• Silverlight Html Placeholder now support OOB mode

  With the official Silverlight 4 release this week, one of the things we introduced in the Telerik Silverlight controls is the ability to use the Html Placeholder control in OOB in the same way you do when the control is hosted in the browser. The good news is that you don't need to do anything in order to enable this feature. It comes out of the box and if you have an app that is using the HtmlPlaceholder you just need to install it in OOB mode to see the same html that you are seeing when the application is hosted in the browser. • MacBook Pro 5.5 32-bit or 64-bit 12.04 LTS

  I'm currently running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on a Macbook Pro 5.5. I'm dealing with a couple of issues with the backlight and other little pesky things which with my understanding could be caused by the silly Mac, or just a brand new LTS, or both. Is it known for macs running ubuntu to run better with the 64-bit or 32-bit? I know that the bit size deals with info transfer, but I'm just curious if the versions react differently with the macs cpu and hardware (for example if I switch to 32-bit would the backlight issue be resolved) and resulting in a better user experience. =) thanks in advance

• Why doesn't compiz show the outline when I use the grid?

  When I drag windows, instead of getting an outline like I would on a clean install, I get nothing, so I don't know what function the plugin will use before releasing the mouse, other than what I guess it will do. Is there something known to cause this to happen, and what can I do to get back the outline? (NB: I have the outline enabled in the plugin settings, so please do not ask me to enable it :D (lol)!) EDIT: Now I have reinstalled the compiz plugins cleanly and still noting :(. What can I do?

  We are developing a web application with a fairly standard registration process which requires a client/user to verify their email address before they are allowed to use the site. The site also allows users to change their email address after verification (with a re-type email field, as well). What are the pros and cons of having the user re-verify their email. Is this even needed? • Receiving requests where absolute URL on page are morphed to relative URLs

  In our web pages, we have a hyperlink with an href to an absolute URL: https://some.other.host.com/blah.aspx?var1=val1&var2=val2 For some reason, in our logs, we see a lot of requests to URLs of this format: http://our.site.com/https:/some.other.host.com/blah.aspx?var1=val1&var2=val2 We don't have any JavaScript that would request that URL; it only appears inside of a hyperlink. Is there some sort of known bot, browser plugin, bug, etc. that could be responsible for these requests being made?

• Ensure we're found in Facebook search for both full & abbreviated company names?

  We have a client with a facebook page, let's say his company is called Bob Roberts Super Widgets. And if you search in Facebook for Bob Roberts Super Widgets then up he pops. But the shorthand he's commonly known by is BR Super Widgets and indeed the website we've created for him is br-super-widgets.com. In Facebook, searching for BR Super Widgets doesn't show up our Mr Bob. We don't have a lot of Facebook expertise, so asking for help here. Does anyone know how to ensure you're found in Facebook search for both short and long company names? Have found this this similar question in the Facebook forum but the poor old questioner never got a response.

  Sure, object-oriented techniques are great and have stuck around for a while. I know only less than a handful of critics of the OO principles. It seems as though most non-OO designs and architectures are shunned, yet we continue to write a lot of good software in C and solve a lot of data changes via awk/sed and countless other examples. Correct tool for the correct job, yes? I'm having a hard time finding articles, presentations, or published criticisms of OO (even Fred Brooks has blessed information hiding). • How web server choose between unicode and utf-8 for accentued characters?

  I have a web server with my ISP which replaces in the urls the accentued characters by their unicode values: for instance é (eacute) is translated to %e9 (dec 233). For testing I use locally Easyphp which translate those characters by their utf-8 equivalence: é is then replaced by the well known sequence %c3%a9 (é)... Browsers served by Easyphp don't decode unicode values but they do if running locally (utf-8 and non converted accent also)... I have been unable to find where this behavior is configured in the server. This is a problem as some urls are built by my application using the php rawurlencode() which seems to always encode with unicode values on both servers. Any idea? Thanks in advance.
