V - All options under Power Management checked I'm trying to set this up for Wake on Wan capabilities. If I shut down my computer and immediately try to Wake on Wan (and Lan) it works and starts up. While the computer is on, I've used a few WOL specific packet sniffers and the packet comes through on the correct port. After any period of time over a few minutes, waking on Wan or Lan won't work. The back "activity" light is blinking on my ethernet port on my computer, as well as on the router, so I would assume the network card is on and able to receive a signal. Any ideas? Suggestions? What can I do to troubleshoot the problem?

• Supermicro SmartOS setup issue with HDDs

  I'm trying to setup SmartOS on my new Supermicro server (SYS-6027R-N3RF4+). I have 8 HDDs + 2 SSDs installed in the hot-swappable drive bays. I have not configured the Intel RAID controller on the machine (it shows no RAID configured, and lists all 8 HDDs). When I boot SmartOS from my USB key for the first time and get to the initial zpool creation I only see 2 disks listed. How can I tell which two drives are being referenced? How can I get SmartOS to recognize all 8+2 drives? Is there a BIOS setting I need to adjust?

• Why aren't google api clients built on top of Apache's Abdera project ?

  Hey, Could anybody please explain that to me? As far as I can see, the developers of java's google api client library are reinventing the wheel. It's like writing a new JDK for a Java project. I'm aware of the fact that google data protocol is a little specific re atom publishing, but if one needs to use some of the fancy extensions and features that Apache Abdera project offers for this protocol, it is better not to use google api client library and implement the client from scratch with Abdera... And I'm sure that in a lot of cases its features such as Abdera's JCR adapter would become very handy for google docs, google translator toolkit and others. Now it's great that there is a google api client library to be used for google docs, but what am I going to do with the documents? I believe that in more than a half cases there is also a repository or database on the other side. And in that case, abdera is needed, not the simple google api clients that are only marshalling/unmarshalling the feeds... In fact, there is something to persist in all of the google APIs. It would make sense, if google decided to invest the effort into Abdera enhancement... This doesn't... Also for the question to be more specific: How are you developing google api clients, that need entry persistence (JCR for instance) ? What would be the best way to integrate a google api client library with Apache Abdera ?

  Will this increase my Virtual private Server failing rate if i :- install Microsoft Window Server 2008 Enterprise install SQL server enterprise 2008 install IIS 7.5 install ASP.Net Mvc 2 install Microsoft Exchange install Team foundation server on one mini VPS with specification of DELL Poweredge R710 shared plan DDR3 ECC RAMs 16GB and -- 1GB for this VPS using DELL PERC 6i raid controller (this thing alone about 1.5k-2k) and the SAS HDD (15K RPM) (146GB) -- 33GB to this VPS each hdd is freaking fast over 300MB read / write possible with proper tuning the motherboard is a DELL and it has twin redundant PSU (870watt 85%eff) its running on Intel Xeon 5502 (Quad Core) x2 so about 8 physical proc (fairly share) is there any ruler for this about one VPS can only install what what what service ? • What is the best OS for a server hosting a simple Ruby on Rails based pastebin

  I have created a simple pastebin in Ruby on Rails and Python. I want to host it in an intranet and it will have like about 1000 users. I want to use one Apache server with a cluster of Mongrel servers. The server itself is a 2 GHz Intel Centrino with 2 GB RAM. What do you think is the best OS to host this? I thought about Damn Small Linux or a custom LFS system. Ubuntu servers come with loads of stuff I don't need. Maybe there are some better OSes? It must be capable of: Running Apache Running Ruby Running Python Running Mongrel with Ruby on Rails SSH Can anyone reccomend me one? Thanks. PS: I am not going to run Windows Server or Mac OS X Server (Mac's are expensive).

• nVidia Control Panel Won't Recognize SLI

  So yesterday I bought a brand new, 1,000W PSU to replace my 650W one and to allow for SLI. I install it and my second card (both are GTX 560 ti cards). I reinstalled my drivers and my system recognizes both cards. The control panel says "GTX 560 ti x2", I can select between them for Physx, sound output, picture output (although I only have one hooked up to my monitor), etc. But the kicker is I can't turn on SLI. Everything I've read says I'll get a balloon notification saying I can use SLI and the control panel will have a new section, etc, but none of those things happens. Anyone have any ideas? System: Win7 Professional x64 2x GTX 560 ti 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 1,000W Xion PSU 8GB RAM (Can't think of my motherboard right now) Note: My PSU and MOBO both say they're SLI certified and I'm using an SLI bridge. • Bridge virtual machines out WLAN interface

  It seems that my wlan card (intel 5100 AGN) firmware doesn't allow "spoofing" MAC addresses. This has the side effect of destroying the capability to bridge out my virtual machines on that interface. Apparently this is a common thing on wlan cards. I can see the incoming traffic just fine in my virtual machines, but their DHCP queries don't get bridged out of the WLAN card. It works perfectly well when using the wired ethernet port. Is there a workaround for this? MAC-NAT or something? I don't want to route my virtual machines out to the Internet because I don't want my host OS to even have an IP address. I'm using Linux and KVM for virtualization.

• Most efficient Way to setup a game server

  I'm running a PHP based game which has over 45 Million members predicted for end of this year (2011) Currently we are on 7.5 Million, this game is being ran on facebook and I am in desperate need to help get this game server as efficient and as powerful as possible. it is a dedicated server with Processor Manufacturer Intel Model i7 920 Frequency 4x 2x 2.66 GHz NIC GigaEthernet RAM 12 GB Hard disk 4 x 1 TB specs. It has apache installed, cPanel, phpMyAdmin, several apache mods and MySQL. The game also runs 47 mysql calls per second per user. Is there any alternatives to the above which could be faster, more efficient etc? I dont mind having to recode the game to fit to it, as long as it maximises our upper limit of members on the game. Thanks Also, is there a way to tell what our maximum limit to players, database calls etc is? Thank you again, hope you guys can help :)

• C & MinGW: Hello World gives me the error "programm too big to fit in memory"

  I'm new here. Here's my problem: I installed MinGW on my Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Netbook with Intel Atom CPU N550, 1.50GHz and 2GB RAM. Now I made a file named hello.h and tried to compile it via CMD with the following command: "gcc c:\workspace\c\helloworld\hello.h -o out.exe" It compiles with no error, but when I try to run out.exe, it gives me following error: "program too big to fit in memory" Things I have checked: I have added "C:\MinGW\bin" to the Windows PATH Variable I have googled for about one hour, but ever since I'm a newbie, I can't really figure out what the problem is. I have compiled the same code on my 64-bit machine, compiles perfectly, but cannot be run due to 64-bit <- 16-bit problematic. I'd really appreciate, if someone could figure out, what the problem is. • Should I upgrade Exchange 2003 or just upgrade the hardware?

  My organization currently has a 4 y/o Exchange 2003 email server (32-bit, Intel Pentium D @ 3GHz, 3GB RAM). It's run very well over the past 4 years but it is time to upgrade its hardware. This server would handle email for approximately 30 clients, a few OWA users with iPhones. My (somewhat ambiguous) question is, when I receive the new hardware should I build out a new Exchange 2003 deployment or should I look at Exchange 2007 / 2010? I've heard that Exchange 2010 requires Sharepoint 2010 (which I am currently not running). Are there benefits that a small-medium sized business can or can't do without? Am I making a horrible mistake staying with antiquated software? Other details: Exchange 2003 (v6.5 + SP2) single front-end server All opinions and thoughts are very much appreciated.

• Buying Video Card for 1600x900 monitor?

  I just bought a monitor for a relative's computer (Intel 82915G chipset) which should produce 1600x900. Though the current card can produce 1600x1200, there's no way (that I know of) to force it to produce 1600x900. Assuming buying a card would be a solution, how would one find a cheap video card that can do 1600x900? They don't seem to list the modes in most ads. If I'm missing something in Windows, please let me know, but I've looked around quite a bit and tried many things (including unsupported resolutions, etc).

• How can I access the external microphone with Ubuntu?

  Sound in Ubuntu, it has its own special joy. I would like my external microphone to work. Symptoms: I can play sound through the speakers I can play sound through the headsets. Plugging and and plugging headphone output correctly switches. I can record from the built-in microphone, using "Sound Recorder" and others. but: I cannot record from the external microphone. My Sound Preferences/Input panel has no option for an external microphone. If the answer is upgrade the ALSA drivers, please say exactly what to type. • Computer Randomly Restarts (no crash dump)

  Hey everyone this is my first time here, so, my computer got pulled out of his place the other day by accident and it never got back to working decently ever again. I just stopped using it because everytime i power it on, it restarts. Some times it doesn't even reach the desktop, others it even allows me to run a game or something. It gets really random. Today i was trying my last attempt before sending it to fix and it ran fine for 40 minutes but as i tried to run a game the screen got really messeud up full of colorful lines and stuff and i'm assuming it had to do with the graphics card. Altho, my question is, what can be causing all this restart thingie? Can it be just the Power Supply failing me and hence, not giving enough power to make the graphic card go for instance? • Computer not displaying anything

  The computer in question worked last week. It's brand new, never been connected to the internet, up-to-date parts, etc. Last week, I installed some 3D software on it, then shut it down and waited for the license files that arrived this week. I've done this to 4 other PCs with the same hardware and software. I've tried: Hooking it up to 3 different monitors using different video cables 2 other graphics cards and a handful of other things like switching which port it's plugged into before and after a restart. I have the driver disc, and a windows reinstallation disc, but they won't do me any good because no display at all for any interval of time. All the fans are moving: psu, gfx, cpu etc, so I don't believe it's a power issue. Here are the specs I know of: 4GB RAM 8800 GTX 700w PSU Intel dual core (not sure of model) Anyways, I'm open to ideas.

  I have created a simple blog application with Ruby on Rails. The applications consists of two tables, posts and comments. Comments belongs_to :post and posts has_many :comments. I created posts table with the following columns: title:string, body:text. I created the comments table with the following columns: body:text post_id:integer name:string email:string In the /views/comments/index.html.erb display I would like to show a listing of all comments w/ the post title as well. Currently, the index view only displays post_id, body, name, email. How do I replace the post_id column with the corresponding post title? • I just ordered 70/10 line, and need a new router I think?

  Before I had the 25/5 line and the n standard router did just fine. Now it doesn't do the job. Online speedtest reads at 82 so I have the line. But my laptop is getting less than 30 in my room. My laptop has the following WiFi card: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-6205.html What is this talk about 2,5 and 5ghz? Can my laptop be connected at once over both bandwidths? And that would let me use the full 70Mb over wifi? Hope it's ok to ask network questions here.

  Recently, some discussions came up about 32 bit vs. 64 bit implementations of operating systems. While I was composing a message about this topic, I realized that I did not know if there was a correct term for the number of bits supported by an operating system. For example, various versions of Solaris and Linux have 32bit and 64bit releases. Is the distinction "architecture"? In my experience, that has referred to chip types (Intel vs. PPC). Is it a "release"? Typically, I think of a release as a version number a consistent feature set, that might run on different architectures. Maybe it is just "architecture", after all, even though a chip family might have used several different bit sizes over time, the chips themselves are different when you jump from 32bit to 64bit.

• Boot camp with Vista crashes on startup

  I have a 2006 vintage MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) and have been using Boot Camp since it was in beta. I had been running XP SP2 on it with Tiger quite happily. I've recently wiped and reinstalled everything to upgrade to Leopard. After installing Leopard, I fired up the Boot camp assistant and used it to install the Windows 7 RC. That worked really nicely, but my HFS+ driver didn't work under Windows 7 yet so I decided to install Vista instead. I didn't repartition the drive, just launched the Vista installation disk from BIOS and told it to overwrite the existing Windows 7 install. It installed fine and I installed the Boot Camp drivers, still all fine. Now, however, every time I boot into Windows and login it hard reboots itself as the desktop is appearing. After this it works fine again. Until the next power off. Has anyone had any similar problems? Or can offer suggestions on how to solve this?

• How does the build quality of laptops compare?

  I'm looking to replace my 5 year old laptop. I want my next laptop to endure at least this long. I typically have Thunderbird, Firefox, Eclipse Java IDE, Skype, a ssh session, and Apache Tomcat running. I'm currently running Karmic Ubuntu, but am agnostic about operating system and would move to Win 7 or OS X. I frequently travel with this computer. I also value battery longevity and power conservation (if possible). Above all I'm looking to minimize cost. I think the hardware that best meets my needs is an Intel i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 100GB @7200 rpm or SSD hardrive, and about 15 inch monitor. These specs are met by most brands. Does anyone know specific pros/cons and build quality for Macbook Pro, Lenovo Thinkpad (W510 or T510), Sony's VPC-F1190, and ASUS G Series G73JH-X1 NoteBook? Are all i7 processors created equal? Do you have other suggestion that meet my needs?

• Why my new GTX 660m's clock drops drastically after running few seconds

  I bought a Lenovo Y580 laptop few days ago, this model is equipped with GTX 660m graphics card. However, the game performance is unbelievably poor since it out from the box. I realized there is something wrong with this graphics card. I downloaded GPU-z, and did a simple test. And I was shocked by the fact that my GTX 660m graphics card is running at 135.0mhz core clock. (It should be 835mhz at least!) Even the integrated graphics card "Intel HD graphics 4000" can run at 650mhz. Further examining showed that in the first few seconds GTX 660m was actually running at 835mhz, however the core temperature quickly reached 90+°C and the clock (maybe) automatically drop to 135.0mhz. This is very strange. Anyone has any idea what's going on here?

• How to discern video details from Linux Live CD

  I was having trouble getting X.Org to work with the video card in a recently aquired laptop, so I decided to try to probe around the configuration of a Linux Live CD to figure out how to set up my kernel. I chose the Sabayon 5.0 Live DVD because it was the only one that I could find that was the same or newer than the 2.6.32 kernel I have installed on the laptop right now. Of course, the DVD booted right into GNOME without issue, unlike the hangs and crashes that I had been getting. So, I want to figure out what kernel driver this Live DVD is currently using, but I don't know how to. hwinfo doesn't shed any light on the matter, and lspci -vnn doesn't list a driver for my video device, though both methods correctly identify that I have an Intel 855GM video processor. How can I find out this information?

• IBM laptop remove access-connections

  I installed IBM Access Connections on my IBM t61 laptop to manage my wireless connections but it simply will not connect to my network. I want to uninstall it and try the Intel software which is capable to performing the same task. However, when I go into "Control Panel" - "Add/Remove Programs" and try to "Remove" this package, it simply opens up a screen and closes it immediately. This happens too fast for me to see whether its an error. Has anyone encountered this issue ? The event logs do not show any error.

• Stuttery 1080p playback on decent system

  We have a media center system that was recently built. It works well for all types of content, however it has issues with 1080p content. 720p plays fine. I have tried VLC, ffdshow and finally, CoreAVC. CoreAVC plays the best however it still eventually loses sync due to stutter - this does not happen on other systems with the same file. Specs: Asrock 4core-2dual sata PCI Express ATI 2400 HD 1.5GB DDR 2100 Intel Pentium E5300 120GB Maxtor Diamondmax PATA Any ideas?
