  • MVC Design Question

    I'm trying to build a pager where it's just Next / Previous buttons that call a jquery function that post a JSON request. Inside the function, the current page "index" is retrieved from a hidden field and passed to the controller. Inside the controller, I reset the index if I'm on the last page of data. How would I pass the new index value back to the view? Or is there a better way to do what i'm trying to do? Thanks

  • Question about architecting asp.net mvc application ?

    I have read little bit about architecture and also patterns in order to follow the best practices. So this is the architecture we have and I wanted to know what you think of it and any proposed changes or improvements to it - Presentation Layer - Contains all the views,controllers and any helper classes that the view requires also it containes the reference to Model Layer and Business Layer. Business Project - Contains all the business logic and validation and security helper classes that are being used by it. It contains a reference to DataAccess Layer and Model Layer. Data Access Layer - Contains the actual queries being made on the entity classes(CRUD) operations on the entity classes. It contains reference to Model Layer. Model Layer - Contains the entity framework model,DTOs,Enums.Does not really have a reference to any of the above layers. What are your thoughts on the above architecture ? The problem is that I am getting confused by reading about like say the repository pattern, domain driven design and other design patterns. The architecture we have although not that strict still is relatively alright I think and does not really muddle things but I maybe wrong. I would appreciate any help or suggestions here. Thanks !

  • How to make paging start from 1 instead of 0 in ASP.NET MVC

    I used the paging example of the Nerddinner tutorial. But I also wanted to add page Numbers, somehting like that: <<< 1 2 3 4 5 6 The code below works if i start my paging from 0, but not from 1. How can I fix this ?   • How to post data from user control - asp.net mvc

    Currently i am working on project in which login user control is there in master page. earlier i had seperate login.aspx page and was able to call login method of home controller (with acceptverb = post). now we have changed the idea, want to place login control on master page (home page). Now when i click on login button of login control - it calls login method of controller class with acceptver = get. how can i call login method with acceptverb = post?

  • MVC and binding to List of Checkboxes

    Here is my problem. I have a list of models that are displayed to the user. On the left is a checkbox for each model to indicate that the user wants to choose this model (in this case, we're building products a user can add to their shopping cart). The model has no concept of being chosen...it strictly has information about the product in question. I've talked with a few other developers after having gone through and the best I could come up with is getting the formcollection and string parsing the key values to determine whether the checkbox is checked or not. This doesn't seem ideal. I was thinking there would be something more strongly bound, but I can't figure out a way to do it. I tried creating another model that had a boolean property to represent being checked and a property of the model and passing a list of that model type to the view and creating a ActionResult on the controller that accepts a list of the new model / checked property, but it comes back null. Am I just thinking too much like web forms and should just continue on with parsing checkbox values? Here's what I've done for wrapping the models inside a collection: public class SelectableCollection[T] : IList[T] {} public class SelectableTrack{ public bool IsChecked{get;set;} public bool CurrentTrack{get;set;} } For the view, I inherit from ViewPage[SelectableCollection[SelectableTrack]] For the controller, I have this as the ActionResult: [HttpPost] public ActionResult SelectTracks(SelectableCollection sc) { return new EmptyResult(); } But when I break inside the ActionResult, the collection is null. Any reason why it isn't coming through?

  • Saving a modified object from ASP.NET MVC View Using Entity-Franework 4

    I retrieve an object graph from DB using EF4. The context is closed as soon as the data retrieve and the data passes to the controller, and then to the view. in the view the data is modified, and then the controller gets it back. From the controller I run Repository.Update(MyEmp); and in my repository the code goes: using (var context = new mydb()) { if (myEmp.ID != 0) // Checking if it's modified or new { context.Emp.Attach(MyEmp); int result = context.SaveChanges(); return myEmp.ID; } } The problem - once attached, the object entityState goes to unchanged, and not modified, and of course - nothing is saved to the database. What am I doing wrong ?

The user has to wait 10 seconds to view the result of the action? If so, are the asynch controllers really helpful ?

    Hi, I'm using godaddy shared hosting, with IIS7, Integrated mode, and published up a bog standard MVC2 app to dev.lazygekko.com created with Visual Web Developer 2010. It all works, however when any of the links are clicked, they point to dev.lazygekko.com/dev/..., dev being the folder it is pointing at. Can anyone shed some light on what I may be doing wrong?     Is there an easy way to get a summary string of the errors that have been added to a controller's modelstate? I'm looking to return this in an Ajax method and want the validation errors etc to be returned to the client (i.e. the view does not exist for this method call). Or do I have to loop through the modelstate and look at each object and extract the error text manually?

  • II7 integrated mode MVC deploy 404 not found on "non-Index" actions

    Hello. Once deployed parts of my web-application stop working. Index-es on each controller do work, other then that yields 404. I understand that nothing particular should be done in integrated mode. I don't know how to proceed with troubleshooting. Some info: App is using default app pool set to integrated mode. WebApp is done in net framework 3.5. I use default routing model. Along web.config in root there is web.config in /View folder referencing HttpNotFoundHandler. OS is Windows Server 2008. Any help is appreciated. Thx.

    In my web.config file i have the following code: <system.web> <assemblies> <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="/Account/Login" slidingExpiration="true" timeout="1" /> </authentication> <sessionState timeout="1"></sessionState> </assemblies> </system.web> And I have main page Project and in that there will sub pages. I have given the [Authorize] attribute for each view index method. After the session complete when we select any view then the page inside the project main page will be redirecting. But I want the whole page to be redirected. Any Help is appreciated.

  • Render dropdown as text for particular action in ASP.NET MVC

    I have a partial view that I use for editing and creating my models. When a user is editing the model, I would like a particular drop-down to be rendered as text as I don't want them to change it. A read-only drop-down would suffice, but I'd prefer text. I'm thinking I can accomplish this via an extension method, but I'm not quite sure how to get started. Any help would be appreciated!

    I have implemented ajax on paging but my problem is when i navigate on paging and go to page 1 then on page 2 after that if i press backspace it went to the last page from where it comes instead of going to page 1. I want to know how should i implement paging like stackoverflow have. Further i have noticed that my url doesnt change on paging it remains like Home/Index when im on 1st page or 2nd page or any other page?

  • Sequence Number in testing Spring application with JUnit (Hibernating, Spring MVC)

    I am testing DAO in Spring Application. @RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class) @ContextConfiguration(locations = "classpath:/applicationContext.xml") @TransactionConfiguration(transactionManager = "transactionManager", defaultRollback = true) @Transactional public class CommentDAOImplTest { @Autowired //testing mehods here} The tests are running good. Iam able to add an comment and I also have a defaultRollback property set. So, the added comment will be deleted automatically. happy!..Now the problem is with the sequence number for mcomment. Can I, in any way rollback the seq number? any suggestins on that. I dont want to mess up the sequrnce number. Business requires comment Id to be showed. (I still dont know why). I know in memory db is an option....but I am guessing defaultRollback purpose is to eliminate in memory db testing and mocking. (Just my opinion.)

I used to validate everything in controllers, and then did some more reading and they recommended against it. Therefore, should I send the $_POST details to a helper type object and let it do all the work (validation/sending)?

    I'm getting into CodeIgniter and trying to figure out the good architecture for my models. What kind of models would you create for the following simple example: list page of blog entries: shows part of the entry data, number of comments blog entry page: shows all the entry data, comment list (with part of the comment data) comment page: shows all the comment data I'm trying to get this right so that it's simple and effective. I don't want to load too much information (from the db) on the pages where I don't need them. E.g. should the same entry model handle both multiple entries as well as a single entry? And how should the comments be loaded? I only need the number of comments on the multiple entries (list) page but some of the comment data on the single entry page. How would you handle this?

    Hi, I need to be able to provide a page for the end user where thay can search in the following : Search work Category Price AdType Location and so on. Its important that the user can copy the url and then use it later(and get the same settings). Its also important to be able to save these settings on the user in the database. So far I have created a ModelView class that contains the parameters but I am not sure that this is the right way to go? Maby I should pass all inte the URL. If so, how do I accomplish this?     My view uses ModelX to render my HTML form and my controller action takes ModelY as input when saving the form. It seems the typesafe textbox API assumes I am using the same model in both places. Is it possible to use different models and beeing type safe without creating my own helpers ? <% = Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Text) %> I would like something like this.   • MVC 3 beta + Dependency Resolver + Unity = got problem

    Hi everyone. I'm tried to use Dependency Resolver with Unity, and got some problem when my Controller creating. Here example of controller: public class AccountController : Controller { private readonly ICourseService _courseService; public AccountController(ICourseService courseService) { _courseService = courseService; } } But, when Controller try to create - i got an exception "No parameterless constructor defined for this object." I even try to add default constructor for this controller, but courseService didn't create. Also try to add property with [Dependency] attribute - nothing happened.
