    I have two files which show all contats in a database, then edits them. The second script keeps directing the browser back due to this part.   • how to run this qt script? (newbie question)

    I have a qt script(barchart.qs) that creates a graph for me. I don't know how i can incorporate(ie show the graph) in my qt mainwindow.   • No data when attempting to get JSONP data from cross domain PHP script

    I am trying to pull latitude and longitude values from another server on a different domain using a singe id string. I am not very familiar with JQuery, but it seems to be the easiest way to go about getting around the same origin problem. I am unable to use iframes and I cannot install PHP on the server running this javascript, which is forcing my hand on this. My queries appear to be going through properly, but I am not getting any results back. I was hoping someone here might have an idea that could help, seeing as I probably wouldn't recognize most obvious errors here.   • Problem with script to add/delete from database

    Ok - the user enters a product code, price and name using a form - the script then either adds it to the database or deletes it from the database. If the user is trying to delete a product that is not in the database they get a error message. Upon successful adding/deleting they also get a message.   • How can I change guest session defaults with a script?

    I need to create a script to change the guest session defaults because the computers I installed Ubuntu on have only 448mb RAM, which is not enough to have two sessions running simultaneously. I want to write a script that will... create the guest-session folder in /etc; create the skel folder in /etc/guest-session/; copy all the content (including subfolders and files) in /tmp/guest-xxxx/; paste all that content into /etc/guest-session/skel/; and change the default desktop to GNOME Classic instead of Unity 2D (this can be separate from the script if it's easier to do as a general setting), ...all within the guest-session. This is for a project installing Ubuntu in cyber-cafes so it's critical to the project. I appreciate any help you can offer.

  • Why does this script not open parallel gnome-terminals on a server?

    Why am I not able to have parallel gnome-terminals on my server while I can on my client. Here is a test that illustrates the problem. #!/bin/bash # this is the parent script gnome-terminal --command "./left.sh" sleep 10 gnome-terminal --command "./right.sh" #!/bin/bash echo "this is the left script" read -p "press any key to close this terminal" key #!/bin/bash echo "this is the right script" read -p "press any key to close this terminal" key When I run this on a regular ubuntu desktop (maverick) I see two terminals after 10 seconds. When I run this on a maverick server at a server farm, the second window does not appear until after I close the first one and wait 10 seconds. I am using tightvncserver to view the server desktop. (I could have simplified a bit more. The 10 second sleep is extraneous to the problem. In my real world application I need the first terminal to do some real work before starting the second. The problem probably still exists even if there is no sleep.)

I see that script method is often used by game developers for NPC text, but is it better then a XML file? We've thought that a XML file with tags like <FirstText>[text1]<SecondText>[text2] et cetera is perfect for NPC text and also for possible quests to give the player. So what are the differences between this two methods? Is a script suitable for this aim?

    I want to change my wallpaper in Ubuntu 11.10 (with Unity) in a small Python script. I found the possibility to change it via the gconf-editor in /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename. With python-gconf, I'm able to change the necessary values. Apparently, the gconf string is not read out. If I change it (either via a script or via gconf-editor), the wallpaper remains and in the menu of "Change wallpaper", the old wallpaper is shown. How am I able to change the wallpaper for Unity via a Python script? The following code does work.   • Run a script with user interaction on log out / shutdown?

    I'd like to run a script on shut down, which interrupts the logout process and and pops up a window with zenity. My target is to get autofsck working with lightdm. It seems to work with 12.04 after installing the old *.deb file, if one runs the check script manually. In order to use it, it should run automatically on log out and ask the user if she/he wants to check the disc on shutdown. There is the option session-cleanup-script in the file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf which seems to work, if a bash file with full path is used (I can't place the command directly there). But if I press shutdown, there is no time for a user choice. Is there any other option to solve this problem?

At the moment it traverses thru all the tree structure fine, but switching from one parent to another does not close the previous children, but rather only the each individual parents elements as a user browses. This senior C programmer refuses to use abstractions because "abstraction is for lame programmers and _real_ programmers do not need it."   • Unable to remove limit on memory usage for PHP script.

    The Situation I am having an issue with a PHP script getting the following error message: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 359923712) (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /path/to/piwik/core/DataTable.php on line 969 The script I'm running is: /path/to/piwik/misc/cron/archive.sh I am assuming the numbers are Bytes, which means that total is approximately 360MB. For all intents and purposes, I have increased the memory limits on the server well above 360MB, yet this is the number (give or take a byte) it consistently errors out at. Please note: This question is not about fixing a memory leak in the script, nor about why the script itself is using so much memory. The script is part of the Piwik archiving process, so I cannot just fix any memory leaks, etc. For more info on this script and why I am increasing the memory limit, see "How to setup auto archiving" The question Given that the script is attempting to use over 360MB of memory, which I cannot change, why does it not seem possible for me to increase the amount of memory available to php on my server? What I've tried Increasing PHP's memory_limit Given the php.ini file: php -i | grep php.ini Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /usr/local/lib Loaded Configuration File => /usr/local/lib/php.ini I have edited that file, so the memory_limit directive reads; memory_limit = -1 Restart Apache, and check the new value has stuck; $ php -i | grep memory_limit memory_limit => -1 => -1 Run the script, and get the same error. I've also tried 1G, 768M, etc, all to the same result (ie; no change). Update 22nd June: Based on Vangel's help, I have attempted to set post_max_size to 20M in combination with setting memory_limit. Again, this has no effect. Removing the memory limit on child processes of Apache I have found and edited the httpd.conf file to make sure there is no RLimitMEM directive. I then used WHM's Apache Configuration Memory Usage Restrictions to generate a restriction, which it claimed was at 1000M (and confirmed by checking httpd.conf). Both of these resulted in no change to the script erroring at 360MB. Increasing the per process memory limits of Linux The current limits set on the system: $ ulimit -m 524288 $ ulimit -v 524288 I have attempted to set both of these to unlimited: $ ulimit -m unlimited $ ulimit -v unlimited $ ulimit -m unlimited $ ulimit -v unlimited Once again, this has resulted in absolutely no improvement in my problem.     Given an absolute or relative path (in a Unix-like system), I would like to determine the full path of the target after resolving any intermediate symlinks. Bonus points for also resolving ~username notation at the same time. If the target is a directory, it might be possible to chdir() into the directory and then call getcwd(), but I really want to do this from a shell script rather than writing a C helper. Unfortunately, shells have a tendency to try to hide the existence of symlinks from the user (this is bash on OS X): $ ls -ld foo bar drwxr-xr-x 2 greg greg 68 Aug 11 22:36 bar lrwxr-xr-x 1 greg greg 3 Aug 11 22:36 foo -> bar $ cd foo $ pwd /Users/greg/tmp/foo $ What I want is a function resolve() such that when executed from the tmp directory in the above example, resolve("foo") == "/Users/greg/tmp/bar".

    I currently work in a position that i have to manage and access 1000s of pages for troubleshooting and new setup.... and im trying to figure out a way for firefox or chrome to setup ANYtime it sees for instance a a web based page for equipment like (CISCO, Linksys, Sonicwall, T1 controllers) from the manufacture in the Title bar or from the originating page place a set up 2 - 3 passwords to auto log on with. 1st one of course being the most common so it logs in faster.. I access about 14 different web based products with passwords tied to each of them and if someway i can grab info stating that hey this company is cisco/sonicwall/linksys/hp/ log on with these set of 3-5 credintials. Using possible If then statements.... is that hard i saw some script files but not sure if its difficult because some apps use the MSG BOX built in feature and some use the form submit method built on the page unless i can have 2 different grease monkey scripts at the same time.... thanks.

    Hello, normally I would use Python/Perl for this procedure but I find myself (for political reasons) having to pull this off using a bash shell. I have a large tab delimited file that contains six columns and the second column is integers. I need to shell script a solution that would verify that the file indeed is six columns and that the second column is indeed integers. I am assuming that I would need to use sed/awk here somewhere.
