  • Converting C# class to JavaScript

    - by AgileMeansDoAsLittleAsPossible
    Take a look at this basic class: namespace AcmeWeb { public string FirstName { get; set; } public class Person { public Person(string firstName, string lastName) { if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(firstName)) { throw new ArgumentNullException(firstName); } this.FirstName = firstName; } } } What's the best translation of this into JavaScript? This is what I'm thinking: (function(namespace) { namespace.Person = function(firstName, lastName) { // Constructor (function() { if (!firstName) { throw "'firstName' argument cannot be null or empty"; } })(); // Private memberts var _ = { firstName: firstName }; // Public members this.firstName = function(value) { if (typeof(value) === "undefined") { return _.firstName; } else { _.firstName = value; return this; } }; }; })(AcmeWeb);

  • Making a select choice result in a popup in javascript

    - by Ryan Johsonson
    So this is using javascript and HTML. For example: <select name='test' > <option value='1'> <option value='2'> <option value='3'> </select> If someone chooses option value 2 (from the dropdown) I want a popup to appear. However if they choose option value 1 or option value 3 (from the dropdown) I want nothing to happen. How can I do this? Thanks

  • CouchDB: How to change view function via javascript?

    - by osti
    Hello Guys, I am playing around with CouchDB to test if it is "possible" [1] to store scientific data (simulated and experimental raw data + metadata). A big pro is the schema-less approach of CouchDB: we have to be very flexible with the metadata, as the set of parameters changes very often. Up to now I have some code to feed raw data, plots (both as attachments), and hierarchical metadata (as JSON) into CouchDB documents, and have written some prototype Javascript for filtering and showing. But the filtering is done on the client side (a.k.a. browser): The map function simply returns everything. How could I change the (or push a second) map function of a specific _design-document with simple browser-JS? I do not think that a temporary view would yield any performance gain... Thanks for your time and answers. [1]: of course it is possible, but is it also useful? feasible? reasonable?

  • JavaScript not changing display type or color in IE

    - by user445359
    I am trying to switch a series of blocks between "none" and "block" based on the OnMouseOver property and to change the title of the selected list to yellow at the same time. The JavaScript code I have for this is: function switchCat(cat) { var uls = document.getElementsByClassName('lower-ul'); var titles = document.getElementsByClassName('lower-cat-title'); for (var i=0;i<uls.length;i++) { uls[i].style.display = 'none'; titles[i].style.color = 'white'; } if (cat != -1) { var wanted = document.getElementById('lower-cat-'+cat); var wantedTitle = document.getElementById('lower-cat-title-'+cat); wanted.style.display = 'block'; wantedTitle.style.color = 'yellow'; } } It works with Chrome, Opera, and Firefox, however, it does not work with IE. When I test it in IE I get the error "Object doesn't support this property or method." Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

  • How to break closures in JavaScript

    - by Not a Name
    Is there any way to break a closure easily in JavaScript? The closest I have gotten is this: var src = 3; function foo () { return function () { return src; } } function bar (func) { var src = 9; return eval('('+func.toString()+')')(); // Line breaks closure } alert(bar(foo())); Which prints 9, instead of 3 as a closure would dictate. However, this approach seems kind of ugly to me, are there any better ways?

  • "this" in JavaScript

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
    I'm trying to understand the syntax of how to put together a JavaScript function as an object. Q: Is this the right way to do it? The reason why I ask is because I'm looking at it in Firebug and I was hoping to be able to drill down and see the value of myVar and myVariable, but instead Firebug only says that "this" is an object Object. var myObject = { init: function() { var myVar = 1; myObject.myVariable = 2; console.log('"this" when called as an object: ' + this); } } myObject.init(); Also, what's the funny little syntax to call it directly upon declaration? Something about (), but when I remove the last line and put () at the end of the declaration, I get a syntax error.

  • Find and list all functions/methods in a set of JavaScript files

    - by Dan Milstein
    Is there a way to read a set of JavaScript files, and output a description of where every function/method is defined? I realize that this is likely impossible in full generality, due to the extreme dynamic nature of the language. What I'm imagining is something which gets the (relatively) straightforward cases. Ideally, I'd want it figure out where, e.g. some method got attached to string or hash or some other fundamental class (and also just let you find all the classes/functions that get defined once in one place). Does such a tool exist?

  • Javascript Image object without instantiating

    - by user276027
    This question is about javascript performance. Consider 3 examples for illustration: function loadImgA() { new Image().src="http://example.com/image.gif" } function loadImgA1() { Image().src="http://example.com/image.gif" } function loadImgB() { var testImg = new Image(); testImg.src="http://example.com/image.gif" } Now the point is I don't really need to manipulate the the image object after it was created, hence loadImgA(). The question is, what happens if nothing is assigned to the return value of the new Image() constructor - in that case I can actually skip the 'new' keyword as in loadImgA1()? Does the object then live outside the function or somehow affects memory usage? Other implications, differences? I reckon not, as no real instance was actually created? To put this into perspective, I only need to get the http request for image through. No preloading or other advanced image manipulation. What would be the preferred method from the above?

  • Detecting when Javascript is performing poorly

    - by what-the-crap
    I'm working on a webapp in jquery that, on older machines or machines without much resources, may perform poorly. To get around this I'd like to make a degraded version that disables some of the features, particularly those that rely on large images. How can I tell if my app is running poorly on the user's computer in jquery or javascript in general? I just need a way to call a function that will degrade the app. (especially when the user may run low on system memory) The only way I can think of is for manual user intervention, but the option would add clutter for users that don't need it and users that do need it may not notice it. Thanks!

  • Javascript jQuery .click() callback references local variable from the calling method instead of cop

    - by Eric Freese
    The following jQuery Javascript code is included on an otherwise empty page. $(function() { for (var i = 0; i < 10; i++) { element = $('<div>' + i + '</div>'); element.click(function() { alert(i); }); $('body').append(element); } }); The desired behavior is that this code should generate 10 div elements numbered from 0 to 9. When you click on a div element, an alert popup will show the number of the div element you clicked on (i.e. if a user clicks on the div element labeled '4', the alert popup should show the number 4). The alert popup instead shows the number 10 regardless of which div element is clicked on. How can I modify this code to make it behave in the desired way?

  • PHP and Javascript cookies

    - by shummel7845
    Can I access a cookie written with jQuery's cookie plug-in with PHP? I know you can't set Javascript equal to PHP or vice versa, but IN ESSENCE is: $.cookie('var') = $_COOKIE['var']? Again, I know you can't set them equal to each other, but if I set it in jQuery and then go to another page, can PHP access it? I've read lots of posts about this, but I can't seem to find an answer to this part. Note, if I look in Firefox's preferences, I can see the cookies are there, so I know they're set.

  • start javascript code with $(function, etc

    - by YAmikep
    I am studying Backbone and the todo example apps from http://todomvc.com/ I have noticed there are 3 severals ways of starting the code in the files: $(function() { // code here }); $(function( $ ) { // code here }); (function() { // code here }()); I do not understand the differences and when I should use one over the other. I also saw some people using this to start their code: $(document).ready(function(){ // code here }); From what I have seen, this is the full way of writing it right? In a more general way, should I always include my javascript code into something like that in each files? Thanks for your advice.

  • Programmatic gradient stops with Javascript

    - by TomcatExodus
    Working with Javascript (jQuery), given 2 color values (2033ff and 3300a0 for example) how can I determine certain gradient stops between them? Reason being is, I intend on using an array of color values: 0 => '000000' 8400 => 'f0ff00' 44000 => '2033ff' 68400 => '3300a0' There being 86400 seconds in a day, 12:00AM maps to 0, and 11:59PM maps to 86399. As time passes, the background color of a specified element changes to the appropriate color in gradient list via window.setInterval(function(e){ ... }, 1000). For example 2:32:11PM = 52331, which from the example would be somewhere between 2033ff and 3300a0. I don't need to populate the array with the values (unless that would be easier) but instead use the index and value as references.

  • JQuery or Javascript solution for selecting default value in drop down

    - by user1446843
    I have a calender list in a webpart page, this webpart page has a version number in it's title e.g. "WebPart 1.62". What I need to do is when a New item is created in the calender list on a webpart page, the New Item form has a dropdown menu 'SystemID' which gets it's values from the title column of a 'Systems' list, which is pre-populated with all versions of webpart forms. This dropdown menu 'SystemID' should select the version of the webpart page it is in as the default value. I need a JQuery solution for this, or even Javascript. I am finding it difficult as I am new to both JQuery and Sharepoint. I am using SP2007. I'll appreciate any guidance in solving this. At the moment the Create New Item form of the Calender list has the 'SystemID' drop down list pre-populated with the versions from the Systems list. If anyhthing is unclear pls let me know and I'll explain in more detail.

  • Passing dynamic parameter to a JavaScript function using innerHTML

    - by user958263
    I am having issues passing a dynamic parameter to a JavaScript function using innerHTML. Included below is the current code that I am using: var name = "test"; frm.innerHtml = '<button name="close" id="close" title="Cancel" type="button" onclick="closeTab('+name+');">Return</button>'; When I debug the code of the CloseTab() function, the parameter specified by the name variable is null. I believe there is a problem with the declaration of the value while modifying the innerHTML property. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Accessing ajax POST response in javascript

    - by mike44
    I'm making ajax POST request from javascript function: function UpdateMetrics() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "MyHandler.ashx?Param1=value1", data: "{}", contentType: "text/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "text", success: function (msg) { var jsonUpdatedData = msg; ... } }); } From my handler, I'm sending json string with: context.Response.write(json); I think I'll get it in msg. I also want to send other string (count). So I'm trying to use header info along with json data. So I added this line: context.Response.Headers.Add("MaxCount",Convert.ToString(tempList.Count)); If this is right way to do it, how can I access it in my success function?

  • How to resubmit PHP form with javascript

    - by user866339
    I am wondering if it is possible to to resubmit a form with a button click that calls up a javascript command. So this is basically what I'm trying to do - page 1: form; action = page2.php page 2: generate a randomized list according to parameters set by page 1 I would like to place a button on page 2 so that on click, it would be as if the user has hit F5, and a new list would be generated with the same parameters. I found a lot of help on Google with people trying NOT to get this to happen, but I'm not sure how to actually get it to happen..... Thank you!

  • ASP.NET Performance tip- Combine multiple script file into one request with script manager

    - by Jalpesh P. Vadgama
    We all need java script for our web application and we storing our JavaScript code in .js files. Now If we have more then .js file then our browser will create a new request for each .js file. Which is a little overhead in terms of performance. If you have very big enterprise application you will have so much over head for this. Asp.net Script Manager provides a feature to combine multiple JavaScript into one request but you must remember that this feature will be available only with .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 or higher versions.  Let’s take a simple example. I am having two javascript files Jscrip1.js and Jscript2.js both are having separate functions. //Jscript1.js function Task1() { alert('task1'); } Here is another one for another file. ////Jscript1.js function Task2() { alert('task2'); } Now I am adding script reference with script manager and using this function in my code like this. <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="myScriptManager" runat="server" > <Scripts> <asp:ScriptReference Path="~/JScript1.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Path="~/JScript2.js" /> </Scripts> </asp:ScriptManager> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> Task1(); Task2(); </script> </form> Now Let’s test in Firefox with Lori plug-in which will show you how many request are made for this. Here is output of that. You can see 5 Requests are there. Now let’s do same thing in with ASP.NET Script Manager combined script feature. Like following <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="myScriptManager" runat="server" > <CompositeScript> <Scripts> <asp:ScriptReference Path="~/JScript1.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Path="~/JScript2.js" /> </Scripts> </CompositeScript> </asp:ScriptManager> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> Task1(); Task2(); </script> </form> Now let’s run it and let’s see how many request are there like following. As you can see now we have only 4 request compare to 5 request earlier. So script manager combined multiple script into one request. So if you have lots of javascript files you can save your loading time with this with combining multiple script files into one request. Hope you liked it. Stay tuned for more!!!.. Happy programming.. • Scripts Casing Flash Intro Animation To Stop [migrated]

    - by ubique
    When my Flash website loads, it freezes halfway through the initial animation for 2-3 seconds and then continues. This obviously doesn't look great and I can't figure out what is causing it. Am thinking it is one of the scripts in index.html causing the issue and have tried all sorts of ways to correct it - what have I done wrong? <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <title>company name</title> . . . <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/flashobject.js"></script> <!--[if lt IE 7]> <link href="ie6.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <![endif]--> </head> <body> <header> <hgroup> <h1>company</h1> <h2>company</h2> </hgroup> </header> <div id="container"> <div id="head"> <div class="aligncenter"><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH"> <img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_adobe_flash_player.png" alt="" /></a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="g-plus" data-href="https://plus.google.com/100925740920754223119?rel=publisher" data-width="170" data-height="69" data-theme="light"> </body> <!-- Flash --> <script type="text/javascript"> var fo = new FlashObject("main_v10.swf", "head", "100%", "100%", "8", ""); fo.addParam("quality", "high"); fo.addParam("allowFullScreen", "true"); fo.write("head"); </script> <!-- Hello Bar --> <script type="text/javascript" src="//www.hellobar.com/hellobar.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> new HelloBar(39040,52484); </script> <!-- GPlus --> <script type="text/javascript"> window.___gcfg = {lang: 'en'}; (function() {var po = document.createElement("script"); po.type = "text/javascript"; po.async = true;po.src = "https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"; var s = document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s); })();</script> <!-- Google --> <script type="text/javascript"> var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-xxxxxxxx-1']); _gaq.push(['_setSiteSpeedSampleRate', 10]); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function init() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?   • Convert Javascript Regular Expression to PHP (PCRE) Expression

    - by Matt
    Hi all, I am up to my neck in regular expressions, and I have this regular expression that works in javascript (and flash) that I just can't get working in PHP Here it is: var number = '(?:-?\\b(?:0|[1-9][0-9]*)(?:\\.[0-9]+)?(?:[eE][+-]?[0-9]+)?\\b)'; var oneChar = '(?:[^\\0-\\x08\\x0a-\\x1f\"\\\\]' + '|\\\\(?:[\"/\\\\bfnrt]|u[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}))'; var str = '(?:\"' + oneChar + '*\")'; var varName = '\\$(?:' + oneChar + '[^ ,]*)'; var func = '(?:{[ ]*' + oneChar + '[^ ]*)'; // Will match a value in a well-formed JSON file. // If the input is not well-formed, may match strangely, but not in an unsafe // way. // Since this only matches value tokens, it does not match whitespace, colons, // or commas. var jsonToken = new RegExp( '(?:false|true|null' +'|[\\}]' + '|' + varName + '|' + func + '|' + number + '|' + str + ')', 'g'); If you want it fully assembled here it is: /(?:false|true|null|[\}]|\$(?:(?:[^\0-\x08\x0a-\x1f"\\]|\\(?:["/\\bfnrt]|u[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}))[^ ,]*)|(?:{[ ]*(?:[^\0-\x08\x0a-\x1f"\\]|\\(?:["/\\bfnrt]|u[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}))[^ ]*)|(?:-?\b(?:0|[1-9][0-9]*)(?:\.[0-9]+)?(?:[eE][+-]?[0-9]+)?\b)|(?:"(?:[^\0-\x08\x0a-\x1f"\\]|\\(?:["/\\bfnrt]|u[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}))*"))/g Interestingly enough, its very similar to JSON. I need this regular expression to work in PHP... Here's what I have in PHP: $number = '(?:-?\\b(?:0|[1-9][0-9]*)(?:\\.[0-9]+)?(?:[eE][+-]?[0-9]+)?\\b)'; $oneChar = '(?:[^\\0-\\x08\\x0a-\\x1f\"\\\\]|\\\\(?:[\"/\\\\bfnrt]|u[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}))'; $string = '(?:\"'.$oneChar.'*\")'; $varName = '\\$(?:'.$oneChar.'[^ ,]*)'; $func = '(?:{[ ]*'.$oneChar.'[^ ]*)'; $jsonToken = '(?:false|true|null' .'|[\\}]' .'|'.$varName .'|'.$func .'|'.$number .'|'.$string .')'; echo $jsonToken; preg_match_all($jsonToken, $content, $out); return $out; Here's what happens if I try using preg_match_all(): Warning: preg_match_all() [function.preg-match-all]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 0 in /Users/Matt/Sites/Templating/json/Jeeves.php on line 88 Any help would be much appreciated!
